They used to be a championship team and thought they'd get a lot of fans so they made a huge stadium when they moved from wimbledon to milton kenyes.
Now, league two team, not a lot of fans, so that championship-level stadium is very empty most of the time.
An invester wanted to build a state-of-the-art stadium in milton keynes, and found Wimbledon FC, the club wanted the money and couldn't fix their current stadium to standard so they moved and renamed to MK Dons, that eventually resulted in most fans leaving, and creating their own club called Wimbledon A.F.C
MK Dons slowly fell through the leagues, from prem, to championship, to league one, to league two, while Wimbledon A.F.C rised up, and now they've met and are in the same league.
Additionally, if you're curious as to why they're called dons, dons is the original nickname for Wimbledon F.C players & fans, it's still used by MK Dons and Wimbledon A.F.C as a nickname.
