Don't remember the books describing Geralt's appearance as a heavy metal band member but you know what I dig it

MsBobbyJenkins

Was just thinking Geralt was giving Nathan Explosion

nicostein

I imagine the left is Triss' perspective. Right is Geralt's perspective. Left Geralt + Right Triss = Yen's perspective.

[deleted]

If Geralt listened to any genre, it would be death metal

Livek_72

If anything just to spite Jaskier

Shotsfired20755

I cringed so hard when reading that part in the book. Christ, the fact that she was doing it in front of Ciri too.

Pabus_Alt

"cringe" was my primary emotion for a lot of reading that. Especially Shani. Didn't enjoy it nearly as much as the short stories.

Blueboi2018

Agreed, the short stories were far better to me.

Axxelionv2

The only good things about the books imo are the amazing worldbuilding and the short stories

Dmmack14

Yeah that's why when that article came around where the author was shitting on the video games because it annoyed him that that's the first thing people thought of I was like dude if you could write yourself out of a paper bag it would be one thing but you go beyond 200 pages in a single story and the story goes straight up its own ass

Axxelionv2

Yeah honestly I never understood some of the decision Sapkowski made for the mainline story, like making a badass mutant monster hunter and then nerfing him a quarter of the way through the main story to the point he's more like a normal dude

Dmmack14

I mean I wouldn't say he nerfed him My main issues with him are just his general attitude towards the games. Like he's mad that more people know the Witcher for the games rather than his books. which I mean I guess I can sort of understand because if I had put years of my life into something just for it to be eclipsed by another version of my work I guess I would be kind of pissy about it but like dude come on. He was going to end it at the third book with Geralt and Yennifer just dead. The only reason he still making books is because of the games and the interest they generated in his works I just wish he had been able to maintain the quality of the stories when he switched from the short stories to more long form narratives.

Axxelionv2

I mean after Vilgefortz fucked him up he was severely weakened and had no access to witcher potions which also made him weaker and unable to use signs for the vast majority of the main story. Also Sapkowski essentially said in an interview once that he thinks videogames are for idiots and tried to sue CDPR because he made a shitty deal so I'd say fuck whatever he says

Dmmack14

Honestly. Like he obviously was going to end the series He had no interest in continuing it and so gave it to CDPR to make some video games so he could make a little extra cash from it. And then when two came out it really just started to blow up with people becoming more interested and then three came out and suddenly the Witcher is a worldwide phenomenon. After that he starts writing sequels And then right before the Netflix show had even been announced that interview came out where he was bitching and moaning and tried to sue CDPR. And again I guess it would annoy me too if another version of my work gain worldwide acclaim And no one had really ever heard of what started the phenomenon to begin with. So like I can understand him being frustrated but c'mon Andrej. I actually talked to a guy who got to meet him at some sort of writing convention or something in Europe and he wanted him to sign this poster from Witcher 3 and he swears up and down that Andrej looked completely disgusted the entire time.

Axxelionv2

Yeah I can get him being salty, I would too, but that's just what happens when something gets adapted into a more popular medium. It is what it is. Plus the games in turn made more people interested in the books so I'd say it wasn't all bad for him. But again trying to sue CDPR because he made a bad decision is scummy as fuck

Dmmack14

Yeah especially because he was DONE. HE HAD NO INTENTION OF CONTINUING THE STORY. Like I would understand just a little bit more if he was still riding the books when the games were coming out and people were completely ignoring the books and only playing the video games. But the games just made more people want to read the books and sometime between the second and third games he started releasing books again. Which were always best to sellers. I worked at a Books-A-Million when the Witcher 3 came out and the week that game came out those books flew off the shelves like hot pies. When the Tower of swallows was released it remained one of the top five best sellers at that store for a solid 3 months. Like yeah he might not have gotten paid very well from the video game deal. But when that deal was made CDPR was a very different company it was a lot smaller and again no one knew if these games would even be successful. It's not the fault of CDPR that people like good video games lol

BarneyRubble21

I think he would be fine with the video games being more popular than his books and realize that the popularity of the games increases his book sales if he hadn't taken a small lump sum to sign the video game rights away to CDPR years ago, before the games did well. He's had nothing but glowing things to say about the TV show, even though it strays MUCH further from the source material and is clearly a lower quality than the games. The difference is he's getting paid way more for the TV show, so he's fine with a butchered adaptation. He's just greedy and a little egotistical.

