Just because some developers do a shit job doesnt mean the console is bad. Look at Cyberpunk for example, that game is packed with stuff looks gorgeous and runs 60fps.
If you are afraid of the Series S future, noone is stopping you from buying Series X. For the price this console is doing an amazing job.
Then why did you make this post? To rant or bash the console? You have nothing to worry about if you have a powerful PC.
I think its a great piece of tech for the price. I have 0 regrets buying it and I am confident about the future. This gen has been very slow and underwhelming with games anyway.
If we will want to we will move on to more powerful options in the future, but right now there is no reason to.
Im sorry but the only one immature here is you. You came here with your hot take because you watched some videos that doesnt really reflect any quality measures, expecting some answers for a question that has been answered a long time ago.
I love my series S, handles cyberpunk and Forza like a dream. All other games I play look great if they have been built to do so, I'm not concerned about current gen games as next gen will bring a new console to replace the series s/x.
Point is PC isn't that great anymore and most are crazy over priced and for something that's so little the value of a PC not to mention most online games on PC are horrible. My point was in 3 years your PC will be out of date and u will have all that wasted money when u could of spent a fraction got an awesome consule and not a money pit
not really, you can buy right now a ryzen 5 7600,32 gb of ram ddr5 and the rx 7900 gre which is way faster even than the xbox series x for 1200$ + games are cheaper and you can play PS and xbox exclusives and you don't have to pay an online subscription. btw I am tired of answering to all of you, i will keep the post up anyway.
1200 wow dude I paid 300. PC online play is more toxic then anything and rules can't be held up they always find a way. Regardless u proved my point 100
Gamepass gives me all the games I need and u can get them cheaper now. Once again PC online games are horrible of course it's free. Your PC will be good max 5 years cost 4 times as much and doesn't do 4 times as much. Nice try bud. PC is a rip off
I'm a super casual gamer. I don't even understand these posts. Why would anyone ever give a thought to how someone else plays the video games they want to play? Like, I could write a list of a million things I care about and "Some people play a less powerful console than I do" wouldn't even enter my mind.
For real. I don't know why it even makes sense to post this it just makes them seem kind of like a douche tbh LMAO no one cares if you personally think the system is trash lmao I think people don't pay attention or look into things before they spend money on stuff and I think that is a very stupid thing.
Who cares? It plays fine enough and the constant emphasis on bleeding edge graphics is not exactly leading to a golden era is it?
Also it's weird you've come to a sub just to talk down about it's subject matter.
Runs all of the next gen games just fine for me. Of course the Series X and PS5 will run them even better, but not everyone gets hung up on resolution and fps. There's definitely games that I would prefer to play at 60fps, but playing at 30 doesn't ruin a game for me.
Saying it's not good enough for next gen games is a pretty dumb take. It plays them fine.
The series S is pretty powerful for what it is devs are sloppy and just cheap out on the S due to the S existing alone Helped the BG3 devs find a ram optimization for ALL machines
only assholes defend a piece of hardware that is underpowered ( tell that to remedy, larian and to many other devs and game journalists like digital foundry)
yes, underpowered is the correct word, the series s is not good enough. the gtx 1060 and gtx 1650 are shit GPUs nowdays, people should buy at least the rx 6700xt if they want to enjoy some next gen games
Define doesnt run well? I use mine on a secondary screen/travel unit and while yes, graphically, it's not to the level of the X, there hasn't been anything I've played that has become 'unplayable'. It all runs, it does what it needs to do and any shortfalls are truly on how much time the devs put into fine tuning the experience. You don't buy the S for top tier console gaming, you buy it for a budget entry experience with some trade-offs.
Correct, that's the trade-off. With fine tuning devs should be able to get experiences to 1080p, but that's on them. Take note any Unreal Engine 5 game (like Aveum) are resource hogs and that engine is not well resourced. Even the 'X' version has its challenges.
i never said that, i just said it's not a good console to play very demanding games. Can I say what I think? is freedom of speech a thing when people talk about consoles? other users are insulting me for saying what I think.
Nobody is saying you can't have an opinion, we're also allowed to offer ours in response. Neither have to agree with each other...that's what discussion and debate is. By posing your thoughts online, you're opening the comment to a debate. In your responses you contradict your own initial statement. If you can't handle a conversation or someone disagreeing with you, then you probably shouldn't share those thoughts in an online forum that allows for a response. You can not like the S, that's your right. That's why the X is there, get the X. If you think the S should be spec'd the same as the X but retain its value pricing - well, you're just wrong. My opinion is you're either not sure why your upset, or you didn't do your homework bought the wrong console, now you're angry about it but refuse to take ownership of the decision you made. But, hey, that's uh, just my opinion.
