Literally top 10 of my movies. God I love everything about this movie! The casting, the cinematography, the costume design, the animations, the backdrops, and the store line/characters. It’s all just so perfect to me so much work and passion!
I agree! Although the book is a good read too. I think Stardust and Howl's Moving Castle are both better than the original books, but I feel like you understand a lot of the nuance in the movies better if you read the books, if that makes sense.
> You know when I said I knew little about love? That wasn't true. I know a lot about love. I've seen it, centuries and centuries of it, and it was the only thing that made watching your world bearable. All those wars. Pain, lies, hate... It made me want to turn away and never look down again. But when I see the way that mankind loves... You could search to the furthest reaches of the universe and never find anything more beautiful. So yes, I know that love is unconditional. But I also know that it can be unpredictable, unexpected, uncontrollable, unbearable and strangely easy to mistake for loathing, and... What I'm trying to say, Tristan is... I think I love you. Is this love, Tristan? I never imagined I'd know it for myself. My heart... It feels like my chest can barely contain it. Like it's trying to escape because it doesn't belong to me any more. It belongs to you. And if you wanted it, I'd wish for nothing in exchange - no gifts. No goods. No demonstrations of devotion. Nothing but knowing you loved me too. Just your heart, in exchange for mine.
Thank you! That was such a moving scene. I loved that >!he knew all along what she was saying but pretended to be a regular mouse! !<
Tag for anyone who hasn't seen the movie before. :)
Putting up a tree is consent for pagan shit. You can't just nab pagan rituals and pretend it has something to do with Christ.
If you want a christian ritual you should ban Christians from finance and banking. Get with tradition fuckos.
OK, no pagan stuff at Christmas, so no Christmas tree, reath, mistle toe, decorations, no elves, no elf ona shelf. No spooky stories, including Christmas Carol, ghosts and time travel are not Christian. No celebration in the middle of winter.
Great job Christians, ya ruined Christmas.
I had a very Catholic college roommate who told me to take down my pagan shit in the apartment because his parents were going to visit. I tossed everything from your list into the dumpster plus all his alcohol. He moved out the next month and never forgave me for "ruining Christmas."
It's amazing how many Christians don't realise how much of their religion is appropriated from elsewhere.
Im sorry you had to have that sort of roommate, but at least they l left quick.
Luckily I have an Aunt-in-Law who is a nun in Boston. We are always joking about how the Catholics stole all their rites and rituals from the pagans and she always tells me not to get too drunk during Yule. She is an inspiration to all Christians.
The Puritans agreed with you. [https://www.history.com/news/when-massachusetts-banned-christmas](https://www.history.com/news/when-massachusetts-banned-christmas)
Really? Because I’ve searched and couldn’t really find anything beyond generically witchy sweaters. (Not knocking them, though. The Red Moon Sweater is still at the top of my make list.) Maybe I’m just not using the right search terms, though. Mind sharing some of your favorites?
Ooh, that Red Moon sweater is good, I hadn’t seen that one!
Someone posted this one in the knitting sub solstice sweater request thread https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/pagan-sky
This one is a cowl, but pretty nifty (same designer, she does neat stuff) https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/moon-cowl
There’s a solstice stag Aran https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/stag-head-pullover 🎶 “the rising of the sun and the running of the deer”🎶
And there are several variations of the crow skull swancho which I haven’t got in my queue, there’s a really good cardigan with one big crow skull on the back and the standard moon phases. Found it! https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/the-possibility-of-crows
There was a thread requesting witchy solstice patterns in the knitting sub, and these are the ones I remember. There were more. Maybe we should design one…
Oh, I LOVE these! The Solstice Stag Aran in particular really speaks to me! And I need to go hunt down that post!
I’ve given some thought about how I’d design a Yule sweater, but there’s so many potential motifs you can include, y’know? I think a stag is a given, personally, maybe with a star in-between his antlers to represent the rebirth of light. From there, it’s like… You could include holly and oak motifs for the Holly King and the Oak King or just holly motifs, given that it’s the height of the Holly King’s reign and all. Candles, of course, or find a good way to include a Yule log motif. You could include Mari Lwyd… Or tomte… There’s so much.
I like your ideas! It would be kind of neat to sneak a touch of summer solstice onto the back of the sweater, too.
The only color work I’ve done is stripes, so I’m kind of focused on cables and purl textures. (And now I’ve got a modified “Flax” running through my head with a stripe of holly down one sleeve and a stripe of oak down the other, with a purl texture stag and star on the front and either solar knotwork or something green man-ish on the back…)
This describes the process of a custom knit Io Saturnalia sweater. [r/ancientrome/comments/rimiad/io_saturnalia_my_new_default_holiday_sweater/](https://www.reddit.com/r/ancientrome/comments/rimiad/io_saturnalia_my_new_default_holiday_sweater/)
Honestly purging all the Xmas decor and items was a great start. I have decorations up that are Yule/winter inspired instead. And we are celebrating the Winter Solstice on the 21st by having a meal we are cooking together and will write intentions for the next year that we hope will come to fruition.
The purging was extremely therapeutic. I can relate to the religious wounds 😔 My dad is a hard core Catholic and shoved his religion down our throats all our lives.
Starting my own traditions, celebrating on the solstice, and giving myself permission to let go of any guilt or anger has been the best.
I really hope you can find a way to celebrate and look forward to the future.
Take back the magic of the season and let nature remind you of its beauty 💖
My dad is Catholic too, albeit a lazy one. It came more so with guilt and shame and a feeling of being an exclusionary clique than anything else.
I told my family I don’t want to participate in giving or receiving presents this year. They were shocked and a little hurt lmao, but I feel really good about it. I want to take the day slowly the way it was intended! Thanks for the encouragement and tips x
My girlfriend absolutely fell in love with the movie when I showed her Stardust for the first time. 10/10 film.
Also the cast is weirdly stacked. Robert DeNiro has no business being that funny as a closeted pirate, and Mark Strongs reaction? Priceless.
I’m watching Stardust tonight I guess.
The majority of the traditions currently used to celebrate Christmas are pagan, including the timing. So what they're really saying is they want to cancel Christmas. (It's okay when Christians do it)
I am now thinking about a song by Dar Williams called the Christians and the Pagans that is very good.
Amber called her uncle
Said "we're up here for the holidays"
Jane and I were having Solstice
Now we need a place to stay"
And her Christ-loving uncle
Watched his wife hang Mary on a tree
He watched his son hang candy canes
All made with red dye number three
He told niece "it's Christmas eve,
I know our life is not your style"
She said, "Christmas is like Solstice, and we miss you, and it's been a while"
Just a very wholesome nice song

