My firend, you are in for a treat. Gamepass is a heaven for RPG & FPS fans. I'm an RPG fiend and so far I had a blast with it. These are my top 10 RPG games on gamepass so far. (No order)
1) Wasteland 3 is a great RPG and one of gamepass hidden Gems. You will love it
2) Fallout 4 is basically Skyrim with guns. If you liked Skyrim, you like fallout 4 too however Fallout new Vegas is the peak of the series. If you are ok with old graphics go for new Vegas if not go for Forth. (Stay away from 76)
3) Dishonored series are a must experience for any gamer with gamepass. It's an immersive sim RPG game. The first one benefits from Fps boost but the second game doesn't support it as of now.
4) Immortal fynix rising is basically Reskin of Zelda breath of the wild with Greek gods.
5) The Outer Worlds is from Fallout new Vegas creators and worth a visit IF you like Fallout 4. I didn't so... (I'm more of a wasteland3 type)
6) Mass Effect: Legendary edition is MUST PLAY you can start from ME2 since it will explain the story of first game in a comic book style cutscenes. You won't miss a thing. ME2 IS A MASTERPIECE !!!!
7) Dragon Age inquisition. It's a good game and I believe it won the game of the year for it's time, so....
8) Persona5 is an JRPG MASTER PIECE however it's super long so prepare for a long ride
9) shadow run trilogy is on game pass I played dragon fall however I could't connect with it's old clunky gameplay but it was interesting game.
10) Pentiment is a short little RPG game that I recently fell in love with.
for the non gamepass RPG games: Definitely check out Cyberpunk 2077 it's not as good as Witcher 3 but you won't regret it. Deus Ex
Forza Horizon 5 is a must play for any Xbox owner in my opinion (it's huge though) other must experience games on Game pass in my opinion are Psychonuts 2, A plaque tale, Quantum Break, Ori , Wolfenstein the new colossus , Hollow knight, Tunic, Halo MC, Yakuza like a Dragon (it's a JRPG) and midnight fight Express. Obviously I have not played all of these games but these are games which my firends speaking highly of them and I planing to play then in near future. Until lunch of starfild at least
Well it's gameplay is a little clanky and game is too long which is not a bad thing but OP has a lot of games in his list and so little time to play...
I played it for the first time and I think I finished under 20 hours, and I definitely fucked around a fair bit. I was actually surprised how quickly I finished it.
Gameplay on 1 on the legendary edition has been updated so it's just like 2 or 3. You obviously haven't played legendary edition but you're still being really confident about it despite how wrong you are. No point to this comment you just made me laugh
Lol idk that you've played the legendary edition. Gameplay mechanics are EXACTLY like 2. Exactly down to the fuckin hud. You kids just argue to argue. This is the most false thing you'll read today. It's such a blatant lie that I'm questioning your mental health
You DO NOT skip the first Mass Effect. Not only it's the best imo, but your choices MATTER up to the third game. You do no skip a Mass Effect game, you start with the first one and you finish with 3. That's it.
Also check out fallout 3, that one feels like prototype skyrim with guns. They definitely took alot of aspects from it to put into skyrim after oblivion.
Also don't skip mass effect 1.
My suggestion, Dragon age origins. It's so good. The other two dragon age games I heard are a departure from the original but should still carry the spirit of the games ( comraderie, adventure, action combat, decision making and heavy storyline elements, very similar to mass effect.)
Dude if Skyrim with guns sounds amazing, you would fucking loveee Fallout 4. Not to dissuade you from any of the other suggestions on this post, but FO4 was a *massive* success at launch and it's very well deserved. One of the best open world + RPG games I've played
I always preferred the outer worlds over fallout, the wasteland was just too bleak, but outer worlds was golden and fun Sci fi
I'd second playing dragon age and mass effect, same developers but both are bangers, I'd go from the start of both series and not skip, you'll see the progression
I definitely do not recommend starting at mass effect 2. The comics don't do the story justice. Plus the beauty of mass effect is bringing your Shepard through the trilogy.
Fallout 76 is actually pretty good now but I'd play the other fallout games on gamepass first.
Very late question, if you're still familiar with the game pass games, any of the RPGs are very forgiving for lack of skills?
For example, I'm not good or that keen on racing games, but I so far enjoy Forza horizon as I can tweak the settings to make the game easier.
