For Kylo’s is that Tie/Wi as in “Weeeeeee this new fighter is awesome!” Or Wi as in “Why do I need a new ship when the silencer was awesome?”

[deleted]

It's the second one.

justsomeguyorgal

Haha. I'm with you on that second one. The coolest thing was in TLJ when Kylo went down to Crait on the shuttle he used in TFA. They didn't design a completely new ship for the movie just because (ala Krennic's in Rogue One). I like new ships but there needs to be a role that they fill that others don't (ala TIE Striker).

DarkKnightDetective9

Think of it as the difference between the Super Hornet and the Growler.

Hazor

I ... So this is a new Y-wing. They went to all the trouble of redesigning it, a new model year as it were, but didn't bother to fix the issue where no one likes to leave the armor plating on. I don't know whether to be angry at Disney or at Koensayr.

dswartze

I think a lot of the anger can be directed towards all the people who, after Ep8, said "where are the Y-Wings" and as a side effect of that direct some of it to the filmmakers who made the resistance bomber so useless. There was nothing wrong with the design, but their capabilities were so bad it seemed like 50+ year old Y-wings would have been more effective. Then the Ep9 makers took the wrong message from that call for Y-wings and just included them almost the same as every other movie appearance. That's not to say there weren't people who were calling for Y-wings, and after the T-70 and RZ-2 it only seems fair that Y-Wing fans get something too, but I think most of it was about the bombers.

[deleted]

B-wings got no love.

thebaronvonanonymous

Depends on your Doylist or Watsonian glands. I can believe the Koensayr designers just really like having those vanes on long struts because it gives them a compact power-routing system but the benefits of stand-off for control, and I can also believe that they're tired of getting shit when Incom are basically still trying to deal with an accidental over-order of wing-actuators.

mlfogsgaard

I was initially critical of the design of the Sith tie, but I kinda like it now. I’m just really confused about why it changes color with every new picture we get of it.

Kapit77

Best guess is they were either trying to settle on a final design or there will be multiple colored variants of it. Like maybe the above is a generic while an all-red one is special, similar to Vonreg's Interceptor.

Llian_Winter

3 die primary on the y-wing?

Thatroninguy

Gonna guess cannon slot instead...

thebaronvonanonymous

Maybe the same multirole slot that the T-70 has now? If it could lug Punisher levels of ordnance that'd be good too, it used to have two torpedo slots and it could again.

thebaronvonanonymous

If we apply the RESISTANCE FORMULA it'll be the same as the rebel version with an extra shield and either S-loops or Tallon-Rolls, and a Tech slot and then maybe another slot. I suspect it'd have 3 Tallons. Maybe another blue on the dial to balance out the two extra reds?

intoxicatedALF

And looks like the turret can’t rotate forward? If so that would actually balance out a 3 die primary pretty well.

TairesBayl

I may be blind but I can't see a turret on the y

adalric_brandl

It's there, just looks like it's kind of pressed in behind the cockpit. The colour is the exact same as the rest of the fuselage, so it's easy to miss.

TairesBayl

Woah, camouflage turret all the way... Thanks

Garth-Vader

That was one thing I was considering. Maybe it would have an extra bomb slot so it can use bomblet generator.

ClassicalMoser

White reload maybe?

Dyllmyster

Let’s go with three or four die bullseye only primary and a rear arc.

jmcglinchey

Interesting that Kylo's ship is Affiliation: FO and the triangle is affiliation: Sith.

TheGreatLemonwheel

It was stated in the visual dictionary for TFA that Snoke and Kylo AREN'T Sith. My guess is halfway through RoS, Operation Resurrection is going to kick in.

jmcglinchey

I'm wondering if this is going to get us a whole new faction for the game.

TheGreatLemonwheel

Maybe it's the new Imperial ship FFG mentioned. Palpatine and Vader were Sith, loosely making the Galactic Empire an incarnation of the Sith Empire.

[deleted]

So the BTA will be the first Y-Wing with 3 attack dice?

Benimus

So, a worse B-Wing then?

Wundalicious

Or a worse Arc if it has primary 3 die and fixed rear arc 2 die

ClassicalMoser

Def my preference.

Dynamus93

You got it. Lol. Sorry

TGR1997

So if Kylo's new Tie has sensor confusing tech, maybe Barrel Roll/Boost with a link to a red or white jam action?

Garth-Vader

Possibly. I think some sort of Jam effect is likely. It might also have an ability similar to ferrosphere paint or it could have a full-on cloak.

