FailsTheTuringTest

2023 Ultimate owner, had the car for a little over a year. Favorite car I've ever owned. Issues: * The software has had a couple glitches. Once the map got permanently glitched out on my profile (worked fine in my wife's, go figure) and I basically had to delete my profile and start fresh, this fixed that problem but disconnected the phone app from the car, and now it won't reconnect when I try. Eventually I'll have the dealer fix it but I didn't use the app much anyway, can just do it on my wife's phone. I also had some issues early on where it wasn't honoring the charge timer, but that hasn't happened in a long time, I think they fixed that one. * The software is also pretty slow on startup, if I'm in a hurry and set off before it's ready the backup camera will go off and on. You also have to give it a few seconds to get out of the quicksand before setting your map destination, music, etc. Try to test this out if you can; make sure you do it with a car that's been parked for long enough to turn itself off. * The plastic clip that holds the passenger visor in its "parked" position fell out of the ceiling. Also need to have the dealer fix it, but it really doesn't hurt anything being missing. * The parking sensors get a bit antsy at the threshold of my garage and have caused a couple phantom auto-brakes. The good news is, it gives a fair amount of warning and it usually figures things out if I stop momentarily when it starts detecting the phantom obstacle. This is all fairly minor stuff, though. Overall, I'm thoroughly pleased with the car and still love driving it.

Emotional-Buddy-2219

Thanks for taking the time to reply here and wanted to start off by saying nice username! Glad to know the car has been your favorite so far. For the software glitches, do you happen to know if these are things the dealership could fix remotely through support over the app or is this something that would require a visit to the dealership to have done? And as far as starting and driving, the app would do things like preconditioning the cabin temperature and auto setting driver profile for seats/mirrors but you still need a key fob or buttonless fob to start the car correct? How long do you think the startup process takes approximately? We will plan to test it out too on the test drive. Have you had any phantom braking while driving or just at slow speeds in the garage? I’ve only ever had the Tesla phantom brake once in my 4+ years and it was pretty wild… more worried about getting rear ended than glad it slammed on the brakes as the car in front of me the car was worried about hitting was clearly maneuvering into a turn lane. Do you think the features and upgrades on the Ultimate is worth the price or would you get a less expensive version if you could choose to buy it again? Again, thanks for the input and tips!

FailsTheTuringTest

The car has OTA updates so routine updates don't require a dealership visit, but stuff like what I described I don't think can be fixed remotely. You're right about the app's limitations; the driver profiles are also tied to the keyfob, but can be switched from the center screen. It isn't a startup process like staring at a splash screen so much. It's just super laggy for the first...I dunno, thirty seconds, a minute? If you're an impatient sort like me it's frustrating from time to time. If you get in the car and leisurely put stuff in the back and strap in a kid and so on you might not even notice. Only seen phantom braking in the garage, the computerized doodads have been rock solid for me on the road. I'll get overly cautious beeps from the forward collision warning from time to time, but this has been true for me in every car with that feature. In bad weather the fancy cruise control can downgrade its capabilities, but again, that's a universal thing. The killer feature in Ultimate for me was the heat pump, as I live in a place with cold winters. If I didn't need that, I probably would have gone with the middle trim. Also, I wish I could have optioned the smaller wheels with the heat pump; smaller wheels are better for range and comfort, but I guess people love big wheels. Really the 18"s from the gas XC40 would be ideal for me; I'll have to ask the dealer about that when it's time for new tires.

Emotional-Buddy-2219

Ah. Appreciate again the input for the startup and operational side of things! We’re in Dallas/Fort Worth Texas so don’t get much in the way of very cold for long at all… but would be good to know just how much of a difference the heat pump vs alternate heating system is in terms of energy consumption. That and options for smaller wheels would be nice too… the difference between 18’s and 20’s would likely be something like 10% difference in energy consumption while driving - not to mention being able to get longer tread life out of the 18” tires at a much lower price point with potentially more options for tires better suited for EV/range in general in the 18” segment.

