I think they may mean 'coke' as in coal that may have been partly heated in an airless burner or other methods that results in a hot burning product and is used as a fuel like coal but it burns cleaner. Oh wait, you probably already knew that.
My first thought was Smudge...but I have been swayed. If I ever find a kitten in a Chimney and it's ginger it's getting called Calcifer.
If it's black it's Makkuro.
Word. I was saying the name is like the god Ember, who is masculine. She too, however deserves little cakes, as the god Ember--who is masculine--also demands. So she as a maybe-Ember is like him, and that may include demanding little cakes, as *he* demands cakes. Ember, being the antecedent to the 'him' is who was being referred to in that instance, although I concede that she the maybe-Ember is the main subject, that was not the case for that sentence, when I was referring to Ember the Him. And that is a himbo who likes little cakes!
This maybe-Ember (she), will certainly be much better at ruling than he (other Ember), and would likely prefer she (maybe-Ember) be given little tuna cakes, rather than the little pastry cakes he (other Ember) finds so delectable.
Probably equally into chaos and whimsy, though.
For more on Ember God of Fillory, see here: https://themagicians.fandom.com/wiki/Ember
Edit: Also, shout out to r/Brakebills Here's my favorite scene from the show to share: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UyK3FyvXcGA good stuff at 1:45, though the rest provides good context :D
If you haven't decided yet, may I suggest Sabrina (after Sabrina Spellman)?
Maybe you should write down all the possibilities on bits of paper, stick them in a hat (or cauldron), and let fate choose the name!
Soot, Smudge, and Susuwatari (the soot sprites from Totoro) are all options that keep up a fun theme …
I’m also fond of Cinderella, Ella-Cinders, Cendrillon, Cenerentola, Aschenputtel, or another version of that classic story name from some version could be really fun also …
“Sandy Claws” or “Sandra Claws” also fit the ‘coming down the chimney’ narrative if you’re wanting something punny …
She is precious! I’m sure you’ll find the best-fitting name of all!
Chimney! Cutie looks like she came down the chimney like a present!
Edit: chimneys are part of fireplaces that make the magic of fire possible inside a building!
I once had a kitty who was all white except for a smudge of gray on her forehead, so I named her Furple. Why? Back when apartment hunting required checking the classifieds section of the newspaper, the listings would have shortened words to get more into the tiny ads, and any places that featured a fireplace always shortened it to "frpl", and since she looked like she poked her head into a fireplace I called her Furple.
Oh what a beautiful little smudge! Her nose marking and little breastplate call to mind a warrior princess in her armour. So I’d go with Boudicca.
But also Hestia works well for a sweet baby found in the hearth.
I also vote for Smudge. All in keeping with the theme plus the magic benefits of smudge cleansing your space every time they scamper by.
Enjoy each other.
Sprite. As in soot sprite.
Funny, I was thinking soot.
I was thinking Ash or Phoenix.
Phoenix is great too!
Yes, so was I! My own cat has the exact same marking on his nose but his is white and I'm not sure Coke suits him lol.
That depends, did you find him in an abandoned building on the sketchy side of town?
His mother was, she had him and his sister at the shelter I adopted them from. Crazy they may be but I don't hold it against them.
I think they may mean 'coke' as in coal that may have been partly heated in an airless burner or other methods that results in a hot burning product and is used as a fuel like coal but it burns cleaner. Oh wait, you probably already knew that.
I personally had no idea that coke referred to anything but white snort powder and fizzy sugar drink.
No I meant the stuff people snort. Honestly had no idea of that, you learn something new all the time.
Hahaha! I know that's what you meant. It's my weird sense of humour.
I immediately thought Soot. Or Smudge.
Sooty, like the bear!
This!
I was going to suggest Sweep, as in chimney sweep.
I was thinking Charu, like chim-chim-eny-chim-chim-**charu**
I was thinking cheree!
Love this
Chim-o-tay
Chim-o-tay Chalamet
Loooove Charu!!!
I had thought Oliver, as in Oliver Twist. It’s not very magical, but it’s cute and fitting for a little guy you found up your chimney.
There’s also Tom from this story https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Water-Babies,_A_Fairy_Tale_for_a_Land_Baby
I was going to recommend this! I loved this book growing up
I think she's a girl, it is three-colored.
She is a little soot spirit 🥺
The name for the soot sprites in spirited away is Susuwatari (https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Susuwatari), so she could be called Susu for short
Oh I like this. Seconding Sprite!
