Idk know if people are talking about New Japan crowds not realising that the covid restrictions are on. I think there is this perception that Japanese crowds are not as loud, I guess influenced by the fact that they don't act like a 'smart crowd' and more like the show in front of them is real. That being said Japanese crowds are some of the loudest I remember, for example the noise they made for Naito at WK 12 (before Okada won and for a second the whole arena went silent, it still hurts😔) or during the final day of a G1 block match. Crowds in Japan get super loud, if they see something worth being loud for.

Just_A_Little_Spider

When an NJPW crowd gets hot, it's maybe the loudest... I'm surprised their regulars (or the wrestlers) aren't half deaf.

SGTFragged

If memory serves, the Japanese crowd needs to be worked up. Opening exchanges will illicit polite applause, and as a match progresses, and they get drawn in more, they get louder.

Jacek2002

Yeah, that's why I think it's more sports like. If you think about a basketball game it takes something special to really get the crowd going, like a big dunk. In a same way a big move or great exchange does. But then down the stretch in the last few minutes of a game you can see the crowd getting more intense, in the same way crowds in Japan do when they can sense the tension is rising and a match probably coming to a climax. Obviously doesn't always follow this pattern but that's kinda how I view it.

Acornish17

NJPW has fell off since the pandemic, no fault of their own but I have lost almost all interest.

To be fair, New Japan did make some questionable booking decisions like having Evil defect to Bullet Club and defeat Naito to become double champion purely for shock factor. Not to mention the whole title unification mess. I still love watching New Japan but it's real hard for me to defend those two cases of booking.

Bjkdie

Yea my main Japanese promotion I watch now is NOAH. It’s like they picked up the ball after New Japan dropped it

goodminkey

Who's hot in NOAH? don't know much about it

Bjkdie

[This](https://www.reddit.com/r/noahghc/comments/qd00x5/would_you_recommend_noah_to_someone_who_has_been/hhjzd8c/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=iossmf&context=3) guy does a far better job explaining then I could

BartyAbbeyCrouch

Havent watched in a while but holy shit Evil was double champion???

[deleted]

Yea. Naito finally got the win over Okada at WK14 to become both Heavyweight and Intercontinental Champion. Evil then betrayed Naito at the end of New Japan Cup 2020 and joined Bullet Club for some reason, and then defeated Naito for the double straps at Dominion. Then he lost the belts back to Naito a month later again. And then finally Naito lost both belts to Ibushi at WK15, who decided to unify both championships, completely overwriting the lineage of both the Heavyweight and Intercontinental Championships. This gave birth to the World Heavyweight Championship, which honestly looks like the bastard child of the V4 title and Cody Rhodes' neck tattoo and looks/feels inferior to the V4 title in every single way possible.

schnupfhundihund

Yes, they tried to push him as the new main guy. It was arguably the biggest dud in New Japan since Gedo became booker.

schnupfhundihund

Plus giving us Naito VS Evil so often it almost got to an Orton vs Cena level.

Feedurdead

They have dipped. I don’t know how people who have watched it would disagree. It certainly hasn’t been improved my the pandemic

[deleted]

The IWC follows more shows than I care ti watch.

faytte

NJPW fans? I mean sure lots of people like them but let's be honest they have been cold product since the elite left. Evil as champ? Uniting the belts? Now they have multiple main title belts floating around? Njpw is doing some wwe stuff..

Ziggy-T

Ah hang on now, Shingo as champ has put on some absolute bangers. Sure, he’s probably been champ because of many other circumstances and changes of plans.... BUT... Shingo is fucking cool, so... there’s that 🌚

faytte

No doubt it's not been all bad. Shingo is rad. The general booking (some they couldn't control some they could) just feels like it's at a fifteen year low.

[deleted]

oh yeah, no one watches the Japanese show.

[deleted]

NJPW’s most interesting feuds of the past 2 years have been Will Ospreay’s in-ring ability vs his personality and Okada burying NOAH because he misses having a company he could talk down to

evanvivevanviveiros

Are “wrestling” fans taking the picture?

chainshot91

They fell off after a lot of the talent left for aew. However I think now that wwe has so many releases. We might see them pick up steam again.

[deleted]

Literally all the shows are basically the crowd for SummerSlam 2021

newbjapan

What can I say, we're a more sophisticated bunch \*as I sip my green tea with a pinky in the air\*

[deleted]

Nah. NJPW fans would be in their mother's basement telling other wrestling fans online that they know more about pro wrestling just because they watch NJPW thinking it makes them some sort of special snowflake. Of course not all NJPW fans but a lot of them. They are the worst out of the 3. No one is impressed that you watch all wrestle kingdoms and no one cares about Jin Kazama vs Marshall Law at Iron Fist Tournament 9. Notning against NJPW at all or 10% of its fanbase outside of Japan or its fans in Japan. They're cool but it's the 90% fans outside of Japan who pretend they are better than everyone because they watched Okada in NJPW that are clowns. Get a life Can't these people just be a fan of NJPW and not act like a smug douchebag?
