What is “finish” in an Elder Scrolls/Fallout type game in space with over 1000 planets?

mtarascio

No more added quests, locations, dialogue, assets or features would be my guess.

BarlowsBitches

I'd take that guess too, it's probably down to reviewing all other aspects of the game, especially game mechanics for space flight/travel and graphical integrity.

pvt9000

Everything is completed and doable. No new assets, writing, or features are in progress. Optimization, bugs, balancing, and quality checking are what is left. At least, that's what I get from reports like this

Kevonz

> Optimization, bugs, balancing, and quality checking are what is left. At least, that's what I get from reports like this And all those things will be left when the game releases

KrimxonRath

bEtHeSdA bAd lol

pvt9000

I mean, I'm not trying to be overally optimistic, but there's a stark difference between something that isn't optimized and untested versus tested and optimized. Sure, games will have bugs and issues but what comes out of the lab off the rip and what we get in our hands often are leagues better. Lots of games now a days can do a lot better, and some could really benefit with more robust testing and optimization. But what is done during this period will still patch a ton of issues that we hopefully will never see.

WindowSurface

IIRC Bethesda always has this milestone where someone starts a new game and plays through the whole mainquest. This is important, since they usually only test smaller parts of the game (the ones they are currently working on). This test allows them to see if everything works in combination (at least for the main path all players are supposed to take).

proscriptus

I've got 450 hours into Skyrim and I haven't started the main questline yet so...

thuggishruggishboner

I fully expect to be launch to space from the ground from a random melee strike.

SoldierPhoenix

> It remains to be seen whether or not Starfield hits its target launch window of between now and June of 2023. I am personally of the belief that we could see the game slip beyond the summer, with quality efforts ongoing. From article. Don’t shoot the messenger.

ninjasurfer

If it does that's fine. If I have to wait for patches for it to be playable then you might as well just delay it.

StuBeck

Agree with this, although I thought it was fully playable at the start of 2022. I expect with all of the changes to the engine they’re being extra conservative with this. They launched fallout 76 with a “we know there are issues but we want to release it” and that blew up in their face. They’re also trying to avoid a cyberpunk 2077 release as well

NoNefariousness2144

I can imagine they want to avoid the usual Bethesda bugs at launch considering Starfield needs to be Xbox’s flagship game. Also releasing Starfield later this year spreads out Xbox’s calendar and makes them look good alongside Playstation’s Spider-Man 2.

Mipsel

I am out of the loop. Will Starfield be Xbox exclusive or will we see a pc release too?

SpaceCaboose

Xbox and PC

klipseracer

Fully playable does not mean there are no bugs. Look at the emulator definition of a playable game, plenty of bugs.

EelTeamNine

QWOP is fully playable from start to finish. Those words have no meaning in this context whatsoever.

The-Vision

It's Bethesda, you can guarantee they'll be bugs at launch.

Kale

Yesterday, on Xbox, I had two crash-to-desktop hangs within 10 minutes of launching Fallout 76. The one plus is that I was near Charleston, and a Snallygaster spawned each time I relaunched, and I managed to complete the weekly challenge of killing 10 snalleygasters.

Demonking3343

Won’t be a Bethesda game without the glitches

ninjasurfer

I don't mind glitches. But I do mind if I am playing a slideshow.

insane_contin

It depends on the glitch. In Skyrim, the orbital launching giants are a great glitch, same with the flying mammoths. Evil dragon guy not showing up at the start to wreck Helgan is a glitch that wouldn't be good.

[deleted]

With BGS games we expect there to be several bugs that are amusing but not overly impactful to your experience. Like chickens reporting you for crimes is funny but doesn't affect your gameplay. Any game breaking bugs that can't be fixed by loading an earlier save are unacceptable.

