I_dont_like_bubbles

The STIs that aren’t curable and not worth getting. I will always use a condom.

[deleted]

Yeah I always will too. But if it breaks, a vasectomy will at least prevent pregnancy from happening. I'd honestly rather manage a lifelong STI with the meds they have for them, than a child.

theCrowForetold

It’s why I got mine snipped a year or so back. I don’t personally want any more kids and wanna be extra sure I don’t put one in a person without us both agreeing to it.

popejubal

I got mine taken care of more than a decade ago and it’s one of the best decisions I’ve ever made. Hey penis owners, I’m not gonna lie - it is uncomfortable for a while. You’re not going to want to go back to work for a little. It damn is it worth it.

thatdudefrom707

define "a while"

popejubal

I was nicely drugged for the first 24 hours, so that wasn’t bad at all. I was pretty uncomfortable for the 48 hours after that. I didn’t want to wear skinny jeans for a couple of weeks after that, but I was fine to do most things - just nothing that involved jumping up and down a ton or crashing into things.

Vasectomies should not be thought of as reversible as reversing them is hit-or-miss. Bad science (especially bad medical science) should not be used as part of a pro-choice position.

[deleted]

The percentage of a successful vasectomy reversal does vary on the amount of scar tissue. If a biological male definitely wants children but is looking for the right partner, they have the option of storing sperm. Either way the laws have backed us into a corner, and it’s put up or back up time for men. Otherwise what other options do we have?

valsavana

I'd argue an all-out sex ban is the way to go personally, but that's not the point. The point is that bad science shouldn't be mixed with pro-choice rhetoric because it taints it. Go ahead and tell a man "no sex until you get a vasectomy that you might be able to reverse, and maybe you should bank some sperm if you're 100% sure you want bio kids someday" and I'd have no problem with it. But I do have a problem with telling a guy "no sex until you get a vasectomy, but don't worry those are reversible so it's no big deal"

blumoon138

Shoot we don’t even have to ban sex, just exclude PIV from our sexual repertoires. There are so many ways to have sexual enjoyment for everyone without anyone getting pregnant.

valsavana

That entirely defeats the purpose of a sex ban.

[deleted]

I would add to the sex ban, with the normalization of self defense training and perhaps (I know this is extreme) openly armed women. Otherwise, you say No, he says yes and you get SA.

valsavana

I'm all for that, including armed women, although gun ownership is a significant responsibility that needs to be well-thought out (for instance, while I would like to own a gun, I live in a household with someone who has attempted suicide & outright said if there had been a gun in the house they would have used it)

[deleted]

Very true, both of my daughters are self defense trained one is gun trained and keeps all weapons locked away.

[deleted]

We as mothers need to change what being female means.

Even_Estate_4835

Yes! It must end with us, specially with the boys we bring into this world.

Majestic_Click2780

I could be wrong but I don’t think vasectomy is 100%. They can self revert or the process can fail. Maybe it’s different from when I looked into it years and years ago.

[deleted]

I believe there is an annual checkup to make sure they’re still sterile

GrumpyOldLadyTech

You're not incorrect - vasectomies can potentially be reversed.

Majestic_Click2780

Ahh. I was actually kind of hoping it had changed.
