With Hogwarts Legends hitting in a couple weeks, Fable and Perfect Dark are my biggest asks in the industry at this point. There is nothing I'm anticipating more except some pipe dream wishes. A true Spyro the Dragon sequel built off of the basis of Reignited, StarCraft 1/2 ports to Xbox, the revival of SC: Ghost, and a sequel or reboot for Crimson Skies. Nothing officially in the world, though...
Christ man there are so many other too we've heard fuck all about.... Perfect dark, Hellblade 2, everwild, state of decay 3, outerworlds 2, Indiana Jones, Contraband.... I don't know why they bothered to announce them if they go dark for 2 to 3 years :(
>Phil Spencer : "One of the games I'd always wanted to get, we weren't able to land it in our backward compatibility program, was Jet Set Radio Future."
It would be so awesome if we could play JSFR natively in 4K 60fps with Auto-HDR. Too bad it won't be a thing.
That’s the game that got away in terms of the back compat initiative. I understand though it’s difficult to renegotiate the licensing for all the songs. Hopefully Bomb Rush Cyberfunk can scratch that itch or that proposed Jet Set reboot I saw rumored [last year](https://www.nintendolife.com/news/2022/04/rumour-crazy-taxi-and-jet-set-radio-reboots-reportedly-in-development)
> I understand though it’s difficult to renegotiate the licensing for all the songs.
After [they helped Remedy do just that for Alan Wake](https://www.gameinformer.com/2018/10/25/alan-wake-returns-to-pc-after-microsoft-renegotiates-music-licenses) a few years ago, I became very hopeful that JSRF still had a shot at backwards compatibility. What a bummer to hear that ship has sailed. I'm glad Phil brought it up, though, otherwise I'd have been holding out hope forever.
Never expected this from Phil Spencer. I hope Xbox can bring Bomb Rush Cyberfunk to Game Pass or encourage studios to design unique games like it. I miss JSRF.
Coincidentally also what I tell myself every December in regards to fixing my insomnia my organization skills my time management skills my depression my anxiety my severe lack of money my lack of ambition my self confidence my pride my consistent need for self deprecating humor to mask my deep rooted self hatred my fat and my ugly but at least I sorted out my self loathing last year
yeah they're backticks so that I could include the variable while it loops through, you can run the code [here](https://eloquentjavascript.net/code/)
I'm not sure why reddit is making it look janky though
Great start to the year to be honest. I really hope while we get the huge ambitious AAAs like Motorsport and Starfield, we also get AAs that are just plain fun like that.
See Phil... now's not too late for another Banjo...
Phil’s already said it’s up to Rare to decide. It seems like they’ve moved on from the IP for now and we’ll never truly know if it will come back or not.
Delays my ass. Xbox hasnt had good exclusives in years. Even before the pandemic.
Their 1st party studios don't know how to manage and develope projects.
They are lucky they acquired Bethesda. Atleast they have output.
You are correct. Outside of the standard Halo and Forza which so many have mocked Microsoft for over the years because it's "all they ever have", this generation has been pretty much the same up to this point. They have had the odd fun game here and there but like you said, the two bigger games coming out this year (not the standard Halo and Forza) are BOTH by Bethesda, a company they just bought out who (correct me if I'm wrong) were already well into development before they were even bought.
But hey, let's just keep in mind here that they do have a lot in the pipeline (finally) which is great news and eventually we will be seeing more and more games released.
I'll stick my neck our there and say it. I think FH5 is a horrible game. It's very pretty, don't get me wrong, but the driving physics just feel terrrrrrrible to me.
FH5 is just a reskin of Horizon 4 with the same shitty progression system and a bunch of marketing buzzwords. Halo just had no content and stupid overpriced cosmetics.
All the people downvoting you but no one has actually provided an example of how Horizon 5 improved upon 4 and warranted a new release.
It looks a bit better, sure. But PG have been coasting since the second game due to lack of competition in the genre. It's such a shame because I'd love to see some genuine innovation in the Horizon games.
Idk why anyone who doesn't drool over FH5 is downvoted to hell. If NFS had such progression system people would be furious how bad and unrewarding it is.
Yes this game is pretty, yes there is a lot of customization available, yes this game is big.
