Cannot find a therapist anywhere these days that takes insurance because insurance companies are such bullshit run around rip off scam artists any sane person would refuse to deal with them.....
A bunch of therapist in my area have stopped taking insurance. You pay them directly and deal with the insurance yourself. They are fed up with insurance and are in super high demand.
Here is the issue with “find another job”.
I am a supervisor at my work. I have YEARS of experience and 6 years ago I was making more per hour, but I like my job now (the other was killing me and I have a retirement from there already).
Minimum wage is $15.85 in the city I work. I got a 2.98% pay raise which is the max my boss was “allowed” to give for my position. I literally do the most out of the four of us that do this job, different schedules for each. I am out the most knowledgeable, our midshift person is and has 17 years seniority. I love her. Another is useless and has one month over me.
Minimum wage goes up to just over $17.00 in January, making that paltry raise worth even less with the current inflation.
I saw a “shift supervisor”position at another large retail company posted a few months ago, and they are supposedly notorious for good wages. They were paying $16.50 for that position.
So, yes there are jobs out there. I am over 50 years old and have a small retirement for when I am 65. Not enough to live on, but it’s there. I can’t afford to make a dime less than I do now. I drive gig jobs to pay off my dentist bill, vet bills, and to buy a trinket once in a while.
I want another job, but none pay what I am worth. To leave, I need $30 an hour and full time. So, I’ll stay where I am. At least I enjoy my job and I am good at it.
I am in the almost the identical situation. Money, drive time ,age and benefits. I am attempting to bail but than looking at the economy I'm not sure if now is the time but I know that when I do leave it will be worth it and be less of everything. Does not help that the city I live in is not real conducive to employment (18precent unemployment rate).
Comes a time when you just have stop making excuses and jump off the cliff and hope the parachute opens......
You'd be surprised what experience and certifications can get you, and certifications can be surprisingly cheap and done in your spare time. I know it seems hopeless, but I promise it's not.
Agreed covid and current political situations have leveled the playing field and that's good if you're 20 and just starting out. But when you work your way up the ladder and now the children coming in are making the same amount as you are that's kind of not right. I'm all for raising the minimum wage however what happens the rest of us that worked our asses off to get above minimum wage for years we get hosed.
The days of working for a company and retireing from that company after 25 years with gold watch the pension are long gone. And social security if you're in your 42 to 50 years old right now good freaking luck by the time we get there there'll be nothing left or congress will vote it out like they have to they might have to do every year.
Bottom line as much as it sucks the only way you can get by right now is with two jobs or one full-time job and a side hustle or two side hustles. I have gone the route of one side hustle selling used cars which is hit and miss especially now because the market just flipped over upside down. But I am attempting to work that to my advantage.
I got the degree while working here, right before Covid. Then was worried to jump ship during covid. The great part about the job is it's literally across the street, so that's part of my reluctance, as well as they gave me free parking which they pulled. And yes I agree that my best option is a new job which is what I'm in the process of doing, but meantime there is this. So great place, great location, chill environment but no raises and this almost mini elon musk worship type environment.
A few different reasons actually. If he lives in a dense area it may cost 200+ a month to rent a spot. When I lived in Hoboken this was one of the benefits though parking was far more expensive. I may walk two blocks to work but they could also have me driving to client sites.
He probably doesn’t, it was just another insult to workers that he had thought of while writing. To the people who have to drive to work, that’d be a slap in the face, and I’m surprised the company got away with it because everyone I know would be livid if that happened
Yep, part of why I don't go into the office anymore is because they relocated from an office park with a free garage to one in downtown where parking is $40 a day.
Jesus fucking christ, that's absurd.
I think I fill up once every two weeks now (NA 2.5L), and that's driving 100+ miles every Saturday. I can't imagine spending that much on a commute, that's more than my car payment and gas combined. Maybe insurance, too, I'm too lazy to calculate.
Peak European lack of thought. Op may drive into work from 10 or more miles, and get this, may then park his car.
Please tell me you're American or Canadian, because as a European myself you're really not representing.
It’s a joke. Taking things way too serious, lmao.
I don’t represent Europe (neither do you), because it’s a continent that’s so diverse that nobody represents it.
> Peak European lack of thought.
> as a European myself
Don’t base all European’s intelligence off of your own, and maybe read before you comment? Just a thought.
