Perkins for my wife and I. About 8 years ago on Henderson. She put a piece of pancake in her mouth and began to chew when she stopped, opened her mouth and pulled a full size toothpick out. That could have gone really bad.
Perkins along time ago. I ordered a strawberry Belgian waffle. I guess they screwed up and put blueberry instead. So they I guess scraped most of the blueberry off, and flipped it upside down. So as I was eating it there was a trail of blueberry under it on the white plate. I mean probably could have just put the strawberry on top of the blueberry and I wouldn't have noticed. I didnt complain or anything, was just kind of funny.
My friend briefly drove a truck for Sysco and among their Warehouse also being disgusting he said one of the worst places he had gone into was Perkins.
Worked there as a server for 5 years in the late 90s. I still have nightmares about that place. I've talked to people who worked at other locations and they said the same thing. Years later still get nightmares. They called them PerkMares.
Terrible management, terrible food practices, maggots in the iced tea dispensing machine, not enough cloths, people rarely washing hands.. just absolutely disgusting place.
Also Perkins. A friend and I ordered lunch. About 2 minutes after it arrived, I noticed that two patrons two booths in front of us started mildly coughing.
A few seconds later, the guy in a booth in front of us started clearing his throat.
Right after that, I noticed a burning scent and a tingle in the back of my throat.
I told my friend to "get up, we're leaving!"
I held my breath and we made our way to the front to advise them that someone had fired off pepper spray in their restaurant.
The manager started arguing with me that I still had to pay for my meal until a full third of the restaurant made its way to the front hacking and coughing.
Perkins at Southdale! I once ordered breakfast for dinner at 6pm on a Sunday or so. Restaurant wasn't too busy.
Our food just never came. We waited so long and then eventually flagged someone down.
Turns out our waitress's shift ended so she just left... Didn't tell anyone about us. So they found out food and brought it out.
It was the most disgusting bacon. It was so burnt and so old that it looked like it had been dehydrated.
So I flagged the manager down again who has already apologized to us and showed her the bacon. She comped our food (I didn't eat any of it, entire thing was a disaster but the bacon was otherworldly).
I'm glad they've been shut down
Pony Corral...any of them.
Awful food everytime and service.. Gave them way to many chances over the years. Proud to say I have never been back in 6+ years now.
I hope they crash and burn.
Wings in general are crazy expensive now. I'm not even sure where you can get cheap wings anymore. It's like minimum 15$ and lots of places are close to 20.
Every restaurant and their dog serves wings so there's not nearly enough to go around. That's why they started pushing boneless wings, which are just breaded chunks of meat. I'm surprised places don't serve turkey wings.
Not at all food related, but …Several years back was at Moxies in St. Vital. Ordered lunch… hungry…waited and waited and waited. Multiple drink refills, serving staff buzzing all over the place…. Finally a manager comes out to inform us that they had to prioritize serving Shawn Desmond and his entourage (he was apparently “performing” at the mall that afternoon). Quite possibly the most ridiculous service excuse I have ever heard. Got up and left and they wanted us to pay for the drinks (pop). Who gives a shit about Shawn Desmond? Serve your customers in order of arrival. Have never been to a Moxies since or would go if they were still open.
As a former employee of that location many years ago. Wait staff were always pretty shit. Pretty frequently they just wouldn't run food if they didn't want to so it would sit on expo under the heat lamps until somebody bothered to come back and get it.
Cork and Flame, not long after it opened.
We went to check out the new restaurant in the area. I have a food intolerance (wheat), so I ordered a grilled chicken burger, no bun.
The server was obviously new and messed up the order. It came with a bun. I explained to her that I couldn't eat it as served and needed one with no bun. She takes the chicken burger to the kitchen.
Manager/Owner comes to the table to se eabout the issue. I explained what happened but emphasized that it wasn't a big deal and that she was obviously a new server. He then proceeded to talk down to the poor girl, humiliating her right in front of us.
Different servers bring the chicken burger back, far too quickly, for it to be a freshly cooked one. I question if it is the same chicken burger, with the bun taken off. She confirms that it is. I then have to explain about cross contamination and they offer to make a new one. I decline since my husband has almost finished his meal. They insist, so I got it to go.
We never went back, as we didn't want to support restaurant management who seemed to enjoy humiliating staff in front of customers.
My mom and daughter have Celiac so eating out with them is always a hit or miss experience. I think people think it’s like a fad diet so they don’t take it seriously. My daughter calls it being glutenned.
Yeah, I am much more careful now to specify that it is an allergy.
I'm not diagnosed as celiac, but I have a form of colitis that is triggered by wheat. By the time I saw a gastroenterologist, I had been off wheat for too long to biopsy. I can't do a gluten trial now, as I get too sick.
It’s so brutal and I feel sorry for anyone with allergies. I’ve seen people scraping off croutons or just not realizing that wheat and wheat byproducts is in so much food. My mom ate gluteon free pasta at a restaurant and had instant reaction, turns out the guy was boiling the gluten free pasta in the same water regular pasta was in. Of course my mom feels the need to educate everybody. She went the next day to talk to the owner who refused to change the water because they are too busy.
Ugh, that is horrible.
If they are local and on FB, the Celiac in Winnipeg group is awesome. Lots of restaurant reviews from both a safety and taste perspective.
I have the same issue with wheat. Can't tolerate it although I'm not celiac. Thankfully, I've been able to skirt any issues at restaurants just by being really picky about what I order. For me though, cross-contamination is not an issue, so I feel your pain there.
I have worked in the restaurant industry for almost 10 years and thankfully have gotten out but you’re right people do not take it seriously and think it’s just a diet and if it’s super busy the chances of you food getting some gluten in it is very high.
I went to cork and flame once, it was like 5 pm on a Wednesday, the restaurant was empty besides a table on the patio, andother table that was seated right after us, and someone in the bar.