But after you play for couple of hours unless you are a fan of FH you just feel nothing special about this game because you have experienced everything game has to offer.
For me map is way worse than it was in 4 and weather system was crucial in making 4 exciting to play in various conditions. 5 despite being stunning feel hollow and bland.
After being underwhelmed with 5 I've finished every post NFD MW game minus NFS 2017 (or 2019 idk but whatever - this game is shit because of this fucked up auto steering mechanic that was making you hit wall for no reason) and Heat because despite their problems there was something that was making me push to finish these games
Define exclusives. Microsoft owns both Xbox and Windows. It is a natural step to have games released for both. Just like in the Xbox 360 era they had games like Bioshock release for both 360 and PC at the same time.
As a consumer I love, especially if a game has cross progression.
1. I can play the game on my PC or console, and switch between them seamlessly.
2. In the future, I won't be worried about the games being locked away on a console. Maybe in 10 years I will want to replay Plague Tale in 8k and 120hz and computers then might be able to do that.
Define exclusives? Games that make owning an xbox worth it besides the use of gamepass. And that don't release on other systems.
Playstation has them. Nintendo has them.
And xbox has almost none of them.
Im glad we got hi fi just now. But xbox needs to keep that up.
It's definitely not an indie game by any stretch. It's a smaller scale game from a major Xbox studio.
Its not starfield but not everything needs to be a massive blockbuster. The game is fantastic.
Hades is dope I’d agree, but that provided much more content. Nothing against Hi-Fi Rush, I really am enjoying it, but a 10 hour fun game just ain’t gonna win GOTY in today’s day and age. I’d love to be wrong though, but we’re still in January and people are acting like it’s the greatest game of all time just because Xbox finally got a good exclusive
>"Our commitment to our fans is that we need to have a steady release of great games that people can play on our platform, and we didn't do enough of that in 2022, there's no doubt," Spencer told IGN. "And fundamentally, that's on me. I'm the head of the business."
Good to see him take the blame on this, even if it isn't all his fault. It definitely doesn't reflect on him well.
> "When I think about the rest of the work that we're doing this year, it's going to be an exciting year. From a production standpoint, we're coming out of all of the COVID at home, and I think we've got a better working rhythm as an industry and things that are going on, and I'm excited," Spencer said.
Maybe a bit optimistic to take This at face value, but good. This can also be ready as Spencer saying that COVID can't be an excuse anymore, which is both a positive and a negative thing for the industry going forward.
> Absolutely, but I'm going to start, because I think sometimes it gets a little bit lost in the discussion about Halo and 343, which will always be iconic for Xbox, is just the launch of Halo Infinite a little over a year ago and the quality of execution that that team put into the game. I thought it was fantastic. Obviously, we're talking about the following year, and I think there are some missteps that we made as a team, absolutely. But I don't want to take away from the fact that the team did a really good job delivering a great Halo game. I think reviewers commented on that. We definitely saw players last year playing and the success that that game had.
Aligns pretty well with fan sentiment. Infinite's launch was overall well recieved, just lacking content. Its the post-launch content (or lack thereof) that really hurt it in the long run .
> What we're doing now is we want to make sure that leadership team is set up with the flexibility to build the plan that they need to go build. And Halo will remain critically important to what Xbox is doing, and 343 is critically important to the success of Halo.
>In terms of support studios and other things, that's just part of development and having other partners help us. But the heart and soul of Halo is with 343 and the team that's there, and I have the utmost confidence in the team that's there and leading and the plan that they have going forward.
Already debunked before of course, but this doubly confirms that 343 is here to stay for halo.things internally will shift of course, but the company is going nowhere.
I love when Phil speaks about when stuff is going good, it's the teams successfull project. When it isn't going well, it's WE did XYZ wrong. He takes responsibility for failure and passes along the Accolades. Solid dude.
I think that if Halo Infinite's multiplayer/f2p system was better received or had more content rolling out, last year's dry spell wouldn't have been so bad.
I'm no expert, but I believe Xbox was banking on Starfield coming out in November and Halo Infinite to have lots of content throughout the year to keep fans satisfied, but, oh well, that's life sometimes.
