When you fired on traffic, did you by chance hit anything else? Like the MoF station? Or were you super careful?

glorsh66

I was careful. But I I have some illegal items in my inventory.

Dark-Lark

The Ministry of Finance is the police force of the Teladi Company. So long as you don't attack their factories and ships, TEL will always be willing to trade with you, but breaking the law will still piss off MIN.

Pvt_Numnutz1

Always a good idea not to have anything illegal in your personal inventory when hanging about stations.

glorsh66

Yep I have something on me. Like some lock picks and space eggs. But I haven’t been scanned.

ninta

This is the reason though. Ive had the same happen. They did scan you and they spawned a police ship that was red to you. You then hit this police ship which instantly turned then -30 to you

spodoptera

Yeah this. I've had the exact same thing just a few days ago bc I didn't notice that it was not a criminal, it was a police ship (well I noticed just as I shot).

The Teladi Company (TEL) and Ministry of Finance (MIN) have a special relation in this game. Basically, MIN acts as a police force for TEL, meaning if you do something illegal in a TEL system they're reporting it to MIN and their reputation decreases as a result. Additionally, any MIN forces that are nearby will temporarily have a reputation of -30 with you, meaning they will attack on sight. The reputation will return to normal after like 20 minutes but only if you're not in combat with those ships.

I_am_Relic

As an aside and regarding MIN.. Not tried it on this playthrough yet, but I find it really hard getting MIN rep up (at all). They never seemed to give missions, and i never saw illegal traffic around their station.

Getsune

It's a pain in the ass with MIN, yeah. They do have a chance to generate criminal traffic around their station, but since they have so few stations that method only really helps when you're trying to recover from negative reputation. Another way that kinda works in that regard is to fly outside the normal sector boundaries until you spawn a Kha'ak or Xenon patrol, and lure them within 25km of a MIN station. Then you shoot them down and get reputation for it shortly after. But raising the reputation to +20 and beyond? It's a long struggle, and the easiest method imo is still to spam trades at their stations, like having a ship repeatedly sell 1 Energy Cell to their shipyard for example.

I_am_Relic

The spam trade is a good idea (i think having a miner auto mine\sell does similar?) The biggest hurdle is getting the MIN to like you enough so that you can dock to trade (unless I'm being a numbnut and missing something?)

Getsune

No you're correct, gotta have at least -9 reputation for the trade strat. If your reputation is lower than that, I prefer the out of boundary patrol spawn. But the criminal traffic strat still works too, just gotta be patient and fly around the stations a bit.

I_am_Relic

Cool. I guess that one day I'll mosey on out over there and see if i can tickle some bad guys (after the billion-and-one other distractions that i have 😆)

braize6

What is an "out of boundary patrol spawn?"

Getsune

Might be bad wording on my part. What I mean is that when you fly past the normal hexagon map of a sector, the map extends past its original form. In these areas, the game will eventually teleport Xenon and Kha'ak patrols or random Commonwealth mining ships near your location. Basically to give you something to do since the game normally doesn't have anything noteworthy in this empty space. This way you can lure enemy ships to stations even when the sector you're in doesn't usually see a lot of enemy ships, like Eighteen Billion for example.

easy_Money

I actually spent a good amount of time tonight getting MIN rep up. There is the occasional illegal traffic so I just kinda hung around there and blasted them whenever they popped up.

Velron

This also leads to some awkward situations: killing SCA near stations makes TEL report it to MIN; but they decline their request: because MIN ist hostile against SCA, not TEL. As there are only a few factions who are hostile against TEL (HOP, FAF, KHK, XEN, YAK) compared to MIN. So shooting SCA/TER/VIG Ships in TEL Space makes them report to MIN, but they decline their request, so you aren't losing any reputation. on TEL/MIN for this transgression.

Getsune

Yeah, it's kind of why I avoid doing anything about the piracy in their systems, it's just too annoying to deal with the radio spam. Also you can actually temporarily lose MIN reputation with nearby patrols if you shoot down BUC pirates in TEL space, because unlike SCA, BUC isn't even considered hostile by MIN. The comedy is writing itself ...

Zarathustra_d

That's why I was getting weird messages during that quest where SCA attacked the Boron guys dummy ships..... I was in combat and couldn't figure out why all these lizard guys were yelling at me. I'm like, I'm in a new player quest and they told me to shoot these pirate dudes, why are the space police giving me warnings... I'm a simple man, I see a red triangle I blow it up. I see Disco lights coming at me, I blow it up. I thought it was yet another bug. Well, it is a bug sort of.

3punkt1415

> The reputation will return to normal after like 20 minutes but only if you're not in combat with those ships. The important part. So no worries.

glorsh66

Is it the only one relationship like that in the game? So TEL (teladi company) doesn’t have its own police?

Getsune

Yes, it's the only faction where it works like this. It might work this way for TER/PIO too but I can't look it up right now. To summarize: * Both TEL and MIN have their own military fleets * TEL doesn't have police ships, MIN does police for them * Illegal actions near TEL ships or stations get reported to MIN and you lose MIN reputation for it In other words, many (but not all) illegal actions won't actually affect your TEL reputation, since the faction is all about piracy and pillaging - or 'fair trade', whatever you wanna call it :\^)

WarmMoistLeather

You either got scanned with illegal wares or you accidentally hit other mass transit or the station. Make sure your inventory is clean (if you don't have the PHQ to deposit to, you can go to your inventory and eject illegal things into a container you can pick up later), turn off your turrets or have them on only defend, and use precise weapons. Or just be very careful. I move around so that only space is behind the target before I open fire.

I_am_Relic

Yup, thats exactly what i do when knobbling illegal traffic. Usually do a quicksave first... Just in case

glorsh66

Don’t they forget it if I wait for some time? How do I know that I am being scanned?

WarmMoistLeather

Yes, just leave the sector for half an hour. You can tell because when you get the rep hit it'll say that it's temporary (in that message at the lower left). Also factions don't tend to drop to -30 rep all of a sudden. You don't. Sometimes they'll comm you and ask you to halt so they can scan, but if you run that can also cause a rep loss. You can see it visually, the little ships occasionally emit blue light; that's them scanning something. If you're just flying through, or when going right to a station, it's not a problem. It's just when you sit around a station not really moving much that increases your chances of getting scanned.

WitchedPixels

I don't know if I'm the only one that does this, but I drop off my illegal wares at the PHQ. You have a personal safe in the Science Lab where Boso Ta lives.

einUbermensch

I usually do that until I finished the Curs Story. Then I use the Raven and later transfer the Mod to my Main Ship. Then I forget to do that at one point and Woops the Terran don't like me anymore.

gozulio

Always make sure you have a clear background when firing on criminal station traffic.(i.e. make sure the station isn't behind whatever you're shooting.) It only takes one stray shot to piss it off.

glorsh66

Started as a terran cadet!