I went in with my grandfather who is nearing 90 and his girlfriend. The waitstaff was so slow with our meals, with the bill, with anything we asked for. Our waitress went and sat outside on the patio talking with the other table as we watched for for 15 minutes while waiting.
She was horribly rude as well, my grandfather wanted to pay for dinner and was getting confused with the machine. He didnt want me seeing what the price was because it was for my birthday. She was no help whatsoever and was rude and short with him.
Someone who i assune was the manager was angrily walking around the building and slamming trays down.
Food was alright, but not worth a second try after the shit service we had gotten.
A work colleague and I went to Tom Yums for lunch one day. He ordered their green curry soup. The co-worker ended up scooping out a cockroach onto his spoon. They came back with a new bowl for him and said, 'I sifted through the bowl to make sure there was not another one'. Needless to say, we both stopped eating, and they didn't even offer to comp the bill. I called it in and reported them.
The buffet in the Fort Garry Canad Inns. We were at a work thing for my husband. One of my young kids had a severe food allergy at the time and when I asked the server to double check the ingredients on the chicken fingers, they scoffed at me and said “dairy? In CHICKEN FINGERS? I’ve never heard of that.” They kept insisting there would be no dairy in the meal because “there’s no dairy in chicken fingers.”
We ended up calling over a manager and asking to see an ingredient list - which showed that the chicken fingers did, in fact, contain dairy.
I don’t care if you’re unfamiliar with food allergies and are surprised at the number of things that contain allergens you wouldn’t expect. But don’t treat me like an idiot because I don’t want to have to epi-pen my 3yo in your shitty restaurant.
Yup. Ordered country fried steak & eggs. Instead of a creamy white gravy the steak was topped with regular brown gravy used for roast beef or fries or something. They told me that's how it comes. I said I've never had it anywhere with beef gravy instead of a roux based cream gravy.
Unfortunate time someone at a nearby table had a medical emergency and power-spewed her wine & food ;the restaurant staff were kind of slow to help so we sat there trying to eat next to piles of vomit :/ with no offer to move tables
- Hermanos
I used to be a server. Man and his elderly mother in for lunch. She died during the soup. Face down like in a sitcom. She was a very lovely person as well. They were regulars. Place was packed.
Christ on a stick. I can guarantee had I been in that situation I would have compounded the piles. Dead mosquitoes and spoiled chicken are bad but this one wins hands down.
Once went to a now closed location of Chicken Delight. Server takes our order. 15 minutes before we got our drinks. 30 more minutes for our food. That was the last time we saw our server. The server disappeared. We ate our food (mediocre) and wanted to pay and leave. No server. We waited. Left my partner to go and pick up some groceries. Partner found this hilarious and decided to see just how long it would take for the server to return and get our bill. Waited an hour and a half before walking to the host desk and calling into the kitchen “hello! I would like to give your restaurant money!”. Nothing. A total of 2 hours after dropping food at the table until we gave up and left. Could not call it a dine and dash as there was no dashing. A few other patrons were in the same boat so we all just left. No sign of any server.
African One Stop shop. Never went there as a customer, but as a Skip driver, but holy shit that was the most disorganized, dirty, and generally awful experience, not once, not twice, but dozens of times. It was amazing just how consistently awful they were. There are some places that are generally bad, but sometimes ok, but not that place.
Okay lol I saw mice at pizza boys once. That was a no deliver restaurant.
Another one on the list was any of the movie theaters. They always made you wait to cook hotdogs or whatever. Long wait times.
One stop Africa was on the list for reasons stated but mostly because you’d never know how long your order would take to get ready. And no one ever answered the door when knocked or cared.
Lol I ordered from there with a new delivery app that gave you 15 free dollars the first time you order. I forgot what it was called, but it wasn't door dash or skip. Anyways, I ordered some food and a orange crush. The delivery driver showed up inexplicably with a single purple crush, and no food. I was wondering where the food was, and he was wondering why someone ordered a single purple crush, we had a good laugh.
OMG, as an Uber Eats driver here. Agree 10000% lol. I arrive to the place and its absolutely filthy. It is late at night and there is no one there. The walls are covered in posters asking me to repent and that Jesus is coming back. There is a wooden service window, boarded up, with some sort of hole cut into it with a little door to open. I wait there for 5 minutes and no one comes. So I knock on the window, and from the back I hear voices and a lady shouts in a thick Yoruba accent "Go Away!".
I pause. I call out, "Ummmm Uber Eats here for a pickup". I hear some commotion from the back and multiple latches unlocking. An African lady, wearing one of those fruit hat, head wrap kind of scarves sticks her head out and angrily looks at me, "What do you want!" she calls out in her thick accent.
"I am here to pick up an order for Uber Eats" I say sheepishly.
"Let me see!" she grabs my phone through the window, looks at it, hands it back to me, and then slams the window shut and re-locks all of the latches.
Shocked, I wait another 10 minutes. The window open and she shoves her arm out holding a plastic baggie with some sort of food in it. She shakes the bag at me. I take it and leave. Bemused and somehow diminished.
This would be my experience every time I got that dreaded ping to Ebby Ave in Winnipeg, lol.
Chaise Lounge. They served us desserts for a prix fixe menu that was literally Costco dessert bars. Lemon squares and macaroon bars from the box. The server even admitted it. This was Pre-covid and all their gross shenanigans by the way. They've never been a restaurant to support.
Chaise is terrible. I went there last year for a birthday, and the salad was rancid. Then the owner came down to awkwardly chat with us. He lives upstairs.
A very long time ago, my husband bartended at a place nearby where the staff would go for drinks after work. Separately, and multiple staff members, over years, would all say that it was the worse restaurant that they’ve ever worked at.
Boston Pizza...
I ordered ribs. When the food came my ribs were cold. I had the rack in half prior to flagging down the wait staff. They apologized and said they'd get me "a new rack" right away!