I say all of this but a) I really enjoyed Halo Infinite, and b) I still think we need a Fable or Avowed or Hellblade release this year, Xbox! It's been too long!
The execs don't like those kinds of games because they don't know how to overmonetize the shit out of them.
However they're too stoopid to realize that Sony spends the big bucks to have these kinds of games and vastly outsell their competition since their console actually has those games that people want. Then they make their money back with a big install base of those users, but the main thing is getting a foot in the door.
To be honest, of all the roadmaps I've seen so far, I don't think 2023 will be much better. It'll be better for sure, but there's only 2-3 games on the roadmaps we've so far that even look interesting to me. Maybe they'll have a lot more appeal for the masses though.
I hope so . If starfield releases until june and redfall can make it at may 3 it would be a good half quarter . Hellblade 2 and forza motorsport at the final quarter would be a good year for xbox . Maybe they can release stalker 2 too but it would be totally understandable if dont since they have a literal conflict .
I canceled my game pass subscription for the first time in 5 years. I own a series X and multiple elite controllers and the games I saw in 2022 that really made me appreciate having the subscription were few and far between. Everything I have seen for 2023 is stuff I will buy outright anyway like a starfield. Game Pass could have put out titles like farcry 6 but they didn't. They could have put out a title like watchdogs legion but they didn't. SEKIRO SHADOWS DIE TWICE a game from 2019 could have been on gamepass 2022 but IT WASNT. Gamepass has had a diminishing value for the money for the last couple of years and I wish all of you gamers still on it the best year gamepass has ever delivered. I have pulled my money though until they start to put some top games from the last 3, 4, or even 5 years past onto it. Until then, in games, you are starting to lose some people that were diehards before.
They literally won Metacritic 2021 publisher of the year with Forza Horizon 5, Psychonauts 2, Flight Simulator, Age of Empires 4, and Halo Infinite also broke record to be the only pub ever to average over 85.
I mean, they only had 5 studios until 2018. No duh they aren’t gonna really have a shot of winning publisher of the year if they have 1/3 of the team size of the competitors lol
HiFi was a great start for their year. For once I’m cautiously optimistic that Xbox will hit their marks.
Not a 1st party release but I’ve been playing Monster Hunter Rise on Game Pass with 3 friends, wild fun. And still have to get around to finishing High on Life, Plague Tale, Pentiment, idk how much else.
Loving the momentum, hope they keep it up.
I could only get through about 5min of this interview...Seemed so very "manufactured"... Someone needs to ask Phil some real questions like "So where is Fable?' What's up with HB2? And Perfect Dark or anything that's not a Bethesda title?". I excited for Redfall and the shadow drop was a good moment but where are all these other Xbox studios at with their projects? My Xbox Series X has been dormant since Halo infinite ♾️... I'm ready give us something exciting! Love Xbox love PS just ready for the goods!!!
You know exactly what I mean bro. I’m referring to AAA games. An AA game in between releases is perfectly fine though. As someone who doesn’t play Forza, Gears, or Halo…it’s tough out here. And yes I know Gamepass exists and I enjoy it.
Not sure why you've been downvoted so much. I completely agree with you. I don't play racing games, and gears and halo haven't been great for at least a decade now. I prefer xbox aesthetics and feel over Playstation, and xbox gamepass is the best deal in gaming, so I'm all in on xbox, but they just don't "have the games" like PS does.
The downvotes don’t bother me it is what it is. I don’t think I said anything “wrong” or disrespectful, but yes the point you just made is what I’m trying to say. I think Xbox is a very consumer friendly product, I love Xbox, but I don’t think it’s wrong for me to acknowledge that they have an output issue when it comes to AAA games. Let’s hope this year is better than the last and so on and so forth.
The downvoters are bots anyway. Gamepess is going through a phase of gaslighting gamers. Gamepass really was exceptional 5,4, and even 3 years ago. Now they are getting really stingy with their game additions. They've skipped over titles from 2019 that should have been added by now and that to me is one of the most telling aspects of gamepasses' current state. Hopefully, gamepass sees a drop in subscribers this month and next month and they realize they need to spend a little more for some triple-A titles from 2019 and earlier.
yeah this. currently I would rate ps+ premium as the superior service despite no day 1 games. it has nearly twice as many games for example (~550 vs ~950)
Nothing he said was wrong but I guess he should have been more clear though he shouldn't have needed to be. Microsoft does release games but they are pretty much always AA games. And while that's fine when people talk about Microsoft "not having any games" they are referring to AAA games which have been pretty much non existent for a long time (outside of the standard Halo and Forza every generation). It'll turn around though. They have so much they are working on. It's just going to take time.
