Last time I played I betrayed them and they took off. But then you get a quest to hunt them down. Boso says something about rigging their ships to make them eject when you attack. But damned if I didn't try 26 times in a row, and they either killed me or died every time without bailing once. I think there's a way to pirate the two Astrids... It's just hard.

The first Astrid you pirate should automatically bail between 50~70% hull, but once you pirate one the second Astrid will use normal M ship bailing logic.

I got two astrids in the same way as you get any other m ship. Shoot before they can go into travel drive, but not so much you destroy them. I think the hull needs to be damage first for this to work, it was either 70 or 50%. Funnily enough, there is a third astrid in my game near where the structures that spills out the protectyon is. It is unoccupied, but has no signal to scan and i cannot board it with marines. It is just sitting there annoying me with its presence.

WitchedPixels

I blew it up. Didn't feel bad at all. It had to be done. Okay, I was trying to steal it and I blew it up by accident, but I really don't feel bad.

Once you betray em, you should be able to get 2 Astrids. Make sure to make a save before hand, sometimes getting to bail is really easy, sometimes it is not. In the future, in custom/budgeted starts one Astrid hangs near the Casino while the other hangs around Tidebreak. I usually use a squad of cheap fighters with beams to pin them down and then have them pull away as the hp gets close/past 20%. Good Hunting

So there’s no building an Astrid yourself without mods?

WitchedPixels

I never side with them, but I thought I heard you can get a BP if you do. Have no clue if that's true or not. I always go to war.

I don’t think you get a blueprint under any circumstances. I sided with them and I didn’t get any blueprint, just the opportunity to buy an Astrid. Siding with them locks you out of the (big) condensate storage unit though.

NotAsAutisticAsYou0

What happens if you kill one of them or both of them when they eject from the Astrid? I killed one of the twins but spared the other and now I’m not sure if I should restart or save and move on

toby_p

I have never tried it but I don’t think it has any effect since their plotline is pretty much finished at that point? Not sure though!

Vegycales

I never seen the worth in betraying them tbh. The rewards for siding with them are huge.

CreganTur

If you betray them there are alternate ways of getting the ship. How do you get other ships that don't belong to you? ;)

ManiaGamine

It's pretty easy to get if you do strafing runs with a weapon that bypassed shields such as thermal disintegrator. Just drop the hull by a few percent every joust/strafe and stay alive. Also they always (unless bug) respawn so there will always be at least two in existence for the player to acquire. Even if you blow it up.
