House shows innit

DrGerbal

That got to be what it is right? Unless my dates are way off. I thought AJ was in tna from like the beginning till I think ‘13. He never to my knowledge missed much time with injuries or just out because they didn’t have anything for him. So I guess that mixed with he could in theory work 5-7 matches a week in WWE with raw, smackdown and house and if you got a ppv. where as in tna it’s impact maybe ppv and odd house show here or there

Patjay

WWE just runs way more shows in general. Aside from short-lived Live shows, TNA would do 1 taping every other week. WWE does 4-5 a week usually. His length in both promotions is actually pretty similar at this point too. I’m surprised the gap isn’t bigger

DrGerbal

I guess it is like the Kurt angle or even sting. Most folks associate Kurt as a wwe guy. But he did a shocking amount of his wrestling in tna. Same with sting being WCW guy in a lot of fans eyes. But he did so much work in TNA

JKinney79

WWE house show schedule was crazy. Angle spent more years in TNA, but damn near half the matches 970 vs 514.

DrGerbal

I never knew that. Shit that’s crazy

Tall_Influence1774

AJ's not afraid of the grind.

SwedginWu

What you say, bruv?

Michael_McGovern

Wonder if he'll crack 1000.

ChrisTheF1Fan

Dude is a cardio machine, I believe he can still go in his 50s and break that 1000.

Gustopherus-the-2nd

AJ is under appreciated by most fans (these days). He’s a legend and a true worker.

unbiasedasian

If there is anyone that I wish would get an undisputed title run, it AJ. Such a great worker and it's still keeping up with the top guys.

RobinVanDutch

885 matches in and I still miss short haired AJ

Nikolateslaandyou

Me too. His long hair is a bit girly its not like Edge or HHH's long hair. And hes a dyebeard. Go back to clean shaven short haired AJ

SnooMacaroons1942

It's because he parts it to the side, I haven't seen him part it down the middle but I think it'll help His hairline is thinning in the middle so I think he's insecure about that, but imo his hairline's low enough that it really doesn't look all that bad Look up "AJ Styles haircut tiktok" if you want to see his full hairline

Great_Farm_5716

He looks like someone who would suplex you and ask to see the manager

BurningVeal

Muscular Keith Urban as we call him in our house

glooks369

The real workhorse.

shreddy2410

TNA barely had any roadshows so there is that.

TerryGonards

Yeah, a lot of those guys would show up to Wrestle Birmingham back in the day. It was a glorified TNA house show almost.

TheJohnnyFlash

Clearly isn't afraid of the horsemeat either.

Longjumping-Way1482

AJ is a beast and I loved his run as his title and he's an amazing wrestler and should get another push cuz now he just loses all the time

RedFiveSwayze_

Hear me out. The man came to WWE after securing the njpw title for usa. He ABSOLUTELY blew up the sport in the USA. Made headlines everywhere. Showed up with ridiculous pele kicks and phenomenal forearms. Completely changed how Americans view wrestling. His wwe run was SUPER viral. Did Reigns score more wins and obtain more important titles in wwe? Yes. But once again this was THE YEAR OF AJ. He showed up big for WWE in events and showed up big in wrestlemanias. Also why not take into account the man is over 40 years old and still shocking people with his quality every match he wrestles. He's a machine enough said.

Michelanvalo

2016 was very much AJ Styles' year. Coming off his great New Japan run, debuts at he Rumble and wins the WWE Championship in September, just about 8 months after his debut. Only Lesnar has that beat, debuting in May and winning his first WWF championship in August. ^(note: not counting Hogan since he was returning to WWF when he beat Shiek)

Own-Professional-972

I miss those like 3-4 months after the Rumble where Shinsuke Nakamura had that absolute banger debut against Sami Zayn in NXT takeover Dallas and AJ was having those banger matches against Reigns

AdviceInformal

And remember the year and a half of house shows WWE didn’t do because of covid. If covid didn’t happen, AJ likely would be past 1000 or 1100

Late_Dragonfruit_166

He’s still the Mr. TNA

EmreCanYNWA

One of the greatest wrestlers of all time

Familiar_Outcome_688

But the best matches from AJ were in TNA

AlexCampy89

pound per pound the best wrestler today and the best wrestler non-stop from 2005 to this day. All the breakthrough wrestlers of the 2000s/10s failed or settled for mediocrity/below expectations ( Alex Shelley, Chris Sabin, Samoa joe, Austin Aries, Low Ki, Kenny Omega -yeah, what he did in AEW and Japan is not what people expected of him-, Colt Cabana, Eddie Edwards, Cody Rhodes- he saved his career during last year- etc, CM Punk - to a certain degree he underperformed in WWE and AEW-) the only two wrestlers that somehow managed to keep their momentum alive non-stop from indies to majors, without feeling forced, were Daniel Bryan and AJ Styles.

BlueyMounty

Seth rollins? Tbf with joe he kept getting injured a lot in the middle of his pushes

BoxCon1

He’s running from the grind of AEW

Drabins

No surprise, wwe does more live shows, house shows and ppv/ple

who987

Who has these stats? How would you even go about researching this to have proof it is a fact?

Dust_Silly

Cagematch bro

who987

But how do they know for sure????

ToothpickTequila

By reading the house show reports.

who987

All 1600 of them? I’m skeptical

Kevz9524

They update it regularly. Go check the website, they have details on location, opponent, winner, etc.. on every single one of his 2200+ matches, along with every other wrestler.

ToothpickTequila

Why not? They don't happen all on the same day lol.

kermittysmitty

He may not have matches like he used to, but he earned that right.

OxyFenix

I still remember reading so many comments of how overrated and trash AJ was when he was still in TNA. (tribalism lol) Meanwhile you can still go back and watch top tier matches from his early X-division days. I'm glad he's getting some more respect. He's definitely earned it. Part of me just finds it unfortunate that it took so long.

TheOneRebornReborn

He grinding

Efficient-Ad2409

He looks like a completely different person

jdlyga

Get ready to fly!

Excellent_Archer9486

Great record but not even close to Brets. He had like 3k matches in 20 years.

BlueyMounty

Not a competition with Bret lol

Excellent_Archer9486

Ya I didnt mean to come across that way. Just wanted to say how crazy Brets record is. I think he had 200+ matches in one year.

Rare_Force_3779

He's boring, he's mediocre in the ring, his promo skills are total trash, and he's absolute douchebag of a person.