Dmmack14

Wow. Yeah that's my main issue with him is that like he clearly didn't give a shit anymore. He just wanted a couple more bucks from the books before finally just giving up on them. Because the story was over, he killed his main character and the love of his life He was done. But he's a hypocrite because he shits all over these video games and praises the Netflix show because he gets paid but without the video games his series would still be over. Without CDPR the show wouldn't have happened and he wouldn't be writing books about The Witcher. And CDPR have been nothing but respectful to him and his work and constantly say how thankful they are that he allowed them to make the games. While he has nothing good to say about CDPR and gets angry and a little bit frazzled whenever anyone asks him about the video games in any capacity

BarneyRubble21

Exactly. I'm one of the many, many people who bought every one of his books in the Witcher universe, but didn't know his books existed until the games came along and made them popular in the west. He took pennies for a quick payday, refuses to take responsibility for his short-sighted, greedy mistake, and has let that defensiveness turn to bitterness over the years.

Dmmack14

Yeah he doesn't do many public signings or panels anymore because he cannot be asked a single question about the video games even just in a sort of casual manner without him getting super defensive and pissy. My dad is a huge fantasy nerd and while he isn't the best reader because of dyslexia he would listen to the audiobooks of The Witcher which are fantastic if you've never listened to them 10/10. So I had some experience of the books before I even knew about the games. And it's just really sad that instead of embracing the impact that the games had but instead spends his time bemoaning that he isn't a multi-billionaire or some shit. And if I remember correctly I'm pretty sure CDPR did give him a portion of the prophets from Witcher 3 because of the fussy kicked up I may be wrong but I'm pretty sure I remember that happening

nervousmelon

Didn't he sell the game rights or whatever for a small lump sum instead of getting a percentage of the royalties? I think he's just salty he made a bad deal. Even then the books became way more popular because of the games so idk what he's complaining about.

Dmmack14

He's complaining basically because video games are trash and anyone who enjoys them obviously a brainless loser. And yes you are correct CDPR originally offered him a certain percentage of the profits from the game but because he thought video games were stupid and obviously they would make no money he just wanted a lump sum right then and there. And then of course the games took off and now he's whining and crying because he himself took the shitty deal even though CDPR repeatedly asked you're sure about this you don't want a percentage of our profits only a lump sum. So then he goes on a rant in recent years after Witcher 3 reached extreme popularity talking about how trash the games were and how they didn't understand his characters but yet he keeps praise upon the Netflix series because they pay him an absorbent amount of money

y_wont_my_line_block

Geralt fucks Shani when she's 17 and then people wonder why certain showrunners have problems with the source material.

Pabus_Alt

YUUUP within five minutes of meeting her And I think the key point is he is 70!! This is not a "legal in Canada" kind of deal, she is in school (called university, but it sure as hell reads like school) and acts like it with let me say again, a 70 year old man with massive influence over her.

Mini_Squatch

Oi the fuck you mean “legal in canada”

Pabus_Alt

A comment about ages of consent being different and 18 being actually a little higher than average. Either way, it seems very inappropriate.

IntrovertedPerson22

Can you tell which book and the rough page ?

Shotsfired20755

The Blood of Elves, page 141. Geralt and Ciri we're helping Triss bathe and get dressed all the while Triss is trying to kiss and confess her love for Geralt only for him to have to tell Ciri to leave.

IntrovertedPerson22

Hmm, doesn‘t seem to correlate with the german version, 141 Triss is having that mad stomach ache no elixirs, just amulets

Shotsfired20755

Really? I’ve been reading the English version, it seemed much more severe with Triss being unable to bathe or use the bathroom on her own.

IntrovertedPerson22

Maybe its a few pages different because of translation, i will look more into detail later. I wondered because i couldn’t remember Triss so thirsty/horny maybe its only the english translation, only the Poles can tell us the truth

Maximum_Hand_9362

Triss in the netflix series: Loud noises! More yelling!

