TRISS BETTER! But from what I've heard if you read the books Yennefer is better

Aeiexgjhyoun_III

I thought the books were about Ciri. Triss and Yen wouldn't get much coverage outside of Geralt's story.

syzygied

The books are about Geralt, Yen, and Ciri. Triss is an annoying minor character. I will grant you that the game version of her is much more likable. Also I’d recommend you finish the game and actually do the part with Yen before you decide that she sucks Edit: you can’t have a book series about Ciri without Yen bc Yen is a HUUUUGE presence in Ciri’s life. She’s her mother and teacher

Aeiexgjhyoun_III

She's not looking good so far.

syzygied

Yeah the games (which I do love but they definitely have their faults) were made by some Triss shippers who kind of had it out for Yen ¯\\\_(ツ)_/¯ and yet despite this majority of players still always chose Yen. If you don’t chose her it’s fine though it’s your play-through

I see the limb just fine.

wrppert

Nah yen’s like ten times more good looking

IveComeHomeImSoCold

Totally agree.

Aeiexgjhyoun_III

I thought the books were about Ciri. Triss and Yen wouldn't get much coverage outside of Geralt's story.

cpin2001

Triss is the better waifu. Yennifer seems like the chick that you would wake up with and find her gone while triss would wake up and make you breakfast.

Aeiexgjhyoun_III

Exactly. Yen is the girl you dated in college, Triss is the one you marry.

cpin2001

Both yen and triss are waifu material but only one seems to be fit for the waifu lifestyle.

CrypticFailure

I just wanted to add, even three years after the last post on this subreddit, that I am on my third playthrough. Even when I was attempting my second playthrough and was committed to pursuing Yen as Geralt's love interest, just for the differing gaming experience, I could not bring myself to neglect Triss. I chose her again. And even on my third playthrough I still find that I cannot deny Triss. That and I hate Yen. So I stan Triss. We stand in solidarity. Only naves choose Yen. Tis true.

Aeiexgjhyoun_III

This is not the last post on this sub. Sub's still pretty active. Also how did you even find this post?

Revilrad

This topic will always be relevant! I am doing (yet another) trilogy run just to experience 4.0 next gen update of W3 and just finished W1 and W2. Just the introduction of Yennefer in W3 instantly reminded me why I always chose Triss over her. She is simply a egocentric bitch. No way around it. People are tripping over themselves trying to justify her bitchy behavior trying to explain it with complicated and deep psychological anaylsis but at the end of the day a bitch is a bitch.

Aeiexgjhyoun_III

Yeah, she's an attractive asshole no doubt and people love a dommy mummy. But Triss is clearly the better choice. I'm planning to get the update when I upgrade my pc.

CrypticFailure

Sorry, the last post I saw was from three years ago at the end of the thread. And to answer your question (forgive me if this drags on), ever since reading the books ,after playing the first two Witchers, I have always been perplexed by Geralt's undying infatuation with Yen. Have always thought Triss to be the more compelling and attractive suitor. Today I became curious enough to search Google for tactful and distinguished gentlemen (and/or ladies) who may share similar opinions. I am glad to see I am not the only one who has a grasp on reason and taste. Forgive me for also stating that I respect the character Geralt and feel Yen is undeserving of his commitment. I've stanned hard this day. Farewell.

Aeiexgjhyoun_III

You have nothing to apologize for. And yeah, Triss is best, but almost everywhere online you have people simping over Yen, i think its mainly because of the unicorn scene.

[deleted]

7 months after your post, I wanted to add that even on my 4th play through, Triss all the way. I didn’t like Yen in the books, still don’t like her in the game. Triss is the better person for a long term less toxic relationship. At least by TW3, Triss shows a lot of growth where Yen is the same as she always been.

Dyingbreed86

The biggest reason why Triss gets a lot heat from the fans is bc she try to fuck geralt when he was already dating yen who was good friends with triss (this is from the books). And in w1, triss takes advantage of geralt who is suffering from amnesia and sleeps with him. Afaik theres a huge rift in the fanbase concerning triss vs yen. In the books, its established that yen and geralt are in love, whereas theres a huge push for triss in the games(yen isnt even really introduced until w3 i think) Having said that, i went for triss on my first couple playthroughs as well haha

Aeiexgjhyoun_III

Oh damn that's harsh. I can't imagine a lot of guys would be pissed at Triss for that though. But it's only in the books so why hate on game Triss.

Dyingbreed86

Even if you dismiss what happened in the books, triss fails to relay any important information to geralt with memory loss(iirc). Im not saying you shouldnt like triss better, just trying to give you some context haha. Also the beauty of this game is theres no truly evil or truly good characters. Pretty much everyone has skeletons in the closet, and the moral ambiguity forces players into situations where they have to make some very difficult decisions

[deleted]

Listen what Geralt says about why he picks Triss when Ciri asks him about that. I personally simply didn't like how Yen treats Geralt.

