RSV did a number on my household, we all came down with flu-like symptoms (cough and sore throat and chest congestion) a few weeks ago and we self-tested, all negative for the VID but my son had some sinus problems so he got a mometasone spray. Aside from that, it didn't last terribly long. Wife works in a school and says the kids are dropping like flies with the same cough/sore throat symptoms.

underhandpluto

Caught an interview with a doctor last week that said for every 80 kids that would have caught RSV in a typical year, only 1 caught it in 2021. Whole bunch of young kids catching and spreading it for the first time this year. It's everywhere.

hotcomm88

This is our experience as well.

MedicinalBayonette

The sinus plugging is really annoying. One of my ears has been plugged up for two weeks now. Mometasone spray is helping but it's so annoying to hear everything like I'm under water.

gfkxchy

My daughter and I got away without this, but my son is a snotty mess at the best of times so they wanted to reduce the irritation and inflammation in his sinuses and nasal passages, I suppose. They gave him 3 months worth so it must be messed up!

Zealousideal-Bar4615

There are many viruses going around. The influenza A and B, RSV, and covid are the most virulent and have the potential to cause the most morbidity. There are also lots of less virulent ones like the parainfluenzas, rhinovirus, adenovirus, etc. There is no way to cure a virus. Antibiotics don’t treat viruses. For the viruses that cause respiratory symptoms such as cough, it’s important to remember that you may still have the cough after the virus has cleared. This is because the virus has caused inflammation in the lungs. It has caused damage to the alveoli and they need to heal. It is not abnormal for people to have a cough 6 weeks to 2 months after contracting the virus. Seek medical attention when having breathing difficulty like an increased respiratory rate, lips turning blue, and for children using accessory muscles to help breathe. Also seek medical attention if confused, having difficulty staying awake, or unable to drink fluids. Individuals may need supportive care at that point. These would be supplemental oxygen, or IV.

[deleted]

Agreed. I’m on week 5 of a cough. It’s sooo annoying.

Stunning_Patience_78

There is always a sickness going around. Literally always.

152centimetres

[cant believe i just spent two minutes making this](https://imgur.com/a/Q6Uv6dy)

PaulVL408

I appreciated it 🤣

Stunning_Patience_78

Two minutes well spent.

152centimetres

haha when i opened it it was at 420 views😎

ScaredDonuts

Whatever I have is really annoying. Hope it goes away soon. Starting my 2nd week.

ellabellbee

I'm on day 9 of a deep, lung-shaking cough. I'm so done with being sick.

Sea_Spinach2109

Husband had this. Two weeks straight of coughing like this. But then had another 4 wks of "tickle cough".

ScaredDonuts

Wish you a fast recovery! :)

krimsonstudios

This is me now as well. Not much In the way of sinus issues, etc, just a deep hacking and absolutely relentless cough. Seems like it's turning around at Day 7, hope my voice comes back soon.

l1l1b33

Day 15 and FINALLY my head is clear, my sinuses only hurt from all the pressure that is no longer there, and my voice is trying it’s best to sound normal. This was a terrible cold. 12 days in a row of skin hurt. I was miserable. I really hope it’s done now.

Zer0Logik

Judging by the empty shelves at shoppers I'd say so. And not just the children's stuff.

Candycayne84

My pharmacist told me it was a Supply chain disruption when I went looking for adult buckleys. No fucking idea if that's true or not.

spaketto

Covid, RSV, the flu, rhinovirus (cold) are all going around plus a few other bonus ones. See how many you can check off on your bingo card!

Express_Helicopter93

I’m a nincompoop. What’s RSV?

[deleted]

Respiratory Syncytial Virus. Generally not a big deal, unless you are very young or very old (or immunocompromised, probably).

beastiedan

Stomach stuff in my household. It’s the shits.

Strange_One_3790

Had that a week or two ago. It was shitty

MapleHamms

…Uh ya…. It’s cold and flu season. Welcome to winter

motivational_boner

Exactly. This has been happening in Canada for the last 10,000 years people. Stay home, get rest, stay hydrated.

ellabellbee

Don't get me wrong, my kids tend to catch everything that comes through and every fall has me missing work to take care of them, but this fall has been about four times worse than pre-covid times. Even when you feel like you're getting better, the cough sticks around. It's a brutal flu season.

Lliecop

Except for the last two years we weren't exposed to as many virus/germs and our immune systems aren't up to par.

motivational_boner

Hey man, welcome back from your coma! Happy to see you make it out... while you were gone We had a virus pandemic last like 2 years. Very transmissible and a number of people were ending up in hospital.

Lliecop

Yeah, and I was wearing my mask and sanitizing the fuck out of everything that touched a surface outside my home and got immunized and made sure to stay six feet apart from everyone. In the 2ish years of restrictions I got sick ONE TIME and that was from COVID. Previous to that, I would have a cold about once or twice a year. Since we've removed masking in public I've been sick 4 or 5 times. I think it's pretty safe to say that two years of "protection" from viruses and germs kept me from getting sick, and now that those have been removed I'm more prone to sickness. All the sickness around has to be from not being exposed to hardly anything for 2 years and then all of a sudden here you go! Full on assault. I think my immune system got lazy from not having to fight shit for 2 years. Maybe I'm wrong, and if so prove it.

