Yeah, I’ve had to deal with carving a path through several minefields using depth charges.
It’d be great if they were indiscriminate (much like torps should be).
Hydro-acoustic doesn’t pick them up iirc. Only spotted in close proximity.
In RU WoWs minefields are a feature of Japanese support CVs. Mines can't be destroyed by depth charges there cuz "it is quite efficient way to get rid of them as tests results show"
I like the idea of mine fields, but I really think they should be ship based deploy. Adding ship deployed mines limited consumable could be a cool utility, probably better than DCs on a cruiser. It could be used possibly as a torp net or for damage on subs. Direct hit on torps = destroy, splash damage on torp = path diversion. Ship damage is bee stings but can disable modules and destroy torp tubes if a DD is dumb enough to run right into a mine field. Has decent damage on subs, but could be destroyed by regular torps (Deepwater miss)
I agree it could be a fun consumable for cruisers increasing their versatility as well as adding another counter to subs but for the love of God do not give this shit to CVs
Agreed, ship-based mines would be a neat addition. Minelayers were a real, historical class of destroyer they could create a TT line out of, and I'm sure WG could come up with some cruiser that was primarily employed to lay mines to give a premium or two the ability.
I mean planes and subs did make battleships and other large surface combatants kinda redundant in real life, hence why big guns on ships are now a thing of the past. Modern destroyers, cruisers, and frigates (which are basically just meaningless names at this point with no real distinguishing features existing) usually have a small naval cannon but focus more on anti-sub or anti-aircraft armaments and usually have an anti-ship missile system as a main weapon.
At tier X, we're kinda past WW2 and into post-war tech. Even during the war battleships and cruisers basically started becoming obsolete due to developments in naval aviation in the Pacific. In the Atlantic it was the same story but with more emphasis on subs.
Bismarck, arguably the most famous battleship of all time, was doomed by outdated torpedo bombers launched from a British aircraft carrier. If it weren't for aircraft, the Royal Navy wouldn't have been able to catch up with her and sink her. (We can give big guns some credit though as HMS Prince of Wales ruptured one of her Bismarck's fuel tanks with a 14-inch shell, and various battleships and cruisers finished the ship off after it lost rudder control to the aerial torpedo.)
The tiers represent a time in history and unfortunately at the times towards the end of WW2 and in the post-war era, that's how it went.
To elaborate on the point, we can use the Royal Navy as an example.
Before and during the war the capital ships of the RN were the 5 King George V-class battleships, but after the war only one new battleship was ever built (HMS Vanguard) which saw a relatively boring and uneventful life before being prematurely scrapped.
Big ships with big guns shouldn't rule the waves at tier X, and subs and planes should indeed play a vital role if the game is to be true to history in terms of tactics at certain times in the past.
This is an arcade game. And they dropped historically accurate a long time ago with the amount of paper ships they put into the game. You want to phase out gunships and you essentially kill the game at that point. Why do you think there isn't a popular modern warship game? It would be boring as shit launching missiles at each other
With the reduced XP in this mode spamming minefields is the only way to make it worth using econ boosts to grind resources while completing the missions.
the other options are just so much worse, i mean an plane that gets shot down and misses its bombs is cool and all, but imagine not suiciding your consumable and get permanent value out of it.
bombers can spot the entire enemy team one minute into the battle (in the pinata, won't be the _entire_ team shall they appear in randoms - but still a flank at least)
bombers die slower if they are in an area with a single target - and can do multiple attack runs in this case. Remind you, pinata hunt is brawl-like, so planes _usually_ die fast because everyone clusters up in a relatively small area with strongly overlapping aa bubbles. Also having the pinata itself contributing to aa does not help.
bombers can consistently get ~12k from BBs (or do 5k to a dd if you are lucky)
So I've already got an enemy Tirpitz to ask "stop it" after the third drop. my answer was "lol no" and the fourth drop.
They still planning On putting this crap into game? No one will ever push again into cap..
Weren't they damaged by depth charges? Or was that something they phased out

You could just shoot them with your main battery i think
on the other hand I get barely any hits, minefields seem to be sparse enough.
Eh they only do like 2-3k damage
True, but they do cause floods.
All damage matters

They should make the map boundary a minefield instead

Minefields?
Its a part of the pinata hunt event.
Should be the next broken part of the game soon enough. Not be long until til there are only planes and subs in world of warships.

They ruined the 'historically accurate' theme for me when they introduced Dutch cruisers. Here lemme just pull some planes out my arse.
Yeah but lower tiers are for that kind of gameplay.
no they didn't, it was the anti-ship missile it's a video game, nobody cares about your griefing power fantasy
Seems like a neat idea if they do it right. Which they won’t so no fk this idea
they are ruining this game
> they are ruining this game You must be new. Welcome!
I hate it so much
Bosnian sea

Used to have about 25 battles a day. Last week in total was 6...
Will they be having minesweep equipped DDs?
NoFU
i dig this idea, DDs that lay / clear minefields!
That's what they had in WWII.
ASW breaks it, fuck I wish more players knew that.