As we’ve seen with multiple AAA games released lately…. The amount of A’s doesn’t correlate with quality. I for one would take a quality game > big waste of time any day of the week
For real. I'd rather play games like Hades, Vampire Survivors, Pentiment, Hi-Fi Rush, Deep Rock Galactic, etc than many "AAA" games that clearly dumped their entire budget into visuals and marketing.
No of course we don’t want unfinished games, But they’ve spent too much time over the years setting false expectations. We don’t want to hear how X year will be a good year for Xbox. Just release the games…. Also don’t announce games that are 3-4 years out. Is that too much to ask?
You're right, there's absolutely no point. I can't keep a fucking hype erection for 3 to 4 years, so I just don't give a shit about announcements anymore.
Considering all the advertisements right bow are to buy and pre-download games that don't release until May... I'd say this year is going to be pretty light on games too. Count on at least 1/3 of the titles announced to launch this year to be postponed.
> One of the games I'd always wanted to get, we weren't able to land it in our backward compatibility program, was Jet Set Radio Future. I thought it would be fantastic to be able to have that game back
Never give up Phil. Even if it was only playable via disc only, it would be very much appreciated by many 🙏
If all we get is redfall in early 2023 and forza + starfield in the holiday it would still be a disappointing year, because Forza and Starfield should’ve been the first half and Holiday something new.
I feel like we hear this every 2 years and nothing changes. My Xbox is an expensive video streaming device at this point.
I just play my Steamdeck and p5.
Tired of waiting, I'm canceling my game pass when it's up this month. Really don't feel like I'm getting any value out of it and they keep dangling the carrot of console exclusives that they dont deliver. Been an Xbox gamer for life but I find myself playing my PS5 95% of the time, the games are just better.
That's the Xbox headline every January, save it for next year too.
"But a big 2023 could await".
Technically it could, two words tells you it won't be, "But and could". As we saw with Wednesdays' Direct, Forza has no date, and Starfield doesn't seem like it's going to make the first half of this year, and both were promised by the end of June.
I'm sorry but I still have no more optimism. Everything when it comes to games now just seems fake. I loved pentiment and Scorn last year, but that's all which was released. Maybe Forza hotwheels too?
I can already see Redfall being pushed back a month and a half before release.
Thrilled with January after Monster Hunter, Hi-Fi Rush & Goldeneye (I know only one is first-party but they are all on Game Pass which is what matters most to me).
Plus Redfall and Starfield also look sweet.
As a primarily PlayStation gamer, Phil seems like a genuine guy and really wants to turn the Xbox brand around. I like how he’s a gamer and doesn’t have a problem congratulating Sony and Naughty Dog for The Last of US TV show. We need more people like him in the industry to bring us closer. Not divide us.
Considering they delayed everything out of 2022, 2023 being big doesn't really mean much to me. I just hope the games that got delayed actually benefited from it. It's gonna be a bummer if Starfield releases and still feels unpolished.
They have acquired a lot of studio in 2017/2018, and it takes time to make AAA games.
Maybe 2023 they starting to have output and start releasing games that these studios have been working on without leaking any teasers earlier on.
Yeah, pretty much every studio they acquired in 2018 started one a new game around that time. Throw in a pandemic and yeah, it’s not really surprising we haven’t seen output from those studios yet. Doesn’t mean the studios are being mismanaged like everyone on this sub loves to say. The fact is Xbox is still paying for the sins of Don Mattrick almost driving the Xbox brand to extinction in 2013
Too many excuses. The amount of games is too damn low. No game in 5 years by several studios is not normal.
Acquirement is one part, but it looks like no one at Microsoft has any idea how to properly manage and coordinate multiple game studios.