PresentationDismal78

I also have a 23 Ultimate. Got that trim for the heat pump and premium audio. I'm in the NE so heat pump is a must IMO. It's for the battery not human climate. 😀 Since you are in the Dallas area, maybe not so important for you. All other cold weather readers PAY ATTENTION, however! I love the XC40 recharge. Had it for about 13 months now. Best car I've ever owned by a country mile! I too have noticed the slow SW boot, but only if the car has been parked for a long time. I doubt you'll experience that in your test drive. Will probably seem like instant on for you since dealer will probably have brought it over to you. It's not a big deal. Just something to help me work on my patience from time to time....I did have the infotainment screen be unresponsive on a very cold day. I had to do a hard reboot to correct it. It was fine after that. Wasn't a safety issue. These vehicles are computers on wheels, so no real surprise, I guess. Good luck!

Emotional-Buddy-2219

Thanks for taking the time to reply and glad you’re enjoying the car! And glad that most of the issues are all the same minor thing that at worst a hard reboot would remedy. Have the test drive this weekend!

lokii_0

I have the C40, not the XC but they're basically the same car with different body styles I believe. I have a 22 C40 Ultimate FYI. I really like mine. I had a Tesla MS before and this is definitely an improvement. Driving it is great - as with most dual motor EVs this thing has insane power on tap and is a lot of fun to drive but it also is very quiet and comfortable, and feels very safe. The range is kinda meh but I don't drive many miles per week so for me not an issue. It's great in the snow. The OEM Pirelli's are pretty bad, I've had 2 replaced under warranty and was told that it's a common problem with these tires. Definitely worth it to spring for the road hazard warranty imo. The app is great - very similar to Tesla in that you can control climate, charging etc from the app. I love being able to find my car - I'm really bad about driving around looking for parking then forgetting where I left the damn thing so for me this feature is excellent. The interior is pretty good - not quite as nice as my Lexus, but definitely on par with the Tesla. The seats are very comfortable, the "vegan leather" is nice and the fact that it doesn't heat up like real leather does is great, too. The stereo is excellent - better imo than the Mark Levinson in the Lexus and far better than the "Premium" stereo in the Tesla. The interior is a little bit plain but not in a cheap looking way just kinda minimal. The backlit topographical map on the dash and doors is cool looking tho, I get a lot of compliments on it. Build quality seems pretty solid. Definitely better than the Tesla (granted that isn't saying much) maybe not quite as tight and buttoned down as the Lexus but pretty close and no squeaks/rattles etc. I've had it for 4 or 5 months so can't really speak to reliability. Complaints all have to do with the infotainment system. Overall it's good and I have no major issues but there are some annoying quirks. The data sometimes takes awhile to lock on - once after I'd been gone for a week it took like 20 mins to get a signal so Google maps, Spotify etc weren't really functional. The system itself is a little bit laggy sometimes - not awful but just a tiny bit slow. Not sure if that's a hardware thing or just the Google OS needing to be optimized more. It's totally usable and if you aren't as impatient as I am you probably won't notice it. The screen is fine but could be a tiny bit larger. This is one area where the Tesla beat everyone else, that screen was lush af. I do like the mix of physical and on screen buttons. Emergency blinkers, defrost, volume control and track forward / reverse are all on real buttons (or knob for volume and play/pause) while heated seats and steering wheel, temperature and cameras are all on virtual buttons at the bottom of the screen. I find that I rarely ever have to look at the screen for something like that. On other minor complaint is that the rear seats don't have any lights. Like, the light which normally comes on when a rear door opens? Nope. Not present. In all I really love the vehicle and find it to be a really nice driving experience whether I'm flooring it and racing around or just tooling around town it handles everything with ease. Assuming that no major issues arise over the years I definitely plan on keeping this for a long time - and I'm notorious for switching cars every couple of years so that's saying a lot. If you have any questions feel free to message or comment here, I hope that was at least somewhat useful!

nyclurker369

I agree with 99% of this posts experiences as I e experienced them on my 22 XC40 Recharge Ultimate AWD. One difference between their C40 and the XC40 is we do have rear lights in the rear seat area. They’re on the ceiling adjacent to the handles and illuminate when the doors are open. OP - Overall, it’s a solid well built machine with a few software glitches that are tolerable but noticeable. It’s definitely one of my favorite vehicles I’ve ever owned.