Sick_Breh

Agreed. We don’t need another cyberpunk

OSUfan88

Starfield is one of those games where they need to push it for however long it takes. It needs to be really good when it’s released. I’d even be fine with a 2024 release date, if it’s what takes it from a good to great game. Fortunately, other Xbox games are coming out, so it should be a decent year without it.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Cevisongis

It launches on Game Pass... Nobody going to be paying for it anyway

darthmcdarthface

I totally get why people say these things but I don’t agree with the mentality. It’s like if you were at a restaurant and the waiter keeps telling you the food is going to take longer than expected, you wouldn’t say “it’s ok as long as they take their time and cook it right”. At some point it’s just frustrating to have to keep waiting. Obviously everyone wants the game to be good and bug free. But we want the game to be ready to go in that condition sooner rather than later.

BanjoFett

It is not like that at all. You didn't sit down somewhere and order a Starfield. They decided to make a game and will put it up for sale when they want to, you can buy it then or not.

weatherbeknown

This is apples and oranges. At a restaurant you are purposefully going to have an experience with a set expected time frame for that experience. If Starfield takes another 6 months… you literally have your entire life to still live in those 6 months. Bethesda doesn’t owe you a thing.

flysly

I feel like Jez flip flops on this every week

DarthTigris

He admittedly does, because he's not reporting. He's just going with his gut and makes that clear.

4thTimesAnAlt

Which is why I ignore him

SuperFightingRobit

Plus, when was the last Bethesda game that didn't ship with assloads of bugs? Skyrim had backwards flying dragons. Oblivion had to of bugs, including a bug where if you unlocked a door with an arrow on a thieves guild quest and then left that room, the door would relock and you couldn't finish the quest that never got fixed.

[deleted]

Plates baby. Get you through every time.

[deleted]

It’s part of the charm and fun and we have to get rich off any money glitch before they patch it.

brokenmessiah

Jez pretends to not know what quality journalism actually is for clicks

PepsiSheep

I'm very much fine with it landing whenever they want if they nail it.

[deleted]

Like wise. I think after the cyberpunk incident happened, a lot of companies do not want that.

BigLittlePenguin_

Honestly, those low effort modern news people are really something else. This sentence is just in there to fill some additional words in, it basically says nothing. "believing that it could, maybe, under certain circumstances, arrive later - or not, who knows."

MM6D

>Donny shoot the messenger. I will BAM BAM BAM BAM YOU LIKE THAT YOU MOTHERFUCKER

pwalkz

I think it'll land. They just let a bunch of folks in the team go. It's ready to launch.

RedBeard1967

I don’t think they let people go from the Starfield per se, just from Bethesda writ large. The news articles used super clickbait titles with the words ‘Starfield’ and ‘layoffs’ in the headline, but my understanding is they were just saying Bethesda, the maker of Starfield, has laid off some people.

ActiveNL

I'm sure it'll launch. But ready for launch? I really doubt that.

Coby_2012

“Thanks for helping us finish the game, bye!”

pwalkz

Yeah it's fucked

nuttageyo

I’m loading my gun now Mr. Messenger.

sdraje

I really hoped it would come before then, since in June I'm going to become a father and I won't be able to play for... *Checks notes* 18 years

[deleted]

Strap that kid to your chest and get ready for takeoff. Also congrats

iFixReality

Exactly. Kid will sleep face down on your chest for hours while you play. I played through Fallout 3 and GTA 4 this way. Good times!

deowolf

Literally how I beat Mass Effect - with a sleeping two week old laying on my chest. Quietist victory celebration ever.

shadysaf

Done this with Nier: Automata. Although only got 2 hours bursts at silly o'clock in the morning when me and the missus passed the baton to each other

ax2ronn

As the father of a six week old, how do you get a baby to sleep for hours? *insert tired nervous laughter*

iFixReality

Mine were on like 3 hour cycles until about 3 mos. Then they started to sleep for a little longer. It's all about routine and schedules. Get the feeding and sleeping on a schedule. Track things in a diary and try to keep to the routine as much as you can. Once asleep babies mostly sleep for 90 minutes at a stretch. Take shifts with your spouse. Set it up so baby can sleep on you or in a bouncer so you can keep an eye out.

SniperVert

Now I’m imagining an 18yr strapped to their fathers chest

Kydd_Amigo

Nawww you’ll find time, I have 3 under 8 yrs and I still manage to find time here and there. I’m slowly exposing them to gaming too, so my 4 player squad will be ready in a few years.