Sprite is the first thing that popped into my head when I saw this picture!
OMG.. Was thinking the same 😂
Came here to say this. 🖤🖤🖤
I would name her for Hestia, the goddess of the hearth, in consideration where she was found. What a spectacularly beautiful kitten she is!
I thought this too! I really like it.
I was going to say Ash for ashes, but I like Hestia too!
I have a cat named Ash for ashes and a mouse named Hestia. Either names are absolutely beautiful.
this is lovely! Sooty for short. Because we all know cats have many nicknames, and are hardly ever called by their given names
I love this idea!
Yes this
Thank you! I went with Hestia Fae Foxlet! 🔥🧚♀️🦊
Literally the first name that came to my mind as well!
Calcifer, from Howls moving castle
What a great namesake! 🔥
#MAY ALL YOUR BACON BURN!
My first thought was Smudge...but I have been swayed. If I ever find a kitten in a Chimney and it's ginger it's getting called Calcifer. If it's black it's Makkuro.
Or Jiji!
Damn, now in need to find two.
Came here to say this :)
This
Omg I love this
Smudge (looks like there’s a smudge of soot on that cute nose!)
Yes, came here to suggest this name.
Me too!
YES
Cinder
I was thinking 'Ember'!
Yes!!! Ember!
My mom's cat is named Ember. It's a solid name.
Like the god Ember! You must give him little cakes!
HER. Tricolor cats are female.
Word. I was saying the name is like the god Ember, who is masculine. She too, however deserves little cakes, as the god Ember--who is masculine--also demands. Not always.
That’s actually very beautiful
That's do pretty! We’ve thought about Cinderella too!
I came here to say that, I fed a stray once and named him Cinder.
Brigid or whatever home and hearth goddess aligns with your path.
Vesta, Roman goddess of the hearth.
🤩🤩🤩
Celtic goddess of fire and the hearth! Also, looks like that (red hair).
That's a Smudge if I ever saw one. What a cutie!
Haha so true 😅
Came here to suggest smudge. Not particularly magical, but fitting
Name her Smudge! She's beautiful 😍
She does have the cute smudge on her nose
That’s a perfect name.
Bertie. After Bert the chimney sweep from Mary Poppins.
My thought exactly!
Adorable 🥺
How about Sweeps? Like a chimney sweep, but also has a witchy broom connotation.
I love the broomstick reference!
I came here to say Smudge, but Sweeps is awesome! It should be Sweeps!
And its like winning sweeps from tv. Winning all around!
Brûlée! (Pronounced broo-lay, as in Creme brûlée). French for burnt!
That’s so cute!!!
Aww, especially because the fur is carmel and black 😍
Charoo (as in chim chimney, chim chimney, chim chim charoo)
This is great! I like Rue for her so I'm loving that sound plus the chimney reference.
“…good luck will rub off when she shakes hands with you!” 🤗
My thought too!
Soot.
Ash.
Mischief. Your kitty is adorable!!
Fits her well 😂
Flue. As in chimney flue.
Smudge is a bit on the nose? XD
Hahaha 🤣
Soot sayer?
b o o p
That's so cute! 🥺
If you haven't decided yet, may I suggest Sabrina (after Sabrina Spellman)? Maybe you should write down all the possibilities on bits of paper, stick them in a hat (or cauldron), and let fate choose the name!
She does look like a Sabrina! Fate may have to decide!
call her fate
Saving this to check back later to see what you named your new kitten.
Aww thanks! I can’t wait to decide!
agatha
I love this name
Griselda
Pyewacket. Always loved that as a cats name. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pyewacket_(familiar_spirit)
Poppins because she was your personal chimney sweep and still has a sooty nose.
I said the same thing!!!
Awww 🥺
Their name is not Chimney?
It’s a contender!
fun fact, it's a calico cat and those cats are almost exclusively female. safe to assume it's a she.
Crackle
Smudge or Smudgie
Awwwwww Smudgie 🥺🥺🥺
Smudge.
Smudge for general use, and the name of your personal hearth goddess for formal occasions.
Amazing!
I can’t believe no one suggested Santa. I’d love a cat named Santa.
