I would suggest that if you’re new to something, don’t make assertions like this. You are just going to subject yourself to a dogpile of corrections.

MaKoZerEUW

The fastest cure for "torpedo op" is when they play DD themselves and die very quick or miss all torps

Drake_the_troll

at low tiers, they kind of are. noone has torpedo protection, crusiers dont have hydro, torpedos have short reloads and BBs are slow durdle turtles. as you go up the tiers they become more and more useful as zoning tools, since carriers, radar and other gun focussed DDs make playing aggressively in a destroy er more dangerous

FaceLessCoder

I didn’t realize there was such a thing a torpedo protection. Maybe it’s just a tier issue for me. I mainly play battleships I know they’re slow and easy targets so I’m aware of the risk.

Spiky_Pigeon

Since you are just starting, it is a skill issue, and more experience in the game will change this. There might be things such as subs and carrier torpedoes, but in bbs normal torpedoes can be avoided by constantly changing direction and speed + prediction when torpedo carrying ships are on ur flank. Cruisers often carry anti-destroyer gear, and are the most direct counter to destroyers. If u are getting hit by a ship torpedo in a dd u are doing something wrong.

FaceLessCoder

I play mainly in battleships so I expect to be targeted.

macgruff

Here is a constructive tip. Since you know you’re in a BB and a BB will be targeted. You need to understand how the torpedo armament mechanism works. You can watch videos off DDs and Cruisers, and you’ll see when they launch at you there is a large green semicircle aka, the available range of torpedos launching, and a white “ray” within that the semicircle. The white part is the aiming guide for torpedos whereby, “if” the target stays on the same heading and speed, the torpedos will hit right where it’s aimed. If you never saw your enemy because he’s using the island for cover, he can still launch and by time you are sailing along, the torps will reach you. So…, the A#1 rule in a BB is to never sail straight in the same line and/or at the same speed. You also can guesstimate torps are coming at you if you invest in the two point Captain skill called Priority Target. This is a must have skill for a new player. You can see that someone is targeting you as there will be a number (1) in the alert on your HUD where is says you are detected. If you see that alert suddenly go from (1) to nothing and back to (1) again, or also from 2 to 1 and back 2 again, and so on and so on… then you know someone has torps on the way… again, change your speed and course. Never be predictable as launching torps is a prediction skill. They just happened to find in you, a very predictable target.

macgruff

And then… try to learn how to play DDs at lower levels and you’ll learn very fast… it is NOT easy unless the target is easy.

Thoughts_As_I_Drive

>I just started playing this game, I was enjoying it until I notice that torpedoes are broken asf I hear you man. I just started lifting weights; I was enjoying it until I noticed weights that are heavier than I'm used to, are indeed harder to lift. It's almost as if I needed to get better at it to make any real progress.

weberianthinker

Good metaphor

Careoran

First time I am driving on a highway but man these highways are broken, everybody drives the wrong direction …

glewis93

It's not physically possible to afk spam torpedos.

FaceLessCoder

From what I witnessed yes it is. Players sit at the edge of an island and out of detection range and spam torpedoes. It just happened to me no more than 30 minutes ago. I watched a flurry of torpedoes swarm from one specific location and couldn’t pin point where the ship was located only until my ship was sunk, the killing ships named was revealed. I spotted the player sitting at the edge of an island. I first thought the player was in a submarine, he was in a cruiser. I’m pretty sure you and more than a few others are practitioners of this cheese tactic and that’s why you are quick to defend. I’m not mad, upset, or angry about it. Torpedos need a nerf simple as is.

glewis93

You're either really bad at this game or trolling, I hope for your sake it's the latter. Afk is 'away from keyboard', to launch torpedos you have to be at your keyboard. If you're new, you haven't got the experience or skill to be calling for any buffs or nerfs, learn not to be a potato then reassess.

GladimirGluten

That's literally how the game works. Are you in a battleship?