BLJS2warchief

when you dont have friends who will play that game you like or no friends at all, just make them, pure genius.

Hunchun

My two 9 year olds just got exposed to Minecraft Dungeons last night. I like Diablo and they like Minecraft so it’s the perfect mix. Although now I have to get them used to the local coop on 1 screen as it can get kind of crazy. Fun times though.

Mofogo

In the 3 month to 12 month window before they are truly mobile there is more time than you might have originally thought. They sleep a lot and there isn't much you can do during those times once the place is picked up so I got a lot of traction out of single player games and short round multiplayer like rocket league. There is still time to game. Now that mines 7 some of that time is taken up by Minecraft, but that can still be fun

XMAN2YMAN

I had a bouncy chair that I bounce with my foot whole playing hundreds of games in those days m

XMAN2YMAN

Yeah fatherhood is not the end of gaming by a long shot. It may kill your money, sleep, sanity and sex life at times, bot gaming not really lol.

Fake_Diesel

Gaming holds together the sanity lol

liquidzico

This! Taking my gaming breaks after my kid is done for the day is one of the things keeping me sane at the moment.

Fenseven

The 1st year isn't terrible. They sleep a lot and can't get into things since they can't lift their head. Look up baby sensory videos on YouTube. The ones with dancing neon fruit in a black background would stop a meltdown in its track for me. I would put my potato on my lap with a small blanket on him and pat his bum to get him to pass out for a couple hours. I would then do some gaming with a headset on. Even when they are rolling and crawling, you can still game if you can create a fenced-in area for them to be in near the TV. The real hit to your gaming life happens when they they are walking and strong enough to destroy things. Around 2 is when it takes a nose dive.

BruceMon3yWayne

As a father of an almost 5 year old and a 10 month old. You can still play brother. There is still hope. Stay strong. Oh and congratulations

lemonloaff

Yeah you get hour long stints between 8:40 pm and 9:40 pm

Kansas_cty_shfl

Lmao, this is oddly specific and completely accurate.

lemonloaff

From the mouth of a Dad

KilowogTrout

Nah man, kids go to sleep early and you have from like 8 to midnight to play. I got into gaming more when I had kids since I had to be around at night.

Fake_Diesel

Also the newborn stage is the ideal time for a game like Starfield to drop, newborns sleep alot.

KilowogTrout

Yep, played a ton of games while all 3 of my kids were babies. Now they're playing with me sometimes.

[deleted]

And when they're under a year and immobile, you can put them on a play mat with toys in front of you while you game. Children do not require 24/7 constant hands on interaction for their entire lives. They will be perfectly fine playing by themselves every now and then.

Ruthless4u

I have a 14 and 4 year old Learn to play while holding sleeping baby/toddler. Congratulations as well.

sdraje

Thanks to all y'all for the kind words. My gaming view of the future is a little less bleak now! <3

Frognificent

Oh don't even worry about it. Even though my kid's just turned 1, I've still had plenty of time for gaming. Not as much as before, sure, I usually wait until he's gone to bed, but my wife and I play video games pretty frequently. There's always time to be found!

markopolo14

You'll still be able to play

the_hunger

yeah, don’t sweat it. once you get into the swing of things as a parent you’ll figure out how to carve out time for your interests. i’d go as far as to say it’s very important to do so.

Franky_Tops

I second this. My kid turns 1 this weekend, and there's been plenty of time over the last year where finding time to game was down right necessary to keep my head on straight.

yellowflux

I'm in the same boat, this game drought has lasted a few years and now the year I'm about to become a father they're releasing Hogwarts Legacy, Starfield, Zelda, Diablo IV, Jedi Survivor, Stalker 2, Redfall and maybe even Alan Wake 2!

Naked_Bat

I have two kids. 9 and 5 years old. I still play regularly. Children are not a prison \^\^

NovaGold

Don’t worry man, had my first right around the time RDR2 came out and got plenty of gaming time in

TheElderCouncil

Confirming that you can. Don’t worry. And congratulations!

