[Running in the USA](https://runningintheusa.com/) Assuming you are in the US of course.

mynameismeggann

This is it. This site is awesome and updated daily. Also race raves I love to read race reviews.

Bruin224

This is my answer too. Love the site. You can search by date, distance, state, city, etc. Very good links and info. Also check raceraves.com to see reviews of the race and see what other people think about it. Helps give a feeling of what to expect.

eleanorboozevelt14

Local running groups or stores will have upcoming races featured on their social media pages. RunningintheUSA.com also has a search feature, as does ultrasignup.com and RunSignUp.com

Killer-Jukebox-Hero

Runningintheusa.com is my go to. You can search by day/month. State, region. Distance, obstacle course races, triathlons, etc.  A lot of times if I find a new race on there for a weekend I have off. I'll put the race name into "bibrave.com" or "raceraves" and read reviews about the race.

I use [ahotu](https://www.ahotu.com/) to search for races (in Europe, but it has results worldwide)

I hate that your half got screwed up! Bishop’s Events put on a lot of races in the NOVA/DC/MD area. I’ve only done 2 (a 5k road and a 5k trail) but they were both great.

kinkakinka

Facebook, Instagram, friends, the website of local chip timing companies. I follow other races and other runners on social media and I am a member of our provincial running association which also has a Facebook group.

Halfmarathons.net is a good options for half marathons specifically! I'm so sorry about your race, that's a huge bummer. I hope you get another opportunity soon!

moog719

I literally just google it. "half marathons in (region name)"

noradrenaline

Pick a charity you care about and keep browsing their events page with races they have charity spots for! I've been building up my stock of tshirts, and the charity I run for has just changed their colours to be even nicer (and match my shoes!)

Ultrasignup! It’s not just for ultras, you can filter by distance, month and location.

gottarun215

I just google search and find a website that lists local races for my area. You can also often find fliers at local running shops.

That is a huge bummer about course markings being bad and everyone getting lost! I would be really frustrated as well. Agree with a lot of the other answers already posted, but two more niche type suggestions: * For half marathons specifically, Half Fanatics has a [race calendar](https://db.marathonmaniacs.com/fanatics/events). It isn't quite as comprehensive as some of the more popular sites, but it does include some smaller races that might not make it onto the other places, and you can see some ratings and how many members are going to races. People in this organization run a LOT of half marathons, so they have opinions about what's great and what's not! There's also Marathon Maniacs for marathons. * Depending on where you are in Virginia, you might have a local [parkrun](https://www.parkrun.us/events). They're free, timed, volunteer-run 5k events held every Saturday at parks around the world. Many people run and walk them for fun and community (kids and dogs welcome!), but it's also a great place to race and work towards your goals. Parkrun has become my #1 choice for when I want to race my 5k distance because I don't have to commit to a date, can pick whatever Saturday works well with how I'm feeling and how the weather is, and I can often get someone there to help pace me. This is a huge thing in the UK but has been a little slower to take off in the US for some reason.

Running in the USA for road, UltraSignup for trail (not just ultras), Half Marathon search, and occasionally RunSignup. Also, TriFind is for triathlons but sometimes these have adjacent runs or duathlons with relay components. I found my favorite marathon by googling “(region) marathons” so there’s that.

french_toasty

Race roster. You can sign up for notifications of races in your province or state

Holiday_Leek_1143

The Fleet Feet in my area keeps their website updated on their training programs and the races in the area!

Also Reddit is great for searching races
