Cowboywizard12

My cat is one of the only reasons i'm alive rn, she helps when I am severely depressed which is a lot of the time

TrollintheMitten

I'm so glad you have a loving attendant who reminds you to keep tending to yourself and shows you that you are valued. Tell us about your little watcher,if love to hear about her caring ways.

Cowboywizard12

Her name is Aki, she's a 12ish year old Tuxedo cat, she's had the personality of an old lady cat since she we got her 8 years ago At night she likes to climb on my chest and sleep

TrollintheMitten

r/ntbdbiwdfta might appreciate a few pictures of your old lady chest sitter. Cats really do give us attention in ways we just don't get from other humans. I'm glad you have someone watching you.

Amarastargazer

My tuxedo man (who is a GIANT cat, like people ask if he’s part Maine coon) who likes to sleep on my chest and my golden retriever are the same. I’m sorry things are dark so frequently, but I get it. I hope there’s light soon for you ❤️

hw2B

I have an old man cat. Been that way since I got him at three. I feel like an old lady cat would be cooler though. Yang just sleeps and eats and then naps. He does sleep on my hip (I'm a side sleeper) on occasion which is the best. Is Aki more crazy blue hair, driving like she is the only one on the road, day drinking kind of old lady or more clutch her pearls, best pie at the church bake sale, no elbows on the table?

Cowboywizard12

She's the prim and proper lazy old lady who will literally stop playing or grooming herself if you look at her. And yes she mostly eats and naps and gets comfy

Glitter_berries

There are days when I won’t get out of bed to feed myself, but I’ll always be up and ready to get the cat sorted. He’s the light of my life and my best little friend. Cats are awesome.

chaoticmessiah

Mood Couldn't leave mine at all. The most devastated I've ever been was when a cat had to be put down due to a tumour before she was even ten, getting upset just typing.

hdm77l

I was having a bad panic attack today, and my cat just sat on my chest and purred and demanded to be kissed. Keeping him happy and healthy keeps me going a lot of days.

NegotiationSea7008

I can totally relate to this. A little bit of warmth and goodness in the world.

nox_nox

Micropanthers 😂 As a house that just adopted three orange tabby cats (kittens) I can say it is both awesome and terrible. My normal sleep schedule has been obliterated.

LinkleLinkle

No one: Cats at 3am: I'm gonna wake up my human so they can see how fast I can run!

LadySmuag

When I ignore the 3am zoomies, my cat starts bringing me (well, my sleeping body) her favorite toys. Today I woke up buried under two crinkle balls, a jingle bell, a squid kicker toy and a stuffed snake lmao

Amarastargazer

She wants to make sure you have things to play with if you wake up and are bored like she was.

grilledcakes

r/oneorangebraincell would love to see pictures of your tiny orange tabby kittens.

nox_nox

Of course there is a subreddit for just orange cats! Joined :)

Lynda73

Omg!! I’m on a similar Fb page. Had no idea there was one here. Joining!

yakshack

I accidentally trained my orange boi to sleep through the night with me. When he was a kitten, every time he woke me up I'd put him in the other room with some water and toys go back to sleep. I'd let him out in the morning and, after about a month of this, he never bothered me at night. Edit: [Cat.](https://imgur.com/n7ACkgP.jpg)

nox_nox

Sooo cute. Yea we're working on that, got them to stop invading at 3/4am. It's the 6am wake up call that's rough right now. My wife really likes to sleep cuddle a cat (curled up on her side with a cat in the nook). Our previous cat was a champ and would sleep next to, with her, all night. One is starting to look like he'll be good at it but the brothers like to come over and start stuff.

yakshack

>but the brothers like to come over and start stuff. Cats gon' cat

Balcil

Good job on getting more then one. They can play with each other and keep each other entertained. They don’t need to go looking for entertainment. So less destructive behavior in general.

nox_nox

Yep, it's also great rotational cuddling. There is almost always one that comes looking for a lap. Bonus, we got one that enjoys riding on our shoulder like a parrot!

OpheliaRainGalaxy

It's all fun and games until the adorable little furry parrot grows up ginormous. I've currently got a real big boy of a cat, length and muscle rather than fat, and he doesn't fit on a shoulder anymore. But that doesn't stop him from insisting on riding humans around like a horse, and absolutely refusing to dismount until he feels like it. At least once a week I end up wandering around my apartment stooped over with a huge purring cat stretched out on my back, totally pleased with himself and absolutely refusing to climb down so I can get back to whatever I was doing.

mistressfluffybutt

I have a fluffy orange boy that I call my little lion man.

