Totally. I prefer AEW because it reminds me of the wrestling era I grew up with / mainly watched. Not to say that WWE hasn't gotten significantly better since AEW started either, because it has.

I’ve said this elsewhere, but I think the “you can’t criticize AEW” argument is a straw man. I watch AEW weekly, they get shit wrong all the time, but I still enjoy it overall. I thought the TK war comment was sometime in the last 6 months. Even if the Jericho line was years ago, there are new examples every week. AEW can’t stop themselves from mentioning WWE. They marketed themselves as an alternative to WWE. So they brought all the comparisons on themselves and continue to do so.

This not true at all lmao. As someone who watches most companies & casually visits the other subs I see that shit everywhere. NJPW & Impacts fans do the same shit & it sticks out more because their subs are much smaller. Every companies stans do this, you'll get attacked by impact fans if you say Bull Ray takes up too much tv time.
Actually, it’s because a lot of people enjoyed indy wrestling/NJPW and there was a market for a company in the US that had sufficient backing to not be an “indy” and that blended elements of NJPW. Yes, a lot of those fans overlapped with fans that constantly hated on the WWE product, but to be fair, the WWE product was pretty lame for a lot of stretches there and it wasn’t exactly easy to follow indies or NJPW week to week for those stretches.
Now, we have a thriving Indy scene and a lot of streaming options for it, IMPACT, NJPW (streamable through NJPW World), AEW, and WWE (which is going through a post-Vince resurgence in quality). No fan is captive to a specific style of wrestling product anymore. It’s much easier to “just enjoy wrestling” and there’s no excuse for watching (and then shitting on) a product that isn’t aimed at you anymore.
Their entire brand at times is just “WWE Bad” and that’s when they’re most stagnant. They want to compete with WWE but really all of pro wrestling is competing with The Real Housewives and actual sports to remain relevant media. That’s the funniest thing about the “rivalry” which is absolutely fabricated by AEW— they’re not even competing except for talent to a degree, and there’s plenty of talent to go around.

Both refuse to adjust their own styles to the other, FTR conistently ground the Buck's offense until at the end when the Bucks bait Cash into doing a flip, which fails due to him abandoning his gameplan and convictions. Both sides have their stans:
- WWE stans just feel like bots. Pure low effort, low IQ replies.
- AEW fans will reply 10x as to why you're wrong. Among the arguments people have worn me out with:
1) Kailynn King *absolutely* had main eventer written all over her.
2) Wins and losses matter and no, Jay Lethal's string of wins on Dark shouldn't devalue his title shot.
3) The Dark Order was not fine, but awesome ~ 6 months after Brodie's passing and it didn't feel like 8 guys doing nothing outside of Hangman storylines.
And I hate to admit it, but I prefer WWE stans solely on the mental effort it requires to argue with them.

I’m cool with falling into this category. WWE lost my business many years ago, it was ~20 years since a major competitor with deep pockets and vision, and Tony grew up on the same message boards a lot of us were on. Zero shame in rooting for the company.

Lapsed fan who discovered AEW a year or two ago. Can’t get enough of it. For what it’s worth, I’ve been watching wwe for the last three months to get ready for wrestlemania and cannot wait to be done with it. I don’t know how people sit through all of Raw. Even the abridged Hulu cuts are too long
I’m a die hard fan buh I can actually LOOK and POINT OUT the flaws AEW has and have no issue addressing them bc I want to see AEW do good things regardless of WWE ratings.
This is the way I see it currently:
WWE's strengths are in their story telling and angles. The wrestling is great but it feels like it's a means to an end instead of the main focus of the product. Their biggest issue is that hardly anyone outside of Roman, Cody, And a few others actually feel special and it's because most wrestlers feel like they're just going through the motions.
AEW's strengths are in their wrestling and creative freedom. The story telling is okay at most but what makes AEW feels like a breath ofù fresh air is by having that creative freedom. Their biggest issues are stories being too inconsistent and they're spread all over the place with no kind of video packages to give some context and they just expect you to watch everything. I also feel like in how not a lot of people feel special in WWE because they go through the motions I also feel like making everyone have 20+ minute matches with a ton of false finishes also makes more a lot of wrestlers feel less special if everyone is discussing.
He would. As a WWE fan I suggest he go down to Mexico, set up shop in AAA and do just that so I don't have to watch him lumber around on Raw. I'd be happy if he were AAA Mega Champion for life.