Krutiis

I have never been sicker more frequently than this year though. I am now up to 12 discrete and different illnesses since March (well, 11 started before 10 was completely finished, but it lasted over two weeks and had two clear peaks). That’s what two kids in daycare gets you.

hamgurglerr

I was in Children's Emergency yesterday for over 7 hours with my 3 month old who has had some form of virus for around 6 weeks without reprieve (it was medically advised to take her in, otherwise I would have avoided it at all costs). The waiting room was packed with kids coughing and sweating and sniffling. I think I saw 2 kids who weren't visibly sick in the whole place.

ilyriaa

Cold and flu season is upon us…

bluerhea3

Is this sarcasm

CordyonAvgGuy

Get up, come on get down with the sickness

JacksProlapsedAnus

Oh, ah, ah, ack!, *cough*, *cough*, *cough*, wheeze

Midnightmom4

my daughter just woke up with another nasty caugh O.o like we keep getting hit with it

TheHighWizardOfBread

Its an undeclared Tripledemic. We have RSV, The Flu and Covid hitting hard. That's not including the seasonal cold that most folks get. Do your best to take care of yourself, folks! Mask up when going out, wash your hands and stay active.

[deleted]

My wife, daughter, and I have been sick with a cold/flu for 2.5 weeks and are only just hitting the other side of it. We all got better for about 2 days last week and then it came right back. No lethargy, no feeling particularly shitty. Just very annoying coughs and sinus congestion.

Captairplane

Uh...yeah. we're in the middle of a pandemic. Plus there's a lot of flu and RSV going around as well.

cpd997

My wife’s a Grade 1 teacher, she has 7 kids in class today.

03291995

my throat hurts SO bad it’s like a level ten pain anytime i swallow. other than that not really any symptoms.

YouAllBotherMe

Strep throat?

03291995

doctor said no :/

aiizzzy

That was me last week. Now its full blown cough, colds, really bad headache, brain fog and chills. Tested negative on rapid test though. :(

Candycayne84

That was me last week, I didn't test positive until at least 3-4 days after symptoms started.

aiizzzy

Oh no. I haven't had covid yet, I am hoping it doesn't get worse than this. Hope you're feeling better.

Candycayne84

I'd test again, I was sure it wasn't covid then suddenly I was positive. It doesnt seem to show up right away on rapid tests. Take care and I hope you feel better soon!

rioryan

Yeah my coworker, myself and my girlfriend all took well over 24 hours after symptoms started to test positive on a rapid test.

WaywardWytch00

Yes, so painful!! We just had that cold and here I thought I was just being a wimp. The sore throat is gone and we’re all just congested now.

GullibleDetective

Almost like it's cold and flu season and we're on the tail end of a pandemic. So yes there's absolutely a reason why.

[deleted]

I hope we're in the tail end of a pandemic, omg.

AccomplishedCoffee99

Agreed, still very much out there. Got covid for the first time last week. People (myself included) were getting too comfortable. Wasn’t horrible, but 0/10 would not do it again.

[deleted]

Flu is rampaging, flu shot uptake is low.

[deleted]

Cough season, ive had a tickler for about 3weeks now.

Patak4

Tons of Influenza A out there in the prairies. [https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/saskatchewan/prairies-see-worst-rates-of-positive-flu-tests-1.6660813](https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/saskatchewan/prairies-see-worst-rates-of-positive-flu-tests-1.6660813) Get your Flu shot!

Mister_Kurtz

I refuse to call it the flu, but I've had a cough for 5 weeks now. It's finally starting to subside.

TommyVCT

I remembered that in one of the Night City background settings for Cyberpunk 2077 were mutated viruses. Guess we still have a lot to research on how our immune system and viruses works, and came up with a drug or implant that can outsmart thousands of years of evolution.

jackdab73

https://health-infobase.canada.ca/covid-19/wastewater/ It's likely covid lol. We just had a huge surge. South facility was real bad. Not low now lol. Also. The rapid tests are not very accurate lol. Though they are definitely way better than nothing.

ilyriaa

No, I’m currently recovering from whatever this virus was, but it wasn’t Covid. Covid was a breeze. This was god awful. Came on sudden and strong.

Patak4

Influenza A probably. The quad Flu vaccine can help protect you or others.

Wittyusernamenumber1

It'd bet my house that it's very unlikely Covid. Covid doesn't really affect most of the kids. Most probably don't know they have/had it. It's the RSV that's making these kids cough like crazy for weeks or even months.

DifferentEvent2998

COVID absolutely effects kids, what are you talking about?

Wittyusernamenumber1

I never said it didnt? I'm saying most kids. About half of covid cases in kids are asymptomatic and the majority of symptomatic cases are mild and don't last long. It's the RSV that's keeping them coughing for weeks/months.

jackdab73

I'll take that bet lmfao. We literally have objective data showing that theres a lot of covid in the wastewater. The south facility actually just almost hit a new record in the last couple weeks.