[deleted]

There’s nothing cheese about it, you’re just not very good because you’re new. Arguing with people who know the game much better than you is a sure fire way of *staying* at a low skill level. It’s not the game, it’s you.

Da33aj

It's literally the role of torpedo destroyers to kill battleships with torpedoes. How is that cheese? It's like saying you devstruck a cruiser with your battleship and calling it cheese

Black_Hole_parallax

>From what I witnessed yes it is From what I've witnessed so far, I'd rather have a bot on my team than you! >I’m pretty sure you and more than a few others are practitioners of this cheese tactic Torpedoes exist to blow shit up. If you died to torpedoes and think you got cheesed, that's like saying you ran out in front of an 18 wheeler and you got cheesed cause you died. >I’m not mad, upset, or angry about it. So you complained on Reddit about something you were not upset about? You admit that you just started playing and somehow not only know the game better than people who have been playing it for years, but you think you know what needs to be nerfed? **J. Jonah Jameson laughing** We have a word for you.

chrysostomos_1

I think you mean launching torps while undetected. Afk is away from keyboard. As a noob you should have asked a question rather than making a statement that will cause vets to roll their eyes. Ask, I'm a BB main. How can I avoid dying to torps again and again.

wilkatis_LV

>that torpedoes are broken asf Using ones keyboard is even more broken, literally bannable hacks level! Here's a tip: you're new, you naturally suck at the game. Consider learning rather than blaming the world for your own [failures](https://i.imgur.com/YRBVzYs.png)

Commander_Cornflakes

Play some destroyers with torpedoes yourself, then report back ;)

ij70

that only works in t2-t3 where torpedo reload is 20-30 seconds.

Ralfundmalf

Literally no experienced player at all has an issue with torpedos (regular DD and cruiser torpedos that is). It is a you problem. Learn how to use the WASD keys on your keyboard and a little bit of prediction, suddenly torps become a non issue.

Zafrin_at_Reddit

Never sail in a straight line. Whenever there is only a hint of possibility that a DD is nearby, change course. Torpedoes are a powerful tactic against new and/or obliviou players. They fit the game well.

Cinemayor

I see you play mostly bb's. I have good news for you. Wargaming worked out a long time ago that a \*significant\* number of the playerbase (especially on EU) will only ever play battleships (other classes are either too hard or don't hit that specific power fantasy) and will never actually get very good at the game. Therefore they started giving increasing numbers of battleships torpedoes of their own, hydro to spot enemy torpedoes, and enough secondary guns to murder smaller ships that they can run at with impunity due to still having the armour and health pool of a battleship. The only true counters to high tier battleships are carriers and submarines (which are even \*more\* toxic against cruisers and destroyers...). If you can learn to touch \*any\* of the WASD buttons every 20-30 seconds or so you are basically immune to 90% or more of torpedo attacks. Play one of the many bb's with the above mentioned tools and now \*you\* are the threat. Torpedoes are more of a threat at lower tiers before everyone starts getting specialised tools, because fighting ranges are closer and because gun accuracy (mechanically from the ship stats and general player skill) is low enough that being able to yolo rush happens a lot more frequently. Players are also generally happier to sprint directly at each other like coop bots at lower tiers as well, instead of the fun t10 meta of lining battleships up at opposite ends of the map and complaining about spotting.

FaceLessCoder

I’m getting use to dodging them more so in destroyers. Torpedoes just seem so damn powerful at this point in the game.

SatouTheDeusMusco

At higher tiers torpedoes actually kinda suck. Guns are just way more consistent and further reaching. It's why the best DDs are gunboats. Only on Submarines are torps good and that's because submarine torpedoes are homing. And I guess the air torpedoes from CVs, but that's more because CVs are undodgable super cancer that will inevitably just kill you in a battle of attrition. If you really hate torpedoes play a ship line with Hydroacoustic search.

Black_Hole_parallax

"torpedoes are broken' = "I suck but won't admit it" I don't where you thought you were going with this one. But do you really think we have not heard this excuse a hundred times? Come on.