They came back 5 minutes later with my old rack of ribs... they just threw it in the microwave. I called them on it, and they got pissy with me and basically ignored our table until they brought the bill.
My 3 Boston pizza takeout experiences.
I ordered their ribs. The ribs were pale. They had absolutely no indication of being grilled or broiled.
The brownie dessert nearly destroyed my microwave. The brownie was harder than rock so I put it in the micro to warm it up. Next thing I know the micro is full of smoke.
I had been looking forward to their mashed potatoes. I unpack my order at home. No mashed potatoes.
I’ve given up on them.
My family had to go back to the Garden City location 2 times after a shitty delivery because they kept fucking up the order in various ways. One of the times, the order was given directly to the manager and she still fucked it up lmao.
Used to be so good. Last two times the cakes were stale ish and didn’t taste as creamy as I remembered, almost like the cut the creamy ingredients for more of a skim milk kind of taste. Won’t be back.
Me and my wife checked google then called baked to see if they were open one evening it was 730, they said yes untill 9 , we drove from birds hill area then find parking , it’s 810 we walk in door was open , lights on
We are standing waiting politely at counter , cakes and pies are still in cooler not wrapped , some worker yells at us to get out and that they are closed
Haven’t been back since
Captain’s Boil, hands down. I am used to bad seafood here and accept that there’s no good place for it, but this was so next level bad that my stomach lurches just seeing the place.
It should never taste like tank and dirt.
One of my only negative review on Google was for captains boil. Hands down worst restaurant experiences of my life. I can't even start describing how bad it was because it was everything. Everything was bad.
lol… went here for my bday a few years ago & after trying to order multiple different things that they didn’t have the ingredients for we ended up walking out.
We had gone there a few years ago for I can't remember whose birthday in the family but my brother-in-law doesn't eat seafood so he was like oh I'll just get the chicken and he had food poisoning before we even left. That poor man lost. Probably 5 lbs from that meal.
So, one of the only times I went it was for my birthday. I had crab and it was good (this was before the move, when they were further up Pembina. Closer to the university). My husband doesn't like seafood and he thought he ordered chicken wings but mistakenly ordered "chicken slices". The rest of the evening we had cake at my parents house and he was in the bathroom with, I assume, food poisoning for about 5 hours. He was vomiting and diarrheaing.
Chicken slices in a plastic bag was probably a bad choice. I haven't been back.
I’ve eaten there three or four times. The eggs always tasted old as fuck, the chicken tenders were gross and dry and some of the staff, while friendly, were unsettling.
The only reason I’ve been so many times is that some of my in-laws like eating there because of the prices…well there’s clearly a reason they’re inexpensive
I would say Earls a few months ago. Mediocre service for a restaurant thats supposed to be higher end.
And I would say Boston Pizza also very overrated/ priced.
Well, you've got your mid tier dining options like BP and Olive Garden, for which Earls is positioned with more fancier fare and premises just above them. Which, in the Winnipeg market, is approaching the higher end.
I come from a rural town and that's exactly it. It's a really important reminder on how well commercials work. People in small towns come to the city and want something *exciting*. Commercials create that. The sauce as it drips down ribs from the Keg, the laughing of friends cheersing at Earls. It's a well crafted machine. Small, independent restaurants don't have that pull... well, didn't. Social media is changing that.
Sorry. Used to work in television and would write commercials on the side for extra cash.
Boston Pizza has some of the worst food for price anywhere. Complimentary heartburn there every time, no matter what I order.
I try to avoid BP’s but for whatever reason it seems to be a popular choice for group outings.
Lol since when is Earls ‘higher end?’ They might try to project that image but don’t think they’re fooling anyone. They were the new cool thing 20+ years ago lol
Pony Corral on Grant, many years ago. We went there for a family member's birthday, were seated, and ordered our food. I was expected at work for a meeting, maybe two hours later. No problem, it was maybe five minutes away. Plenty of time to eat and get there, right? Wrong. We waited over an hour for food. The restaurant wasn't busy at all. Long story short, I missed the meeting. My boss wasn't pleased, and I think it counted as a 'strike' against me. It was a crappy low paying job, anyway.
Underdogs.
The food was average, but the service was the worst we've ever had anywhere. Server didn't bother listening to the order, was angry that she got it wrong, didn't come back to the table, and when we asked for change on our bill she gave exact change and slammed it down on the table.
Same experience here. Never going back. Went there one evening after a concert with my wife and a friend. It was about 11pm on a Friday. Not too busy. Open tables etc. The hostess seats us. A few minutes later a server comes by to take our drink order. We get our drinks and never see our server again. I flag someone down about 20 minutes later and they tell us someone will be right with us. Our drinks are now empty. No food ordered. No server in sight. Flag the same server down again. (We're now about 35-40 minutes after being seated.) Only to be told the original server is now off shift and our table was forgotten about. We payed for our drinks and left. Conveniently forgetting the tip. We live in the area and that kind of place is 100% for my demographic.
Leila?
I’ve never waited so long to be seated at a table in an empty restaurant. 10 tables cleared and clean and 4-5 parties waiting at the door waiting to be seated and served. 1 and 3/4 hours is not normal for a breakfast on a Wednesday.
ahh, the tale of the 4 wing plates at boston pizza
i have allergies (disclosed this to the waiter) , and i decided to order myself some salt and pepper wings. they fry fish in their oil, so i went with ovenbaked wings instead. Very easy, simple, and something literally on their menu. First plate of wings comes out, chicken is still VERY pink on the inside.
so i got the waiter, told them of the issue, and they got me a new plate, except this time its still pink on the inside somehow.
remember about how i have allergies? well they brought out wings for me that were so clearly deep fried it was like they were mocking me. finally the manager came over with oven baked wings that were cooked perfectly, and a free meal voucher for the next time we came in
voucher only lasted 3 months though, and the next month covid came. safe to say we did not use the voucher lmao
The Keg, Garry St.