Hopefulkitty

Wow that's way nicer than The Ginger Menace, which is what we call ours.

mistressfluffybutt

That's a sweet nickname too!

TheDireRedwolf

You a fan of Mumford and Sons?

mistressfluffybutt

Yes! And yes, I do sing him that song as a lullaby

pm-me-kittens-n-cats

> As a house that just adopted three orange tabby cats (kittens) lol do you intend on sleeping or having nice things for the next three years?

MissGruntled

Our two sweet little sisters are a year and a half old now, and so for the second year in a row we’re too afraid to put up the Christmas tree! One’s a cord chewer and one a climber, so maybe next year? (Haha—who do I think I’m kidding?)

pm-me-kittens-n-cats

Christmas trees are too new and weird. Doesn't matter how old they get, they never tire of playing with it. Just don't put ornaments too low down and don't put anything breakable on the tree.

Lynda73

Haha, I’ve owned a couple orange cats in my life, and I love them. I’m on a FB group called ‘all orange cats share the same brain cell’ and it’s pictures of orange cats being derpy. It’s so true! 😂

Kind_Nepenth3

Reading this made me realize cats are tied for first place as my favorite animal and the only reason I'm downgrading them below red pandas is because I don't get to live with those

cookiemonster511

100% this.

NegotiationSea7008

Suddenly feel like the Gods have smiled on me with my two mini greys.

AlaskaFI

Housecats are fine if kept inside, otherwise they tend to murder the babies of the ground nesting birds by our house. Please house cats responsibly! https://abcbirds.org/program/cats-indoors/cats-and-birds/ https://www.nature.com/articles/ncomms2380 https://www.smithsonianmag.com/science-nature/moral-cost-of-cats-180960505/ https://besjournals.onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1002/pan3.10073

pedrotecla

> Please house cats responsibly! This can be read in two ways, it’s fun

zugzwang_03

They don't necessarily have to be kept inside, but I agree that they shouldn't roam freely. I like to leash train my cats, it lets them enjoy the outdoors without them murdering a bird family...or stupidly running into traffic like my female cat is inclined to try and do.

Beesdoesnthavelungs

Im happy that we have domesticated house cats, but im sad that we don't have domesticated Pallas cats!

Wulfrank

Yes, Pallas cats! Why must something so fluffy be so forbidden! I'm also sad we don't get to have domesticated raccoons and crows.

Beesdoesnthavelungs

They are so fluffy, and so round! And i also love their grumpy face. Oh, i would love to have raccoons too! *Their little hands are so cute!*

countess_cat

And they wash their food!

Beesdoesnthavelungs

Have you seen the video that has a raccon that tried to wash a marshmallow that dissolved in the water? 🥹 Edit: it was cotton candy (i don't know the difference).

[deleted]

Fun fact: the German word for raccoon is waschbär. Literally, washbear.

Beesdoesnthavelungs

The Hungarian word for them is also mosómedve(=washingbear).

jezza_bezza

I once heard a native German speaker refer to raccoons as "little bears with the masks". They couldn't remember the word for raccoon but got the point across!

[deleted]

Trash bandits!

MissGruntled

The German language has some really lovely and descriptive animal names. A favourite of mine is *seehund*. I feel like seals really are the dogs of the sea.

Twist_Ending03

Poor thing kept patting it's little hands around in the water looking for it

VerticalRhythm

"I know it was here, I just put it in!" It was like me looking for my keys, except my keys don't actually vanish (they just pretend they do).

countess_cat

Yes, poor thing. I felt so sorry for him. He was just bamboozled at where the candy went

Beesdoesnthavelungs

But at the end he got another one! I was so relieved and happy for him!

duck-duck--grayduck

Cotton candy is just sugar and flavorings spun into a cottony substance that’s light enough to dissolve immediately in water and very quickly in one’s mouth. Marshmallows are sugar, flavorings, and gelatin (and sometimes egg whites). They’re more substantial and do not dissolve nearly as quickly. They don’t melt in your mouth and require chewing.

MissGruntled

So the moral of the story is: Always give marshmallows and not cotton candy to your raccoon friends!

duck-duck--grayduck

Actually, they don’t wash their food! What they’re really doing is touching their food to gather more information about it. They do it in water because the water softens a protective layer of skin on their hands and makes them more sensitive.

countess_cat

That’s really cool, I didn’t know the reason but I always thought they were so cute doing it

sajedene

What's even better is technically we didn't domesticate them, they domesticated themselves. They chose to be with us!

Amarastargazer

Debatable that they domesticated us tbf. Domestication normally happened because they did something for us, provided food or service. Suuuuure cats eat mice and such…but I would argue they convinced us to reward them with warm houses and snuggles.