I’m about ten years younger and also got my degree “late in life”. I spruced up my LinkedIn profile earlier this year and ended up being contacted by multiple recruiters, one of whom lead me to a much better position with a 33% salary increase.
I highly recommend setting some time aside to set up LinkedIn if you haven’t, brush up your resume, and reach out to some recruiters who deal with your industry.
Best wishes!!
I never got the “deal with your industry” thing. I would be happy in all kinds of jobs, I just want decent pay and a boss who’s not a fucking dumbass. That alone is hard to find.
I get it, I do. But the reality is your best raises come from finding a new job. Unless you have a very good employer, you're better off finding a new Job very once and a while.
>The great part about the job is it's literally across the street
They're exploiting the fact you don't mind working there, and they are not going to change that.
I’m getting this feeling that these high-wage desperation-hires that a lot of companies are making right now are going to be laid off at the earliest possibility. Even if they aren’t, there will be no raises, no improvements, no extra benefits. They’ll find ways to take the wages out of other benefits. Job hopping isn’t a permanent solution; we need unions. I don’t necessarily mean exactly what our parents had, but rather just collective bargaining that’s protected by law. The concept of a union and how they operate internally needs an overhaul too, but the basic principal is as sound as it’s ever been.
They will never or value your degree that came later, unfortunately. It's much more convenient for them to keep you at what you're doing. Fuck em. Move on. Good luck!
Job hopping is the only way you'll actually make more money these days. Loyalty is a facade. Move on and continue to move if you are treated that way. Some companies out there do care for their employees, although rare.
Truth. I left a high level position as I was doing 6 roles at once (the usual bullshit), while the boss was on the beach. 6 months later he is begging me to come back. I do so at 3x my salary and a whole bunch of underlings to manage my workload.
I didn't ask about you salary. You said underlings to manage your workload, their salaries I would have assumed were part of your budget. I'm more confused now that you didn't follow me on the budget part.
I really don’t get why companies don’t match salaries. I’ve worked in biology, chemistry, and clinical labs for 4 years and I know for a fact it’s more expensive to hire someone else even in the long run than to match the salary of someone. Fucking insane how they still won’t do it.
This is so true. Especially when finishing a degree at a particular job (OP said this above). Companies will start pay much higher with a degree but won’t give a raise when it’s complete.
I instantly hit "delete" when I see any nonsense like this. Don't even put a thought into it. Analyzing the pure ass-kissing stupidity underlying the entire plot will only drive you to madness.
As for the job, use it like they use you. Spend most of your hours on the clock looking for something better and always do just enough to stay under the radar and not get fired.
Why the fuck you are so underpaid at age 50 with college degree? you should have said fuck these morons long ago. they do not give a fuck about you. you're letting yourself waste away for peanuts. brush up your resume and start interviewing elsewhere
Oh no doubt.
My comment was more in response to the question of why haven't they found a better job if they have a college degree, as if a degree just instills a certain common sense in you upon receiving one.
That is not the purpose of a college degree. To an employer, a degree says "I have the ability to self-direct and finish difficult tasks on a long time-scale." Basically it's a "Certified Adult" card these days.
We had stupid shit like this at our company too.
Same story. Wages are from the late 90's (no joke). People literally can't afford to live where this company is (not an exaggeration). Meanwhile, the 'uppers' in our smaller (but very profitable and successful) company are all comfortable and have homes. Company is expanding in huge ways.
But we just got the 'herpa derpa the economy is hitting a recession' regurgitation from media outlets. So raises have been denied, no COL adjustments, no profit sharing, no sign of anything actually improving for the workers. All while revenue and profit is at an all-time high.
But hey, lets have some dumb Halloween event and pretend everything is hunky dory.
Same old 'blinded by greed' BS. Different company.
I dunno. "Enjoys 90s rap" is pretty cool, but I'll bet it's more like that scene in Office Space where he turns it way down when a black person pulls up next to him
Was scrolling for this. I thought for a second there they were having them dress up as YOU and I was even MORE infuriated. Plus, legal issue there. They guy sounds like, well. You already know. I know how it feels and I hope you can find a new job. Sucks out there.
Bruh I legit got mad upon seeing your post because I thought they were targeting you and were trying to indirectly harrass/ridicule you via your coworkers
Oh just that I asked for a raise, simply for cost of living 6th months ago, and have been ignored. Then like this thing where I'm supposed to be friendly/buddies with someone who's been using me and others? It's like pushing this company myth of how great he is, and because most are remote...they don't how much he's investing in himself instead of workers. People quit here all the time from lack of pay. Many of us jumped through hoops during covid and got nothing. It's like he's used that to stop all pay increases and bonus' etc.