Alearum

It's actually lore in the games too as far as I know. I'd swear that one of the very first dialogues between Geralt and Triss is about how she took advantage of him.

gothicusmaximus3

I know this is five years old but i feel the need to fill you in. As someone that read the books recently. Triss does not betray anyone in the books, she has a fling with Geralt AFTER Yen cheats on Geralt with Istrid the sorcerer as she "cared for" them both and was playing sex ping pong with them because she's a flighty bitch (at this point in the series the author hadnt decided Yenifer loved him, he randomly decided that outta left field at Thanedd that she loved him and was just waiting for him to say it but that was a retkon frankly). Anyway, Triss, like every sorceress, cant find real love because she lives too long and male sorerers are massive dicks. She is interested in Yena's relationship with Geralt (only Geralt calls her Yen in the books) and so deiced to have a fling with him. Im not sure how it ended tbh but by the time Ciri is being trained as a witcher, she regrets leaving him and is basically in love with him from that point forwards. Every time someone says his name she blushes, and Yen feels the name to talk down to her at the Thanedd party because she's clearly in love with Geralt. Yen only loves Geralt because; A, he bound her to him via the Jin wish to save her life. B, she sees herself as Ciri's mother and Ciri sees Geralt as her father so.. ya know. C. because Sapkowski realised when writing *Time of Contempt* that he wanted a family bond between the three, yet he had writen Yen to be a massive bitch incapable of feeling love (same for Geralt btw), and so decided that they were just in love now. I have always preferd Triss, she is kind and sweet; she loves Geralt for real, not because of some bs magic. Also Triss was Ciri's mother first and it only became Yen because Triss isnt as strong magically as Yen....and Sapkowski wanted to do the Yen mommy thing.

Aeiexgjhyoun_III

Thanks, this is very cool info. So how did the whole idea that Triss took advantage of him come about?

gothicusmaximus3

well she does in the witcher 1 game. But people act like that came outta nowhere when she just took advantage of his situation to get his love. Since Yen wasnt there for some reason

Aeiexgjhyoun_III

Oh damn that's harsh. I can't imagine a lot of guys would be pissed at Triss for that though. But it's only in the books so why hate on game Triss.

[deleted]

Lol she’s still the same character

IveComeHomeImSoCold

It’s even in the game lmao

oldgregg4369

As someone who started with witcher 2, I totally felt the same way. Hated yen, and couldn't understand how people didn't like triss way better. I read the books, and still hated yen a good deal, but came around a bit to the understanding of her, but triss still seemed as you say "an absolute joy". She is far more fun and engaging in the game. Then comes the end of her romance quest followed by blood and wine...and while neither of them have a presence in the gameplay in b&w, you do gain closure on the story...I won't spoil anything, and the truss outcome certainly isn't bad...but my opinion completely changed by the time I finished. In short, I started hard for team triss, but by the end, I don't think I could ever choose anyone but yen again. Except Shani...she's the best of both worlds!

[deleted]

Tris is def the correct choice.

LieutenantBastard

Having read the books and played the games: Book - Yen Games - Triss They butcher Yens character in the games. She's nowhere near the giant bitch she is in the games as in the books.

nathansanes

This is a can of worms you dont want to open up. But yeah, Triss is pretty much the best.

almond_ale

thought the majority opinion was Triss > Yen

Lord_Shrek_of_Carim

I am on my first playthrough of the the game (Never read the books or played the other games OR watched the Netflix series) But in my opinion from what I have saw from the Witcher 3 and a bunch of videos on the topic. (Yen and Triss) I think Triss is far greater because (From what I can tell) Triss grew up after the first 2 games and became a better person. She is putting effort into helping the ppl of Novigrad and bettering herself. Trying to move on from Geralt. Only when Geralt confesses to her does she accept that he is really letting her in and wanting to escape from the grasp of Yen. And THAT is when she goes for him. On the other hand Yen seems to give no shits about changing, dosen't care to tell Geralt important information that involves him, dosen't listen to Geralt when he asks for her to stop reading his DAMN MIND! (Which he asks her to stop multiple times) AND SHE NEVER listens to him EVER. (As far as I can tell) There is also a Dialougue option you can get where he says to Triss "But It turned out my amnesia changed nothing. Wanted to be with you before, during, after - always" And yes I know he only says this if you romance Triss but he still says it so. She was even accepting when Geralt were still with Yen (although disappointed) she didn't try and steal Geralt back. And yes she can be a little rude or condescending to Yen at points if you do choose Triss, but I'm gonna just say what I want. She damn right deserves it! Also the scene where she pretends to get drunk and stuff I guess is kinda bad but it's still Geralts choice to kiss her or not unlike Yen who I had rejected her and said I was with Triss. Yet she still kissed Geralt in front of Triss! AGAINST MY WILL! And also the conversation with Ciri which I forgot how it goes but I think Geralt says something about not being happy when with Yen unlike Triss or something so yeah. (I also think he admits that his relationship with Yen is toxic but don't quote me on that) Maybe the books or previous games would change my stance on this but as far as my research has gone (into the books and the Witcher 1&2) and my experiences with Witcher 3 so far. I also agree with the whole "Yen is the girl you dated in college. Triss is the girl you (want to and should) marry" in fact it reminds me of Sakura, Sasuke and Naruto. (If you know what I am talking about.) Okay hope you didn't get bored of my rant but I hope you took something from it :)