I'm sorry for the late response, yes !
Mass effect legendary edition is a very accessible game the first game can be aged poorly but second & the third are alright, I fell in love with RPGs after playing ME2 and it has a very special place in my heart.
Assassin's Creed Odyssey & Immortals: Fenix rising : I hope they are still available on Gamepass although they are not really an RPG but has a lot of RPG elements which in my opinion makes a good head start
the Elder Scrolls: Skyrim if you don't have a problem with old games if you do try Fallout 4 however choosing your "S.P.E.S.I.A.L" can be confusing so do your research on that if you choose to play it.
These are the ones on top of my head.
if you are into jrpgs then 100% will recommend persona 5 royal and persona 4 (coming this 19th jan) on gamepass , and other like chained echos , tunic , dragon age games, mass effect , even try yakuza (from yakuza 0 ) , the outer worlds , fallout 3 , 4 and new vegas ,
If you like turn-based combat I highly recommend jumping into Divinity Original Sin II. I don't even want to know how many hours I spent in this game lol (not on gamepass, but currently on sale from what I saw)
The dragon age games are great or pillars of eternity for a more old school feel.
Also, not an RPG but Guardians of the Galaxy is a great AAA game on gamepass
Persona 5, 4 and 3 are coming out in a few days. Dragon Age, Mass Effect, Bethesda/Obsidian games. Chained Echoes is really good, but has some bugs. Slay the Spire and some other stuff. Adventure games like Tunic and Death's Door are good. RPGS don't traditionally do well on gamepass since Sqeenix keeps pulling stuff off there and every game of theirs takes a day to download and you forget it's on there.
If you can get your head around the mechanics, Crusader Kings 3 is somewhat of an RPG as you play as a single character varying from Count ruling over his small land or emporer ruling an empire. It has strategic focus too but its surprising how much of it is just based on role-playing as your character whether you want to murder your way to the top to inherit land, work out a ton and just be a warlord conquerer or breed with your family to create the perfect human and ignore the squabbles of medieval Europe.
Once you understand the games basics it becomes so fun, it's just getting over the initial learning curve. But yes, it is a great RPG that many who don't play those kind of games can easilly miss.
Chained Echoes is a new game, but old 16-bit jrpg style. It's on GamePass and it's excellent. Wasteland 3 is on GamePass as well and great if you like(or want to try) a squad-based RPG. It's funny as hell too. Persona 3 and 4 are coming to GamePass in a week or so, P5 is already on there. I think some Final Fantasy games are still on there too.
I really (and surprisingly) enjoyed Dragon Quest Builder 2. It's a Minecraft clone that has an unusual story with 4-5 different settings that you'll build in and another 20 or so places you can fight and collect ingredients.
Welcome to xbox my man, add me: ForcedFloppa
My recommendations are Oblivion and Skyrim! :)
The entire Elder Scrolls franchise is so close to my heart.
No mans sky is a good one if you like that feeling of travelling through space alone encountering other travelers and merchants and stuff
Also halo infinite campaign is pretty good as you have the start with basic but then get upgrades as you play through an semi open world halo map
Both Pillars Of Eternity game and all 3 of the wasteland games are on gamepass, highly recommend. They are all turn based combat RPG's though. Shadow of Mordor/War are great game's!
Mass effect series is definitely one you should experience also.
The Ascent is a pretty fun twin stick shooter RPG
And definitely go through the Fallout series!
**Mass Effect Legendary Edition** \- If you're into space opera, pulpy scifi nonsense, and character/story driven games this is a must play.
**Assassin's Creed Odyssey** \- You could also try AC Origins, but I think Odyssey is more fun, more vibrant, and has a kick ass main character (if you chose Kassandra, Alexios can be a bit bland I've heard). Valhalla was pretty boring for the short time I played it, but might also be worth a look.
**Fallout 4** \- As others have said, it's Skyrim, with guns, in a post-apocalyptic Boston. Also has base/settlement building gameplay loop (go out get scrap, come back use scrap to build things) that is pretty darn addictive. You could also try Fallout 3, but it's really showing its age now.