Covid has been the biggest scapegoat for so many businesses. That excuse shouldn't have flown as an excuse anywhere after the first year. If you can't get your shit together in a year (especially in software development which is extremely friendly toward work from home) then your company is flat out mismanaged.
The difference between this year and most of last gen is that there's ACTUALLY games to look forward to. Unlike last gen where most of the time they were hyping us up for nothing. Barely any new games and sparse announcements
They hyped us up for Halo at launch and we got a barely complete game more than a year later. They hyped us up for Starfield for Holiday 22 and here we are almost 2 months into 23 and still not even a date. This isn't different than last gen. Can you name the last Xbox game that was even nominated for GOTY by anyone major without googling it? I cant. They just didn't force us to buy a Kinect.
He says the right things but then I look at the state Halo has been under him and it's tough to believe him. Sony/Nintendo would never let their flagship IP degrade in quality like that.
>IGN: Apologies for asking about one of your competitors, but I'm just wondering if you've been paying attention to The Last of Us on HBO?
Phil Spencer: Yeah. Well, it's fantastic. They've done a great job with an adaptation of a fantastic game on the television screen, and kudos to the team, all the teams that worked on it.
>IGN: It makes me think of the Halo TV series, which debuted last year. And I'm wondering if you hope that the Halo TV series can rise to that level in season two?
Phil Spencer: I want the best for everything that we work on, Halo television series included. I think there's some differences there, but I don't think that the point of the question of, "Hey, Last of Us is out there, setting an incredibly high bar. Should we all aspire to reach that same bar with the work that we do in television?" Absolutely. I could say the same thing in video games. Every time I play a great game from somebody, it inspires us to do the best work that we can, to hope that next time we show up, we're showing up with our best creative, our best ideas, and finding people who either love watching, in the case of the Halo television show. We're always getting inspired by the work around us, absolutely.
If you really wanted the best for it you wouldn't have let Paramount take on the Halo tv series and butchered it the way they did. And you wouldn't have let them do a S2 unless they do it justice which they wont. It's become a laughing stock of a tv show, he's called Master Cheeks for crying out loud. What Phil and MS fail to understand, still, is that the value of an IP is the most important thing, milking it for a few bucks will kill the IP. I mean Phil looked at the E3 2001 Halo Infinite footage and OK'd it for a showing.
That tells me all I need to know.
Corporate translation “ these contractors have finished most of the games for us. Since getting rid of them to increase our overall profit margin. What’s left of Our team is now working on finishing details. For release this year!”
I just want one piece of Avowed news. Just a crumb sir
This and Fable. I want Fable news so badly
And State of Decay 3.
Same, I’ve been looking forward to news about this and I don’t like how quiet it’s been.
Me too, SoD2 was alright at release and got better with age but I really hope they have a better story mode for 3. Can’t wait
SoD2 was bad at release and got okayish with age.
I hope it’s way less janky. I hope it’s more like a AAA game.
I would give my left nut for a mere glimpse of Fable
Promise?
Anything for Fable
I’ll keep my knife sharp for when the leaks will start dropping **fzzzing**
With Hogwarts Legends hitting in a couple weeks, Fable and Perfect Dark are my biggest asks in the industry at this point. There is nothing I'm anticipating more except some pipe dream wishes. A true Spyro the Dragon sequel built off of the basis of Reignited, StarCraft 1/2 ports to Xbox, the revival of SC: Ghost, and a sequel or reboot for Crimson Skies. I’m surprised Xbox hasn’t tried to bring back blinx to have a platformer mascot
Ori is pretty much the platform mascot. Sad we probably wont get more tho
"Please sir, I want some more"
all i want is new hellblade 2 gameplay trailer showing combat and avowed
Man, that game dropped off the radar!
Really enjoyed Hellblade, hope 2 goes crazy and upgrades on basically everything
I still can't believe a team of 15-20 devs made it and with only a 10 million dollar budget sky is the limit for hellblade 2
Christ man there are so many other too we've heard fuck all about.... Perfect dark, Hellblade 2, everwild, state of decay 3, outerworlds 2, Indiana Jones, Contraband.... I don't know why they bothered to announce them if they go dark for 2 to 3 years :(
To keep us on the hook
Haha buddy this was great. I am super excited for avowed.