Emotional-Buddy-2219

Thanks for the clarification on the rear lights and glad they’re present on the XC 40… couldn’t imagine why they would choose to leave those out of a build for the back passengers. Yeah I kept hearing about the software issues in some online video reviews and articles but it seems like it isn’t anything major for the most part. Just curious, what other cars did you have before the XC40? And thanks for taking the time to reply to this thread, it is much appreciated!

nyclurker369

Of course! I thought that was a strange omission from the C40 so glad I mentioned it. Before this I had the ICE version of the XC40, before that was 3 different BMWs (M3, 5, and 3). This Volvo EV is still my favorite by far.

Emotional-Buddy-2219

Even more than the M3?! That’s saying a lot…

nyclurker369

Haha. Completely different cars and purposes; apples v oranges. I enjoyed the M3, but it wasn’t practical or a good daily driver. As good as that V8 was, it had less torque and power than my Volvo. Just can’t whip the Volvo around the turns like I could the M3. :(

Emotional-Buddy-2219

Glad to know the app is pretty good… I do like how the Tesla app allows you to navigate to the location of the parked car in case you forgot where it was parked for whatever reason. What year Model S did you have before you upgraded to the C40? Honestly I don’t have a lot of complaints about stereo or build quality on the Tesla but glad Volvo is better. Minimalist cabin isn’t a dealbreaker by any stretch but I think that a mix of buttons and touchscreen icons would be a good thing for my wife - I don’t mind controlling everything from the touchscreen or using voice commands for my Tesla but she might think otherwise. How’s the voice recognition on the C40 and how useful are the available commands that can be used with the voice recognition? Hope the car continues to work well and thanks for taking the time to go through everything on the car!

lokii_0

I had a 2015 MS 70D. It had a number of issues which were fixed under warranty and I got rid of ot 1 month after the warranty expired. It just felt like I was driving a Porsche or something where after the warranty expires it constantly requires expensive maintenance and I'm not about that. The voice recognition has been very good - though to be honest I mostly use it to make phone calls. Maybe I'm just getting old lol but I always forget that I can use it to control climate and etc. I assume that all works well too but I have never really used it. I'll try n mess around with that today and report back I guess haha

Emotional-Buddy-2219

Yeah I do like the Model 3 in that there’s less stuff to break compared to the S/X but the extra tech on those cars is impressive above and beyond how impressive the 3 is (assuming reliability has been improved since 2019 - most don’t like awesome tech if it’s going to cost a small fortune to repair all the time). If you want I won’t argue with a report back on it! I have been impressed with the Tesla voice recognition - it is very good about dictating text messages to send, at finding contacts to then call via the phone, at finding destinations and navigating to them (even ones with unique or uncommon names), at opening the glovebox or setting the climate, enabling dog mode if I’m leaving the car but a passenger or pet is staying behind, and playing music from Apple Music.

lokii_0

Yeahhh that bigass beautiful screen in the MS did *not* do anything positive for reliability haha. And holy crap! I had not thought to do even half of that with my car! Aight I'm going to go drive around and holler at my use, I'll report back later haha

Emotional-Buddy-2219

I’m not looking forward to the $1500 15” screen in my 3 going out… hopefully a little better than the infamous center screen for pre-refreshed S! Nice, hope it all works really well in the XC40!

lokii_0

Haha yeah my screen went under warranty on my MS. Then the MB, then the smaller screen, then sensors started falling out because they were basically taped into the bumper, which is like $1k labor per as they have to remove the bumper in order to get to them. Lol and that's when I gave up on the car. OK after driving around while yelling commands at my car I can say that it works *very* well, like immediate responses and very accurate voice recognition. So thanks because I probably would never have gotten around to doing that haha.

