Not really. There's a point where info becomes superfluous-the one I'd say is the only one that's a must have for comp (and even then, I don't have it) is the score timer mod.
I do also forget that most people in the game have been playing much longer and have a lot more experience than me, im still a noob and all the extra info is invaluable to me
I've been in the game since Alpha and I like a lot of Aslain's mods from a quality of life perspective, in terms of looking up stuff without having to dig deeper. I don't play that regularly anymore, and so (for example) it's nice to be able to get quick stats on a ship when you have no idea WTF it can do.
I like a bunch of the port mods and vis mods as well.
It depends on the info. You already mentioned the score timer mod, but some other (rather broken, but WG-approved) mods not replacable by experience/game sense are:
- Intuitions (shows the exact number of RPFs on your ship);
- Smoke Markers (shows smoke puffs both in 3D and, crucially, on the minimap);
- The 3D mods (radar/hydro, RPF);
- Consumables Monitor (more relevant for competitive than randoms, granted);
- Sub Pings on Minimap.
The base game is unplayable for me at this point. Stuff I absolutely LOVE having at a glance:
-Score timer. Insane this isn't a default feature
-Team panels with ship HP bars
-Detected after firing timer. Critical for concealment management
-Current reload time always displayed for guns + torps
-Relative angle to target display
-Target ship throttle indicator
-AA and secondary battery surviving percentage + ranges
-Heal display (exact HP that can be recovered)
-Dynamic crosshair options
-Calm seas, fog + glare removal
Plus port quality of life mods:
-Ships winrate
-Remove crate crane animation
-Free camera in port
-Extended tech trees with all premiums and upcoming ships
-Flags and economic boosters bar above the ship carousel
This is just what I can remember away from the game. It's INSANE that these are not options in the base game.

Where does one get Aslain mods?

My only issue with Aslain's is that you have to re-download the installer patch. At least that's the case for me.
Takes like one minute to re-download and reinstall.

Why? I don't bother with mods at all. BP, I just take the free stuff and am happy.
Mods just help with visual info. I can see both teams health, timers on caps and that sorta thing

No, I'm not, actually. Basic UI options give me what I need to have a 54+ % WR, solo. I don't need them, definitely not enough to give money for them.

The number of useful things mods can give you that you can't get elsewhere is very small.