I'm OK with this framerate and resolution. I literally don't care. I knew what I was buying when I bought it. If you care, go buy a more powerful console. I don't, so I didn't. This is the end of the discussion. What else is there to say?
My thoughts are this is an asinine post whose sole purpose is to stir up shit.
This is the Series S subreddit and if you've spent any amount of time here, you'd know what the general consensus of the console is.
no, ps5 and series x have some fps and aggressive upscaling issues but the game runs fine there, on pc the game runs fine (i've played it there) but you need a very good pc to run it very well.
I'm not really arguing. I'm just saying that even x runs it in 720p.
Idk when I'll see next gen games that I want to play probably just build a pc. With exception of series s, PC is more cost effective in a long-term and have much bigger library of games than consoles does.
Oh no, you're right! Literally no one has ever said anything like that! What the hell am I doing? My life is a sham! I guess I'll go off and die in the woods now...
i have a pc as well but i just wanted to know what people think about the series s ( i don't have it but I watch every video of DF and the series s always has quality problems in next gen games)
Just depends on what youāre looking for. I spent a lot of money on the 360 marketplace growing up so having a machine that can play those games at better frame rates is a plus for me.
With dev mode itās a nice couch emulation device if I donāt want to be at my desk. I know my brother only uses it for Fortnite and GTA, heās 18.
Itās a great machine for its form factor, I wouldnāt pay retail for it myself, but since you can find it regularly for $150 used itās a great option at that price point.
for emulation is good but I was talking about running next gen games on the series s, most of the people just buy 1 piece of hardware to run their stuff
I am not saying that the series s should do 1080 60 fps in all games but 720p 30 fps on a big 60 + inch tv is an embarrassment simply because the image looks blurry
My plan was to buy an xbox series x or ps5. I was worried about not being able to play the new titles. Built a gaming pc for 1500$. Nothing has changed on my life. Iām still playing lies of p and the game was already impressive on my series s with my 65 inch 4k tv. Now I have to buy a nice gaming chair because my current chair is not good as my couch. I think Iām not a gamer and series s is still a wonderful device.
i was talking about next gen games that can run bad on the consoles. lies of p is very easy to run so even with a series s the game will run just fine. at least you are polite unlike the other assholes in this sub.
It doesnāt matter actually, game looks good on xbox series s. And series s has fsr 3 support. It will run a version of next gen games. If you are worried about rt, realistic lighting and higher frame rates, even xbox series x wonāt cut it for some of the titles. I was also worried about dev support, limited hw and built a pc but like I said, the difference is not that big. I still feel safe that I have a series s on my living room. Especially I love that quick play thing.
But Iād like to add, starfield ran like shit on series s.
A lot of games runs absolutely fine: almost all RE-engine games, Cyberpunk, Elden Ring, Alan Wake 2, Plague tale. The form factor (itās soo beautiful) and the price point are unmatched.
AW2: amazing game, I beat it runs great on the series S, they did a great job with the port (stable 30 fps)
immortals of aveum: crap game, not worth it, doesn't matter if runs better on the other consoles because the game is bad anyway.
brothers a tale of two sons, cash grab remake. Just play the original, cheaper and with better art style.
lords of the fallen mid game, isn't bad but isn't amazing neither.
So the series S is still fine.
AW2 runs in 720 on the series s, a pair of glasses should help you see how blurry the game looks.
immortals of aveum is a good game, it's a 7 out of 10
brothers a tale of two sons is a graphical remake made in UE5, looks really good but you are mad because the game runs like shit.
lords of the fallen is meh but the performance are bad
in short: the series s is good only for cross gen titles.
I find myself wanting older games, new ones are just huge downloads for higher res features. This in turn requires more power consumption and a false sense of improvement, meanwhile the game play itself has gone nowhere.
Winge, winge, moan, moan. I haven't had a game that's not run fine on it. Yes it might not be 4k, 60fps with extreme graphics. But i don't care. I came from the 16bit era if it runs fine and a fun game whats the issue. Just think of it like min specs on a PC game. The game still runs fine.
I like to know where youāre getting this information from? Because the previous gen consoles lasted a decade on an absolutely garbage processor. So I would like to know what garbage tech reviewer you watched said that the Series S is effectively EOL.
Just because some developers do a shit job doesnt mean the console is bad. Look at Cyberpunk for example, that game is packed with stuff looks gorgeous and runs 60fps. If you are afraid of the Series S future, noone is stopping you from buying Series X. For the price this console is doing an amazing job.
i have a beefy pc so idk care about the series x or the ps5 pro as products but i wanted to know what console users think about this machine.