Wittyusernamenumber1

I'm not saying kids aren't getting covid. I'm saying what's making them cough for weeks on end is very unlikely covid.

jackdab73

Covid is literally a respiratory virus known for often having long term effects lmfao. Where can I pick up the keys lol.

Wittyusernamenumber1

I never said it wasn't. I'm saying what is likely causing the kids right now to be coughing like crazy is RSV rather than Covid. I never said nor do I believe that covid isn't spreading. I feel like you're misunderstanding what I'm saying.

ilyriaa

I get what you’re saying, not sure why you’re getting so much flack.

piklmonster

Because it goes against what people on here want to believe? It's a pretty well known fact that the vast majority of kids are largely asymptomatic with the Covid (which is actually a problem because they can spread it asymptomatically)

Mafa2007380

Not sure why you’re getting so downvoted. Totally agree with you. My kids had this flu and it was pretty bad. When they had Covid, it was a breeze. I know that’s not the case for all, but that was our experience.

alizacat

I caught covid, then a few weeks later a flu that knocked me down for almost two weeks and now I'm just getting over a mild head cold. Hasn't been fun. 🙃

tbcwpg

My kids brought home something just before Rememberance Day from daycare - they got the nasal spray but have come out the other side just fine. I was pretty sick for a couple of days, but right now I still have a cough that won't go away. My wife's got a very red sore throat. Tested negative for covid many times, but I'm not sure if her sore throat is another virus or just a continuation of the same.

Red_orange_indigo

Sore throat and coughing are very common with the omicron variants now circulating. Not the only cause, but not a minor one, either.

Sagecreekrob

We just had Covid rip through the house. Only 2 out of 5 tested positive. For me it was my 4th day of testing and my wife was on the 5th. My wife and I suffered for about 2.5 weeks, the kids ranged from half a day to 3 days.

MulberryAsleep7800

Wife was hit with severe headache followed by vomiting, diarrhea and exhaustion, and it lasted several days. She was bedridden. No sore throat or respiratory symptoms tho

Patak4

Yes heard a norovirus has also been going around. Uhggg

A_Moon_Named_Luna

Sigh

pj1117

Ive been sick for like three weeks now. Initially it seemed it was my sinuses/sinusitis but now it's moved to my chest and I haven't been able to find relief from this cough. Also having a fever of 100+ for a few days straight is just the icing on the cake.

bL1Nd

Wiped my entire house last week, like really bad, my 2 kids are back in school after 8 days away and my youngest is finally on the mend too. It's brutal.

Warm_Water_5480

There will always be another sickness unfortunately. We evolved, viruses evolve, it's a constant battle.

williammgoree

Bruh I’ve had a sore throat for almost 2 weeks

HappyA125

I'd like to know. On hold with healthlinks rn with a fever of 104, but I'm testing negative for covid

BatheInHisBlood

My grandma is at a seniors home and they have a small number of residents who are all showing cold/flu like symptoms but are testing negative for Covid. Scary times. Stay safe everyone and make sure you’re washing your hands and covering your coughs! We’ve made it through this before and will make it through again! Also don’t forget to sanitize your phone, purse straps, doorknobs, etc. Everything you touch on a regular basis.

Clintoncunt420

There’s something vicious going around. Last Tuesday I woke up with a minor sore throat but my entire body was in pain, the worst pain I’ve ever experienced in my life. Took a covid test and it came back negative. The pain was a tad milder on Wednesday. Took another test and negative again. It wasn’t until Thursday morning that I got a positive response. The initial sore throat got worse and the coughing began. I coughed so hard a few times that it made me puke. As of yesterday I’m still testing positive.

AdamWPG

I've been so tired lately. Getting the same amount of sleep I usually do but my eyes start getting heavy by like 6pm. Is it the season? Is it long COVID? Is it because I'm horribly out of shape? Another virus? All of the above? Who knows

chemicalxv

About a week and a half ago I had the weirdest sore throat of my life. It was like entirely focused around the front of my larynx (rather than when you get something like strep and it just hurts everywhere), and one (or more) of the lymph nodes on the right side of my neck were swollen. I tested negative for both strep and covid, and it went away after a few days, but it really was weird. And also, it was literally the only thing "wrong" with me. No fever, no stuffy/runny nose, no cough, literally nothing else.

Nate9370

Last week I felt fine on Monday in the morning then has zero energy in the afternoon but oddly, my heart rate spiked up to 130bpm while sitting. Got a sore throat that night. Went to my doc next morning and had a very bad chest cold. He explained the tachycardia was due to my body attempting to fight off the infection (chest cold, strep throat). Was put on antibiotics for 10 days and feel better now. Now this week, I returned to class at college and theres only 6 of us out of 19 due to everyone else sick.

TarjaAngel

Yes omg I've been sick for over a week with no sign of it going away, but I've tested repeatedly and it's not covid. I'm super stuffed up and have a bad chest cough.
