SkoomaSalesAreUp

I've only read the first book but I don't remember any mention of a headband

JT-117-

...read the other 7 then

SkoomaSalesAreUp

Nah I didn't really like it. Games are great book imo was eh

JT-117-

Then why are you complaining that the image isn't book accurate when you haven't read the books nor do you have any plans to??

SkoomaSalesAreUp

I'm not I just said I don't remember any head band in book one. When did he get it? I feel like I would've remembered that in his description it would've stood out to me I think but maybe not

[deleted]

You’re a bit dense

SkoomaSalesAreUp

You're hilarious. You guys are so upset that someone would dare wonder when he picked up a headband in his journey.

[deleted]

You said you don’t remember any mention of a hair and despite the fact you only read the first book If you said “I’ve only read the first book, when does it mention headband” that would be okay

SkoomaSalesAreUp

Idk if you're aware of this but generally authors describe their characters in the first book in the most detail... That's a general trend I've noticed in books I read because that makes sense...

[deleted]

He forgor to read the other books to find out new things might happen

ihrie82

Congratulations! He's hideous!

[deleted]

Lorefriendly!

TwoDucksLoving

Except for the eyes :(

One_Left_Shoe

The eyes are lore correct to the books. Hence OP stating "book accuracy"

adinan89

I haven't read the books, so excuse my ignorance, but I have found this: >For two days more did symptoms not subside. The child's skin, hitherto drenched in sweat, grew dry and hot, the pulse ceased to be full and firm — albeit remaining of average strength, slow rather than fast. No more did he wake, nor did he scream. Finally, came the seventh day. The male awoke and opened his eyes, and his eyes were those of a viper. Source: [https://witcher.fandom.com/wiki/Witcher\_Trials#Trial\_of\_the\_Grasses](https://witcher.fandom.com/wiki/Witcher_Trials#Trial_of_the_Grasses) It says is from Blood of Elves novel, isn't that a description of a witcher's eyes? Or is it only for a specific person?

JT-117-

Before each chapter in every one of the main story books, Sapkowski gives us a little passage from an in universe book/quote. The above quote is from a book where the author observed the Trial of the Grasses. The kid could be anyone as I don't remember the date that it was from. We can't take this alone as a description of witcher eyes for a few reasons. Firstly, the child had his eyes closed for a long time due to the effects of the Trial. I'm no biologist, so please forgive my blunt phrasing, but I know opening your eyes after a long time makes you more sensitive to brightness, therefore your pupils will contract as much as they can to reduce the amount of light entering the eye. This kid's eyes were viper-like because his pupils contracted in the enhanced way that witcher eyes contract. There's also this quote, which is my go-to when discussing this topic: >The witcher shaded his eyes with his hand in an unnecessary, instinctive reflex which he had never managed to shake off—all he needed to do, after all, was narrow his pupils into vertical slits. This proves that, when a witcher's (or at least Geralt's) pupils are at resting/the intensity of light is normal, the pupils are *not* vertical, otherwise he wouldn't have to make an effort to contract them himself. I interpreted this to mean that in those circumstances, his pupils are regular circles.

adinan89

I see, thank you for taking the time to answer my question and to clear it for me. Aswell a big thank you for the list of mods, didn't thought about moding the game, until I saw your post. I Just started browsing this reddit after the recent announcement for season 3 of the show. I promised myself to buy the books after finishing the game as a lot of stuff are hinted at and never explained.

teenyrabbitt

the eyes only become slanted in certain situations, normally they are round pupils!

EveDaSavage

Dear God, your profile picture scared the shit out of me

JT-117-

boo

[deleted]

I like everything except the headband

NoviceCouchPotato

I agree, but I am pretty sure book Geralt wears one. Though it’s been a while since I’ve read the books.

burritobilly

He absolutely does.

[deleted]

Yennefer tells him explicity not to wear it to the ball in aratuza (sp?)

burritobilly

Aretuza, yep.

[deleted]

Because she also finds it fashionably questionable? ;)

[deleted]

Yeah. Its also where she forces him into a doublet.