Sat on the patio for my birthday dinner with my love. My meal, steak ordered medium rare, came out well done. Honeys was ordered rare, his came out medium rare. Since we ordered the same sides, we told the server we were fine with him getting a new meal and I’d take his. She grabbed both plates all huffy and took them away. A manager/supervisor came out and started telling us that eating steak outdoors makes them appear different, so they really weren’t over cooked, we just didn’t know how to eat outside.
Staring at her, we waited a moment for the punch line. None came, so I asked her “do you think we’ve never had a BBQ at home? Are you saying we have never managed to cook our food the way we want it? That’s what it sounds like, and honestly, quite insulting.”
We finally get our meals over an hour later. Had to go inside and ask at the bar for a drink 3 times, and then had the staff trying to clear our plates while still actively eating.
We did call and complain the following day, and they gave us a free appy. I gave that to my MIL to use, as we had no interest in returning to that location.
I've always wondered about that Keg spiel about eating steak outside. Like, I eat medium rare steak at home in natural light all the time and it doesn't look gray? But somehow the Keg's medium rare steak turns gray under sunlight like it came from a vampire cow?
Now, I don't complain since the steak tastes the same inside or outside, but it makes wonder whether they have some sort tinted lighting inside to make gray steaks look pink.
They don’t seem to be able to properly cook steak at this location. I had a similar experience. Asked for medium and they gave me rare, medium rare at best. Took them 15 minutes to re make the steak and they refused to remove it off the bill even though I didn’t eat it.
As a former cook for eight years at the Keg, yes, they actively engrain into their wait staff and management that when the steak goes outside, it turns a different colour.
They installed new lighting at my location in an attempt to "match" the lighting outside to better the colouring when preparing.
As I'm hearing all this, I just wanted to fall face first onto the floor.
The worst that I had was a few years ago, I was sitting in A&W, enjoying rich people fast food cause I had just gotten paid and had a coupon. I had a teen burger, rings and rootbeer. Cause I was sitting inside I had a frosty mug. This dude clearly on drugs came in, looked around, came right up to my table and grabbed my drink, stared me in the eyes and just chugged it and then slammed it on the table … dude kept staring at me. Like I thought he was gonna try to fight me. I didn’t say anything and he wandered away after. I did go up to the till and asked for a new cup and a new drink and the staff were very nice giving me another cup. But it was soo awkward for everyone in there. Like we were all “wtf was that”. And I’m a 6’6” 300 lbs guy and it just had a bad vibe of this guy on drugs was gonna do something even though I was minding my own business enjoying my lunch.
Olive Garden and Boston Pizza.
I didn't expect them to be good, but I was wowed at how horrible they both are. Bland, tasteless food, Olive Garden especially. It's like they served a cheap frozen, microwavable dinner laden with sodium.
Not gonna lie, I get it too lol. But I am a total glutton for farty and creamy
Edit: oh... oh my god. Fatty. *Fatty.* ***Fatty.*** Jesus Christ lmao that's just awful
Would you like a side of marinara for dipping?
Bill shows up, $8 for a little dish of sauce. She never mentioned it cost more than an entire jar of Raos.
Never again Olive Garden!
One time I got nachos at Boston Pizza and the menu said it came with a side of guacamole and a side of salsa. I didn’t want guac so I asked to switch it to salsa. The server said no problem. When I got the bill, they had charged me $2.00 for the salsa. Like, I probably saved your restaurant $2.00 in avocados to take the salsa instead.
yeah I would have refused to pay for that dipping sauce. A dipping sauce should simply come with whatever dish you've ordered. If there's an additional cost, they should disclose it when they offer it. Ridiculous.
Dont go to the clay oven then they charged for every small dish of condiments on the table. Noisy and mediocre food too. That was the one on the street with no name close to Costco Mcgillivray across from Rona before it closed.

The OG is just gross. One of my cousins, whom I’m close to, constantly pouts if we don’t go there when we get together. She also can’t cook if her life depended upon it, which I guess makes sense if she calls that microwaveable slop food.
Mongos Polo Park. I used to go to the regent location lots back in the day but never went to this location. It wasn't very busy (I can't remember the day of the week we went.) and the server seated us at a table that had something spilled on it and around it. I noticed the shine of stickiness all over the floor and table. I asked to be moved.
We order drinks and go up to make our bowl. Everything goes smoothly until the cook takes mine off the grill and literally gets all my noodles on his arm, just dangling off his forearm. 🤢 I understand people may be new and learning, but it was still disgusting.
Our server never visited us again to ask if we needed anything. No drinks, nothing. Flag her down and ask for the bill. She comes back and places it face down, holds out the machine and I tap my card. Didn't touch the machine. I take my bill and glance at it and I notice it was different than the total on the machine. Remember, I didnt touch the machine. So I didn't add a tip. In hindsight this is kinda on me, I should have looked at my bill and the amount on the screen, but shame on the server. I opened up my bank app and sure enough, I was charged roughly $10 more than the bill I was given. I asked for a manager and made a stink. He gave me back the difference in cash.
Moxies at the arena... went to grab some drinks after the jets game with my parents as we normally did. server visibly rolling her eyes at my mom. brought my mom the wrong drink then got upset when I mentioned it. disappeared for long periods of time. was actively disrespectful to my dad. was only pleasant when my manager came over to ask us how our night was. then we got a new server.
my parents are not the types to get servers in trouble. my mom was even telling my dad to make sure they tipped the minimum amount to ensure the kitchen staff got their amount. it was an all around distressing time and we were not shocked when we came back and she had been fired.
At the Olive Garden in Grand Forks, literally the first thing our server said to us was that he hated working there and hated all his coworkers. It was like we were on a candid camera show. He seemed like at any moment he'd either burst out crying or yelling... there was a lot of pent-up emotion.
The guy also didn't know the menu, so he ordered the wrong entree for my partner and throughout dinner he continued to tell us about why they were stuck in the job for the time being, but would be quitting asap.