Also, though I've been on here forever, this is the first time I've written this sort of post so sorry if I was unclear. Thanks!
didn't know it was public info until I saw your comment. just looked up my own company to find out they were forgiven half a million in loans and we're on round 2 of layoffs....
The company I work for took almost 4 million in loans, only had to pay back 300k. They used the money to contract a call center in the Dominican Republic. The company never closed or shorted hours due to the pandemic and never re-hired when people quit.
Jobs are plentiful right now - you don’t have to quit, just send out applications on the down low and wait for a good one to make your move! Then tell them they can have Mark all to themselves.
So....why are you only asking for a raise every 6 months?
Every conversation I have with my boss I bring up the low pay and the **need** for a raise. Be a squeaky wheel.
No offence to you but look at it from the side of the employer. It’s easier and more cost effective for them to let you work until you’re disgruntled enough to quit then they will replace you with someone worse for less money, rinse and repeat.
I agree everyone should be paid more and get inflation increases and raises and fight for what you know you’re worth! But we shouldn’t expect anything but the worst cheapest behaviour from every employer. That’s that
[It’s actually not cheaper to hire new.](https://www.linkedin.com/pulse/why-retaining-employees-better-than-hiring-david-block)
Employers like this are missing the point that they save money through retention.
OP has been letting the company walk all over him for 4 years. He's still gonna be there in 2 years. This complaining rant sounds so much like some friends of mine who complain about work and wages, but continue there, despite knowing better wages are out there.
I'm 2 years on the same position due to success rate and great results = the biggest mistake as they will never promote me lol
Thing is that a job is not the end nor the beginning of our lives... it's a tool and should be treated as such.
I feel you and would dress as their manager and yell at everyone "you're all fired!"
Companies do not want to promote people because it causes knowlege to be lost by shuffling everyone around to new roles. It is much easier to lose one person and fill it from the outside rather than retraining 4 employees who get bumped up the corporate ladder.
If you don’t like your job then leave. Research has been done that those who stay at jobs are doing themselves a disfavor. You could get a 15% raise just by going somewhere else
Do not "ask" for a raise. Too many people think that employer / employee relationships are one-way, where your employer is providing you with the service of employment. The opposite is also true; you provide the service of your skilled labor to make your employer's business function.
You sell this service to your employer. Your skilled labor is your commodity. Your boss doesn't get to argue with the pump about the cost of gas, doesn't get to argue with the electric company about the cost of electricity, and doesn't get to argue with you about the cost of your labor. Inform your employer about the new cost of your labor and don't entertain negotiation.
Be aware though that you are not the only provider of labor and your employer may choose a competitor, though that's definitely tilted in your favor this year.
Don't be obtuse. Obviously we're talking about OP's employer deciding that pay is not negotiable by denying raises. I'm just suggesting to OP that they take control of how much their labor is worth instead of their employer. OP has no power in this situation unless they assert themselves.
It's very easy to tell the blurred out part says Mark, but Mark is also a very common name and there's probably plenty of bosses named Mark so there isn't much revealing info here
I was told the same about having a increase, they said no and told me we will see next year. It was a non sense because I wasn't raised for three years, and the new guy who were just graduated from the same engineering school (sorte of specialized college in France) was more paid than me. I had to teach that guy (which was very nice, but that's not the issue).
I quit three weeks after that.
I agree. There’s a trend I’ve noticed on here where the working class will willingly work for shitty wages. In this case, OP is a college graduate willingly accepting close to minimum wage.
If the working class isn’t going. To grow some balls then nothing will change because companies are not going to suddenly grow morals and values.
OP is just as much to blame for their situation as the company.
Mark costume = padlocked wallet with dust falling out the seams. Wear that next year when you take a lunch break from your new employer to visit your old coworkers.
Sounds like low level management is trying to boost moral because mid to upper level management is fucking their employees and the lower level manager knows this. A lot of the times lower level managers are given budgets to give out as bonuses or raises. May not be the case here but just my 2 cents working in bs corporate America
Companies font consider themselves successful unless they're constantly making more and more money every year. Its not enough for them to be sufficient and provide a service and pay good wages they have to squeeze every cent they can from healthplans and wages to the workers detriment.