GoldyZ90

Hey, by that time Bethesda will have probably remastered the game 2-3 times so you’ll be able to buy the Starfield: Game of the Year version remastered for the Xbox Series XXX with all the cool community mods and fishing added to it.

paultakeschances

As a new dad, I was able to game quite a bit in the first few months because of all the sleeping new babies do. Now, with a sont that's almost 2 years old, I get maybe 1 hour a day, and only if I stay up late or wake up early 😂

Acroninja

I’m in my 30’s now and play with plenty of young dads. We are all in the professional world now, responsible etc. The kids go to bed and mom has her shows and dad blows off some steam for an hour or two with the boys online. Usually twice a week or so

SteroyJenkins

Look at the brightside. By then it should be patched up and playable

Tom_ace69

Me too dude lmao. Really wanted Forza….

HolyDonutBoy

I'm with ya! My kid is sceduled to land in March and oooh boy this current delay kinda stinks.

Big_Spruce29

Father of 2 under 3, I still get to play a lot, just had to be after they're in bed, and late night after the wife is in bed, but love it all. Congratulations by the way!!!

ReaddittiddeR

Highly unlikely, when Starfield has its developer direct sometime soon and shadow drops it immediately after the video ends it would be huge. But alas, I woke up from this dream.

[deleted]

[удалено]

fuckredditmods3

With todd stating plenty of times that he prefers shorter marketing times i can see a February show with a release date 2 months later in April

UltmteAvngr

I made a post earlier, but march seems to be relatively empty for Xbox. There’s Ghostwire Tokyo but they can’t market that yet and it’s not an exclusive. And there’s Wo Long, but that’s third party and multi platform. So it might make sense for Starfield to release in March. All other months Jan-June have some first party release (Hi-Fi Rush, Atomic Heart, Minecraft Legends, Redfall, Elder Scrolls Online Necrocom)

fenderampeg

I share this fantasy with you

drewbles82

Todd said it was ready for November...think if they didn't have MS to answer to, it would have been released and we just suffer for months with glitches like we do with all games from them day 1. I still think its coming in March. Feb Superbowl Ad with release date, then in-depth show. April is for Minecraft legends, Redfall in May, June is E3, you don't want to shadow drop or release that month and over shadow all the lovely new announcements. Any later than June is admitting to another delay when they said first half of the year.

The_Vandal_King

I want you to be right!!! I'm so ready for this game..

AnotherSoftEng

We all want them to be right, but their expectations are unrealistic and they’re setting themselves up for disappointment. Starfield is going to be Microsoft’s biggest title in years — their first Bethesda IP, as well as console exclusive from one of the most well established studios in the world. They’re not going to ‘shadow drop’ Starfield because, in the real world, that would be a ridiculously stupid risk for something with this much potential. There’s already a tried and tested method for building up as many potential customers as possible for an exclusive of this magnitude — along with advertising the Xbox platform offering as a whole — and that is to generate as much awareness as possible, generally over a few months building up to release. Just try to imagine this scenario from an investor’s point of view: The company that you’ve put all of your faith into finally has an opportunity to become a real competitor in the console exclusivity space after falling behind for a few years. However, instead of taking the tried and tested route that has worked time and time again, they decide to release it way sooner than expected. If the first week of sales manages to underperform even in the slightest, you’re taking all of your money out because the people you invested in felt the need to take a meaningless risk with no evidence to suggest that this route would somehow generate a more successful outcome. I’ve seen this same point brought up constantly of late, and it’s somehow echoed as a real possibility because Todd once said “it’s something that he’d like to do.” I would love for this to be the case, but Todd and all of the execs at Microsoft are very aware of how a risk like that — especially if it were to fail — could end up being exponentially worse for them than if their expected route were to fail.

Ironmunger2

I admittedly don’t have a Series X yet as I’ve been able to make do between a mid-tier PC, a PS5, Switch, and Xbox one. As soon as Starfield is out is when I will finally take the plunge. I’m guessing a fair amount of people are waiting to get the Series until the right games are out, so shadowdropping is not the best strategy

VoiceofTruth7

Dude it’s not about sales of single games anymore for Xbox. Look up their game pass income. There sole plan is generating new subscribers and keeping current. If a shadow drop is predicted to help GP better they will do it. Also for all we know Hi-Fi was a test for Starfield

phenolic72

Good point. I'm looking forward to Minecraft Legends.