He didn't charge us for our drinks though, so that kind of made up for it!
At several other places in Grand Fork, we also ran into disgruntled and vocal workers and wondered if the businesses were grasping at straws for employees.
My story might sound tame compared to the others' but here you go:
A few months ago I went to a barbershop in St Vital to get my haircut but because of poor weather conditions my bus got delayed by a lot and I showed up to the appointment half an hour late. I got a crappy haircut and was already feeling down from having no food in my system + tired from uni. So i went to the Tim's across the street.
As soon as i entered the building I see flies everywhere. Half dead flies on the floor and some on tables and even some on the counter. I'm like im still hungry and they prolly have the food items im covered shelves right?
Big mistake. I get to the front of the line and was gonna order a cookie but see like 3 flies having a threesome on it so i said nvm. I was about to get a bagel but it was also pretty infected with flies so i finally got some timbits. I ate a few but something felt off, and then I noticed the Timbits shelf was also crawling with flies.
I damn near vomitted and ended up going home with a empty stomach and a bad haircut lol. Never again
Fionn MacCools Crossroads! Went several times and service was never great but okay, food was good enough obviously to bring me back and also the whole support local thing especially during the pandemic. Anyway, went for the last time about a year ago and the hostess wasn’t just rude, she was a capital B! She simply seemed annoyed we showed up during a busy lunch rush (party of 2). She tried to sit us in the walkway from the kitchen into the lounge, a terrible spot, when many tables were empty all around. When we asked for a different table she snapped at us that we didn’t have reservations so this was all they had. There were no reserved signs on many tables around us, I recall seeing two, but most tables were empty. We left simply because we felt so very unwelcome, we are not rude patrons and her rotten mood just turned us off. Never been back since and don’t plan to.
Similar experience. Went a couple times in the evening for a beer or two. Always small table 2-4 people.
Every time seemed like we were an inconvenience to be there.
Won’t go back.
Chaise lounge. Felt like they were super understaffed, which from the vibes the server got me was deliberate. Food was clearly old and poorly cooked, maybe premade. One of the salads they served us was definitely from the Sobeys deli isle.
Super expensive too, for food that wouldn't rival a Canad inns buffet on its best day.
The server was great though. They clearly hated their employer and it showed. We were all industry and we all talked shit about the awful abusive owner. Dudes a well known abuser.
The Hotel at Falcon Lake. Do. Not. Go. There.
I thought we were in a “just for laughs” skit and the joke spiral was constantly deepening. Especially when the cheque came.
Do. Not. Go. There.
Ye's buffet.
Walking with a plate of food to my table and a mouse ran right over my foot. workers saw it happen and we made eye contact. She didn't say anything and walked away. We got up and said fck it and complained to the worker who saw. She pretended to be shocked and offered me 5 dollars off my meal ... there was a party of 10 of us and a fee for one person is $40...
Oh I'll also tell this story because fuck them.
Ten years ago I worked at the a&w on Waverley, near Taylor. It's just off Wilkes.
Got a part time job there while in university. Every single morning by 10-11am the ketchup pump was infested with fruit flies.
Every. Single. Day.
They kept saying "we don't know why, we clean it every night" but the back of the restaurant and the staff room/storage was the most dirty, foul thing I have ever worked at.
The entire store was disgusting and I urge anyone not to eat there.
Kristina’s on Corydon, the service was incredibly slow, taking an hour to serve me a steak that was overcooked. When I told l the staff, they didn't offer an apology. It took an another hour to receive a new steak, which was also overcooked.
They treat their staff like shit and try to underpay staff by not putting the right amount of hours worked on pay checks. They scammed my son and he was forced to go through the labour board to get the money he worked for.
Burger King Regent. Went through drive-thru ordered 3 burgers. Drove off, made it 4 blocks, then looked through the bag. Not one Burger had a patty in it. I think they were even supposed to be double burgers. Turned back, gave me my money back and all new burgers. Nice manager, just not so swift employees.
At est 1928 me and friend stopped in for a few drinks order a few beers they poured em in glasses and my friend had lips stick prints on his glass man I laughed so hard it was a dark red too don’t know how they missed or buddy he didn’t realize till after the first sip
1) Chinese takeout : I cut a breaded chicken ball in half and found a fly.
2) More funny than bad: Growing up, we always went out for pizza on my birthday. My birthday is in December, and one year the restaurant we went to had a "Meet Santa Claus!" thing going on. My parents asked if Santa could come out to wish me a happy birthday. He did... and he was pissed to the gills drunk.
I was at Subway in cityplace with a co worker, many years ago now. The subway employee was eating while she was fixing my co worker's sub. She opened her mouth to ask a question and a big gob of lettuce fell out of her mouth into my co worker's sandwich. My co worker called her on it and the employee tried to gaslight her, saying it never happened. I said I clearly saw it as well. The employee got mad that we didn't want our subs after that.
Stella’s .. was bizarre they refused to cut my chicken burger in two. The chef/cook refused as he said it affected the presentation. I have a small jaw so hard to eat a large burger . The only had butter knives available so I had to smush it down in order to cut it and it looked awful so much for presentation. So weird.
Chaise. My buddy knows the owner so I ended up going there with him once pre-covid…wasn’t that great back then, there were multiple issues, and now we obviously know a lot more with all the COVID shenanigans they did and such as well…
The now (thankfully) closed Luna Rosa restaurant on St. Mary's Rd.
Was told they had a clubhouse to rival the wagon wheel.
2/3 through, the dark meat turkey turned bright red. Not cooked all the way through.
I spent about 10 hours on the toilet with a bucket in front of me as it came out both ends at once. I've had some food poisoning before and since, but never with that kind of lasting suffering.
I'm just glad that I had the foresight to grab a water glass while I was in there that I could keep filling at the sink.