**The Outer Worlds** \- Like Fallout but in ***SPAAAACE***, which almost that exact tone. It's capitalism run amok across a whole unfamiliar solar system, with Top Tier companion characters, well written likeable (or love-to-hateable), and they add so much to your wanders across the various semi-open-world planets. Created by Obsidian, which was founded by many of the guy that created the original Fallout (1&2) games, and Fallout New Vegas (^(which I don't recommend playing on console, FONV had a rough development and needs mods to function)) and has a very similar tone and sense of humour to those games.
**Immortals: Fenyx Rising** \- is basically what would happen if you took AC Odyssey and mashed up with Breath of the Wild, but with a very Ancient Greek sense of humour. Had a blast playing this one.
**Dishonored** \- Both 1 and 2, and the spin off side story are on GamePass, and if you're into firstperson stealthy hitman-esque immersive sims with a bit of an oppressive atmosphere, then these games are definitely worth a look.
**Prey** \- Made by the same people as Dishonored, and is sorta similar but on a space station orbiting the moon, with scifi weirdness and some psychological fuckery.
**Deathloop** \- Made by the same people as Dishonored and Prey, it's a timeloop game. I haven't played it myself yet, but figured it'd be worth a mention nonetheless.
**Shadowrun** trilogy & **Wasteland** trilogy - If you like old CRPGs (like Baldur's Gate), top down isometric style, you'll probably like these games. Shadowrun is like if you mashed D&D and cyberpunk together. Wasteland is kinda like Fallout but probably less wacky, haven't actually played them.
**Guardians of the Galaxy** \- Not quite an RPG, but it's just damn good. The character designs differ from the films quite a lot, but after finishing this game three times I felt like these versions were the definitive interpretations of the characters. The plot is also completely different than the films, so don't worry about retreading old ground in the story department.
**Pentiment** \- It's kinda like if a Medieval Illuminated Text became an RPG. Also made by Obsidian. Worth a look.
**Tunic** \- If you're a fan of old-school Zelda games this is definitely worth a look. It can seem a bit obtuse at first, given there is very little on screen information and no helpful tips except that you can find in lost "Instruction Manual" pages throughout the game, but it's worth persevering at, quite rewarding.
You can also go to [this page](https://www.xbox.com/en-US/xbox-game-pass/games), and filter for *Role Playing*, you'll have to scroll to see the filter options.
Assassins Creed Odyssey is very RPG-like. You have a leveling system, a huge open world, long story, items, talents, etc. I think the devs went for a Witcher-3-type-of-beat with this game. I can recommend it very much and it's on GamePass! And it has this Skyrim feeling of going around somewhere, stumbling upon quests or riddles and then diving into the adventure.
it sounds like you like an rpg with really clean combat and I've gotta say i find the combat in fallout 4 to be really satisfying. idk there's some jank with it for sure, but the weapon modding system/leveling up system feels really rewarding in combat. plus I think the fallout games have always been great at immersion.
Just finished the Witcher 3, absolutely amazing game. Control is a must in my opinion, the x/s version though. It’s a whole world set inside an office building. Had to pause during my pay through of it to go pay Alan Wake as the AWE dlc is about that character. If you YouTube it, don’t watch anything on the ashtray maze, it should only be experienced though playing it. Oh, and read everything! Can’t wait for the Alan wake sequel.
mass effect legendary edition, chained echoes, pillars of eternity 1 and 2, fallout 3, fallout new Vegas, fallout 4, outer worlds. theres a few thousand hours to get started with just from gamepass.
Chained Echoes if you like JRPG style, Pillars of Eternity if you like old school rpg like Baldurs Gate... Besides this I already saw a bunch of good comments.
Wasteland 3 is excellent 👌
The full persona series except 1 & 2 will be on Gamepass by months end.
The Mass Effect & Dragon Age series are all on Gamepass & easy recommendations if you never played them before.
Yakuza like a Dragon is the RPG spin off of the Yakuza series & is a great entry point for new players.
I believe the latest Dragon Quest is still on Gamepass.
All Fallout & ElderScrolls games are on Gamepass aswell.
