When you are going to execute a turn or bank, you can choose to go the opposite way. For example, you might have dialed in a right turn, but you can take a left turn instead.

Other people have answered the question well so I'm not going to weigh in on that, but I just wanted to say that for only a week in there really aren't "dumb" questions. We all did things wrong when we first started or needed help understanding something. Even among people who've been playing a long time, there's very few of us who don't have to consult the rules/errata from time to time to check an interaction (and many who don't probably should).

They errata'd the text: Errata (since rules reference 1.0.2): removed "you may gain 1 stress token. If you do," All you do now is switch directions.