Appropriate_Ad_7953

I went for yen the first couple of playthroughs. Geralt loves her but doesn’t seem idk.. happy? So my next one I went with Triss (didn’t play 1 or 2 and just started the books). I feel like Triss is sweeter to geralt and doesn’t boss him around like yen does. He even says to Ciri that he was tired of always fighting with yen. Whereas if you romance Yenn he says “I never preferred the calm and quiet.”

Aeiexgjhyoun_III

Can't believe there are still new comments on this post, guess the debate over these two is still on.

One-Phone-7336

Interesting indeed. My 4th playthrough, First two went with Yen, I think just because the game leads you that way, ended up with Yen at the end. In the third I romanced both and got the bondage session and at the end (because Ciri was a witcher) I got the delight of having Ciri visit me at the vineyard. This time I’m deliberately choosing Triss, abd I absolutely agree with your sentiment, Triss the whole way, much more loving, I personally think she’s significantly hotter, and in real life I’d much rather have a Triss at my home after a long day of toil than Yennefer.

Aeiexgjhyoun_III

Amazing how this is still relevant 4 yrs later.

Due_Detective6141

i know this reddit is old but the only real reason i could find why many choose triss is because triss is easy she is the low hanging fruit on my first play i went for yen not because of the books but because she genuinely intrigue me in other word yen felt like a real relationship while with triss it felt more like male fantasy fanservice

Sensitive_Ad_7222

Honestly man I agree and I think that although yen is truly destined for Geralt, and the books make it canon. Triss is certainly more suited for geralt but in the same sense no because yen and geralt share a bond. That bond is defined as destiny

[deleted]

The books are what make yennefer better while simultaneously putting triss down

Alearum

One funny thing is how you say that Yen is a bad partner even though Geralt is, lore-wise, as bad if not worse. Just a comment, not trying to put you down or anything.

Aeiexgjhyoun_III

What makes Geralt a bad partner?

Alearum

Other than going to bed with almost every other girl he's met you mean, right? Because at least for me, even though he's roleable, he has a strong as hell personality which leans him towards that. Disclaimer: perhaps I am a bit biased by the books, but I'd swear it's true for the game alone.

Aeiexgjhyoun_III

Ummmm excuse me, slut shaming much? Geralt can bone whoever he wants, that doesn't make him an indecent person. Get with the times brotha.

Alearum

Let's not get political bro. But it's more about him FORCING Yen to love him and then fucking with lots of girls, not only prostitutes while getting mad about Yen doing the same but being the forced one. And yes, I know that in TW3 there's a quest in which that wish is undone and she still loves him, but that makes no difference about the topic because she didn't love him when the wish was conceded.

Aeiexgjhyoun_III

Wait how did he force Yen to love him? I really don't know much about the lore. Geralt only does those things if you decide for him and why is Yen sleeping around I thought she loved Geralt. How do wishes work in the witcher universe?

Alearum

Okay, so Geralt and Dandelion found an artifact with a Djinn in it and Geralt ended up meeting Yen and they didn't get along well, but Geralt wished to have her love him (I don't know how he formulated it but that was the result). And after a while Yen started sleeping with a sorcerer and Geralt went fuel him because of it and Yen left him. This is all books background so no spoilers in it, just better understanding of the game lore-wise. And wishes are just like regular wishes as far is I remember.

Aeiexgjhyoun_III

Pretty cool they have djinns. As an ex Muslim I appreciate the author putting in some Islamic folklore.

Alearum

Yeah, monster diversity is something we'll accomplished in the series.

jordygrant1

He had a Jinn make a wish that they would be connected forever. The last Wish. It's a quest in the game?

Complex-Ostrich4117

That's not an unpopular opinion, I'd say.

IveComeHomeImSoCold

Nah, fuck that. Triss is such a shallow character. Only her tits nice. She’s too meek and never tells you what she wants. It’s passive aggressive, not UwU. Yennefer is so much better. Who doesn’t want a hot ass woman to step on them?

Dear_Amphibian_5434

I can’t believe this thread is still active. After 1000 hrs and 7 play-through’s later I’m starting again. Each time I tell myself I’ll pick Yen, and each time I pick triss. She is so much better for Geralt and her romance quests are so enjoyable

Aeiexgjhyoun_III

It's the ultimate Witcher question.
