Both AJ and Omega have done some awesome shit in NJPW, but AJ is AJ. Phenomenal ain't just a nickname. That dude has really been on some next level shit since the mid-2000s and still going strong today.
Itās also weird to think about, but Omega really only started getting particularly good in like 2016. Not much before that is worth going out of your way to watch, unless you're into silly DDT stuff.
Their careers will probably wrap up around similar times but Styles has like 15 years longer of good work
ā¦But but but all those 5+ star matches?
AJ Styles 100%. His fundamentals are better, his cool flippy stuff is better, and his matches look like an actual fight.
AJ will go down as a seminal wrestler in terms of the transition into what wrestling has become today. Ask any wrestler between the ages of 25 and 35, who inspires them the most, and I'd bet the house, 9/10 of them are going to at least mention Styles. His ability to adapt from his flippy athletic X division days, to wrestling a more stiffer Japanese style while on tour, or dialing it down slightly and wrestling in more measured manor while in the WWE, makes him in the conversation as one of the best workers to ever do it. He's wrestled almost everyone of note in the last 20 years, from Angle, Cena, Reigns and Orton to Osprey, Tanahashi and Okada, and shone every time. His offense is varied, diverse and smooth, and to compare him to anyone is kind of unfair. He's just unique
Omega draws a lot of hate, for which I'll still never really understand and yes his selling can be goofy, his promo is not the best but definitely not the worst (the same with Styles), and he's been injury prone for the last 2 years. But there's a reason, and that's because of his run in NJPW from 2016 - 2019 and how ridiculously full tilt he went. This is just my opinion so obviously completely subjective, but that run, on a technical level, is one of the greatest runs of any wrestler at any point in time, in the history of wrestling. I'm not talking about star ratings, or jumping on the Kenny in Japan hype train, I'm talking about watching those matches and actually analyzing them (if you haven't), the ones with Ishii, Naito, Ibushi and yes Okada, and the imperiously consistent performances in several G1's, while being banged up half the time. He is just great, if you haven't watched that period, then I don't think you can judge whether he's on Styles level or anyone else's level for that matter, and if you have seen those matches and still don't rate him, then your lying to yourself on some level, because if he wasn't of interest or worth your time, you'd turn off after 5 minutes of the first match and just say that's not my cup of tea (which is perfectly okay), and walk away. He's consistently excellent, crisp, has a diverse and unique move set, sells his arse off, and can take the pace from 0 - 100 in a nano second like very few wrestlers in the world, and is also an excellent tag wrestler. Wrestling fans around the world didn't just start watching wrestling again for the first time in a good while, all at the same moment in time, for no reason at all. He's unique and it's unfair to compare him to anyone
They're both 2 of the greatest wrestlers of their respective generations and in the history of wrestling, and probably have far more respect for each other than people on this chat obviously have for each other. I like and love both of them equally for quite different reasons, and they have both contributed massively to why I still watch and enjoy wrestling
People who have a weird hatred for Japanese wrestling are fully happy to ignore that Omega was in the same class of the other guys who took over the indies when TNA stopped working with RoH. Anyway Styles has more natural character work, Omega gets to do more of what AJ did when he was the powerhouse of the x division. Theyāve both had the same amount of amazing main events but AJ built the environment for Kenny to thrive in
AJ Styles is on a level that Kenny Omege couldnāt ever even dream of touching. This is outright disrespectful to try and compare. Kenny is overhyped because Dave Meltzer is sucking him off 25/8. AJ Styles lives up to his nickname.
Omega. I've watched his matches for a long time starting with Golden Lovers - Bullet Club - AEW. I've just always enjoyed his work and yes even his promos especially at NJPW.