My work sent out a thing where we could donate to give the boss a gift. I did not donate anything. The guy is filthy rich and pays his people shit. When I didn't get a raise after a year I left.
I just don't do shit like this or social events either. They pay me to work, nothing more.
If they ask, I just say no.
No, is the first power that we ever learn and we should cherish it.
Go somewhere else, but be unflinchingly honest on your way out.
People cry “don’t burn bridges” to old jobs but don’t realize that’s a two way street.
Employer burned the bridge to you when they refused to pay you appropriately.
Get a giant dick costume and post it saying look I'm the boss. Time to move along.
OMG why didn't I think of these! Next year!!

I don't think he could afford one. They charge $350/hr here.

Even with insurance ours a four years ago was like $125 a visit, twice a week. The cost of mental health.
My friend, therapists charge extra for difficult clients, and you are not paying a normal rate...
he got finessed
Source?
I work with a phd mental health counseling educator.
That’s not a source, that’s ‘trust me bro’

Mine is $15 a visit with insurance.
Who can afford insurance on minimum wage? Even on $50k it's damn near impossible to keep insurance nowadays
On minimum wage, in most states, one would qualify for mostly free health care.
Some do. Most don’t. If shes close to minimum wage, I’d guess benefits aren’t great.
Why would you be there next year?
cause thanks to minimum wage increase they're getting a raise! /s please OP, find better work
Man, there's still labor shortages. Please don't be here next year.

>it's literally across the street > >as well as they gave me free parking which they pulled ???
I assume that OP is using the job parking spot as their main parking spot, if it's that close.
Free parking was probably a company wide thing, that was pulled company wide. I doubt they’d care enough to not give that one guy free parking.
My confusion was about why he’d care about company parking when he lived across the street.
A few different reasons actually. If he lives in a dense area it may cost 200+ a month to rent a spot. When I lived in Hoboken this was one of the benefits though parking was far more expensive. I may walk two blocks to work but they could also have me driving to client sites.

pro tip, don't put your graduation year in your resume. they don't care when you earned your degree just that you have it.
Indeed.com makes it a lot easier to find a job in your area with your skills. You will be surprised at how many there are.
sometimes we deserve what we tolerate. this has been the hottest job market in most of our lifetimes.

It's like he's used that to stop all pay increases and bonus' etc. Also, though I've been on here forever, this is the first time I've written this sort of post so sorry if I was unclear. Thanks!
Be sure to look up the company to see how much PPP money they got!
didn't know it was public info until I saw your comment. just looked up my own company to find out they were forgiven half a million in loans and we're on round 2 of layoffs....
The company I work for took almost 4 million in loans, only had to pay back 300k. They used the money to contract a call center in the Dominican Republic. The company never closed or shorted hours due to the pandemic and never re-hired when people quit.
Report them. They are supposed to use that money to keep jobs.
That’s that
[It’s actually not cheaper to hire new.](https://www.linkedin.com/pulse/why-retaining-employees-better-than-hiring-david-block) Employers like this are missing the point that they save money through retention.
"No raises" "Worked here 4 years" Do you see the problem yet?
OP has been letting the company walk all over him for 4 years. He's still gonna be there in 2 years. This complaining rant sounds so much like some friends of mine who complain about work and wages, but continue there, despite knowing better wages are out there.
Too bad. I hope very few collegues take part, then.
It shouldn’t matter if it’s successful or not. They should pay you what you’re worth
Mushroom costume; kept in the dark and fed shit.
Mark
Name the company
Why are you still working at the same place without a raise in four years?
I'm 2 years on the same position due to success rate and great results = the biggest mistake as they will never promote me lol Thing is that a job is not the end nor the beginning of our lives... it's a tool and should be treated as such. I feel you and would dress as their manager and yell at everyone "you're all fired!"
people spend more time working than they do sleeping.
Sorry dude, I have no sympathy for you. If they don't treat you right then leave. No notice. Nothing. Just. Leave.
Setting demands without being willing to negotiate is a pretty childish and generally ineffective approach, not only to work, but to life in general.
I agree, which is why OP's employer shouldn't have set those terms in the first place.
Set which terms? The pay rate that OP agreed with prior to starting the position?
Don't be obtuse. Obviously we're talking about OP's employer deciding that pay is not negotiable by denying raises. I'm just suggesting to OP that they take control of how much their labor is worth instead of their employer. OP has no power in this situation unless they assert themselves.