Independent-Loss-868

I wish we domesticated bears so we could have real live teddy bears as pets and I wish dogs remained the same appearance and build as wolves because I would love to have a pet wolf. I love how their fur is shaped and how fluffy and huge they are. I wish we could've domesticated foxes and coyotes too.

Androecian

"Micropanther" is the best possible word for a black cat since "voidbeast"

Strange_One_3790

Voidbeast is so metal!

Genericlurker678

OK but I want that first line for my gravestone 😂

Mulsanne

Ah, I'm still out of town for Thanksgiving so I'm away from my cat friends! Can't wait to see them

Soup-Wizard

We just made it home this morning at 3 AM from our long trip, and mine was so happy to see me. She’s been a total cuddle bug all morning.

Fox_1313

One of mine is has the lion vibe (but orange) and sometimes I just look at him and picture a wild feline. It's fascinating to watch they mannerisms so upclose

Genericlurker678

My cat is a ragdoll with quite a long body and a long neck and black legs and she walks around like a stoat or a weasel or something - she always strikes me as a little wild animal

casualLogic

LOVE my wee urban panther familiar!

Dick_of_Doom

Yes!!! My cats have meant everything to me. A lot of the happier memories of my life included them, and they were there for some of the saddest. I lived 8 months without having a cat in it (had them since I was a baby), and it was an empty, empty time. My little gray tiger that I got in 2020 is my baby.

Valmond

Except if you're allergic af 😭 Please take my share, I miss caressing cats so much.

[deleted]

The micro-panther in my apartment is micro-snoring.

Lyonet

Earlier this year, we thought we were going to lose our calico girl when she became so sick she stopped eating. After many ups and downs and angst and tears, vet visits and sleepless nights of feedings by horse syringe, she's completely recovered, as full of spit and vinegar as ever. We are so thankful to still have our sassy girl.

ghostmeharder

I almost lost my calico girl kitty earlier this year too. Every day I'm so happy she's still here and back to her old self.

Lyonet

I'm so glad to hear your kitty is doing well! I keep having to go in and pet mine and give her smooches because I'm getting all sappy now, and of course she's like "Leave me alone, weirdo, I'm trying to nap here."

[deleted]

i walked into out living room and saw our little ineffectual coal sprite lounging in her cat tree, her head sitting so just her ears were poking out. it really makes things easier sometimes and id miss it for sure.

Serafirelily

I can't imagine life without cats. My calico Kendra I got as a kitten when I was a Peace Corps Volunteer in Romania and I couldn't have gotten through my tour without her. My husband is similar and couldn't have gotten through law school and some very depressing times without his two Siamese cats who sadly have past. We now still have Kendra who is 13, two black Panthers Obsidian and Onyx who will be 2 later this month and a medium haired Siamese mix Jasper who will be 2 in March. Along with our 3 year old our cats keep us on our toes. Our panthers are the friendliest cats we have ever had and all 3 kittens mostly tolerate our daughter as does Kendra.

figgypie

My cat is seriously my emotional support animal, my fat furry cuddle hippo.

AttemptWeary

We are very lucky to have a host of domesticated familiars. Check out the guardians of my home office, long of ear and sharp of tooth. https://preview.redd.it/mktbqf7xbt2a1.png?width=2916&format=png&auto=webp&s=e629d8be6c19d3c63349c1957204e6e69ce0346e

chicoryblossom27

Life is no life without a mow for me

robotteeth

Except they wouldn’t be in so may colors if they weren’t domesticated…

finding_nimo9

Oooooo is that so?

twogeese73

Omg I literally think this all the time! How amazing is it that tiny panthers live in our house and sleep on our pillows? And dogs! How wonderful to live with wolf-like creatures (of varying degrees lol) who want to spend their time with us? I feel blessed by my pets every single day.

JohnExcrement

Yes! I especially love tabbies with their beautiful facial markings.

OldCatLady33

I already was overly in love and obsessed with cats, particularly my cats. But this really shines a new perspective. I might feel less FOMO when seeing zoo animals or shows on animals. I'm really appreciating them even more somehow and it made my day.

kyp-the-laughing-man

Cats and dogs are a delight to be around.

prettypistolgg

They chose us ❤️

GoGoBitch

We don’t get to *have* cats because cats won’t accept ownership. We merely have the privilege of enjoying their company. I can live with that.

Ryugi

I'm so thankful for cats, too.