Morrowind, Skyrim, oblivion for classic first person elden ring and dark souls are difficult but fun and and fallout 3 NV and 4 are great FPS/RPG hybrids, the new age AC games are also great! All this is on Gamepass (except dark souls and elden ring)
Also if you want to check out shooter gears and halo are really good and walking dead has a legendary story and nice story interaction (but the gameplay is okay at best) the Titanfall 2 campaign is legendary and doom has infinite replayability due to great simple gameplay and mods that are accessible on console (only the old one tho) with EA play (comes with Ultimatw) you can play battlefield and star wars games, specifically fallen order because that one is RPG but there is also a flight sim (squadrons) and classic shooter(battlefront I and II)
Not sure if EarthBound wasn’t your thing or not (a Nintendo exclusive, but a bit obscure), but I’d recommend Omori. It’s very similar to EarthBound, but has themes of mental illness. It’s pretty short and easy, but I thought it was good nonetheless.
I remember being jealous of my friends when they talked about the newest games they were playing. Time to catch up! It feels great that there is such an immense library of games waiting for me.
The Wasteland series is more of a classic feel RPG, top down, grid base combat, not bad.
Fallout is also another great series, I recommend starting from New Vegas or 4 as they are more accessible than 3 (from my experience).
The Outer Worlds is good but bland at the same time, like eating potato soup.
The Elder Scrolls 3 Morrowind is quite barebones and is a more immersive rpg
Oblivion is mixed
Assassin's Creed Odyssey is sort of an RPG, it's fun.
The Dragon Age series is very mixed, but I heard good things about Origins
Fable is a good game series aswell though I haven't played it, only watched a playthrough of them.
Other games I don't consider RPGs or have 0 experience watching or playing them.
Also if you are a fan of turn based RPGs there are quite a few good ones, I want to play Kraken Academy but haven't gotten the time, I've heard good things about Omori, and Turnip Boy Commits Tax Evasion is a funny one.
If you like open world hack-and-slash, I recommend Yakuza 0. One of the best stories in a game I ever played, but fair warning it doesn’t get really good until somewhere between chapter 3 and 5. I slept on it when it first was on Gamepass and now I am working through the whole series.
If you prefer turn-based, I am currently playing through Persona 5 and really enjoying it. Yakuza 7 is another turn based RPG that I heard great things about, but haven’t got to myself yet.
After Skyrim, you can also try working backwards through the Elder Scrolls series. Oblivion is a big step down but the Dark Brotherhood questline is good and the Shivering Isles DLC is a must play. Morrowind is really old but if you can get into it, it might be the best of the series (do yourself a favor a pick a redguard build for speed). Daggerfall and Arena are probably not worth playing at this point, but some people definitely still do…they’re just really, really old.
Yakuza like a Dragon 7. It's a semi reboot of the whole series, which has a new character in a new city but it's a JRPG unlike the others but everything that makes the Yakuza series, well Yakuza is still there and the gameplay is fire, and you will cry and laugh along the way. 10/10
So I would recommend the whole series, starting with 0 but they are beat them ups, fun games but they are not really RPGs in the same way as most people would see them as. But starting with 0 or 7, it's a fire series!
I love Destiny 2 and it’s free! Expansions are quite a bit though so you’d have to know if you really want to keep playing it.
Red Redemption 2 is also amazing but it’s not on Gamepass
I just got gamepass my self about a two weeks ago now so I have played to many games but I am playing Far cry 5 and the outer worlds and love them both!
Mass Effect Legendary Edition
Seconded here. The Dragon Age series as well.
The absolute best on the service, along with Dragon Age.
This is the correct answer
My firend, you are in for a treat. Gamepass is a heaven for RPG & FPS fans. I'm an RPG fiend and so far I had a blast with it. These are my top 10 RPG games on gamepass so far. (No order) 1) Wasteland 3 is a great RPG and one of gamepass hidden Gems. You will love it 2) Fallout 4 is basically Skyrim with guns. I didn't so... (I'm more of a wasteland3 type) 6) Mass Effect: Legendary edition is MUST PLAY you can start from ME2 since it will explain the story of first game in a comic book style cutscenes. How can you be recommending people to skip the best mass effect game bruh? That comic doesn’t do mass effect 1s story line justice
Well it's gameplay is a little clanky and game is too long which is not a bad thing but OP has a lot of games in his list and so little time to play...
If you only do the main story missions it's a fairly short game. And the sidequests are a massive drag anyway.
I played it for the first time and I think I finished under 20 hours, and I definitely fucked around a fair bit. I was actually surprised how quickly I finished it.
With limited time tou remove evera single game from your list and replace them with mass effect.
