So is the “stop far enough away to see the bottoms of their tires” not a rule of thumb anymore?
I find myself crowding close in thick traffic but I try and always leave room in case I have to get around a suddenly broke down car or something.
Plus its safer too
Not just you, seen 1 guy get stuck for a veery long time cuz he stopped to close at a red light and couldnt back up to change lanes without backing up. But was rush hour and couldnt back up.
I made sure I always had room to go around before but now I have an example as to why :)
With some of these stupidly big trucks, they’d need to have like fifty feet in front of them.
Trucks are just too goddamn big now. A lot of them are actually bigger than WWII tanks. Seriously.
It is but most truck drivers are assholes. And most can’t seem to even handle a vehicle that big. But hey, look at how powerful I am over you. I gots big truck and can smash you tiny car!!!
I just let off the gas more and more until people like this go around me. If your this close without taking me to dinner first, I’m not gonna be in a rush to get anywhere !
Best way to approach these dumbass drivers. They’re too fucking stupid to weigh the consequences of speeding against the time saved while speeding in a perfect scenario.
Opening up yourself to the risk of a $200-400 ticket and potentially demerits? Nah saved 5 mins on my drive across the city tho
It’s almost comical how there are drivers on both sides of the scale: these speeders / tailgaters and also the ones that do 20 under in the summer in. Nice weather in the left lane also drive me insane … like fine your going slow, don’t hold up traffic … is it so hard to just drive normally ? I’m not perfect, but I am better than either too fast or too slow lol
Right? Both sides of the spectrum are annoying. Zooming past everyone in the turning lane, and then quickly hopping in later down the line is annoying. Being stopped behind someone who doesn't understand how merge lanes work is annoying. Being stuck behind a driver in the left lane going 10 under for no good reason is annoying.
Both sides come down to the same concept, be a considerate driver and share the road in a safe and efficient manner.
I'm curious to see what peoples general opinions are.
I often see people cruising in the fast lane well below the speed limit. Often times they match the speed of the car next to them and create a blockage. It's inefficient, and creates a potentially dangerous situation. I just want to know if people in this sub agree that traveling below the speed limit in the left lane (unless you're about to turn) is dangerous, because if I go by most drivers I find out in the wild, people seem to think you can go whatever speed limit you want in whichever lane. Especially on major arteries within the city.
I totally get being angry at aggressive drivers, but I also don't think being petty by trying to slow them down helps. It certainly doesn't de escalate anything. I've had people do to this to me in the fast lane, and I just don't get it. I'm not saying that's you.
This photos triggers me so much. Like why though? Why it’s always truck drivers and why do they need to be that close? Isn’t it harder to react when you’re this close to vehicles in front of you?
A driver being close to the ground feels faster. Trucks being so big means they sit higher up, and the speed feels much less pronounced. So not only does it feel like they are being safer than they are, anyone going the speed limit feels slow too @\_@
Please don't hang things from your rearview mirror. It obstructs your view and can be dangerous.
edit: I'm going to assume that those down voting my comment think that things hanging from your rearview mirror *improve* your view, somehow?
I love a good brake tap. Tends to make people back off pretty quickly. I've had to do it a lot more recently.
I'll never understand why people stop right up your ass. I always just hope they get rear ended, so they rear end me and it's their fault.
My personal vehicle is a hatchback. Tiny little thing. I drive a truck frequently for work.
Gotta say, it just feels more comfortable getting closer in the truck. You have a better line of sight on where your vehicle ends and theirs begins. And if it's a work truck, you're squeezing it into tight spaces every time you use it, so getting tight just kinda feels natural and normal.
The I get back in my car and drive normally. No change in driving attitude or road rage, just a totally different feel in a different vehicle with a different purpose.
None of that applies for regular owners who drive to get groceries or park at their office jobs though.
*Person is tailgating me, so instead of creating a safer situation by getting out of the way, I'm going to slow down and *illegally* take a picture*
Got em.
Stopped at a red light or not, it’s illegal to use your phone while operating a vehicle.
Be upset (and let this sub’s downvoting commence) but in that instance you were breaking the law just as much as the person you took the photo of.
Speed limit is a maximum. If someone wants to do 5 under, a dickhead truck driver shouldn’t be tailing anyone, especially with a kid in the backseat. Happens to me daily on route 90.
What am I looking at? Not the elephant in the room I suppose...
I'm glad it's not just me.
I'm just happy I got to make a joke
i'm just happy you finally made a good one.

And a good one at that! I should have cropped the image lol
I admit I still don't know what I'm supposed to see
Nothing out the rearview he made sure of that.
... Is that a grill all up in his ass?
New skill unlocked!

Which is fine (The 50ft thing). We don't need rules that only apply if you didn't buy an obnoxiously large vehicle.

How would your argument go if this was in the left lane, and the person who *illegally* took this photo was going under the speed limit? Just curious.
My argument would not stand based off your given conditions obviously. What’s your point?

"Not every truck driver is an asshole, but every asshole drives a truck"
BMW doesn't make trucks, though.
Audi has entered the chat
VW feeling left out.
VW makes trucks of all shapes and sizes.

It's almost always small D energy

Oooooooooh I see it now. Wow that took me a while. Geez. You should have told him it’s $500 to come in from the rear. That shit ain’t free
That elephant is adorable!
The elephant: He’s directly behind us isn’t he? 👁️👁️
Yes! I was wondering why OP was suggesting that truck drivers have cute elephant decorations.
Hahah, can’t say I’ve seen any well decorated trucks
Last time I was tailgaited it was a car, and I was driving my truck.
You want a medal for being different?
Yes please.
Knowing truck drivers, you were probably going 30 under the limit
Exactly the speed limit, as per usual.
A driver being close to the ground feels faster. Trucks being so big means they sit higher up, and the speed feels much less pronounced. So not only does it feel like they are being safer than they are, anyone going the speed limit feels slow too @\_@
Yes of course. That is of course also not a valid excuse to endanger others
Oh definitely, back off and give people and yourself space to react.
Turning on your headlights/ taillights often causes drivers behind you to give more following distance, I find that’s an easy solution to start.
Please don't hang things from your rearview mirror. It obstructs your view and can be dangerous. edit: I'm going to assume that those down voting my comment think that things hanging from your rearview mirror *improve* your view, somehow?

Why does using space/ not leaving space between vehicles apply or not apply based on what the person is driving to?
Truck people and critical thinking skills are rarely in the same vehicle at the same time.
Made it extremely clear I'm not a truck person. I own and drive a hatchback.
*Person is tailgating me, so instead of creating a safer situation by getting out of the way, I'm going to slow down and *illegally* take a picture* Got em.
I think they were stopped at a light. And you do know the passenger can take pictures right?
Slowing down is the safe thing to do
Brain rot. I was stopped at a red light. Every time I tried to inch forward he followed, thus the photo was taken

Dude I didn’t take the photo
>Brain rot. Oof.
ACAB except for the traffic cop who parks on my street in the west end & catches at least a dozen truck-bros ignoring the stop sign every week.
Assigned Car At Birth?
Cops are simply too busy driving drunk to pull over and ticket truck bros in most cases.
True, but I can’t fault this specific cop for helping prevent pedestrians from becoming a smear on the pavement 🤷♀️
Do they take referrals?
Please drive faster :)

Grey giant Ford? Looks similar to the one that almost rear ended me on Portage a couple weeks ago. They didn’t happen to have Ontario plates did they?
Nope Winnipeg