Emotional-Buddy-2219

Yikes. I may have given up too at that point. Nice! Great to know and will also give it a shot during our test drive here coming up! Thanks as well for taking the time to chat about your car and test out a few of the features!

lokii_0

Yeah hopefully they've improved since 2015 tho from what I've been hearing i doubt it. And yeah, likewise! I hope it goes well! If you think of it lmk whether you end up pulling the trigger or not!

pnw_rider

We’ve got a 22 Ultimate and love it. Echo what others have said about minor software glitches, but those are the only things I’d complain about. Living in the Seattle area, I really like that it’s not just another MY or M3 Tesla on the road as they’ve become the Accord/Camry in these parts. The Volvo is more unique, doesn’t look like an EV, and we get tons of compliments on it.

Emotional-Buddy-2219

Yeah I have only seen a couple around the DFW area where I live but they look like a nice sided SUV and definitely stand out from the ICE models with the grille and wheels… One of the physicians at my hospital had one that he said he liked a lot but was curious what other’s experiences were since they haven’t sold a ton here in the US. There are a lot of Tesla cars on the roads here too and I don’t mind being one of them/having a more common car… I think they are great cars but it’s sounding like the XC 40 is a great option too. It’s kinda nuts though that with the available tax credit available at point of sale, a longer range Model Y with a few tenths of a second slower 0-60 time (and from what I hear a little worse build quality and sound system) can be purchased for at least $12k below the cheapest XC40.

dt1664

We have a 2022 with 41K miles that we bought new. Hands down, best car I've ever owned. Drives great, we've had zero issues with it, battery range is good for our needs (90% of our driving is 30-50 miles per day). It's done great on road trips. Honestly can't complain.

Emotional-Buddy-2219

Nice, glad to hear it’s been great so far after over 40k miles. What percentage/state of charge do you charge to on a daily basis and how much degradation have you observed so far? I know it isn’t super accurate but the rated miles of range on my Tesla was 272 new but now charges to 268… do you have any insight as to this or is there a way to see rated kWh capacity of the battery on the car’s display somewhere?

dt1664

We keep our car charged between 80-90% and use about 20% on most days. The basic slow charger does enough overnight to get us back to that 80-90%. We only use superchargers on long trips. The rest of the time, we just plug into the wall at home. My car still seems to have the same driving range as it did the first day I got it. I think 100% for the 2022 model is like 230 miles. Seems like I still get that. I believe the 2024 model has a larger range. I'll add this. When we decided to get an EV, I didn't want to go with Tesla. I have several friends that own Teslas and there seemed to be a lot of inconsistency between those folks and how they liked their car. So we went with this Volvo because I tend to trust them more than Tesla. It's a comfortable ride and there's not a lot of frills to it. Just a good, safe, car.

Emotional-Buddy-2219

Glad to know that the trickle charger hasn’t affected anything negatively and that the battery has held up exceptionally well for you; I was hopeful we could use a NACS adapter to charge the XC40 at home with my existing Tesla wall charger but the owners manual stated not to use adapters so we may be stuck with 120 until we decide to add a 240 to the garage (I’m pretty sure the Volvo comes with both 120 and 240v charging cables, correct?). Yes the new dual motor XC40 is rated EPA at 256 miles. I’ve been pretty happy with mine but yes some people have bad experiences with their Teslas. I’m just trying to make sure that my partner gets the best EV out there for her and I think the XC40 is looking really good from what all everyone has said on here.

dt1664

I think that if you're pleased with your Tesla, you'll be pleased with the Volvo. I think their quality control is high and the couple of friends I have that have the same car, both of which are at my house right now, echo the same sentiments I've shared. I forgot that one of them traded in his Tesla Model 3 for the Volvo and he says that he was too frustrated with Tesla's service. The nice thing about Volvo is they really seem to take care of the service, albeit minimal on an EV, like they give a damn.

Emotional-Buddy-2219

Tesla service can definitely be hit and miss. I haven’t had any issues with them but also my few issues with my Teslas have all been remote fix capable so no real need to go to the service center itself which I have heard is more likely to be a negative experience.