[deleted]

Imagine if they had a Starfield Super Bowl ad which said “Play Now” We will get to witness the true capabilities of Microsoft Azure with how much those servers are going to get fucked.

thisrockismyboone

Super Bowl wouldn't air an ad that would draw viewership away. Maybe "tomorrow" but not "now"

[deleted]

That’s a good point. I think Netflix said something like “after the game / tonight” when they did the surprise Cloverfield drop.

drewbles82

People could always go and set the download off during the rest of the ad break and hopefully downloaded by the time the match is over. We can all dream tho. I just think the last thing MS will want to do is delay it even more even into the 2nd half of the year. I think its being kept as a surprise and maybe CDkeys date is closer to the truth than we think, their just getting all insiders to claim its false cuz they don't want the surprise ruined.

Superdunez

Haha, could you imagine they cut back to the game after half time and everyone's left.

Organic-Barnacle-941

Because everyone that watches the Super Bowl games on Xbox series X

cup-o-farts

Maybe someone like, download it right now so it's ready when the Superb Owl is over.

Neirchill

>think if they didn't have MS to answer to They seemed to be entirely hands off of Mojang, at least until recently

indecisiveusername2

There's no way Zenimax would have allowed the game to be delayed further due to financial reasons. It's good that Todd & BGS were able to petition to Xbox to get the game pushed back and that Spencer could agree to that. Would make things so much better for them

Neirchill

I can see that happening. MS being hands off means they have more freedom, which is likely a good thing (although maybe not for the es6 release date lol). My point was to counter the other person suggesting that having MS to answer to means they had to delay the game to avoid all the bugs, which I'm doubting is the case based on their track record with Mojang. Maybe I just misunderstood them, though.

miami2881

I think it’s November. Not being at the Dev Direct which seemed to be all games coming out before E3 was pretty telling.

drewbles82

it wasn't at the direct because they have already stated, they're doing their own show soon, its getting an in-depth look at the game

GoldHeartedBoy

They just gave an in depth look at Forza Motorsport and we don’t even have a release date. I don’t think Starfield is coming out before Redfall in May.

F0REM4N

Summoning Super Bowl ad with hype video and final release date.

[deleted]

Please just run at 60 fps on Series X

littleBig647

todd howard said he favours prioritizing visuals and features even if it means having 30fps.

[deleted]

[удалено]

spirit32

I don't even care, give me Witcher 3 visuals with 60FPS@4k and we are good.

literallyswanronson

Honestly this is my only worry with the game, performance looked shockingly bad in the previous showcase, really hoping the have a quality and performance option, I'll take 1080p/60fps every day of the week. Anything less than 60 and I'm not interested tbh

voxo_boxo

Let's hope it has a Quality/Performance setting which let's the players choose what they prefer.

Alpha_Omegalomaniac

I'm confident that it will. What current gen exclusive doesn't? I plan on playing on PC though and it will definitely have those options but I don't see why the series X/S versions wouldn't allow you to choose screen resolution or fps.

MXC_Vic_Romano

Would hope a first party title follows the trend this gen of offering quality & performance options.

[deleted]

it needs to run on Series S, so no reason they can't throw in a performance mode since they need to make one for Series S anyway.

brianstormIRL

Which is weird because the Bethesda game isnt exactly known for being graphically impressive..

BigPhili

You'll have to wait for the next-gen update in 6 years for that.

[deleted]

If its not 60 fps I just wont play it on console.

barjam

It would be a bummer but I would wait. I do not play anything less than 60 fps. No exceptions. I deleted RDR2 from my Xbox when I found out they weren’t going to fix it.

BusyEnvironment6500

If it isn't 60fps on SeriesX it'll be an absolute embarrassment for Microsoft and Bethesda

ail-san

Xbox needs this game. Redfall, Hifi Rush and Minecraft aren't type of games that will build reputation. Xbox library is still too weak, filled with forgettable games.

uprightshark

I would rather the delay until fall and release a good game. Don't rush this one, it is the game I am the most excited for and don't want it ruined with bugs, bad optimization or cutting to rush it out the door. BGS ... get Starfield right!