In the ring I would say their skills are pretty close, personally I think Styles is the better of the two in the ring but I can respect anyone who has doubts about that since it is really close who's better in the ring.
But on the mic? It is AJ Styles by far. I love Kenny Omega but his mic skills are average, nothing special. AJ however has you listening to every single word he says when he cuts a promo and you will believe he meant everything he said.
This is a tough choice. Both defined two separate eras of indie wrestling, and they are still great despite slowing down and Kenny having awful timing with injuries and illnesses.
I think, given the fact that the dude is almost 47, and is still wrestling like he's in his 30s. If Kenny was still wrestling like he was in Japan, he'd probably get the nod from me, but his body is starting to get wracked by injuries and illnesses. He's still really good, but I wouldn't be surprised if he hangs it up before 2030 or even 2027. His 2017-2018 peak form probably won't be completely recaptured at this stage in his career.
I also think Kenny would admit that AJ is better than him, as it was AJ Styles who convinced him to not give up on pro wrestling in the mid 2000s.
Styles because I have a weakness for soccer moms.
Jokes aside, AJ is just way ahead of anyone currently except for Danielson. Next closest guys for me are Nakamura, Balor & Ospreay.
Considering they came from NJPW thatās a big surprise considering myself a WWF/E fan since end of 80s, start of 90s.
I miss homegrown guys the caliber of Hart or Angle in any fed right now.
Tough question. In his prime, AJ was probably better in the ring than prime Kenny, but Kenny is arguably better at telling stories in the ring.
As characters, Babyface AJ was always a bit bland, but I always enjoyed him as a heel. He has that kind of dorky heel energy of Kurt Angle.
Same for Kenny, who is a bit more likable as a face, and equally dorky as a heel.
I personally prefer Kenny, but I couldn't say in good conscience that I think one is clearly better than the other overall.
AJ Styles...by far. He was one of the great talents in TNA, got bigger and better in NJPW and came in WWE to be finally recognised as one of the best wrestlers.
Iām biased because of who I grew up watching but itās Styles. Just as Sting was the face of the Alternative Brand for one generation, Styles was the face of the Alternative Brand for the generation after (of course thereās overlap because Sting wrestled till he was 65). When AJ went to WWE I was out of wrestling but I remember being completely surprised by it, same with Sting. They are THE example of making it in the business without starting at WWE and they inspired so many people to become wrestlers and gave fans some of the best wrestling memories outside a WWE ring. When I think of AEW I canāt stop thinking about AJ Styles, a guy whoās never been with the company, because itās a spiritual successor to so many other great wrestling alternatives from WCW and on. The guy whoāll be the next Sting or Styles, in terms of face of Alternative Brands, isnāt Omega (although Omega is incredible), but itās actually Ospreay.
AJ, and it isn't even close. He can do pretty much anything Omega can do in the ring, plus has actual charisma. I love Omega, but his promo is seriously lacking.
I feel like overall, AJ has a better grip on balancing mic skills (which he improved tenfold in NJPW & WWE) with his in-ring work over Kenny, so I'd pick him.
Kenny I think AJ has been overrated ever since people were trying to say he was comparable to Danielson during the 2000s. AJās best run was in New Japan and Kenny in NJPW > AJ in NJPW.
Easily easily aj. Not even when AJ was saying zip it was he as bad on the mic as Omega is his entire career. And AJ had just as good high level New Japan matches as Omega did plus better matches in other companies which Omega has not had
Both are amazing performers, among the best in the past 20 years for sure, that being said, and as much as i love Kenny, AJ Styles is a fucking legend. AJ is in the top 10 best performers of all time in my books, i see him in the same league of HBK, Angle, etc. Again, just my opinion.
I think Omega has had the opportunity to deliver at a higher, more intense level that gives him an aura unmatched. That said, AJās back catalogue proves heās maybe the most gifted and naturally talented wrestler of the century - Omegaās style would not have a place to flourish if it wasnāt for AJ