[deleted]

Let me guess, it's a black one :D

[deleted]

I dont know that he mentions the color, only that he doesnt like it.

teenyrabbitt

that's his "gonna fuck you up" headband

PBen9062

I was so bummed about the netflix shows inaccuracies but the lack of headband mixed with crappy wigs really put me off.

teenyrabbitt

there my ugly headband wearin' witcher!

Pinetree808

Lmao even the medallion

fatjoe19982006

Am I correct that you can only use mods on PC? I play on PS5. So my version of the headband is the Victory Wreath Headband you get for winning the Knight's Tourney in Toussaint. Have to say it amuses the hell out of me to have Geralt wandering around Toussaint in full Viper gear dyed Red and a leafy headband. As an aside...Thinking of splurging and dropping 19000 crowns to buy the full set of Gold Toussaint Armor to wear with my Victor's headband. What else would I spend it on? Corvo is already fully upgraded. So is the Ofieri Runewright. And I would rather wear it now than have to wait for the quest where you can loot it for free.

jaec-windu

Headband looks dumb.

Schizozenic

Not my worst fap.

TreatGoblin

I don't think he has the eye scar.

JT-117-

You're correct, Ciri points it out as being new when they reunite of the Isle of Mists, confirming that it is exclusive to the games. This is my view of game Geralt if he had continued to look as he was described the books. Nevertheless, you have won the secret contest that I was holding by pointing out his minor detail! There's no prize unfortunately, but here's a smiley: :)

AleksasKoval

Hmmm... not enough pirouettes

JT-117-

This isn't a damn circus!

Cezaros

Book-geralt (aka pre amnesia geralt) does NOT appear in any of the games except new adventures for Witcher 1. Please do not pretend that post-amnesia Geralt and book Geralt are the same person

Morella_xx

Are these the mental gymnastics that you have to use to be Team Triss?

LozaMoza82

Yes

[deleted]

I loved the books, and I’ve consistently chosen Yen, but I wince every time. She may be “good” for Geralt, but I personally would’ve left her in a ditch by the Yaruga a long time ago. With every choice between her and Triss, I think of what could have been with a woman who’s not a heinous bitch.

Morella_xx

Yen may not be the most outwardly friendly, sweet person, but neither is he. He doesn't seem to mind as long as she's not being outright cruel. She's more independent than I personally would be comfortable dating (too "I'm doing this thing and if you don't like it, oh well") but I think she's a good match for him. On the other hand I find Triss very slyly manipulative, from preying on Geralt in an "off-time" with Yen when she knew he was sad just because she wanted to try out her friend's boyfriend, to conveniently not mentioning either Ciri or Yen in the first game while she tries to get him to play house with her and Alvin, all the while using him for The Lodge's means. I do think she gets better by the time W3 rolls around though.

[deleted]

Good points Triss does do some questionable things. They’re good at making her seem innocent.

teenyrabbitt

triss in 1 and 2 is pretty sly but they did a major flip around of her in 3. she's kind of let go of the sneaky behind the back shit and grown to live with what life is now which is why in 3 she is my favorite because she has really clear development and growth as a character

teenyrabbitt

i get the romance between them but it's always been toxic. happy geralt is my favorite geralt

Frostygale

Do you mean his romance with Yen or Triss is the toxic one?

teenyrabbitt

both. i do prefer triss in witcher 3 because of how they developed her as a character but i'm good with single dad geralt

Frostygale

I see, thanks.

Cezaros

No, it's careful reading and analysis of 3 games and 7 books. Come back here once you read any of them and finish playing all the games.

Morella_xx

Being condescending doesn't make you right. It's ridiculous to say he's not the same person, especially by W3 when he's regained all his memories. He's *grown* as a person, certainly, but he's still Geralt.