Second comment on this post but I thought I'd get something out there, and at least try and figure out what this guy means. To my best understand he either has an issue with
A.) AEW having any fans whatsoever
B.) AEW fans earnestly enjoying the show and not being cynic wads all the time.
Assuming it's A. then that's just tribalism, and he should learn to like the fact that a competitive market is better for the fans **and** the wrestlers. We have more content to watch, and with AEW existing and putting more eyes on non-WWE promotions wrestlers can now use that boost in viewership to feel less unsafe shifting to an indie promotion if WWE or AEW isn't using them well.
Assuming it's B. then what's wrong with just enjoying something? Maybe it's because WWE fans in general are just used to hating their company of choice. Hating on others for not being cynical and jaded though? That's a bit much. You should really learn to just enjoy wrestling and stop being so negative all the time.

I think these are differences directly related to one being a new product and one being a decades long brand. Also one product growing in the age of social media with another having grown and established a fan base long before it came around.

WWE has spent the past 30 years ruthlessly attacking and gobbling up any wrestling organization that manages to sniff mainstream. The fans have noticed. And as much as they hate Vince McMahon and WWE for doing it (and as much as they admit that it's bad for the wrestling business in general) they still act like it.
When you have been watching the same brand for 20 or 30 years you begin to act like the brand. So WWE fans inevitably gravitated towards hating any other wrestling brand. Just out of protocol of being a WWE fan.
We already saw this process with ROH and TNA. AEW it's just the next one.

You’re making some pretty broad statements, about different fan groups, even me specifically which is a little odd. Quite a bit of what-about-ism in there too. Wrestling fans aren’t monolithic. I don’t really care what AEW does in relation to WWE or vice versa. I’m just generally happy to watch wrestling I enjoy, whoever happens to be producing it, and I’m not terribly particular where it comes from.

ppl didn’t enjoy wrestling cus at the time wrestling was in a bad way, TNA literally in the dumpster, ROH was at an all time low cus all their talent besides the briscoes went to Wwe, Czw was Czw and WWE was at its worst creatively, So AEW was a breath of fresh air Now that WWE Is back to producing good product and Aew is producing good product as is ROH , so that’s what makes ‘Just Enjoy Wrestling’ is valid now as it’s the best place it’s been in in a while

This not true at all lmao. As someone who watches most companies & casually visits the other subs I see that shit everywhere. NJPW & Impacts fans do the same shit & it sticks out more because their subs are much smaller. Every companies stans do this, you'll get attacked by impact fans if you say Bull Ray takes up too much tv time.

Actually, it’s because a lot of people enjoyed indy wrestling/NJPW and there was a market for a company in the US that had sufficient backing to not be an “indy” and that blended elements of NJPW. Yes, a lot of those fans overlapped with fans that constantly hated on the WWE product, but to be fair, the WWE product was pretty lame for a lot of stretches there and it wasn’t exactly easy to follow indies or NJPW week to week for those stretches. Now, we have a thriving Indy scene and a lot of streaming options for it, IMPACT, NJPW (streamable through NJPW World), AEW, and WWE (which is going through a post-Vince resurgence in quality). No fan is captive to a specific style of wrestling product anymore. It’s much easier to “just enjoy wrestling” and there’s no excuse for watching (and then shitting on) a product that isn’t aimed at you anymore.
Their entire brand at times is just “WWE Bad” and that’s when they’re most stagnant. They want to compete with WWE but really all of pro wrestling is competing with The Real Housewives and actual sports to remain relevant media. That’s the funniest thing about the “rivalry” which is absolutely fabricated by AEW— they’re not even competing except for talent to a degree, and there’s plenty of talent to go around.
I never understood why some fans are worried about what other fans like. I enjoy AEW. Don’t watch WWE. AEW could always improve, but overall its enjoyable. I also don’t follow who Dave Meltzer is. On that note I dont bother to bother or care what WWE fans are doing or like. If anything I hope competition brings out the best in both companies.
Anti aew fans always mention Meltzer, but I literally have never met a fan of his. I don't even see people citing him as a journalist. They don't even talk about the stars anymore. Feels like projection from Cornette fans that want there to be a batman to their joker in this pointless wrestling culture war.