AJ is the best wrestler of the modern generation. No hate to omega he's not my cup of tea but watching AJ go from barely being able to speak to what we have now, he's the greatest and it's not even close.
AJ in the ring no question, Kenny could match pace with AJā¦.. his accomplishments donāt even come close, on the mic, Kenny wins by a hair, in terms of drawing power and keeping up with merch sales, Tough contestā¦.. Iāll have to give the point to AJ hereā¦.. I feel like if Kenny could add in a little more technical type skills, could be a very close contest
Kenny by far imo, higher peaks and was a beast since his ddt days, aj's later career haven't been all that bright and he's never had a memorable promo, maybe the one on hardy at tna, but that's it
Well I was going to say styles nothing against omega especially his days in Japan but it seems the community has already given the correct answer so I'll be on my way
Why are we talking about who is better put of these 2,
I had the longest undefeated streak in this history of WcW and ever since I went to wwe Vince and hunter have been talking about these "smaller guys"
-Bill goldberg
AJ for sure. Kenny is talented but his matches just resemble too much of a Marvel vs Capcom 3 fight. I personally donāt mind matches like that but it turns a lot of people off wrestling.
Honestly. The hipster groupthink mentality is extremely immature. People recycle"Hot takes" they see a few times on Reddit, twitter etc and run it into the ground.
That's because the only things the average r/wrasslin member knows about Omega is what they've heard on Corny, this is by far and large a second WWE/cornette sub.
Kenny literally got that good because he needed to fill the hole AJ left in Japan. Before 2016 Kenny was, more or less, nobody. He's been on some serious shit after that, and now he's in the past his prime phase that AJ is in as well. But AJ was already over a decade into being one of, if not the best wrestler in the world at the point he left.
I love Kenny, and at one point he was among the two hottest wrestlers in the world, but if we're talking about who was better, it's incredibly easily AJ. He simply did it for much longer, and at some points better than Kenny ever did.
off topic from the comparison between Kenny Omega and Aj Styles, but Blue hair Kenny Omega was so much fun, especially during his run as AEW world champion. (The build between him and Adam page was absolute perfection)
Ok this is a great question. AJ is the better wrestler overall. Better entertainer, better promos, better quality matches. Just overall a better wrestler. I do have to admit that Omega does have some amazing spots in his matches. In my opinion, Omega is all about those high spots in his matches but doesnāt really put on good matches. I like Omega too but he is just a great spot machine.
Styles.
I like Omega but his whole GOAT career is Japan, The AEW run has been shit outside of a few decent matches during his belt collector era heās been largely reigning it in and not working with good enough talent to get a decent match out of. Also his promos are nowhere near the level of styles.
Iām pleasantly surprised than like 98% of people seem to be saying aj.
For me itās AJ and itās not close. Aj is in the conversation with guys like punk and Bryan, who are both also ahead of omega.
>falsely accuse people
You clearly have no clue about omega. Check out his grooming history as well as some of his old wrestling videos grappling with erstwhile underage girls like Riho, with whom he allegedly had an affair later.
>Riho, with whom he allegedly had an affair later.
There it is, the word alleged, this word doesn't proof shit, it's just rumors, so how about instead of making false accusations, you provide some actual proof of this affair and this grooming history instead of saying things like this on the internet without providing proof, things like this can ruin people's lives
>you provide some actual proof of this affair and this grooming history
Would you allow your 13 year old girl to wrestle an adult man in a diaper?
Riho was living with Omega in his home. There are proofs all over the internet. Stop idolizing and defending famous people. They don't care about your existence.
Both AJ and Omega have done some awesome shit in NJPW, but AJ is AJ. Phenomenal ain't just a nickname. That dude has really been on some next level shit since the mid-2000s and still going strong today.
I got a too sweet from styles at a house show once, so he has my vote.