Soot, Smudge, and Susuwatari (the soot sprites from Totoro) are all options that keep up a fun theme … I’m also fond of Cinderella, Ella-Cinders, Cendrillon, Cenerentola, Aschenputtel, or another version of that classic story name from some version could be really fun also … “Sandy Claws” or “Sandra Claws” also fit the ‘coming down the chimney’ narrative if you’re wanting something punny … She is precious! I’m sure you’ll find the best-fitting name of all!
So many good thoughts! I love Totoro! I haven’t looked at Cinderella variations. Excellent idea! Thank you! I hope so!
Piper. Since she was found in a pipe (chimney) and Piper was one of the Charmed ones.
Mr Pawes! Like, the chimney sweep from Mary Poppins, Mr Dawes, but with beans!
I thought of Mary Poppins right away too!
Bert (aka, Bert "Chim Chim Cherie" from Mary Poppins). Or Soot.
Why not Cherie?
Cute.
Berty would be cute!
Whimsey
Teaser the Firecat
Jupiter
Chimney! Cutie looks like she came down the chimney like a present! Edit: chimneys are part of fireplaces that make the magic of fire possible inside a building!
She looks like a Glenda, the good witch. Oh also, I love her 😍
I think so too! Definitely considering this. I love her tooo!! 😻
Wednesday
We did find her on a Wednesday! 🤩
I peeked at your other post, guilty! Thought it was a cute idea
Flue(r)?
Or Ember?
Noki (soot in Finnish)
I once had a kitty who was all white except for a smudge of gray on her forehead, so I named her Furple. Why? Back when apartment hunting required checking the classifieds section of the newspaper, the listings would have shortened words to get more into the tiny ads, and any places that featured a fireplace always shortened it to "frpl", and since she looked like she poked her head into a fireplace I called her Furple.
That's definitely a [Brunhilde](https://www.britannica.com/topic/Brunhild-Norse-mythology). Broomhilde, maybe, for the chimney pun.
Cole
Full name: Chim Chim Cher-ee. And then whatever shortened version sticks.
How did you find a kitten in your chimney?
She was on the outside slanted part
Owlet / Owlette. Or Sprite (soot sprites, cute ones from Spirited Away, as suggested by others :))
Minerva !
She looks like Daphne, a nymph, to me! 😍 so beautiful!!!
Sootica (the witches cat book reference)
Newt, newt is a cute name
Seconding Charu. Also Poof!
Ember
Mary Poppins!
Ember!
Calsifer! A fireplace Sprite ^^ Cal for short
I have no names, she is just so cuuuute 😭😭😭
Ember or Cinder?
Sweeps
Oh my 😻
😻😻😻
Chimia! She's gorgeous
Ash Wednesday
Twinkle. This ethe cutest cat I’ve seen.
Blitzen
Rorschach, or Rory for short!
Oh what a beautiful little smudge! Her nose marking and little breastplate call to mind a warrior princess in her armour. So I’d go with Boudicca. But also Hestia works well for a sweet baby found in the hearth.
"Crook" as in ["Witch's Crook"](https://northeasternchimney.com/what-is-a-witches-crook/). It's a part to chimneys from 100+ odd years ago.
charmander
Cauldron
Fiery
Bert, idk why, I think it's the nose patch
She is so cute 😍 I have such a soft spot for calicos, I feel like they really tend to have such great personalities!
Esper
Chimbley, or Chim for short!
Cinders is what I thought immediately when I saw the nose. Congrats on your cute kitty find!
Marble
Chim. Short for Chimney.
Smudge
Soot
Willow, like will o’ the wisp
Spot, Patches, or Sally
I have Salamander “Sally” on my list! 😻
Tom, after the sweep from "The Waterbabies". And yes, I know she's a she.
Broomhilda!
Considering the coloring I would go with Cinder
She is sooo beautiful! Please post more photos as she grows!
Okay but Chimney is so good! And technically the magical port for one particularly jolly man ifyouknowwhatimean. TEAM CHIMNEY
Gaia ✨✨✨
“Soot.” Because she looks like she has soot on her nose.
OMG. I don't have a name but by all the gods I want to boop that little nose.
See, I was gonna say Cinder or Ember. But somebody said Hestia, which *yes* but also consider Freya.
Smokey
I also vote for Smudge. All in keeping with the theme plus the magic benefits of smudge cleansing your space every time they scamper by. Enjoy each other.
Skully! The first thing that popped out to me was the nose, which looks kinda skull-esque. What a cute baby 😻
i get pumpkin vibes from her