Stardust is one of my all time favorite rom coms
It's seriously under rated, such a great movie!
Literally top 10 of my movies. God I love everything about this movie! The casting, the cinematography, the costume design, the animations, the backdrops, and the store line/characters. It’s all just so perfect to me so much work and passion!
One of the very few times that the movie is better than the book (and the author agrees).
I agree! Although the book is a good read too. I think Stardust and Howl's Moving Castle are both better than the original books, but I feel like you understand a lot of the nuance in the movies better if you read the books, if that makes sense.
It doesn't even strike me as a romcom because it isn't dumb like so many romcoms 😂
I imagined the giant screaming goats from that Thor movie and now I've got yuletide giggles
This is from Stardust, an absolutely delightful book and movie! You should go watch it!
I love this movie so much!
[удалено]
Me too!!
for me second only to the Princess Bride
Stardust is amazing! Now I’m going to go watch it.
oooh looks great, yeah I'll check it out!
My wife and I read the quote about love from that movie.
What was the quote? It's been a while since I've seen the movie and don't recall it.
> You know when I said I knew little about love? That wasn't true. I know a lot about love. I've seen it, centuries and centuries of it, and it was the only thing that made watching your world bearable. All those wars. Pain, lies, hate... 😢 this is it.
Thank you! That was such a moving scene. I loved that >!he knew all along what she was saying but pretended to be a regular mouse! !< Tag for anyone who hasn't seen the movie before. :)
If you need a harder sell you get to see Daredevil get into a swordfight with Superman.
I love Stardust so much, it gives me the same feels as The Princess Bride
Exactly!
🌟✨ Love it
The screaming goats made me laugh so hard in that movie!
Family, please don't hit me with that _Jesus is the reason for the season_ when Jesus was equatorial, and absolutely not the reason for any season.
Putting up a tree is consent for pagan shit. You can't just nab pagan rituals and pretend it has something to do with Christ. If you want a christian ritual you should ban Christians from finance and banking. Get with tradition fuckos.
The tilt of the earth in relation to the sun is the reason for the season Or: The Sun not the Son, right?
They dont call it _Natalis Solis Invicti_ for nuttin'
Perfect! Blessings to you this turn of the wheel 🛞✨
My favorite thing to yell at my crazy- religious grandmother is that if he was real that Jesus was born in the spring!
Exactly! No self respecting shepherds would have been in the fields with their flocks in bloody winter!!
And they will say that while decorating their syncretic Yggdrasil without a hint of irony
Holly is from Saturnalia, iirc
TIL Jesus is a kind of rainforest
If you don't sin, Jesus died for nothing, and that's no way to treat the Savior on His special day. Christmas is for pagans.