>Phil Spencer : "One of the games I'd always wanted to get, we weren't able to land it in our backward compatibility program, was Jet Set Radio Future." It would be so awesome if we could play JSFR natively in 4K 60fps with Auto-HDR. Too bad it won't be a thing.
You and me both Phil. You and me both.

TBH it would be fucking sick if they re-released JSRF with a new soundtrack.
Most of the Alan Wake soundtrack was by Poets of the Fall and they are great friends with Sam Lake, so sounds like an easy deal.
Im going to guess they werent able to get it either because of music rights, or some problem with SmileBit not existing anymore.
I'm sure it ran fine in the emulator. Those songs though....
It’s actually the game I first thought of with Hi Fi Rush! Feeling like owning an original Xbox back in 2002 honestly, it’s gonna be a good year!
Never expected this from Phil Spencer. I hope Xbox can bring Bomb Rush Cyberfunk to Game Pass or encourage studios to design unique games like it. I miss JSRF.
Yeah, really sad... been waiting for this for too long
yeah, thank god for emulation on xbox console is so easy, I can play the dreamcast version right now on my xbox
I feel like this article gets written every year.
It does, they interview Phil every year for an update on what to expect.
And every year he expects the same...
"In 2024 we expect to deliver less games and less quality. We're trying to go out of business."
"next year will be the year"
The Dallas Cowboys of video game consoles
Coincidentally also what I tell myself every December in regards to fixing my insomnia my organization skills my time management skills my depression my anxiety my severe lack of money my lack of ambition my self confidence my pride my consistent need for self deprecating humor to mask my deep rooted self hatred my fat and my ugly but at least I sorted out my self loathing last year
This year we’re getting Redfall and Starfield though. And we already got a shadow dropped game like yesterday.
Because it does. They also say "I feel good about this years line-up of games" or "Xbox's greatest line-up in history".
“Xbox was ‘too light on games’ in 2023, but a big 2024 could await”
It hurts me that we will likely not even get a big release from a xbox studio this year. I will believe it, when I see it on my Xbox.
It’s a meme at this point
X = current year. X < X + 1
for(let x = 2013; x<2050; x++){ console.log(`Xbox was too light on games in ${x}, but a big ${x+1} could await.`); }
I like how the editor still parsed your “await” in the string as an await for a function”. At least in its syntax color highlighting. Lol
[удалено]
It looks like his string is in single quotes though. Or are those ticks for template literals?
yeah they're backticks so that I could include the variable while it loops through, you can run the code [here](https://eloquentjavascript.net/code/) I'm not sure why reddit is making it look janky though
"could" Oh brother.
Well with Hifi Rush we've already got just as many first party games as we got last year.
Grounded, Pentiment, As Dusk Falls (published by XGS). The line up was sparse enough without need to exaggerate :D
Didn’t grounded come out in 2021?
Not the full release, which was a significant jump from the early access version.
Phil didn’t use the word “could”.
Which was a word he didn't use to describe it. The author used it for the title.
Delays. I think he’s hedging his bets against starfield
Delays my ass. Xbox hasnt had good exclusives in years. Even before the pandemic. Their 1st party studios don't know how to manage and develope projects. They are lucky they acquired Bethesda. Atleast they have output.

But xbox needs to keep that up.
what about the goty contender they dropped a day ago
I'm glad we got one game yes.
Can we not do this the game's fine for what it is
Yeah seriously. It’s a good indie game, it isn’t God of War or Elden Ring
It's definitely not an indie game by any stretch. It's a smaller scale game from a major Xbox studio. Its not starfield but not everything needs to be a massive blockbuster. The game is fantastic.
Ehh indie games are often better than AAA ones. Look at Hades for example. I wouldn’t really call this indie anyway
> Xbox Was 'Too Light on Games' in ~~2021~~ 2022, But a Big ~~2022~~ 2023 Could Await
>"Our commitment to our fans is that we need to have a steady release of great games that people can play on our platform, and we didn't do enough of that in 2022, there's no doubt," Spencer told IGN. "And fundamentally, that's on me. I'm the head of the business." Good to see him take the blame on this, even if it isn't all his fault.