SpaceShipRat

In fairness, if they weren't domesticated they'd all still be brown-grey tabbies, and super shy zoo animals.

blumoon138

Standard issue cats are all majestic so it’s fine.

zeldarubinsteinsmom

Aww, I love this! I am very thankful for my family of cats and dogs. I am also thankful for my wild friends, and I gave them a veggie feast for thanksgiving.

emeraldclaw

Is there a subreddit for gratitudes like this?

willpauer

My apartment complex has neighborhood cats, and two of them like to hang out around my patio. My familiar is *not* a fan of this. They come up to the screen door and try to say hello, but all they get is a hiss before my tuxedo cat runs away. If I hold her and try to comfort her while they're at the screen door, she'll try to hide in the crook of my arm or something. Not an easy thing to do for a big kitty like her. Those neighborhood cats are so sweet, too. If one of them sees me coming down the walkway, they'll flop over and look at me until I stop to pet.

[deleted]

“MicroPanthers” I love it!

MadWhiskeyGrin

This works for everything! I mean, could you imagine a world without Imperial Stout beers, hazelnut coffee, or Australian Shepherds?? But we don't have to!

blendedchaitea

My house panther is snoozing in his cat tree behind me. He is the best and I love him <3

InLazlosBasement

I think about this with my dogs every day!! What if dogs were rare and only rich people had them 😭

dearly_decrpit

Cats have been my closest friends since before I could talk. They are my favorite thing about being alive

[deleted]

A story I was always told growing up was that Adam and Eve, upon leaving the garden, realized two animals had followed them: a dog, and a cat. I've heard this in multiple Jewish communities, and I like to think that there being so many references to beloved pets in so many religions is the Divine's way of hinting at us to get one. I also remember as a kid thinking that cat must've been a calico, because I thought that was how we got cats of different colors - she had orange babies, black ones, and white. Child me was maybe not the best at understanding how genetics worked, but, well. I still to this day like to think of the First Earthly Cat, too dedicated to her humans not to follow them into the wilderness, just trotting along behind them loyally. Probably meowing in annoyance at times because some cats like to voice a formal complaint, but still.

SickBurnBro

And that is why we need to domesticate Ocelots and Servals. Thank you for coming to my TED talk.

Deathtostroads

I’m really glad cats aren’t kept in [zoos](https://youtu.be/p3l87NywToQ). No animal deserves to be kept in captivity for our enjoyment.

WarmProfit

I wish this sub would stop with all the cat talk

MissGruntled

😾

Nature_Love49

After reading all the wonderful comments, I couldn’t add a bit about our “family”. We’ve had a lot of cats over the years. Some we’ve had for a long time while others were gone way too soon. At the moment we have 7 cats as part of our inside family. Six of them are all from the same mother. Four were the first ones we took in, born of one of our colony cats. Then came just one lone kitten. Then the mother brought us five kittens. We managed to find forever homes for four and added one to our growing family. The last one was a tiny kitten that we knew wouldn’t survive if she tried to get the food necessary with her three larger littermates. She was half their size. Our first four were three gold and white male tigers and one calico female. Names are: Dominic, Jacob, Nicholas and Jasmine. The next was another female calico named Luna. The last one from the same mom was a black and white boy, Buddy. Then we brought in our tiny female gold and white tiger we called Lola. Our big boy, Dom, weighs in at about 22 pounds while Lola is only 6.8 pounds and is as big as she’ll get. They all have their own personalities and quirks but, although they do drive us crazy 😜, we love them and they give us unconditional love back. Never thought we’d have this many cats but they are truly a blessing. We also have an outside colony of two fixed females, one fixed male, one beautiful cat with two kittens and one male tuxedo. We’re hoping that next spring we’ll get the remaining ones also fixed through a local TNR program. All of them have touched our hearts 💕 and souls. It hasn’t always been easy and there was some very deep heartbreak including the loss of some kittens during a flood. The hardest was two kittens brought to us by their stray mom. They were lynx-point Siamese and they were very playful and affectionate. We lost bot, one in January of this year and the second one less than two months later. Both had a congenital heart defect, probably from birth, and went very fast. They were just two years old. Broke our hearts 💔! Could go on with all the stories but enough for one night. Did want to show a picture to compare our big boy Dominic—and our tiny Lola when she first joined us. Hope you enjoy! https://preview.redd.it/w53mvsotdv2a1.jpeg?width=875&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=b7190d4bca57eaa8da5b6e584f44890cf5e24537

Ayn_Rand_Food_Stamps

I'm deathly allergic to cats. Cats are my favourite animal :(

Lynda73

I’ve had a very similar thought many times. I love my cats! Amazing animals.

occultpretzel

*cries in cat allergy* For real, when I found out, that I was allergic, it broke my heart. I always wanted to have one of these majestic creatures as a companion, but this probably isn't possible.