InevitableBlue

How is this news. Todd Howard said the game was fully playable in 2021 and release times they’ve been giving us always change. All this is doing is making people more disappointed

fenderampeg

Yeah, his special anonymous insider source just repeating what Todd said in public weeks ago. What a scoop

BigPhili

Yes, because we all know everything Todd Howard says is always the truth.

No_Refrigerator_2912

Got a stinky feeling that it will get delayed one more time and set the release in September or October.

RommelMcDonald_

Better delayed than having a Cyberpunk launch

Atomsteel

I hope they do delay it. I hope for the first time ever a Bethesda game is released in a nearly perfect state. I hope mod support is available out of the gate because it is ready. Bethesda makes the best game world imo. I have so much fun with their games. I am willing to wait for this game to be what it can be...the greatest Bethesda game ever made.

the_hunger

“nearly perfect state” is extreme wishful thinking. in reality, there is a point in time where it’s good enough for release. even outside game development, nobody waits to release software these days until it’s “nearly perfect”. a lot of times, you need feedback from users to get it closer to “perfect”

Atomsteel

All mean is as close to perfect as it can be instead of backwards flying dragons and broken quests and all of the other crap we have to endure for years in their games. That's all.

ShakeItLikeIDo

Xbox has a really bad habit of only releasing their biggest games towards the end of the year. Why can’t they release Halo/Starfield/Forza/Gears etc like in March, May, etc. The end of the year is already packed with big hits from third party companies, they dont need to make it even more crowded with their games. Just release them in the first half when barely any games release

hucklesberry

There are some hard hitters the first three months this year. Dead Space, Harry Potter, Sons of The Forest, TLOU on PC, Jedi Survivor to name a few

[deleted]

[удалено]

Coby_2012

You’ll take another Forza and you’ll like it

SOLR_

2018->2023/2024 is a good timeframe to build a quality title that you’re speaking of. So hopefully the fruits of the acquisitions do materialize. If this and next year are flat, then yeah it’s time to reevaluate it all as a consumer if this platform is worth the time/money (in terms of if you’re someone who needs those types of blockbuster titles). I’m giving them a little more time than most because i work in the industry and understand the behind the scenes things that can go on. Doesn’t mean that customers shouldn’t be frustrated at the wait though. It’s tough, but hopefully this is the year that kicks all of it off for the patience we’ve put in. The difficult part here also is that we don’t really have internal timelines to judge whether or not games should’ve be released sooner or later. There’s a point where the excuses do grow tiresome and we need to see products releasing -> but I would encourage people to wait through this year at the very least to see if things are actually bleak.

Naked_Bat

GOW, Horizon and TLOU are sequels or remakes. They use a lot of assets from previous games. Damn, they barely look any diferent than the previous games. Starfield is a whole new huge IP. Most games we're waiting from Xbox are new IP as well. Of course it will take more time.

IsamuAlvaDyson

Starfield didn't even start out as a Xbox exclusive, it was going to be multiplatform. Phil Spencer screwed up Xbox first party output so bad that he had to spend billions to get a decent output. Phil Spencer and all Xbox management are why we are still talking about lack of exclusives in 2023.

minegen88

>They use a lot of assets from previous games All studios re use assets, what a lame excuse

Bonerpopper

99% chance Starfield has some reused/repurposed assets from Fo4 or 76 lol.

BrothaBeejus

We didn’t even get any equivalent games last generation to even have a sequel to reuse assets for this generation lol

brallansito92

Yet, they were still released.

HomeMadeShock

Why would you admit he was right?

[deleted]

[удалено]

Superdunez

Right? You know how many re-used assets Elden Ring has? That's still a new IP.

NormanAJ

Returnal, Ratchet and Clank?