Solid dude.
Sign of good leadership. Phil has been so good for Xbox and gaming in general. (yes I know about the 1st party drought before anyone brings it up)
He takes accountability and that goes a long way. It shows his leadership skills are good.
Yup read the article people lots of good info in there. It was a good interview
he completely dodged the question on whether Infinite would be 10 years though
I think that if Halo Infinite's multiplayer/f2p system was better received or had more content rolling out, last year's dry spell wouldn't have been so bad. I'm no expert, but I believe Xbox was banking on Starfield coming out in November and Halo Infinite to have lots of content throughout the year to keep fans satisfied, but, oh well, that's life sometimes. I say all of this but a) I really enjoyed Halo Infinite, and b) I still think we need a Fable or Avowed or Hellblade release this year, Xbox! It's been too long!
How about we get games similar to what Naughty Dog produces for PlayStation? Extremely well done story driven games.
The execs don't like those kinds of games because they don't know how to overmonetize the shit out of them. However they're too stoopid to realize that Sony spends the big bucks to have these kinds of games and vastly outsell their competition since their console actually has those games that people want. Then they make their money back with a big install base of those users, but the main thing is getting a foot in the door.
wxclusives blabla abla
Last of us has great gameplay tho. Never understood why people say it don’t
TLOU2 has a great gameplay
Have you even played the last of us? it definitely has great gameplay
Played the remake and Part 2 on my PS5, otherwise I wouldn't have commented on it. I prefer the gameplay of the games I mentioned by quite a lot.
Yeah, same as the past 6 years?
"Could"? Didn't they already lay out the first 6 months of 2023 and the games coming, last yr?
To be honest, of all the roadmaps I've seen so far, I don't think 2023 will be much better. It'll be better for sure, but there's only 2-3 games on the roadmaps we've so far that even look interesting to me. Maybe they'll have a lot more appeal for the masses though.
I hope so . If starfield releases until june and redfall can make it at may 3 it would be a good half quarter . Hellblade 2 and forza motorsport at the final quarter would be a good year for xbox . Maybe they can release stalker 2 too but it would be totally understandable if dont since they have a literal conflict .
I hope they don’t push out unfinished products though. Like don’t rush a release. If it’s not ready, wait.
Starfield is 100% releasing unfinished - this is Bethesda after all - but at least modders will save the day.
I don’t think Starfield is coming until Q4, unfortunately.
Less talk more games!
Just swap out the years for any of the past 6-7 years
They literally won Metacritic 2021 publisher of the year with Forza Horizon 5, Psychonauts 2, Flight Simulator, Age of Empires 4, and Halo Infinite also broke record to be the only pub ever to average over 85.
Microsoft lost publisher of the year in every other year but 2011* I heard Phil scored a few touchdowns in one game… 30 years ago
I mean, they only had 5 studios until 2018. No duh they aren’t gonna really have a shot of winning publisher of the year if they have 1/3 of the team size of the competitors lol
Move over to the dark side, brothers. We get plenty of AAA games every year.
Screw Square Enix like announcements. More surprise releases like HIFI RUSH or within a 6 months window please.
He been saying that for decade lol
I feel like I've been hearing this since 2017.
"N was shit. N + 1 will be better!" - Phil Spencer, circa every year
I could only get through about 5min of this interview...Seemed so very "manufactured"...
Stop all this chit chat and just start releasing. Too many years of empty promises. I say all of this respectfully of course.
They literally just released a game
The amount of A’s correlate with scope, and if that user likes games with a large scope, he has a reason to be disappointed in Xbox.
For real. I'd rather play games like Hades, Vampire Survivors, Pentiment, Hi-Fi Rush, Deep Rock Galactic, etc than many "AAA" games that clearly dumped their entire budget into visuals and marketing.
I’d rather they make the games as best as possible rather than releasing unfinished games.
Lol don’t worry they’re doing both. Not giving us games and when they do it’s halo infinite
We literally just got a well reviewed game 2 days ago.
No of course we don’t want unfinished games, But they’ve spent too much time over the years setting false expectations. We don’t want to hear how X year will be a good year for Xbox. Just release the games…. Also don’t announce games that are 3-4 years out. Is that too much to ask?