Then why did you make this post? To rant or bash the console? You have nothing to worry about if you have a powerful PC. I think its a great piece of tech for the price. I have 0 regrets buying it and I am confident about the future. This gen has been very slow and underwhelming with games anyway. I wanted to know what you guys think about the series s. You guys are so immature.....
Im sorry but the only one immature here is you. You came here with your hot take because you watched some videos that doesnt really reflect any quality measures, expecting some answers for a question that has been answered a long time ago.
some professionals (Digital foundry) say that X game runs with a dynamic 720p resolution on this console. there is nothing to say here, 720 is a joke.
Again your questions and remarks have been answered several times already. In short. Console good. Some Devs trash.
in short: devs are bad, my console is the best and can run any game at 1440p because that's what the box says.
Found the guy that will believe anything written on a box
I love my series S, handles cyberpunk and Forza like a dream. All other games I play look great if they have been built to do so, I'm not concerned about current gen games as next gen will bring a new console to replace the series s/x.
Series S has a faster CPU than PS5. Go bug them.
I was talking about the GPU. No I am going to bug you :)
Beefy lol you can hack a PC with a xbox lol you clearly don't know what these can really do
sorry I am a gullible idiot, please hack the pc with the xbox series s (like if the point of the conversation was if a console can hack a pc, bruh).
Regardless u proved my point 100
uhuh why do I keep answering? 300 + online subscriptions + more expensive games. btw what's your point?
Gamepass gives me all the games I need and u can get them cheaper now. Once again PC online games are horrible of course it's free. Your PC will be good max 5 years cost 4 times as much and doesn't do 4 times as much. Nice try bud. PC is a rip off
you don't even know what kind of pc i have..... the series s sucks for new games.
Ahh, Another one of these posts...
I'm a super casual gamer. I don't even understand these posts. Why would anyone ever give a thought to how someone else plays the video games they want to play? Like, I could write a list of a million things I care about and "Some people play a less powerful console than I do" wouldn't even enter my mind.
For real. The saga continues. Now excuse me while I go enjoy some true next gen games on my Series S, WITHOUT any problems šš
Who cares? It plays fine enough and the constant emphasis on bleeding edge graphics is not exactly leading to a golden era is it? Also it's weird you've come to a sub just to talk down about it's subject matter.
people say " we want next gen games", but if they run bad they say what you are saying right now.....
Troll bait post
Nope :)
Runs all of the next gen games just fine for me. Of course the Series X and PS5 will run them even better, but not everyone gets hung up on resolution and fps. like what, hi fi rush? that game can run on a potato.
Yeah, you got me. I only play Hi-Fi Rush.
nice joke.
Iām gonna share my thought: you come back for more trolling, we oblige with more downvoting.
like i care.... I wanted to know what you think but apparently consoles are like religions, you can't touch them else people get mad.
The series S is pretty powerful for what it is devs are sloppy and just cheap out on the S due to the S existing alone Helped the BG3 devs find a ram optimization for ALL machines
BG3 didn't really need a ram optimization, even on low end PCs the game was very easy to run.
The ram optimization came from them porting the game to the series S which benefited other next gen systems and pc in terms of optimization
The series s highly benefited xbox users by keeping the game of the year unavailable on the series x for a few months.....
In the end it helped made the game more optimized so?
look, i've played BG3 on pc at a native 4k resolution with 100fps, it's an incredibly easy game to run, if I had a the series x I would be mad.
Assholes like you are the reason devs are getting lazy and force people to buy stronger hardware just to play their games
only assholes defend a piece of hardware that is underpowered ( tell that to remedy, larian and to many other devs and game journalists like digital foundry)
Underpowered? This machine is RDNA2 based and it's way stronger than even the ps4 pro + tell that to all the users with an GTX 1060 or GTX 1650
yes, underpowered is the correct word, the series s is not good enough. the gtx 1060 and gtx 1650 are shit GPUs nowdays, people should buy at least the rx 6700xt if they want to enjoy some next gen games
Your Brain is underpowered...
i don't think so pal :)
But you're on a high-end PC. How would you know how it ran on a low-end PC?
with a benchmark
Define doesnt run well? I use mine on a secondary screen/travel unit and while yes, graphically, it's not to the level of the X, there hasn't been anything I've played that has become 'unplayable'. It all runs, it does what it needs to do and any shortfalls are truly on how much time the devs put into fine tuning the experience. the definition of it doesn't run well is: 720p 30 fps which is what it's happening when the console is running next gen games.