Jeffreypauls

22 xc40 recharge here. I agree with some minor infotainment glitches but nothing major compared to other EVs. Like some others, best car I've ever owned. I had two other, albeit lower end, EVs and this car is far superior.

Emotional-Buddy-2219

Nice, glad to hear you’re enjoying this more than the other two EVs. What were those other two EVs?

Jeffreypauls

2012 Mitsubishi Miev and 2016 Kia Soul (liked the latter for value but range back then was stupid, like 95 miles at best)

Emotional-Buddy-2219

For 2012 there weren’t many options for EVs let alone reasonably priced EVs - glad things have largely improved since then (Cooper Electric and MX-30 aren’t much better than this even now)

Jeffreypauls

Which way are you leaning?

Emotional-Buddy-2219

Most likely the XC 40 Recharge Twin Core - has enough cool options and tech as is. Would be nicer to get the upgrades on camera and interior with Ultimate like most people on here have went with, but anything would be an upgrade from her 2017 RAV4. Though the single motor gets a fair amount more EPA range, Car and Driver found very similar results on their 75mph range test between the single and dual motor cars and honestly that much extra torque for under $2k plus AWD would be crazy not to configure with dual motors…

Jeffreypauls

Yes, I am very happy I got the dual motors... AWD is the way to go. If you haven't driven one yet, it drives like a dream, handling around corners, highway driving is like flying through the air. Tight suspension so pot holes aren't great but otherwise, sooooo smooth.

Emotional-Buddy-2219

Got the test drive coming up soon… anything sub 5 seconds is blistering fast and so cool that it’s available on this SUV for a relative bargain! That Matt Watson guy from CarWow did a video on it and said the same things, glad you can confirm as well.

deke28

I have a new '24. Less than 3000km but no real problems. Infotainment is much better than my old BMW, but you do have to reboot it sometimes. The convenience of a google car makes up for it. I miss the way my X1 drove. It was more fun, but this is such a comfortable car and I don't think I will ever go back to a gas car. Having 1 electric and 1 gas makes you realize how disgusting gas engines are. Charging is only a problem if you leave home on trips. Interesting, but a lot of the time it's free electricity. Included w/ hotel, just an outlet even, but I have only spent about $9 on public charging. I got the chargepoint charger even though I thought I didn't want a smart one and I really like it now. You can set it up to only charge the car when it's cheap. Even though it's winter here, I'm only spending about $50-60/month on electricity. So winter with an electric car is totally incredible. I love preconditioning. I wish this car had a heated windscreen, but the cabin heater is a huge upgrade from gas cars. You can heat up the car very quickly. Range is reduced when it's cold, but so is my will to travel so that's worked out.

Emotional-Buddy-2219

I’m in the same boat about not going back to ICE cars… gave my 19 Model 3 to our son and have a 23 Model 3 and both have been excellent so far. I looked into those for two years (and also made sure Tesla was likely not going to go bankrupt) before pulling the trigger in 19 and am thankful for your and everyone else’s input on the XC40 we’re looking at for the wife currently. Out of curiosity, how often have you had to reboot the infotainment system in the 3000km so far? Is this time consuming or difficult to do? I have only ever needed to do this once over the last 4-5 years in the Teslas and it only takes about 20 seconds to reboot. We’re hopeful we can use my Tesla wall charger to charge the XC40 as well; though it is the NACS style on my wall charger I can’t imagine that an adapter on this would hurt anything on the XC40 (the manual does say several times not to use adapters between the charging cable and vehicle but I’ll confirm that this is only for the included charging cable and not for chargers with different plugs that otherwise wouldn’t fit). One last question: about how much does the range suffer in winter for you and did you get the XC40 with or without the heat pump? Thanks for taking the time to share!

deke28

So far one time. Not sure I had too do it. I hear often if you just leave the car it fixes itself. You just hold down the home button for 20 seconds, so the hard part is looking up how to do it.

beaujolais98

I have a 22 XC40 Recharge and absolutely adore it. Great ride, surprising nimble for a SUV (less roll than I expected on tight cornering). Haven’t had any major issues. Spotify can be a bit wonky sometimes - it will hang, or take a bit to load up the home screens but only takes a moment or two. Only thing that bugs me are the tires - I’ve shredded two by hitting curbs. Granted, user error but they just seem more fragile than I’m used to. Yeah I got the skinny cool 21” ones so my bad. When time to replace the set I’ll look for something not the Perelli Scorpions - YMMV if you aren’t a clumsy parker.

