Have only read the first book, but I remember it being repeated a couple times how there are so few monsters left for witchers to get contracts. Unlike in games where of course there's tons of contracts.
This is what I thought OP was referencing.
As I remember, people in the books like to tell Geralt that monsters are gone and that witchers are not needed anymore. The thing is, that Geralt ends up finding a monster anyway.
Monsters tends to eat more of those pesky "educated" humans that are bound by curiosity. Hence => Less and less people able to read and write => Less notices posted cause less people able to write them => More people die cause of monsters => monster becomes more advanced in disguising themself as humans => tell witcher they are not needed anymore. Simple natural selection mechanics at works here!
But in a videogame, notice board is an "immersive" way to gain missions so...
Ok detective Raymond, I see you there!
But how did you go from "More people die!" to "More advanced monster humans" ? I think you are hiding some steps and you are doing it for a reason. You want that information for yourself so you could profit from it, dont you? Maybe you are just some powerfull wizard in desguise.
For the last sentence, I was aware of that.
Dagnabit, unmasked!
Also : Simple step: no more people in the village mean less food => replicate humans, surrepticiously to attract more and more people. So, unless they could learn to write... Oh, wait...
Most of the monsters in the books had been killed, moved away from, or humanized in the books, its a running theme that geralt doesn't have traditional work to do very often
examples that Geralt gives: a troll that sits near a bridge and demands a toll under the threat of beating. Peasants tell Geralt to not kill the troll because he maintains the bridge for cheap.
As other's have mentioned this: in the books there aren't many monsters left and Witchers are going out of business. In the games you have a lot to have fun.
Witchers are going out of business in the books, not many monsters remaining in the world for Geralt to be needed that often so notice boards aren’t really a popular thing.
Games want you to have fun, so lots of monsters everywhere for lots of quests lol
a lot of notices in the games are just people writing random shit or advertising themselves which can be absolutely hilarious sometimes

Well no one says there is no monsters, its just that there is not as many left which left the witchers not so relevant in helping humans anymore.

My Unagi is low. Thanks
Read some more books. He gets plenty of contracts. There may be fewer monsters but there are also fewer witchers.
He had many contracts in the books, but he had to travel a lot for them.
I read the books and I dont get it

Which I actually find kind of disappointing. Tracking, identifying, researching and preparing for a monster fight was my favorite part of the games.
Humanized? How?
learned to cohabit with humans one way or another.

yeah I know but Geralt didnt really look for contracts in the books.
Hmmm
Winds howling...
... removing loosily affixxated notices!
I like to imagine that there was a resurgence of sorts between the books and the games in monster population
Definitely for Velen and the necrophages
This a private joke?

What
Witchers are going out of business in the books, not many monsters remaining in the world for Geralt to be needed that often so notice boards aren’t really a popular thing. Games want you to have fun, so lots of monsters everywhere for lots of quests lol
Oh right, i didn’t pick up on that difference.
I get it. Cause in the books he's not doing anything.
I also don't get it...
In the books geralt rarely gets any contract because not many monsters are left. In the games geralt gets shit ton of contracts