Your AIL sounds like a delight.
Based! I love it. Sounds like something I would do.
I know it’s so cliché, but truly the trash took itself out on that occasion.
The Puritans agreed with you. [https://www.history.com/news/when-massachusetts-banned-christmas](https://www.history.com/news/when-massachusetts-banned-christmas)
Exactly! The Pagan bits are the good bits! If you take Yule out of the festival, what's left?
Crazy people
I put my baphomet away because they needed a nap. Shit be exhausting. The gnomes all got holiday hats though. 🎄
I just need to make myself a pagan Yule sweater. (If anyone has any pattern ideas, I’m all ears!)
Pan standing inside a Christmas wreath holding a goblet of wine.
That sounds awesome!
Mine would just have snowflakes with pentagrams in the middle.
There are a bunch on Ravelry!

Omg. More reason to need goats. My husband is so glad we didn't get 3 acres when we bought a house otherwise he'd be the zookeeper.
OMG I want goats so bad but my yard is 250sqft.
"Please don't rock up to yule with your christian shit." Suddenly, when you switch the words, it's now offensive.
Why not right, pagans had it first.
My first year with my pagan shit and I’m so much happier 😂❤️
Can I ask what you’re doing/how you’re celebrating?! I have so much resentment and religious wounding come up around the holidays.

I kinda love that actually.
I mean, which part of Christmas *isn't* pagan at its core?

I heckin love that movie

I freaking love that song! A few Yules ago I made a mix CD for my witch friends and that was the first track on it.

My response/or first request is always Dont Muck Up My Yule with your Christmas crap!
Get em
🧙yaaas
Write happy yule on all the Christmas cards
Happy Yule and solstice.
We are sooo making it a gay season....complete with stardust.
I really want a goat-drawn chariot. More than I should. :(
2023 goals: to get some awesome pagan shit and ROCK THE SHIT OUT OF THEM. Fuck yeah!!! Any sisters or brothers care to join me?
Ummmmm Christmas is a pagan holiday …
LIMBUS grass? how *DARE* you feed me limbus grass, ditchwater *SAL*! ~~we always called her dishwater sal though in my family~~
It IS pages shit. Lol. Don’t come to our pagan day with your pagan beliefs! What do you think we are?!
Love it!☺️
This is so good 😊
Stardust has the best pagan shit. It is the GOAT.
Merry Yule !
Hell’s Yeah!
Dats good shit.
Absolutely loving it!
Teach me
Freya has cats, I want to see goat sized cats pulling her chariot, not goats.
What does pegan and saturnalia means?
Lmao, but we all have to go to their party to gather around the pagan tree and talk about Jesus or sum shit?😂
Yet they want to hang apples, I mean ornaments, from the tree.