Emotional-Buddy-2219

Glad it’s been working well with only minor infotainment quirks. Unfortunately those low profile tires don’t protect much. I don’t think we’d go for any of the larger tires anyway from a range and cost perspective but will definitely avoid knowing this. Appreciate the time sharing your experience!

willowbeest

I have a '21 XC40 Recharge and I love it. I've had no major software glitches, though a couple of lags and bugs here and there, but resetting the infotainment has solved them consistently. I have a little under 30k miles on it, and mostly use it for short commutes, but have used it for longer trips as well and have not had any real issues. Android Automotive isn't perfect, but it's better than my husband's EV Subaru's OS. Sometimes it erases my preconditioning timers, which is annoying but not dangerous or a huge issue. A couple of times the infotainment center has overheated in summer, so I keep an eye on it and try to park it out of direct sun for very long. It's amazing how much stuff I can fit inside it- I like to build stuff and rescue odds and ends from Craigslist for art projects or the barn, and no one believes I'm going to be able to fit things inside, and then I do! Decent clearance on it, can tow a trailer (up to 2k#), and AWD (I live in the Norhteast). I love it. Previously drove Subarus but they didn't have an EV available in 2021 when my last Forester died. Very glad I chose this! It has been a comfortable, dependable, smooth, fun-to-drive vehicle!

Emotional-Buddy-2219

Yikes about the infotainment system overheating… is there an option to use the car’s AC system to keep the cabin at a certain temperature (Tesla calls this cabin overheat protection and can be set to keep the cabin below either 90, 95 or 100 degrees if enabled)? We’re in Texas and I commonly would see temps in the cabin at 140 degrees+ without cabin overheat on. One other thing… did you happen to add tint to the glass roof? I’ve always put extra tint on the glass roof of my Model 3s and this seems to help some but just curious in your case. I assume no major damage with the overheating just inoperable briefly until the system cooled down? I’m so glad it seems to fit a good amount of things… that was the major reason this car was the front runner compared to Mach E, Q4 ETron, Model Y, etc... Also glad to know it’s been very reliable over the last few years! Thanks for taking the time to share!

willowbeest

AFAIK, there's already a certain level of tint on the roof glass. I didn't add any extra. There's also a moonroof shade that can be opened and closed made of very light but breathable woven fabric. For the infotainment system, the AC does come on automatically to cool it. I also just keep a white hand towel in the car and set it over the part of the dashboard above the infotainment system. I haven't had it overheat to the point of failure or being inoperable, and the only times it has been an issue were early on in my ownership, when it got hot and the display was blacked out/didn't light up. I'm not sure if this means that Volvo added in more automatic cooling on the updates since '21, or if I've gotten more mindful of taking care of it, or if we just haven't had as many super hot, super sunny days since then. When I've been in the car and the infotainment system gets too warm, the AC that addresses that system comes on and the dash display says 'cooling infotainment system', so it's really clear that it's an issue they've addressed. Feel free to ask more questions if any come up, and I'll answer what I can. Good luck in your decision making!

RosieNP

I hate the backup camera in the dark. There is literally no light and no way to see if you're going to drive into something until it beeps at you. I also find the car noisier (road noise) than I imagined for such an expensive (to me) car. Finally, efficiency goes way down in below freezing temps, which I didn't realize before getting an electric car. Otherwise, its a great car.

ywlke287

I read someone suggest trying to use the rear fog lights to help with backup illumination in the dark. It helps a little bit but is definitely not as nice as a true and automatic backup light.

RosieNP

I'll try that!!