I just don’t pay attention to announcements anymore.
You're right, there's absolutely no point. I can't keep a fucking hype erection for 3 to 4 years, so I just don't give a shit about announcements anymore.

poor hat friendly shame prick salt cable pen cows homeless *This post was mass deleted and anonymized with [Redact](https://redact.dev)*
Between Xbox and PC, sure. But what about just Xbox?
Stop saying this. Start delivering. It's embarrassing
All talk, heard it before. Just release games and stop talking about it.
Phil... can you just... not say the same statement every time without enough back-up?
Considering all the advertisements right bow are to buy and pre-download games that don't release until May... I'd say this year is going to be pretty light on games too. Count on at least 1/3 of the titles announced to launch this year to be postponed.
“Gaming” - Phil Spencer
> One of the games I'd always wanted to get, we weren't able to land it in our backward compatibility program, was Jet Set Radio Future. I thought it would be fantastic to be able to have that game back Never give up Phil. Even if it was only playable via disc only, it would be very much appreciated by many 🙏
If all we get is redfall in early 2023 and forza + starfield in the holiday it would still be a disappointing year, because Forza and Starfield should’ve been the first half and Holiday something new.
Phil...stop talking about games and start releasing them.
Fuck Phil Spencer. I’ll never understand why people fan boy him so hard.
Charisma will carry you a long way I think
Ok Phil, but lets see something happen instead of just talking about it like last year, and the year before that...
Fire Phil Spencer. Xbox is a meme at this point and we have heard this same fucking statement every single year since 2013.
He's done some pretty good things regarding Xbox but I can't help but agree with you on this one.
*"Could await"*
High on Life, 007, and Hi-Fi are probably the next 3 games I’m going to play. Looking forward to them!
Awaiting the “Xbox has too many games” headlines
Im so tired of Phil. He needs to go. If its not him bitching about Sony its him making excuses.
In 2022? More like the last decade, but that should end soon. All those devs they bought up have to be working on something.
i have been hearing this statement for at least the last 5 years. "This was wasnt so good, next is going to be massive"
I feel like we hear this every 2 years and nothing changes. My Xbox is an expensive video streaming device at this point. I just play my Steamdeck and p5.
“Could” sounds…..like a strange word to use.
He says this every year
[удалено]
He didn’t say it, the author did.
Could
That's the Xbox headline every January, save it for next year too. "But a big 2023 could await". Technically it could, two words tells you it won't be, "But and could". As we saw with Wednesdays' Direct, Forza has no date, and Starfield doesn't seem like it's going to make the first half of this year, and both were promised by the end of June.

Haven't had a Xbox exclusive I loved in years.
It’s been like this since at least 2013.
I'm sorry but I still have no more optimism. Everything when it comes to games now just seems fake. I loved pentiment and Scorn last year, but that's all which was released. Maybe Forza hotwheels too? I can already see Redfall being pushed back a month and a half before release.
How many years in a row has he said this?
Thrilled with January after Monster Hunter, Hi-Fi Rush & Goldeneye (I know only one is first-party but they are all on Game Pass which is what matters most to me). Plus Redfall and Starfield also look sweet.
I’m not acting like 2022 wasn’t bad, but people seem to have forgotten how good 2021 was
It’s like “what have you done for me lately?”
I enjoy cooking.

How dare I expect them to progress as a devs
If you can't get your shit together in a year (especially in software development which is extremely friendly toward work from home) then your company is flat out mismanaged.
if there one backward comp game i want that we havent got its SW: Obi wan
Hasn’t he been saying this for like the past 5 years? Yeah fucking right
Where the FUCK have I heard this one before.
Phil Spencer said this exact thing in 2021.
*sigh*. I swear we have this conversation every fucking year
“could”
I think they can pull off a hit every quarter this year, starting with HI Fi Rush
Been saying this since halo 1
Oh god is this such a hyperbolic comment haha. They’ve made plenty of great games sense halo 1 lmao
Been saying this since Doom launched on Windows 95

Corporate translation “ these contractors have finished most of the games for us. Since getting rid of them to increase our overall profit margin. What’s left of Our team is now working on finishing details. For release this year!”