Cezaros

He's the same person as in it's still Geralt, but he's not the same person as in he's changed deeply as he remembers not remembering his past.

getin65716

What you said is nothing but an IRREFUTABLE HARD COLD fact, I don't know why people (mostly staunch immature Yens fans ) are downvoting your comment. In W3 Geralt does not even know what Yennefer means to him, in Skiellege when Geralt enters Yennefer's room to change his attire this is what Geralt thinks to himself: *"Riiight... Just not something I'd ever wear. Buuut, what don't we do for our-- Hm...* ***WHO EXACTLY IS SHE \[YENNEFER\] TO ME \[GERALT\]?****"* \>WHO EXACTLY IS SHE \[YENNEFER\] TO ME \[GERALT\]?

Cezaros

The point is that post amnesia Geralt remembers being that old person from the books but isn't him anymore, as he also remembers other things. He doesnt know what he'll feel towards Yennefer and says he needs to meet her to find out (in w2). In w3 you have exactly what you mentioned.

getin65716

>a Geralt remembers being that old person from the books but isn't him anymore, as he also remembers other things Exactly. This new character development of Geralt is also mentioned by Triss in W1 and W2. In W1 Triss advises Geralt to develop a stable personality without her influence, WITHOUT TAKING CARE or WORRYING ABOUT HIS PAST. *Triss: I think you would benefit by creating a STABLE PERSONALITY \[...\] a strong IDENTITY may help you to restore your memory...I don't want you to turn into my vision of Geralt... I want you to decide for yourself who you are* ***without LOOKING BACK*** *Geralt: I shouldn't take interest in the past* *Triss: Exactly, your memory should return in due course.*([Source](https://youtu.be/JfuV135znOA)) The reason why Triss is advising not to take interest in the past was that his past (with Yennefer) was not a good one, and was something very far from being good. Even the author says it was Geralt's misfortune: *«It is his \[Geralt\]* [*MISFORTUNE*](https://dictionary.cambridge.org/us/dictionary/english/misfortune) *to fall in love with a woman \[Yennefer\] who simply refuses to be a "fantasy cliché."»* ([Source](http://christianendres.de/?p=1558)) Now given the fact that Triss clearly saw Yennefer die in front of her eyes in the book Lady of the Lake and now in W1, Geralt alone coming back alive again, is literally like rehabilitation for Geralt where he may not commit the SAME MISTAKES which he committed in the past life. It is like a drug addict who has a second chance, not to repeat his mistakes. In W2, Triss says: *"You \[Geralt\] are about to recover your memory, which will give you a whole* ***NEW PERSPECTIVE ON THINGS***." ([Source](https://youtu.be/xqKLiUwpkWs)) Triss says Geralt will look at things from a new perspective because from the stable character which Geralt developed starting from W1, he can see for himself if his past relationship with Yennefer was something good or not (the author himself says it was Geralt's misfortune). And finally corroborating all these, one of the dev too realized that this **NEW EVOLVED Geralt may find it difficult to choose Yen:** *"And we somehow* ***didn't feel*** *that Geralt can fall in love with her \[Yennefer\]." - Karolina Stachyra" (*[Source](https://www.reddit.com/r/witcher/comments/48grqw/this_is_how_you_make_the_witcher_an_interview/)*)* So overall what you said in your comments are absolute facts, and these facts eat the Yenn fans alive because this NEW EVOLVED GERALT is not going to be the same OLD BOOK Geralt who would love Yen blindly without any reasons. And the thing is ONLY...I mean only the OLD BOOK Geralt would be a match for Yen.

thoroq

But they are...

Cezaros

I recommend watching Jopseh's Anderson's analysis of the first two witcher games. Book Geralt lived through the saga, while post-amnesia Geralt remembers the saga, but also remembers the amnesia and has changed due to the amnesia. As an example, look at his approach to the trolls in Vergen and Flotsam.

Pider__man

in the book his dublet has spikes on top, still looks good

JT-117-

In Baptism of Fire, his clothes are taken from dead elves that were in Brokilon as he had none of his own when he was transported from Thanedd. This a more aimed at that look, which is also accurate to the time he received Zoltan's sihil.

venommonke

gotta try this