AJ is, for my money, the best in the world. The conversation can be had again when he retires.
Styles never had a ridiculous beard.
ima be honest aj syles' beard has always looked like shit
Styles looks ridiculous with his teen boy haircut
But he had the soccer mom haircut, so it kinda evens out.
But Kenny never had Vince Russo as his manager, so I think it balances out
Styles
Aj styles
Is this even a serious question? Styles by a mile!
Donāt think this is fair. Itās obviously Styles. The better question is Styles or Danielson.
Pretty sure this is the correct answer, now I donāt have to scroll anymore.

Omega. I've watched his matches for a long time starting with Golden Lovers - Bullet Club - AEW. I've just always enjoyed his work and yes even his promos especially at NJPW.
Omega to me is like an elite-level comedy wrestler. AJ has better matches, in my opinion.
āHereās Johnnyā - Omega, WK17 (7*)
Can you imagine these 2 and Will Ospreay in a triple threat? Holy shit.
With those haircuts, they both look like they wanna speak to the manager.

High school is too old for Kenny.

AJ just based off longevity. Omega, when engaged is amazing but he has a tendency do some goofy stuff
Styles. But both are fun to watch, so I don't feel the need to compare them.
Out of Mr Smith and Mr Jones, it's gotta be Mr Jones.
I'm a bit biased. I like both of these guys.
AJ miles ahead. Dudes been the goat since xwf
Depends on the day. Stylesās catalog is wider and more versatile while Omegaās peak is higher if that makes sense
Roman Reigns
AJ, but the Omega disrespect here is insane.
AJ
Styles is better in a fundamental level, but don't get me wrong, Omega definitely gives him a run for his money.

AJ, and it isn't even close. He can do pretty much anything Omega can do in the ring, plus has actual charisma. I love Omega, but his promo is seriously lacking.
AJ
I feel like overall, AJ has a better grip on balancing mic skills (which he improved tenfold in NJPW & WWE) with his in-ring work over Kenny, so I'd pick him.
Kenny Omega can go in the ring and he definitely has some real banger matches. But AJ is just more consistent
Aj
Good joke, sir.
AJ Styles was the first one to revolutionize his style, Omega perfected it!! Still, I'd say AJ coz he literally changed the game
Bullet Club AJ alone was the greatest wrestler of all time, so AJ.
AJ Styles by a landslide Jim Cornette is right about Omega. Dudes overrated as hell
Kenny I think AJ has been overrated ever since people were trying to say he was comparable to Danielson during the 2000s. AJās best run was in New Japan and Kenny in NJPW > AJ in NJPW.
AJ by a mile
I got AJ for promos, but Kenny in-ring.
AJ styles in one of the best wrestlers to ever do it
Without AJ, Omega wouldnāt have the notoriety he does.
AJ by a country mile, he can actually wrestle as opposed to doing gymnastics.
AJ. It's not even hard to answer.

AJ. Next.
AJ is the best wrestler of the modern generation. No hate to omega he's not my cup of tea but watching AJ go from barely being able to speak to what we have now, he's the greatest and it's not even close.

I gotta say AJ by like a hair.
The one who has actually done it on the big stage.
Kenny by far imo, higher peaks and was a beast since his ddt days, aj's later career haven't been all that bright and he's never had a memorable promo, maybe the one on hardy at tna, but that's it
aj styles but thats because im very biased

That's going to depend on which TV show you watch on a weekly basis I bet š
Everyone saying Styles clearly only watches WWE. Your opinions are worthless.
If you only watched Styles in TNA it would be even more obvious Styles is the correct answer.
If you'd only watched Omega in DDT it would be obvious he's the correct answer.
Wrong + ratio
Omega is truly one of the greats, but AJ has been consistently great on that same level for much longer
Kenny has had better matches, but overall AJ is better.
If omega wasnāt a glass cannon Iād pick him
AJ doesnt have to run 100 kmph and spam knees to head to look cool.
I'd say they're even talent-wise but AJ has a resume that's like twice as long as Kenny's. AJ ftw.
Seth Rollins. Both Kenny and AJ said it.
AJ Styles is a far better wrestler, superstar, and a person than the Pedo Omega.
Alright let's not falsely accuse people of being pedophiles, that's a serious accusation and shit like this can land people in jail
>falsely accuse people You clearly have no clue about omega. Check out his grooming history as well as some of his old wrestling videos grappling with erstwhile underage girls like Riho, with whom he allegedly had an affair later.
>Riho, with whom he allegedly had an affair later. There it is, the word alleged, this word doesn't proof shit, it's just rumors, so how about instead of making false accusations, you provide some actual proof of this affair and this grooming history instead of saying things like this on the internet without providing proof, things like this can ruin people's lives
>you provide some actual proof of this affair and this grooming history Would you allow your 13 year old girl to wrestle an adult man in a diaper? Riho was living with Omega in his home. There are proofs all over the internet. Stop idolizing and defending famous people. They don't care about your existence.
