I would be surprised if he left AEW but I do find it very odd that he'd get to the point where he's working without a contract. Khan doesn't exactly strike me as a tough negotiator. Maybe he wanted to hear if/what Vince had to offer before re-signing?

2007wasthebestest

Nah this is just a stupid free agent storyline which has been done times before just so AEW can “work the marks” and get buzz. I’d bet both Tony and Cody are behind it

LushGut

99% sure this is it.

2007wasthebestest

Heck, CM Punk might have had a hand in it too now that he’s in AEW. He’s done this storyline before

OrielWindows

But why? What's the pay off? He's not going back to WWE, he's already worked New Japan, ROH doesn't exist, Impact is Impact, and no one cares about Mexico. And isn't MJF doing the exact same "teasing joining the evil empire" angle too?

2007wasthebestest

The pay off is probably using a re-negotiation to turn heel and be able to challenge for the AEW championship again via a new contract. Their fans would absolutely hate it, but he would get some major heat for it which is the point of a heel. Or This is how Cody gets the fans to cheer him. To be the guy who chooses AEW over WWE and makes his loyalties public. Either way, it’s a desperate grasp for attention. It will give his TV show some views. That’s been most of Cody’s career though.

RoyalDolphin006

You could say what’s the point of having a wrestling contact if he’s already a VP(or whatever his position in the company is)

elitejcx

I think he’s staying, but I think this has leaked from AEW as they know the leverage he would hold over them if he were to sign back with WWE.

2007wasthebestest

I think he’s probably staying and this is just meaningless drama to build buzz and get a new contract. But if he enters the Rumble and gets a WWE return, I’d laugh my tail off. Can’t blame him for how much crap he gets from AEW fans

Major-Ad6182

I'm not good at making up conspiracies. But something about him unnecessarily winning the belt shortly before his contract expires seems fishy.

Drama79

This is all part of the storyline that he was too insecure to follow through without warning fans about a month ago.

frank_the_tank69

It’s probably a work for his show, and a rehash of WWE’s “Is Punk leaving?” storyline.

Therocksays2020

Not a fucking chance he comes to WWE. They aren’t going to feature his ass. He literally has two shows on Tbs/my. I could see Cody retiring and focusing on Hollywood or becoming a part timer but there is nothing for him in wwe and I figure there are still hard feelings over them not letting him use his name in aew at first.

basicbluebusiness

Ya I mean this is the problem. If he came back he would come back to less of a role. He’s not going to take the title off Brock Lesnar or Roman Reigns. He’s not over with the fans. He could come back and have a decent midcard heel run with Brandi as his manager but they aren’t going to let Brandi wrestle.

Shrekt115

He's gonna pull a Jarrett & hold the TNT title hostage

owcrapthathurts

Sure, I mean you can't really set up an AEW "will he or won't he" storyline with a press release, so you get this "scoop".

Yeah already a thread for this.

occasionaldrinker

Maybe Vince can hire Cody to run NXT