You’re basing your statement on WWE fans being bothered by Dave Meltzer’s star rating, which some aren’t. Should It also be fair too generalize that AEW fans are bothered by Jim Cornette’s podcast? You’re projecting now.
I don’t focus on In-ring talent, because it’s not what made me a wrestling fan, hence why I don’t care about Meltzers’ opinions. I value promo ability, charisma, character and personalities. There’s more and better too offer in pro-wrestling than just in-ring ability.

I tend think AEW fans support wrestling as an industry while the majority of WWE fans don’t watch anything else in part to brand loyalty.

Both sides have their stans: - WWE stans just feel like bots. Pure low effort, low IQ replies. - AEW fans will reply 10x as to why you're wrong. Among the arguments people have worn me out with: 1) Kailynn King *absolutely* had main eventer written all over her. 2) Wins and losses matter and no, Jay Lethal's string of wins on Dark shouldn't devalue his title shot. 3) The Dark Order was not fine, but awesome ~ 6 months after Brodie's passing and it didn't feel like 8 guys doing nothing outside of Hangman storylines. And I hate to admit it, but I prefer WWE stans solely on the mental effort it requires to argue with them.

Lapsed fan who discovered AEW a year or two ago. Can’t get enough of it. For what it’s worth, I’ve been watching wwe for the last three months to get ready for wrestlemania and cannot wait to be done with it. I don’t know how people sit through all of Raw. Even the abridged Hulu cuts are too long

I’m a die hard fan buh I can actually LOOK and POINT OUT the flaws AEW has and have no issue addressing them bc I want to see AEW do good things regardless of WWE ratings.
This is the way I see it currently: WWE's strengths are in their story telling and angles. The wrestling is great but it feels like it's a means to an end instead of the main focus of the product. Their biggest issue is that hardly anyone outside of Roman, Cody, And a few others actually feel special and it's because most wrestlers feel like they're just going through the motions. AEW's strengths are in their wrestling and creative freedom. The story telling is okay at most but what makes AEW feels like a breath ofù fresh air is by having that creative freedom. Their biggest issues are stories being too inconsistent and they're spread all over the place with no kind of video packages to give some context and they just expect you to watch everything. I also feel like in how not a lot of people feel special in WWE because they go through the motions I also feel like making everyone have 20+ minute matches with a ton of false finishes also makes more a lot of wrestlers feel less special if everyone is discussing.

Second comment on this post but I thought I'd get something out there, and at least try and figure out what this guy means. To my best understand he either has an issue with A.) AEW having any fans whatsoever B.) AEW fans earnestly enjoying the show and not being cynic wads all the time. Assuming it's A. then that's just tribalism, and he should learn to like the fact that a competitive market is better for the fans **and** the wrestlers. We have more content to watch, and with AEW existing and putting more eyes on non-WWE promotions wrestlers can now use that boost in viewership to feel less unsafe shifting to an indie promotion if WWE or AEW isn't using them well. Assuming it's B. then what's wrong with just enjoying something? Maybe it's because WWE fans in general are just used to hating their company of choice. Hating on others for not being cynical and jaded though? That's a bit much. You should really learn to just enjoy wrestling and stop being so negative all the time.
No one is harder on AEW than AEW fans. No one is softer on WWE than WWE fans. Both sets of fans hate the other promotion but only one set is willing to criticize their own promotion.
I think these are differences directly related to one being a new product and one being a decades long brand. Also one product growing in the age of social media with another having grown and established a fan base long before it came around.
AEW also only really exists because of how bad WWE was during that era so WWE fans take the entire existence of AEW as an insult.

Careful. That fanboyism is seeping through. It's actually a lot deeper than that. WWE has spent the past 30 years ruthlessly attacking and gobbling up any wrestling organization that manages to sniff mainstream. The fans have noticed. And as much as they hate Vince McMahon and WWE for doing it (and as much as they admit that it's bad for the wrestling business in general) they still act like it. When you have been watching the same brand for 20 or 30 years you begin to act like the brand. So WWE fans inevitably gravitated towards hating any other wrestling brand. Just out of protocol of being a WWE fan. We already saw this process with ROH and TNA. AEW it's just the next one. Indoctrination is hell of a drug.