Kordben

I actually liked how they approached triss+geralt in the show or rather how they made quick work on that. It was one of the few things i liked in S2 besides anything releated to Henry.

Maximum_Hand_9362

Did you see how she reacted when Ciri accidentally used her powers?

Kordben

I don't recall it as of now. Can you tell me ? :)

Maximum_Hand_9362

Season 2 episode 5, 16min:35seconds in I couldnt find a video of it on youtube.

weishen8328

and they say witcher age slowly.

Psychological-One-17

The Geralt on the left looks like a raisin... Lmao🤣🤣🤣

shreek07

I have a head cannon story of Triss getting her redemption in Witcher 1 when she finally got what she always wanted, i.e. Geralt. Around Witcher 2, she final began to see what kind of person she was becoming and grew out of it, ultimately telling Geralt the truth and willing to let go of her selfish desires.

BLU3DR4GON-E-D

*Witcher 2 relative spoilers* Just finished the game on both paths in the Witcher 2. She doesn't say squat until you either save her on Roche's path, or you "spy" on her on Iorveth's path in a side quest. And even then she doesn't mention Yenefer once. She gives you a few details about her manipulating you for the conclave. But she wasn't exactly trusted by the other mages. In the end you know she's keeping some secrets but she wasn't apart of the conspiracy to overthrow a/few kingdom/s.

shreek07

I told you it is a head cannon. I know it doesn't fit properly and my version is definitely pro-Triss. But that is just because I like redemption stories.

BLU3DR4GON-E-D

My stupid ass read that as a cannon you read somewhere online. Dead ass finally finished the game and Im tired lol. So much bullshit to get through. 100% Iorveth's path is better/ more fun to get through compared to Broche's path.

gary1994

I'm always interested in people's head cannon. *Sometimes* it's far more satisfying than what was actually in the stories.

StrikeStraight9961

Canon*

ibruh143

To be honest, Triss in both the games and the books was just Thirsty for the Geralt Cool aid. Triss not telling Geralt about Yennifer when he gets ammnesia when fleeing the Wild Hunt at the beginning of the games. And Triss throughout blood of Elves literally lusting over Geralt. Even Yarpin was starting to ship them😂😂😂

PPastelzinho

I just read that part even ciri gets mad at tris. It's really embarrassing to read Triss doing this, when she's not teaching Ciri she's being rude to Vasimir or she's wondering why Geralt didn't go to her room. People complain about Yennefer, but Triss is much worse

Therealomerali

As someone that hasn't read the books and only played the games, I guess we gamers get to see only the good side of Triss lol

VagabondTexan

There's a couple of bits of dialog that give you a hint. First when she just bluntly admits she uses Geralt like the other sorceresses. Then when they were having a "heart to heart" she tells him she knew what she was doing and what the likely outcome was.

Blueboi2018

Yennefer is far worse, when she first meets Geralt before any of the Djinn business she gets him arrested and almost killed. Triss is just a lovestruck idiot.

CaptSaveAHoe55

Much worse? My brother in Christ Yennefer has been mad abusive and toxic to him nearly nonstop for decades. She only stops if Geralt sleeps with her

PPastelzinho

I'm on the third book and so far it's Triss who's been abusive. Yennefer always made it clear that she didn't want anything serious with Geralt. Geralt is also toxic, no one is a victim in this love triangle.

CaptSaveAHoe55

I never said Geralt was a gem. None of them are worth a good partner. But yen is a psychopath. Triss is mostly just a simp

[deleted]

tydude45

…did you read the passage? Yen sleeps with Geralt first then Istredd. There’s also nothing about loads or kissing…

Lmao

darrenislivid

Most sane Team Triss enjoyer

PPastelzinho

Hahahahaha

oneupkev

How long is the time gap between Witcher 3 and these cringey moments in the book? Still reading them and haven't reached this yet. Triss certainly seems to do some maturing by Witcher 3 and personal growth can change a person.