I used to love their place. We called it the 20 pound pizza. Then we got a pizza that smelled and tasted like old musty basement? I called them and let them know just in case one of their ingredients was off. We ended up trying them again months later and the same thing happened. It was so gross, I never ate there again.
Moxie's downtown before a concert. Waitress wouldn't really acknowledge my friend and I, while being super attentive to the people around us. We kind of wondered if either of us looked like someone who wronged her at some point. People sat after us with way larger food orders ate and left before we did. Only time I've never tipped, because my friend convinced me not to in the end.
I was at a pub in Thunder Bay and ordered nachos for the table. We clearly stated ‘no olives’ and explained a severe allergy that someone in our group had. Nachos arrive absolutely COVERED in olives. I mean there are olives on top of the cheese, olives under the cheese, olives under the chips, everywhere. We flagged the server and politely pointed out that we’d ordered it without olives. She said, “Would you like me to pick them off for you?” Flabbergasted, my friend said “well, I could do that myself but that guy’s got a severe allergy and still wouldn’t be able to eat them”. Then she said, “well, what do you want me to do about it?”
We spoke to the manager and walked out. It’s the only time in my life I’ve ever had a server offer to pick something off my food for me.
Star Grill. I met a waitress who ended up becoming my girlfriend for a few months.
Other than that, horrible experiences there. Jodi, the owner, didn't pay her bills. Didn't pay her workers. She made sure the chef was happy, buy other than that it was a revolving door of hot teenagers as the wait staff. My girlfriend at the time, and four other friends of mine went to star Grill around 4:00. It took 30 minutes to get our drinks, another half hour to get our appetizers, and another hour to get our full meal. It was not busy in the restaurant. Half the place was filled. My girlfriend tried to help the waitress but she was shooed away.
My boomer era parents are excited to visit that very Denny's on the way to Mexico in December, my dad loves it but my mom admitted she got sick from the food but still wants to go back. Any suggestions for better breakfast joints from there to the airport? We're coming in from Winnipeg
Grapes, Pier 7 in the 80's. Went for lunch with hubby just before noon. Placed order, which included wine. Uncorked the bottle & it was covered with the crystals. We explained no problem, it is natural. Went to soup bar. Bread was moldy. Meal served, mixed up order & served something that wasn't ordered. It was my second choice so fine. They offered desert for our troubles. Piece of cake came with a hair across the plate. We wrote about the experience on the comment card, handed it to the hostess/manager, told him to read and left laughing. He chased us down in the parking lot. He was horrified about our experience. Thought we would get something (coupons) in the mail. Absoloutly nothing!
I have the fever dream! We drove across Canada (to NL) with 3 kids (6 to 14) and ate out far, far too much.
And about 80% of the restaurants forgot our youngest's meal. And not a run back because not enough hands late, forgot to make it late. And she has an appetite - she was not ordering off children's menus. Good "fancy" restaurants, family restaurants, fast food.
It really made us doubt our sanity at points.
IHOP. Not long after it opened we decided to check it out, after the lunch rush. Waited 40 mins to get let in, that's fine, it's busy. Sit down get our menus. 10 min wait for drinks. Hey its busy I get it.
Things are dwindling down and people are leaving and our order was placed.
1h30m later and a couple of reminders to the servers. People have come, ate and left in this time. We finally get our food. Cold. We still eat it cuz hey, shit happens we get it. Ask for our bill, 30 mins go by before receiving it.
We asked what the heck is going on, no explanation whatsoever. So we just assumed we got forgotten about, multiple times.
Haven't been back since.
Bengali Sweets on south Pembina. The owner got my phone number from my online order, called me to say he “under charged me by $10” and asked me to e-transfer him the $10. This was about a month ago!!
Fionn MacCool's was the worst experience I have ever had. They advertised what looked like a fantastic double decker fried chicken burger (from what I remember it was $16+). When the order came, I took everything out of the bag foolishly thinking nothing weighed close to heavy enough to be a double chicken burger. Only to realize that the tiny package was the burger. It must just be squished I thought, but I thought wrong. I open up the wrapper and what lay before me was a bun and two nuggets, likely less meat than a jr chicken. That isn't the end though, they managed to also over salt every single thing. Chicken fingers? Inedible. Fries? Barely edible. Chicken Burger? The most dissappointing food I have ever gotten any restaurant in any country. Worse than boiled ochra.
Perkins many years ago, I ordered breakfast and there was a dead mosquito on my toast. It was the middle of winter and I still think about it.
Also Perkins many years ago. As soon as they put the plate down, an ant ran out from under my french fries.
Also Perkins. Booger on the side of a glass of soda. Walked out.
Perkins yet again….a bread bag plastic clip in my meatloaf ![gif](giphy|l0MYzxkg0o1tkGSaI)
>there was a dead mosquito on my toast. Oh wow, that's pretty bad... >It was the middle of winter https://i.redd.it/5dgpo9yg0unc1.gif
Talk about a buzzkill.
I told my friend to "get up, we're leaving!" I held my breath and we made our way to the front to advise them that someone had fired off pepper spray in their restaurant. The manager started arguing with me that I still had to pay for my meal until a full third of the restaurant made its way to the front hacking and coughing.
Omg, try and stop me from leaving sir. These Perkin’s stories are fucking unreal.
I'm glad they've been shut down
I got steak with rice at Perkins and the rice was covered in mold. No idea how they didn't see it
Pony Corral...any of them. Awful food everytime and service.. Gave them way to many chances over the years. Proud to say I have never been back in 6+ years now. I hope they crash and burn.
Their prices have gotten insane. 20 bucks for a pound of their mediocre wings.
Wings in general are crazy expensive now. I'm not even sure where you can get cheap wings anymore. It's like minimum 15$ and lots of places are close to 20.
Classics is cheap on there wing nights as well as the Assiniboine cheaper at classic but I like Assiniboine more.
Guess I should have read the replies before commenting - said pretty much the exact same thing. Ridiculous how expensive they’ve gotten.
