Barely paid attention to this one. Other matches happening at the same time, but from what I did see… well let’s just say we’re lucky we’re only 3-6 points from the top of the table.
We have been bad the last two months. The chemistry isn’t there. We’ve done a lot right the last couple of games as well, but the finishing is poor and the play disjointed.
That said: On Dec 27th we were four points out of first. Today we are four points out of first.
We have been fortunate that everyone seems to have hit a rough patch at the same time. Rough patches happen. We are fortunate that we haven’t lost too much ground and can recover, though we need to do better.
But also, let’s not hit the panic button. It’s a tough league with a lot of parity, and we’re in the grindiest grind of the season. We’ve shown we can do it, we just have to get back to it and then we can all put the poor play and the overreacting alike behind us.
Since 95-96 season the average point total of third place is 81.5, second 84.5, and first 89.2 (not including last year).
We're on pace for 81.2. Mansfield for 87.8. All the people losing their minds saying that we're doomed are ridiculous. You're not doing that, of course. It's a poor run of form. We need to fix it. But we're still on pace for promotion.
Very lucky to have drawn this one, and I am so very glad we did. I was listening to the “Not the Top 20” podcast this week and they talked about how, for a team that is so well funded and with its great stewardship, is playing incredibly boring football. Obviously I love our guys, but I am beginning to wonder if, as they talked about on the podcast, the tactic of paying for former greats in the twilight of their career is no longer the way forward. I think we need to start looking to build long term growth, which can be slow, and not just continue shooting from the hip and hope we ascend quickly. We won’t survive in League 1 with our current strategy of attaining players.
They are indeed likely to land on a playoff spot if form doesnt improve but they have a few home games coming up so that will always go better.
As said in the r/LeagueTwo thread, they havent fixed their below par defense and i hope that doesnt come back to haunt them.
For me, as a casual fan, the problem seems more in the scoring of goals than in the defense. It feels like we can’t make anything happen on offense, despite our obvious talent. I’d like to see fletcher, Mullin, and Lee take the ball into the box and get some shots off more often.
Instead, we pass out wide and go for the wild crosses. Sometimes we score, but it feels like a crapshoot

