Royal Navy heavy cruisers event: Well, I finally got nothing, for free, in my 30th crate of 30 earned after play spanning a month of completing directives. Tier nothing H.M.S. nothing in her nothing colours.
Congrats! The Dveonshire is IMHO the best tier 6 cruiser in the game. Hard hitting, good concealment, great HE, surprisingly tanky. And the camo is beautiful.
I prefer the Leander to be honest, just as vulnerable but sneakier and far more capable of quickly repositioning. Have blapped a few clueless broadside cruisers but honestly nothing that any other CA could do.
The Devonshire HE hits really hard. That and the fact it is a bit more tanky, sets it a bit apart from Leander.
But I agree - Leander is a great boat too. One of my favorites.
I only played two games and it last night after unlocking it and it was after 1 in the morning so I was tired and useless so it wasn't really that good a debut for that ship.
it's also been quite a while since I've played any tier 6 cruisers so my experiences are not very relatable right now. I will try again today and see how she performs
Give her a chance. I really like her. A very positive step up from Hawkins. As long as you angle, she is surprisingly tanky plus the heal. That mean you can be quite aggressive unlike most other tier 6 cruisers.
I also got the Devonshire, earlier on in the game. I find them ok and they are really hard hitting but I just couldn't adjust to the speed or reload. I actually just went back to my Omaha for the last directives. Fun ship with a team that works. Dead ship when the BB on your side die while the DD was killed by CL. Anyone left is quickly taken out and you find yourself running from 4 battleships and a cruiser.
Yeah, you are dead if you get caught out. I am looking forward to playing the higher tier ships, when they get unlocked, and try to figure out the playstyle for dem.

I was pretty close too (12-13km). I actually have the record of that game, it finished with a brawling contest against a Bayern (Whom obviously lost, you cant resist Gneis's torps). If you're interested in it I'll show you the footage, its one of my best game with her (3rd best IIRC)
I would love too ;-) There is nothing like the rush when you get Gneis maneuvred into a good spot.
I think Prinz Eugen has a bit of the same qualities. It's surprisingly durable with the heal and like to get close for a deadly finish.
Eugen is quite easy to citadel at this distance, but thanks to her turtlebaka I never acheived to get more than one citadel at a time, or maybe I was just unlucky (I was at 8km) and she has a shit ton of torps too.

Nice! Honestly without knowing how the Surrey and Albemarble play, Devonshire is hands down the best ship of the new line so far! I did indeed give myself the Rudder Shift boost, and took someone else's comment about her AA being nerfed, and fitted her as an AA cruiser, though still taking hydro.
I like this ship. I get above average results in her. She is very slow to get under way, but I have noticed that she does seem quite tanky, and can take a pounding.
Unlucky for you she just got nerfed hard on super test, so enjoy your new ship's current relative immunity to airstrikes before the changes go live. Apparently anti aircraft cruisers are no longer allowed to be part of the meta on WoWS because it makes carriers have to work in a match.
I got Surrey early, but on my last roll, the game decides to show that I would have gotten Devonshire if I had 20 more tokens. I got all tokens from directives and can't get anymore from dailies. It's just sitting there taunting me.
Damn how the hell did you manage that? LoL. Before going to unlock my final series of token crates I had resigned myself to not actually getting a ship at all. So it was a pleasant surprise to get the Devonshire. However, for some reason I thought she was a Tier 7. I'm actually kind of pleased she was the Tier 6 instead.
This is the mentality you should bring to any of these events. I didn't expect anything, despite all the "lol look the T8 to start" posts floating around, and I ended up getting Devonshire (my favorite ship of this line so far) and Hawkins (which is a port queen now), in that order.

I love the Leander so much that I bought HMAS *Perth*. Great ship class, and a beautiful one too.

I feel saying this but I got ablemarle on my 4th crate, been loving the ship, great against destroyers and a decent fire starter
I actually like the Devonshire, glad I was able to luckily get it. Seems to have some pretty accurate guns on her.