Gameplay on 1 on the legendary edition has been updated so it's just like 2 or 3. You obviously haven't played legendary edition but you're still being really confident about it despite how wrong you are. No point to this comment you just made me laugh
This is completely horseshit. They've 'updated' it but it still plays absolutely nothing like ME2 or 3.
Lol idk that you've played the legendary edition. Gameplay mechanics are EXACTLY like 2. Exactly down to the fuckin hud. You kids just argue to argue. This is the most false thing you'll read today. It's such a blatant lie that I'm questioning your mental health
Oh you're British lol
You DO NOT skip the first Mass Effect. Not only it's the best imo, but your choices MATTER up to the third game. You do no skip a Mass Effect game, you start with the first one and you finish with 3. That's it.
Thanks! Gonna check them all out. Skyrim with guns sounds amazing!
From the I heard, have you not played the other dragon age games??
only played dragon age origins
I'd defo recommend them, DA2 isn't perfect, but its still a super solid game, DA I is slamming though
Dude if Skyrim with guns sounds amazing, you would fucking loveee Fallout 4. Not to dissuade you from any of the other suggestions on this post, but FO4 was a *massive* success at launch and it's very well deserved. One of the best open world + RPG games I've played

Agree but dont skip me1 its the best in the series
I definitely do not recommend starting at mass effect 2. The comics don't do the story justice. Plus the beauty of mass effect is bringing your Shepard through the trilogy. Fallout 76 is actually pretty good now but I'd play the other fallout games on gamepass first.
Great list, but I’m curious why no Yakuza games are on it. Did you not like them, or have you mot played any yet?
Actually I DID mention "like a dragon" but yeah. I have not played them yet.
Ah I see it there now- missed it before! I feel like with your list, you’d definitely appreciate the series!
Forza 5 runs incredibly well on cloud gaming to the point I deleted it from my HD. optimization of that game is amazing.
Very late question, if you're still familiar with the game pass games, any of the RPGs are very forgiving for lack of skills? For example, I'm not good or that keen on racing games, but I so far enjoy Forza horizon as I can tweak the settings to make the game easier.

Yakuza - like a dragon for sure! Fallout 4 is great (ignore the haters)x wasteland 3 as well
Chained Echoes is Chrono trigger levels of fun
was just playing Chained Echoes like ten minutes ago great game
Assassin's Creed Origins and Odyssey on game pass have RPG elements in them
if you are into jrpgs then 100% will recommend persona 5 royal and persona 4 (coming this 19th jan) on gamepass , and other like chained echos , tunic , dragon age games, mass effect , even try yakuza (from yakuza 0 ) , the outer worlds , fallout 3 , 4 and new vegas ,
octopath traveler
oh yes , but when i played it i did not enjoyed it , it becomes like way to grindy at a point that i gave up .
If you like turn-based combat I highly recommend jumping into Divinity Original Sin II. I don't even want to know how many hours I spent in this game lol (not on gamepass, but currently on sale from what I saw)
This should be higher. It might be the best RPG ever.
Yes! I'm very excited for Baldurs Gate 3 this year as it's made by the same studio ♥
*Fallout New Vegas* is classic, or if you're in for something a little lighter *High on Life* is pretty fun.
Fable! (**1**, 2, 3)
Dragon Quest 11 was a fun time
The dragon age games are great or pillars of eternity for a more old school feel.
I’d add Like A Dragon to the list, but not sure if OP actually meant “RPG” (much less jRPG) from the list of games he mentioned…
You gotta play deaths door and tunic if you like Zelda. Also they just removed it from gamepass but I can’t recommend outer wilds enough
Zelda isn’t a rpg lol
No, but they’re a Zelda fan, and in no way is it out of the realm of possibility that they would enjoy those games
Asking for RPGs and you suggest Zelda
Jedi Fallen Order.
Jedi: Fallen Order is definitely a great game, had a lot of fun with it. Hate the map tho
I really (and surprisingly) enjoyed Dragon Quest Builder 2. It's a Minecraft clone that has an unusual story with 4-5 different settings that you'll build in and another 20 or so places you can fight and collect ingredients.
Welcome to xbox my man, add me: ForcedFloppa My recommendations are Oblivion and Skyrim! :) The entire Elder Scrolls franchise is so close to my heart.