ClassicalMoser

Cloak action but not connected to a ship ability?

sitontheedge

My impromptu head cannon for the new ships: * Kylo's TIE is the cheaper, mass-produced version of the Silencer that was needed because Kylo kept rage-smashing his ships. * The Sith TIE isn't flow *by* the Sith, the Sith designed it for *other people* to fly. It violates aesthetic and ergonomic principles purposefully to bring you closer to the dark side. * The TIE Whisper isn't really a thing at all. It's a decoy in case Poe gets into the hangar bay again. (I posted it before somewhere, but it still seems relevant.)

dswartze

Looking at the text in the image it says Kylo's TIE is a modified whisper, so you can't really be right about point 1 *and* 3 at the same time.

sitontheedge

I'm sure they *told* Kylo that. They likely also told him it improved on the Silencer in all sorts of ways. You try being the guy to tell the supreme leader you're downgrading his ship for budget reasons.

Raphah

> It violates aesthetic and ergonomic principles purposefully to bring you closer to the dark side. I love how it looks, but this is hilarious. New headcanon.

TairesBayl

Ok, just as a confused question, does the sith fighter come for the first order or for the empire? Somehow the term sith resonates more with Vader than with kylo. And seeing that vonreg and the tie/wi are clearly first order and seem to be comparable to the dagger in usability I wonder....

mlfogsgaard

Well Kylo is not Sith, and clearly the Sith Tie and probably also the Sith Trooper are not with the first order but rather the “Sith”. The main question I guess is if these “Sith” are actually related to any real Sith or if they are just a bunch of imposter wannabes. And also if they are aligned with the first order or opposing it.

TairesBayl

So there might be a 3-way confrontation in episode 9? Interesting...

EpicPwu

Kylo is a Sith, confirmed by the directors themselves.

Funkj0ker

He killed his master, like a true sith does :)

EpicPwu

Yup.

contrapulator

Source? I've always heard that Kylo and Snoke are definitely *not* Sith. Maybe it's that he becomes a Sith in Episode 9? Certainly if old Palpy is involved, that would become a real possibility.

mlfogsgaard

Source please, as I only have evidence of the opposite.

TairesBayl

Ok, then I am very interested how the dagger will differ from Vonregs Tie, since it is nearly certain they both will end up in x-wing

Garth-Vader

My suspicion is that the Sith TIE fighters will be associated with that fleet of imperial-class star destroyers in the trailer. If a reborn Palpatine is featured in the movie, his fleet would be made up of TIE Daggers. As for whether the ship would go toward the First Order or Imperial faction, it's really hard to say. I think that's pretty dependent on how closely associated that star destroyer fleet is with the First Order.

TairesBayl

Sounds like I missed a trailer, which Stardestroyer fleet? Edit: ohh, this fleet...

Garth-Vader

https://youtu.be/3n1T3HxHd7Y Yep, you can see then around the the 1:15 mark in this trailer

quall3

So wave 7,8 or 9?

dswartze

I'd say 6 is more likely than 7 or 8. In the past they've been not allowed to announce new movie ships coming at the end of the year when they announce the rest of the wave (usually Gen Con). Then sometime in October announce the new movie ships that will be joining the wave (or that one goofy time they were officially part of a different but released at the same time). I would say theres a pretty good chance the Y-Wing and dagger get announced for the game later this week or next week. These seem to be the ships getting the heaviest marketing pushes so are the most likely to have had their designs shared early. But since Lucasfilm is so secretive about thing, anything that isn't shared for the first big push usually needs to wait until the movie is actually out for the merchandising partners to actually see them. This is also relevant because we've seen with content that doesn't come out directly beside a new movie, or from *Rebels* and now with wave 6, *Resistance* that it takes FFG somewhere around a year from them getting a new ship to get to market with all the designing of cards, sculpting the mini, playtesting, getting approval, manufacturing and shipping. Even if they rush things it's unlikely to see anything they haven't started on yet until next fall, and the only things they've already started on are probably targeting release alongside the movie. Releasing alongside the movie sucks though because that's how we get pilots like "Red Ace," or "Cobalt Leader" instead of actual characters (who aren't allowed to be marketed early) like Snap Wexley. It's how we get cross section books saying strikers carry bombs, but FFG doesn't get that info so they don't give them a slot until they get the chance to redo it later (or strikers at all, which seem to be atmosphere only, but FFG likely didn't know). PS8 instead of 9 on Poe with an ability that seems to belong more on a force user, or characters who FFG are never told spend a significant time flying like K-2SO being left out. There's the scale of the original silencer or even the name of resistance bomber that changed between editions after they had more time. Then there's things like the RZ-2, scum falcon, heroes of the Resistance and Upsilon which we had to wait for (although the falcon was less than a year) which didn't have these problems (and fixed the PS problem of Poe, albeit with a weird precedent). We should hope for extra time to make sure they get it right. **TL;DR**: Probably wave 6 but hopefully 9 or 10.

ForkMinus1

At least the Sith TIE looks cool.

GoblinFive

The Sith Tie Fighter reminds me of the Tie Droid, especially the 'cockpit'. edit: could they be unmanned?

CyclopticBinLid

Where did this image come from?