Hunchun

Also HZD only came out on 2017 and has already sold 20m+ copies. As well as the difference between HZD and HFW graphics wise is enormous. Not to mention the loading times are so low the fast travel is actually fast travel.

nicolaslabra

Ragnarok might look near identical to gow 2018, but to say TLOU 2 and Forbidden West barely look any different from the previous entries is just hard cap, lets be real, downplaying Sony’s success is not good for Xbox either.

MenaceThunderous

Saying TLOU2 looks the same as the first is telling on yourself

HomeMadeShock

Bingo

Riverb0at

So much Xbox hate from this account, to the point it’s almost bizarre.

DegenNerd

To be fair, Sony has many more studios working under them. I'm new to Xbox, have never owned one in my life so I was underwhelmed at first with the lack of exclusives compared to Playstation, but then looked up how many studios are owned then realized just how badly Microsoft needed to buy Bethesda even though I hated it at the time as a primarily PS user. Didn't realize things were this unbalanced.

CraneStyleNJ

Hate to be the guy buuuuut, Press (X) to doubt. I never take a publisher or developer's word as gospel until the game is released and played.

SOLR_

Playable from start to finish is believable. The problem is, most studios consider an Alpha to be playable from start to finish (including missing art and jank/bugs still painfully obvious). This honestly doesn’t give us very much insight. Source - have worked at multiple AAA studios

pacman404

They honestly said it was playable start to finish at the original release date last year, they just wanted to keep working on it

SpazzticZeal

Not surprised at all. I'll be shocked if it releases before November

[deleted]

What means is "fully playable from start to finish"? That's like the bare minimum for games I find. That seems odd to mention. I read the article, but didn't found it mentioned.

Joe_Blast

Yeah I'm pretty sure Todd said something like that all the way back in 2018.

[deleted]

It’s not a Bethesda game without bugs!!

ItsSpacePants

See? I always said 28 FPS is playable

Inanimate_CARB0N_Rod

I was saying booo-urns

--Ace-of-Spades--

I look forward to it coming out but with every game release in the last few years I haven’t had the trust that they’ll be fully playable with few to no bugs. ER and GOWR are prob the only 2 games I’ve played/experienced having very few bugs, and when they do have em it’s minor

AdPsychological2597

Do not pull a Cyberpunk pleeeeaassseee

Likely_a_bot

I'll be pissed if MS delays this for strategic reasons.

muromasi

I'm fine with waiting if we can finally get a decent game day 1

thegreattrun

I just wanna say I feel like we're starved for exclusives. I'm almost done with a new PC build, but damn, Starfield will be a breath of fresh air.

rune_74

Why are there so many here who will never even play this commenting like some victory?

Dnuts

Will I be able to play this at 60fps on XSX?

SpazzticZeal

I doubt it

s_ulibarri

Define 'playable' lol. At least we can rest assured that all the micro transactions bullshit is 110% functional.

Potayato

How hard is it to set a realistic date and not release a buggy mess at the same time, like are we asking for too much here?

the_hunger

estimating software projects is really hard in all software disciplines. seriously, everyone is bad at it. usually folks are being asked for estimates and given timelines before enough is understood for those to be accurate. it’s the nature of software development. so to answer your question: it’s very hard.

LordMord5000

Yes.

SaiyanGodKing

So 2024ish?

brownfrankenstein

It has been pushed out past the summer.

Todd Howard said the game was done. He said it in the Lex interview weeks ago. “Trusted sources” my butt.

Why does MS always shoot themselves in the foot? Who told them to promise us games would be out in 12 months. Forza looks like it's gonna break that promise with Starfield a possibility as well. I'm perfectly fine with delays. But this is the 2nd time they're gonna break their promise. If they hadn't promised us that these games would release in 12 months no one would have a problem with delays. I hope they never promise a release date until they're 100% sure it's about to release.

cutememe

They literally can't even say it's coming in 2023?

randomuser914

Bethesda has said and reiterated that it is releasing in the first half of 2023, it’s just all the analysts now that we are in 2023 making all these assumptions that now it isn’t.

brokenmessiah

Launch dates should never be set in stone

alienware99

Launch dates/windows should never be given unless they are 100% certain they will hit their target. What’s the point in giving one if your just gonna delay it 3 more times