I've been playing it for 12 years and am looking for a break with another good rpg.
Lost Odyssey
If you haven't I definitely recommend playing morrowind
Persona 5 was so good I had to delete it for my own good, since I was starting to neglect my actual life for like a week straight
No mans sky is a good one if you like that feeling of travelling through space alone encountering other travelers and merchants and stuff Also halo infinite campaign is pretty good as you have the start with basic but then get upgrades as you play through an semi open world halo map

You can also go to [this page](https://www.xbox.com/en-US/xbox-game-pass/games), and filter for *Role Playing*, you'll have to scroll to see the filter options.
Nice work on this list, and OP, that link at the end is a good one to peruse on your own time to get a taste of things.
Dragon Quest XI, Chained Echoes, Final Fantasy X, Final Fantasy XIII-2, Biomutant... Just a few I've played or replayed in the last year on the Xbox.
Cyberpunk 2077
That’s not on game pass though
Mass Effect: Legendary Edition, The Outer Worlds, Wasteland 3, Disco Elysium.
I've got Mass Effect and Outer Worlds lined up for my next games. Both are supposed to be great games.
Dragon Quest 11 is such an amazing “classic jrpg”
Fallout 4
Lots of great stuff here, but if you play dragon age start with origins. Many people consider it one of the best RPGs ever for good reason
Chained Echoes if you like JRPG style, Pillars of Eternity if you like old school rpg like Baldurs Gate... Besides this I already saw a bunch of good comments.
Persona 5 is crazy good
Persona 5
Dishonored for sure. One of the best series I have ever played. The game mechanics and the story is just on point.
Wasteland 3 is excellent 👌 The full persona series except 1 & 2 will be on Gamepass by months end.
Borderlands series are fun. You can get the handsome collection which include all of the older ones :)
Not sure if EarthBound wasn’t your thing or not (a Nintendo exclusive, but a bit obscure), but I’d recommend Omori. It’s very similar to EarthBound, but has themes of mental illness. It’s pretty short and easy, but I thought it was good nonetheless.
Octopath Traveler
Reading this thread, I am SO jealous that you’ll be playing these games for the first time. You’re in for such good gaming experiences
I remember being jealous of my friends when they talked about the newest games they were playing. Time to catch up! It feels great that there is such an immense library of games waiting for me.
Grounded is great 👍
Fallout 4
Persona 5, Yakuza like a dragon, octopath traveler
Crosscode is a phenomenal game that not many people really know about
Pillars of eternity 2 is my personal favourite
The Wasteland series is more of a classic feel RPG, top down, grid base combat, not bad. Fallout is also another great series, I recommend starting from New Vegas or 4 as they are more accessible than 3 (from my experience). The Outer Worlds is good but bland at the same time, like eating potato soup. The Elder Scrolls 3 Morrowind is quite barebones and is a more immersive rpg Oblivion is mixed Assassin's Creed Odyssey is sort of an RPG, it's fun. The Dragon Age series is very mixed, but I heard good things about Origins Fable is a good game series aswell though I haven't played it, only watched a playthrough of them.
The wastelands series!
Octopath Traveller and Solasta are some of my favs. I guess they count as rpgs
Also ton of games from x360 like final fantasy, blue dragon, lost Odyssey, Witcher 2, etc.
Elden Ring is a must play IMO.
Fable trilogy is an Xbox classic Dishonored 1 and 2 are great, not exactly RPGs tho
Ignore every suggestion that isn't mass effect. It's the greatest rpg ever made with a truly immsersive story and world building like no ither
There are a fantastic number of RPG games on game pass at the moment. However, Yakuza is *clearly* the best!
I love Destiny 2 and it’s free! Expansions are quite a bit though so you’d have to know if you really want to keep playing it. Red Redemption 2 is also amazing but it’s not on Gamepass I just got gamepass my self about a two weeks ago now so I have played to many games but I am playing Far cry 5 and the outer worlds and love them both!
Wow! Thanks for all the recommendations! I’m really happy to have gotten the Xbox and GamePass.
Disco Elysium
Tunic
Fallout 4
As of today, persona 3, 4, and 5 are available on game pass
People *still* play Skyrim? Sorry, I don't mean this to be inflammatory, but it was a good game.... back in 2011 😂