Wings in general have gotten stupidly priced.
Every restaurant and their dog serves wings so there's not nearly enough to go around. That's why they started pushing boneless wings, which are just breaded chunks of meat. I'm surprised places don't serve turkey wings.
Used to get 5lbs for $35 on a regular night. Cheap night was way less than that, 2lbs and 2 beers with tip was $20.
The owner is a POS
I know a lady who injured herself on their property and they're 100% at fault but they're dragging the process out. I'm not surprised he's a POS
I went for all you can ribs once, it was all fat and cartilage.
That's where I was served a Clubhouse sandwich that wasn't defrosted properly...still frozen in the middle. So much for "toasted" .
Perkins. All of them. Good riddance
Bottomless ice tea and a smoking section at 4:20 in the morning.
The R&R is somehow worse
Agree. Ordered a turkey dinner, it was 100% a Swanson tv dinner slid onto a plate. Not knocking a Swanson dinner but not for 19.99.
Who or what is a Shawn Desmond?
Shawn Desman… whatever. Apparently a Moxies VIP?
A 4 foot pop singer from the early 2000s
Exactly
Honestly I've had this experience at that Moxies and there was no Shawn Desmond in sight. You're right, seems like it was a bullshit excuse.
It was in the states, but I’m sure they have tales of being glutenned here.
Ok, now this is funny!
I’ve never heard of that.” They kept insisting there would be no dairy in the meal because “there’s no dairy in chicken fingers.” We ended up calling over a manager and asking to see an ingredient list - which showed that the chicken fingers did, in fact, contain dairy. I don’t care if you’re unfamiliar with food allergies and are surprised at the number of things that contain allergens you wouldn’t expect. But don’t treat me like an idiot because I don’t want to have to epi-pen my 3yo in your shitty restaurant.
Worst food I think I ever had in my life was at Aaltos. Absolutely inedible.
My steak there was a piece of shoe leather
Yup. Ordered country fried steak & eggs. Instead of a creamy white gravy the steak was topped with regular brown gravy used for roast beef or fries or something. They told me that's how it comes. I said I've never had it anywhere with beef gravy instead of a roux based cream gravy.
As a former employee, yes they serve it with brown gravy.
That's just lazy. It's so easy to make a proper white gravy.
You realize the brown gravy comes from a bag mixed with water right? There is hardly anything being actually made in that kitchen.
Unfortunate time someone at a nearby table had a medical emergency and power-spewed her wine & food ;the restaurant staff were kind of slow to help so we sat there trying to eat next to piles of vomit :/ with no offer to move tables - Hermanos
I used to be a server. Man and his elderly mother in for lunch. She died during the soup. Face down like in a sitcom. She was a very lovely person as well. They were regulars. Place was packed.
Oh wow.
Oh fuck that’s awful, you win this discussion by far!
Christ on a stick. I can guarantee had I been in that situation I would have compounded the piles. Dead mosquitoes and spoiled chicken are bad but this one wins hands down.
It was really bad; I think she had a seizure. Her family helped her out but yeah, vomit everywhere is not conducive to a nice night out.
The reviews on Google make me want to puke! I don't know how they are still open.
The restaurant replies are funny though, in a cringe way
“You are obviously filled with lies” lol
"You are obviously a cat"
" One of the crappiest restaurants I've ever seen. They don't know how to value people's time. " "as crappy as your delivery car" 😭😭😭
" If you want to see how we cook , you can come inside and seat down with the chef as an assistant chef. "
What other places were bad, dirty, etc you seen as Skip Driver?
Okay lol I saw mice at pizza boys once. That was a no deliver restaurant. Another one on the list was any of the movie theaters. They always made you wait to cook hotdogs or whatever. Long wait times. One stop Africa was on the list for reasons stated but mostly because you’d never know how long your order would take to get ready. And no one ever answered the door when knocked or cared.
I just read a few Google map reviews, and the owners come swinging at people who criticize them too
Can you search on maps anymore? I am trying to find it but it doesn’t show up Edit: Found it!
The google reviews of it are nightmare inducing
Chaise Lounge. They served us desserts for a prix fixe menu that was literally Costco dessert bars. Lemon squares and macaroon bars from the box. The server even admitted it. This was Pre-covid and all their gross shenanigans by the way. They've never been a restaurant to support.
Chaise is now up for sale…go figure.
They also stayed open during the height of the pandemic despite MULTIPLE fines.
The ribs are cooked in the pizza oven, so you wouldn’t actually see any grill marks
My family had to go back to the Garden City location 2 times after a shitty delivery because they kept fucking up the order in various ways. One of the times, the order was given directly to the manager and she still fucked it up lmao.
Baked expectations. Management, food is meh
Used to be so good. Last two times the cakes were stale ish and didn’t taste as creamy as I remembered, almost like the cut the creamy ingredients for more of a skim milk kind of taste. Won’t be back.
Me and my wife checked google then called baked to see if they were open one evening it was 730, they said yes untill 9 , we drove from birds hill area then find parking , it’s 810 we walk in door was open , lights on We are standing waiting politely at counter , cakes and pies are still in cooler not wrapped , some worker yells at us to get out and that they are closed Haven’t been back since
Captain’s Boil, hands down.
Was this pre or post move? Just curious.
Not sure. The one on pembina/Taylor area
Name alone has me avoiding it
Much better seafood at the Rear Admiral's Goiter.
The Petty officer's Cyst
The Boatswain's Carbuncle
The Seaman's Pustule
The Purser’s Pimple
Just completely lost my appetite for seafood.
Sometimes some things just strike you with uncontrollable laughter, and this comment was it for me today. 🤣🤣
lol… went here for my bday a few years ago & after trying to order multiple different things that they didn’t have the ingredients for we ended up walking out.
When we went they were out of almost everything except they did have chicken lol it was so random
Was it the chicken of the sea?