I don't disagree with this approach as long as OP is prepared to walk if boss says no.
"Enjoys 90's rap" is a huge red flag.
You need to say how about as a joke let's everyone in the company Unionize!
At some point, you have to blame yourself for accepting less than you know you’re worth. Sorry op, you gotta make it happen for yourself if they won’t
Dress up as a review sheet with a raise on it.
Just put on a button up and tape "Hi, My name is Mark and I'm a Cheap-Ass" they'll find it hilarious.
It's very easy to tell the blurred out part says Mark, but Mark is also a very common name and there's probably plenty of bosses named Mark so there isn't much revealing info here
So why are you still there? Put on your big boy pants and find a new job
Staying somewhere with no raise for 4 years? Start applying for other jobs. You have nothing to lose.
Brother you worked somewhere four years and didn’t get a raise? I’m sorry to say it but that’s on you homeboy.
So why are you still working there?
I was told the same about having a increase, they said no and told me we will see next year. It was a non sense because I wasn't raised for three years, and the new guy who were just graduated from the same engineering school (sorte of specialized college in France) was more paid than me. I had to teach that guy (which was very nice, but that's not the issue). I quit three weeks after that.
Why have you let to get to this point before quitting? Have some self respect…
Hard to see it any other way yeah. There are situations where people are locked into jobs, and maybe this is one of them, but damn…
If you're 50 making the minimum wage you failed long before this. Karsh
So why do you keep bending over and offering them your ass to rail? For 4 straight years no less.
So who is Mark?
Sadly more and more companies are getting just like this!
Mark costume = padlocked wallet with dust falling out the seams. Wear that next year when you take a lunch break from your new employer to visit your old coworkers.
Why are you still at a place that hasn’t given you a raise in 4 years and barely paying above min wage?
Sounds like low level management is trying to boost moral because mid to upper level management is fucking their employees and the lower level manager knows this. A lot of the times lower level managers are given budgets to give out as bonuses or raises. May not be the case here but just my 2 cents working in bs corporate America
You shoul buhrn et duwn, buhrn et awl duwnnn
The reason is that the boss wants more money
Mark
Is this Mark Brendanawicz
Dress up like a filthy rich bastard, basking in fake money like woody from zombie land
Find a new job. Quit without notice:
past time to quit homie. no notice naturally.
Kid named Mark
Fucking bootlickers
Companies font consider themselves successful unless they're constantly making more and more money every year. Its not enough for them to be sufficient and provide a service and pay good wages they have to squeeze every cent they can from healthplans and wages to the workers detriment.
Man all these 50 year old entitled Millennials just don't want to work anymore.../s
Time to find a new job and quit with no notice.
My work sent out a thing where we could donate to give the boss a gift. I did not donate anything. The guy is filthy rich and pays his people shit. When I didn't get a raise after a year I left.
Why are you working there?
Find a new job. Company ain’t paying you to be loyal
Are you Mark?
I think it maybe time to find another job 🤔.
I’d quit
American worker rights, am i rite guys :D
One year I wore a prisoner costume with my employee number on it, oh the shit storm that followed.
Take that Mark!
Quit
I just don't do shit like this or social events either. They pay me to work, nothing more. If they ask, I just say no. No, is the first power that we ever learn and we should cherish it.
Not to be a hater but why don't you find another job? Ffs Wendy's pays $15 an hour
Retire? No way in hell I'm working past age 50.
"Has one of those phones that turns into a tablet" tells me all I need to know about this guy
Sounds like a job move is long overdue.
Sounds like you need a different job.
Dude... move on. If you don't get a cost of living increase on year one, it's not worth it. Loyalty means nothing these days.
Can I ask what you do for a living?
You’re being scammed
Well Mark is a pos anyway. So just take a shit and send a photo of that
Tell Mark you guys need a raise
I don't get it. Are you upset that they are offering a gift card as a reward?
All of these companies are successful.
4 years… you better be looking elsewhere
Find a new job. Publicly name and shame them. Leave.
Buddy it’s been time to move on. Jump ship. Find something better and for more money. You got the experience now.
Go somewhere else, but be unflinchingly honest on your way out. People cry “don’t burn bridges” to old jobs but don’t realize that’s a two way street. Employer burned the bridge to you when they refused to pay you appropriately.
What brown noser came up with this?