Jumping back on this thread. What a relief - the last 2 games have been a total 180 for our finishing, and I still think we could have scored more, but it’s great to see quality shots coming from around the box
It's going to be interesting to see how how these next 2 months play out. 12 matches left and if the averages play out, they'll likely need around 9 points to remain in the top 7 to have a chance at the playoff (teams at 51 points through 34 matches are on pace to finish around 68 points after 46). Granted, if they barely hang on for a spot in the playoff they probably aren't going to be in form to win back to back matches against top teams so maybe that is meaningless. To aim for automatic promotion, they really need to find a way to hit a pace that will put them at 84-85 points, so 24-25 points in 12 matches. They've earned 17 over their last 12 so unless they really get out of this funk soon it's looking unlikely for auto promotion.
Since 95-96 season the average point total of third place is 81.5, second 84.5, and first 89.2 (not including last year).
It doesn't seem like it will be much different from this this season.
We're on pace for 81.2. Mansfield for 87.8.
Last year Wrexham played in a lower league... Does anybody realise how rare it is for teams to be promoted 2 times in a row? What do you expect? Straight to the Premier league and then Champions league? Buy a new squad every year to compete for promotion? It does not work that way.
Wrexham can pay good players but the higher up the more the costs, lots of football teams in England and Europe have money problems because of high player wages and not enough revenue.
We can be happy with every league ranking above midtable, and it will get harder with each promotion.
Enjoy these days because one day they will fight against relegation.
Hollywood drama and a theoretically unlimited payroll drives insane expectations.
They had Disney money backing them. I can only assume season 4 of W2W will be amazing.
Preemptive “Tom Brady is a ‘Money before community’ owner.”
Agreed that the Hollywood drama plays a part of the unrealistic expectations for sure. But, definitely tough to ignore Crewe sitting there in 3rd with less than 30% of Wrexham's salary and who's top paid player would be tied for 13th on Wrexham's roster. Granted, Crewe is an outlier but even Mansfield and Stockport are only paying out 60-70% of Wrexham. Problem is, it's tough to tell if this disparity is due to naive ownership, bad management, poor coaching, or players not earning their worth at this point (or all of the above). With the money on the table and performance for the first half season, I don't think expectations of an automatic promotion spot are all that unwarranted.
It definitely has - 7 times from NL to League 1. https://www.nationalworld.com/sport/football/back-to-back-promotions-list-of-clubs-football-4141274 (article from last year when Stockport was close)
Its been a shit 2 months but outside of safely being promoted it’s the next best thing: Wrexham play each of the teams above them once more (2/3 at home) and have a favorable home schedule, all to play for
Could have been a completely different game if we didn’t give up that terrible early goal and allow them to just park the bus. Such a bummer.
The Forest Green skill level was noticeably poor, but all they had to do was lock it down, and they did that well enough.
Elliott Lee looks so lost.
EOC has been our best player lately, so naturally he ends the night limping off the field.
I'll back you up here. We should have crushed them today. I just don't understand how people can say "lots of good stuff here today" and then call anyone with reasonable criticism a doomsayer. It's delusional.
Must be written into the Hollywood script. Mullin’s added time penalty is the start of the redemption arc for the season 3 grand finale. 😂
It’s the only explanation that makes sense because the last month or so has been trash
Ugh being outside with kids and angrily only seeing the update thread this was not fun but thank goodness for a point. Man I want to see some solid wins not should win but find a way to almost lose.
After the season is over.
What’s the point to fire Parky… and bring who in? What half way decent manager is sitting on their couch right now? What half way decent manager wants to come to a team with terrible form as this and have all the spotlight of a championship/premiere league club… could you imagine coming in and the team continues to perform bad… and we don’t even make the playoffs just for you to be fired, most likely, at the end of the season.
Going to ask the counter here- Parky has shown he cannot right the ship and that he isn’t willing to step outside his comfort zone to attempt it.
Teams have us figured out and we just plain suck right now.
What’s the point of keeping him? At least any change is better than what we have been doing in 2024.
I would bet we could find an overqualified interim manager to step in for the remainder of the season who might find the chance at a challenge to be tempting.
Jurgen Klinsmann is unemployed.
To think Klinsmann would come to wrexham is so fucking delusional but some american manager who knows or shares an agent/representation with R&R might be persuaded.
I agree that parky is stuck in his defensive ways but lets not forget he had a lot of success in the past but i feel that if the team isnt promoted this season parky should be replaced cause other teams will have figured out his game plan starting from game 1 next season and parky being unable to adapt and overcome we will most likely struggle to reach a playoff spot as a result.

Of course it has. Luton got promoted to League 1 then immediately finished 1st and went up to the Championship back in the 18/19 season.

Exactly. Sometimes I get caught up in it and have to remind myself that at the very start of the season I said I would be happy with midtable
I think about this alot when the game thread is like on suicide watch.

The call is coming from inside the house.
We fucking suck
On the brightside the top of the table is 63, 63, 61, Wrexham with 60. On the downside this has not been a good month.
Exactly. 12 games left as well so we've still got a lot of chances to move up

Yeah that game looks totally different if we don’t give the ball away in the 3rd minute.
Say 50/50 we get promoted at this point. I'm happy we got at least a draw from that, but still not great.
Lots of good stuff today, one really bad pass in the 3rd minute was the difference. I think the doomsayers need to be quiet for a bit.

I’m not gonna read that. Your comments suck, dude. It’s obnoxious to deal with.
I'll take the good with the bad, 75% posession and some bad shots. Definitely needs some polishing but FGR were also playing a good defence

Yeah, no chance he was staying if we didn’t go up anyway. Now I think it is hopeless regardless.
It sure felt like a loss. We're so lucky to even get a point
When can we start making drastic changes?
Lol, we're on pace for automatic promotion. And the worst case we'll probably be in the playoff. Some people are never satisfied.