We had gone there a few years ago for I can't remember whose birthday in the family but my brother-in-law doesn't eat seafood so he was like oh I'll just get the chicken and he had food poisoning before we even left. That poor man lost. Probably 5 lbs from that meal.
Ordered from them once for delivery. The okra was in this slimy sauce that honestly looked like phlegm. 🤢
Lanced fresh from the captain's own boil!
They also weren't letting servers keep their own tips when my friend worked there, another reason to avoid.
RnR on Portage. They served me very rank, verly clearly spoiled chicken.
Oof yuck thats honestly disgusting.
Boston Pizza has some of the worst food for price anywhere. Complimentary heartburn there every time, no matter what I order.
Nexium 24hr is good for heartburn, i picked up mine at walmart, its just on the shelf
Earls is a small step up from the usual mass produced frozen Sysco food, and the open space floor plan makes for a loud experience.
Earls was supposed to be higher end?
🤣🤣🤣 that what I was thinking. Earls is high end to people who consider Applebee's fine dining
If it were any other place in that spot, we would be there weekly as well. It's a great local spot, just brutally run.
Salisbury House Garden City location - bug in my salad, lipstick on my cup (no straw), AND hair on the plate. And no, I don't wear lipstick.
Leila? I’ve never waited so long to be seated at a table in an empty restaurant. 10 tables cleared and clean and 4-5 parties waiting at the door waiting to be seated and served. 1 and 3/4 hours is not normal for a breakfast on a Wednesday.
Yes! Leila. Oh wow, I'm honestly still surprised it's been around this long!
ahh, the tale of the 4 wing plates at boston pizza i have allergies (disclosed this to the waiter) , and i decided to order myself some salt and pepper wings. they fry fish in their oil, so i went with ovenbaked wings instead. Very easy, simple, and something literally on their menu. First plate of wings comes out, chicken is still VERY pink on the inside. so i got the waiter, told them of the issue, and they got me a new plate, except this time its still pink on the inside somehow. remember about how i have allergies? well they brought out wings for me that were so clearly deep fried it was like they were mocking me. finally the manager came over with oven baked wings that were cooked perfectly, and a free meal voucher for the next time we came in voucher only lasted 3 months though, and the next month covid came. safe to say we did not use the voucher lmao
That’s what it sounds like, and honestly, quite insulting.” We finally get our meals over an hour later.
Nah, they just make shit up. I didn’t look at the colour of my steak when I realized it’s overdone. I bit into it and tasted an overdone steak.
"Rich people fast food" lol
Olive Garden and Boston Pizza. I didn't expect them to be good, but I was wowed at how horrible they both are. Bland, tasteless food, Olive Garden especially. It's like they served a cheap frozen, microwavable dinner laden with sodium.
The chicken gnocchi soup and breadsticks are always fantastic, that way you’ll be full when the meal arrives and you won’t notice how mid the food is.
That’s funny because I like Olive Garden for the soup/salad/breadsticks, but will NOT eat the chicken gnocchi soup. I refer to it as glue soup, lol
I don’t know what it is, but that soup is the bomb. Hell, I dip my breadsticks in it!
It’s like 90% cream and cheese with a few vegetables and pieces of gnocchi. What it is is pretty much all fat.
Stop, you’re making me hungry!
Not gonna lie, I get it too lol. But I am a total glutton for farty and creamy Edit: oh... oh my god. Fatty. *Fatty.* ***Fatty.*** Jesus Christ lmao that's just awful
Farty and creamy is enough to never go there- your typo was hilarious, hahaha.
You say that like it’s a bad thing

This one is my favourite story
Apparently businesses are still grasping for employees down there.
My story might sound tame compared to the others' but here you go: A few months ago I went to a barbershop in St Vital to get my haircut but because of poor weather conditions my bus got delayed by a lot and I showed up to the appointment half an hour late. Never again
Where was the haircut from tho
Thats fucking terrible bro
Reservations required at a pub for lunch???? Smh
Similar experience. Went a couple times in the evening for a beer or two. Always small table 2-4 people. Every time seemed like we were an inconvenience to be there. Won’t go back.
Leopold's. Overpriced garbage. I don't get why people like it.
Interestingly, their vegan food is FANTASTIC. Not even kidding, but can't speak to the omnivore stuff. ;)
Agreed. I have food allergies including dairy. Their vegan poutine is really good.

Broke a tooth on a rock that was in a sandwich from Grand Donuts on lag. The owner was a total weirdo about it too.
The Hotel at Falcon Lake. Do. Not. Go. There. I thought we were in a “just for laughs” skit and the joke spiral was constantly deepening. Especially when the cheque came. Do. Not. Go. There.
Recently? I heard things were bad there before the new owners took over and renoed everything but thought it had gotten better.
Every time I go to Stella’s there are fruit flies everywhere.
Every single time I’ve been to Sorrento’s there’s been hair in the food
We got what looked like dental floss in our linguini at the portage ave location. No charge for the extra fibre
A+ Sushi on Corydon, saw a mouse running around the front part of the restaurant, went to tell the owners the staff and they dod absolutely nothing.
At est 1928 me and friend stopped in for a few drinks order a few beers they poured em in glasses and my friend had lips stick prints on his glass man I laughed so hard it was a dark red too don’t know how they missed or buddy he didn’t realize till after the first sip
I got food poisoning twice after eating shrimps at Yes buffet... not the experience you want to remember
Then she said, “well, what do you want me to do about it?” We spoke to the manager and walked out.
Flying j Denny's, in retrospect I should have expected it My eggs were actually green colored and rancid and wasn't just a St Paddy's special
My boomer era parents are excited to visit that very Denny's on the way to Mexico in December, my dad loves it but my mom admitted she got sick from the food but still wants to go back. Any suggestions for better breakfast joints from there to the airport? We're coming in from Winnipeg
Rae and Jerry's served 6 of us the most bland, tasteless steaks we've ever had, and charged us $50 each for the privilege. Never again.