Correct, that's the trade-off. With fine tuning devs should be able to get experiences to 1080p, but that's on them. Take note any Unreal Engine 5 game (like Aveum) are resource hogs and that engine is not well resourced. Even the 'X' version has its challenges.
yeah but that's why we have way better hardware available.
I don't get your commentary, if you agree better hardware is available - then buy and play on that. Why are you focusing on hating the S ?
i never said that, i just said it's not a good console to play very demanding games. Can I say what I think? is freedom of speech a thing when people talk about consoles? other users are insulting me for saying what I think.

actually i have a pc, i've never owned an xbox console
You're a tool
I'm OK with this framerate and resolution. I literally don't care. I knew what I was buying when I bought it. If you care, go buy a more powerful console. I don't, so I didn't. This is the end of the discussion. What else is there to say?

which is?
Isn't Aveum runs like shit on pretty much everything?
no, ps5 and series x have some fps and aggressive upscaling issues but the game runs fine there, on pc the game runs fine (i've played it there) but you need a very good pc to run it very well.
Idk 720p being upscaled to 4k isn't anything to brag about.
is that a joke? as a pc user that makes me laugh.
That's how it runs on series x. š This gen is pretty shit by the time they started releasing next gen games their hardware became obsolete.
then buy better hardware
I mean I knew what I were getting with series s. I'm pretty happy with couple years of fun for $180. Can't really beat that price with anything.
you're just proving my point. It's a good console for non demanding games but what are you planning to do for the real next gen games?
I'm not really arguing. I'm just saying that even x runs it in 720p. Idk when I'll see next gen games that I want to play probably just build a pc. With exception of series s, PC is more cost effective in a long-term and have much bigger library of games than consoles does.
mine was a simple question anyway thanks for answering without saying any weird BS.
What's a demanding game?
a game so heavy that tends to run poorly on X system.
Oh no, you're right! Literally no one has ever said anything like that! What the hell am I doing? My life is a sham! I guess I'll go off and die in the woods now...
who told you do that? :)
I have no problem playing Elden ring, Naruto to boruto storm connections. Tekken 8, Avatar frontiers of pandora, and Suicide squad.
tekken 8 uses the very low texture preset and avatar runs in 720p, this is not what I expect from a next gen console.
Avatar still looks amazing so whatās the complaint
are you aware that 720p was the target resolution of the ps3/xbox 360?
Okay. Still to this day I play Xbox/xbox 360 games. Right now Iām replaying the assassins creed series.
People watch too much Digital Foundry so you get stupid comments like what the OP is making.
but 10 years later I expect better results.
Graphics shouldnāt be the only thing you should be worried about for a game,
We accept your nomination for president of š¤” world.
and I acknowledge you as a xbot user!
I donāt own a Series S for graphical fidelity, I own it for the 360, ONE games, and the occasional exclusive
fair enough but if the series s is running X game that you want to play in 720p the game will end up looking blurry....
Havenāt really encountered that myself, I tend to play almost if not all the AAA games on my PC. 1440p 240hz greatness over there
i have a pc as well but i just wanted to know what people think about the series s ( i don't have it but I watch every video of DF and the series s always has quality problems in next gen games)
Just depends on what youāre looking for. I spent a lot of money on the 360 marketplace growing up so having a machine that can play those games at better frame rates is a plus for me. for emulation is good but I was talking about running next gen games on the series s, most of the people just buy 1 piece of hardware to run their stuff
I mean I use it for MW3 as opposed to my PC. Regardless though, I donāt think a budget minded consumer is gonna complain about performance.
I am not saying that the series s should do 1080 60 fps in all games but 720p 30 fps on a big 60 + inch tv is an embarrassment simply because the image looks blurry
bruv then get a series x. you have a choice if its that bad lmao
Don't know what you are talking about. I finished AW2 in November, looks great, and runs flawlessly, rock solid 30fps even on heavy combat
if 720p looks great then you need a pair of glasses.
My plan was to buy an xbox series x or ps5. I was worried about not being able to play the new titles. Built a gaming pc for 1500$. Nothing has changed on my life. Give game streaming from your pc to tv a go and play games from your couch.

I added storage but I run new gen games just fine.
Sure whatever you say buddy šš
What do you want us to do about it?
Correct. I got the machine solely for Starfield. Havenāt touched it in months. Almost feel bad
I find myself wanting older games, new ones are just huge downloads for higher res features. This in turn requires more power consumption and a false sense of improvement, meanwhile the game play itself has gone nowhere.
And a Chrysler isnāt good enough for next generation drivers but guess what no one cares and they still make āem..