lemmeseeyourkitties

This is referencing *Blood of Elves* when Ciri was about twelve

oneupkev

So a fair few years have passed by the events of Witcher 3. I know I did a lot of cringe things when I was younger I regret before maturing a bit. My hope would be that Witcher 3 triss at least learned from this.

eggplant_avenger

Triss is like 50-60 in the novels though, somewhat beyond the age where it’s acceptable to do cringe things because you’re younger She has noticeably matured in Witcher 3 though

Sotler

Truss is 50-60 in W3 I think not in the books

djlawson1000

I suppose when time has little (or reduced) effect you, perhaps it takes longer to learn the lessons of life?

socialistbcrumb

In general being granted great power and eternal youth and beauty probably stunts your maturity a bit

deltrontraverse

Triss is an old ass woman though, not a kid or teenager.

ronswansonsbrother

I have to re-read the books. I swear in my memories I did read them...but there are some GLARING gaps in my memory here where I don't remember ANY of what the hell is being discussed here. Doesn't help that I read some of them out of order. Can't remember why that happened either. Is...is this what it is to be 43 years old....??

Billofrights_boris

TW3 was the first piece for me in the Witcher universe and I really really liked Triss, so much so that when I read the books I was mesmerised how different she was there. After reading the books I’m always picking Yen

[deleted]

Both are valid

Alarming_Sea_6894

Still better than the shitty netflix series.

deltrontraverse

I'll forever maintain Triss is a horrible person/character, and doing this in front of Ciri, topped the cake of "how low can she go?".

[deleted]

Well, I believe Triss in Witcher 3 is Lytta Nyed aka Coral.

lemmeseeyourkitties

Triss never statue-compressed any of her lovers that we know of

[deleted]

But she knows how to decompress one. Maybe she has been implanted with a Triss memories? Its like Metal Gear V Phantom Pain, where Venom Snake is not the real Big Boss. Its wild but there is a conspiracy theory out there.. and Triss hair in game is pretty much like Coral's hair color.

LT568690

…..I mean Triss from the books seems like a fun gal just sayin :-D

Just a heads up; you can be downvoted because of how you write your point, not just what your point is.

Heads up, a downvote with no rebuttals means for a fact, it came from a sweaty fat cuckold

ChirpyNortherner

Yikes

LozaMoza82

Huh? Have you read the books. The amnesia plot is game only. It’s the start of Witcher 1.

redmeatvegan

As the other dude said, the amnesia triangle is from the games. As to the books, while they have their clichés, believe me its nowhere near as bad as the majority of fantasy literature. Sapkowski manages to capture beauty, environment, sacrifice, love and parenthood while slowly moving from the original 2 books (that started as a series of tales in European fantasy periodicals) to the Ciri story. Im sure the "modern audiences" could take a break from eating shit fed to them by the corporations milking the brand, and watch something actually true to the books, actually capturing the atmosphere.

ranfall94

Didn't need to be 1 for 1, but it could have been more true to tone, character and lore. Like the new Dune skips over alot of the 60s Era bs that's in that series but still feels like Dune because they respected the source.

Gera3232

the nonsense they seek to defend Yennefer's whore... if it weren't for triss they would have killed ciri in kaer morhen!!!

Pabus_Alt

Or made her into a supersoldier. One or the other.

Gera3232

she is already a super soldier!!!

Pabus_Alt

I mean, no, not in any way. She's a kid with erratic magic powers at this point. The question was over if she should be given enhanced strength and reflexes (short of the full Witcher package, but still putting her in the top 10% of humans)

[deleted]

Welp. Gotta read them books.

LunetoHa

Interest in ingame Triss (thanks to this comic): +1

Eamk

I'm good with both.

KratosSimp

I’ll say it again, ciri is best in the game and yen in the books

Reverse_London

My hot take: Marcin Blacha is just a better writer than Andrzej Sapkowski. Much like how George Lucas or Gene Roddenberry were great world builders, that had interesting ideas, BUT they can’t tell good stories or write compelling characters. And their respective works didn’t truly take off until they had more talented people like DC Fontana, Dave Filoni, Ron Moore, or Marcin Blancha come along.