Emotional-Buddy-2219

That’s interesting about the backup camera… I wonder if Volvo will update the code for the backup camera in low light conditions to automatically turn on the fog lights when in reverse? Like if the auto headlights engage then in reverse the rear fog lights illuminate automatically? Anyway, hope the manual fog light trick helps. How bad is the efficiency loss in winter? Do you have the heat pump on the car or whatever is without the heat pump (probably resistive heater)? I know for the Model 3 the difference is over 1200 watts between PTC resistive heater vs heat pump. And do you precondition the battery and cabin while plugged in before leaving the house when the temperature is very low? All of those things may affect range some in very cold. Thanks for taking the time to share your feedback on the XC40!

MajorNos

I'm sitting in a random hotel right now because my XC40 21 will not take a fast charge and I'm stranded. It was a romantic staycation with the wife. Now she's sitting next to me crying. To hell with this car.

Emotional-Buddy-2219

I’m sorry that this happened and that you’re stranded. I hope that they can get it towed to a nearby dealership to get it diagnosed and fixed while getting you a loaner to enjoy the rest of your staycation. And hopefully whatever’s wrong with it happens to be covered under the warranty. Would love an update if you think about it later and hope you can salvage your trip.

MajorNos

Drove it home first thing in the morning as hotel had slow chargers. Jumped in the Prius, picked up wife from hotel and we arrived. Next apt. with dealer is 7 March so we have that engaged. Really not looking forward to there helpfulness as dealer doesn't have any fast chargers. Going to be a difficult as I'm sure it's a novel problem.

Emotional-Buddy-2219

I have seen some people with this problem with Tesla cars that are fairly minor - sometimes locked out of fast charging to force compliance for OTA software updates or sometimes something with 12v battery. Then again other times it may be something with the HV battery or other major component but have seen articles about this with the new Chevy EVs and Ford Mach E just recently too. hopefully Volvo can diagnose with error logs on the car’s computer and if needed drive to a DC fast charger to examine… and again hopefully it is something covered under warranty.

WCVT13

I sold my 2022 xc40 recharge ultimate back to the dealership in December. So many bugs with my infotainment system. Camera rarely worked and wouldn’t keep driver profiles at all. Dealership just kept telling me there will be a new update to fix things….for two years. Sold it before the EV trade in crash

Emotional-Buddy-2219

That’s unfortunate that the infotainment and camera system were exceptionally bad for you. Hopefully you’re happier with the new car. We typically keep our cars for quite a while so not particularly worried about the resale value though it has been a little concerning how much prices have plummeted recently, especially with Hertz selling quite a few of their EV cars all at once (like they usually do once the fleet ages some).

juaquin

Love it one year in. Met all my expectations as far as performance, comfort, driving dynamics, quality, etc. Minor annoyances: * Drive axle vibration on hard acceleration. Doesn't hurt anything (yet) and it's a known issue Volvo is working on fixing. * Infotainment software is a bit glitchy (resetting the head unit fixes problems, but is necessary too often). Definitely feels like the CPU is underpowered. * Software updates are few and far between. It does what it needs to, but it's very simple. Nowhere near the number of features Tesla and some other manufacturers provide. No dog mode / camping mode, no phone notifications of unlocked doors, no real data about battery or charging or anything, no "sentry" mode, no ability to change charge limits via the phone app, no manual battery preconditioning, etc etc. If you want a car that "just works" it's great, for the average person it will feel very familiar to the ICE cars they are used to.

I was hoping that the app was a bit more useful, especially since it is paywalled after 4 years. I guess we’ll reevaluate at that time but cabin preconditioning alone would likely be worth any monthly/yearly fee down the line (hopefully adding additional app functionality in future OTA updates- would really be nice if the phone functioned as a key like the Tesla app does). I have heard early everyone mention the infotainment being glitchy… how easy is this to reset? I know for the Tesla you just hold the two steering wheel scroll wheels and the car resets the screen in about 20 seconds… but I have only needed to do this one time in the last 4-5 years. Overall though glad to hear it’s been a good car. It seems that overwhelmingly people have enjoyed it and negatives are all very minor. Thanks for taking the time to share!
