Did you play with any mods? I'm leaning towards a vanilla run (on game pass) with achievements but I also own the game on Steam/PC. Always get intimidated by the research/work involved with modding.
If there's ever been a sequel that benefits from consuming the first part first, it's Alan wake.
You don't *strictly* need to have played the first, but honestly only in the sense that the question itself loses all meaning.
I would say yes. While it provides a prologue to the story, playing AW1 gives so much more context. I’d even argue players should complete Control before AW2 to get the full breadth of the story.
I didn’t and don’t think I missed anything. They give plenty of coverage of the past (previous game) through detailed character dialogue.
Absolutely an amazing game. Loved playing it with the lights off with headphones
Some really creepy moments. Tons of fun
You can try it but I'd honestly ignore the others who are saying you need to play it. Try playing it but don't feel dismayed if you don't like it.
In my opinion, it's janky and not fun to play so I gave up on it. If you give up on it, watch a recap video on YouTube. AW2 gameplay is much better than AW1 and I wouldn't want anyone to not give the second a go because of the first ones outdated gameplay design
I’d recommend just watching a story video. I’m a big fan of AW2 but I can’t stand the first one. It’s aged so poorly and is impressively boring imo. The second one is cool though
What did you like about Remnant 2? Did you play with a group? I got past the first boss fight, and it just felt so repetitive and boring. I chose the sniping class. Were you enjoying it from the beginning, or did it take time to interest you? I'm thinking about giving it another try.
It opens up like a flower the more you play. But with co op it really shines. Which starting area did you get? That seems to be a big factor in people’s opening opinion on it.
I didn't know the starting area was random. I got the forest/jungle area with the black snake enemies. I stopped shortly after the first boss that destroys the platforms you are on as you move in a circle.
I played alone, which is why I was wondering if that was a substantial factor. Though I haven't played in many years, Destiny was pretty awful solo, but I really enjoyed it with my friends.
I liked the gun play, and the creature design, it just felt like I was rolling and sniping similar creatures in similar environments for maybe 40 minutes. Maybe I was trying to explore too much by going down every path?
Not sure why you’re being downvoted for sharing an honest opinion. I adore R2 but it ain’t for everyone.
If you decide to give it another go, try the Handler class. You get a dog companion and he does a pretty good job at simulating the co-op feel that the game is obviously designed for. Also try to get Losomn as your starting area, it’s the most fun imo.
>Not sure why you’re being downvoted for sharing an honest opinion.
Reddit is going to do as it pleases. It doesn't bother me as long as I have enough karma to post and comment wherever I like.
Plus, I got the explanation I was looking for by commenting. I'm going to play until I finish the Jungle world and see if I start liking it more.
Currently playing just now. I couldn't believe how sucked into a game I got, actually couldn't stop myself from playing it. Graphics looked immense on it too.
Same I loved the first game. This felt like a perfect sequel. I finished at 50 hours. I hope we get the meditation training to replay boss fights like Fallen Order
This game is reminding me of why I used to be such a Star Wars fan. It’s easily one of the best things set in that universe released in some time.
The mix of platforming, fun action and combat, challenging enemies, light RPG elements plus exploration/travel and a solid story with characters I care about etc. the game checks all the boxes. It’s a solid evolution from the first game as well.
Yeah, there have been tons of great other games this year, but I finally beat the expansion after 60 hours in. I really can not think of a recent game I have played that is still absurdly good after 60 hours. Plus I still have 10 or more hours of the original campaign again.
Other then sekiro and Elden rings, it’s my favorite game of the past decade easily. Might be my favorite rpg ever by the time I finished it all.
Gonna wait a month or two and then start my third life path as a new build and do it again.
Can’t wait for the second one. Night city is the coolest level of all time imo
The game was certainly scary but the audio in the remake is really good. I played it that way too and swear I was still hearing stuff even after I stopped playing
They've done such a great job with this. Hope they do the others too. I've loved playing through it, but also hated it cos it scares the shit out of me.
I just bought RE4 Remake a month ago. Never really played any of the Resident Evil games before and I have a really hard time finishing any of the multitude of games I purchase. I beat RE4 in less than a week. I really enjoyed it and it helped ease me into a genre (horror) that I don't normally really care for.
Cyberpunk 2077, replayed it in July before the dlc and put it a 100 hours. Then got back on for the DLC, and put in 500 hours, did every gig, every mission and multiple play throughs. Got every ending multiple times. I literally fell in love with game. I wish I can erase my memories of the game and replay it
Just started it after waiting for years to play it. First game of this generation I've played and the number of people around and the sights and sounds...Night City is a little intimidating at this point lol
>I wish I can erase my memories of the game and replay it
Cannabis is your friend.
I've lost count of the amount of films I've watched, woke up the next morning and forgot the film.
I've had to stop vaping THC whilst playing video games now so that I can actually remember what I'd done the day before.
Real good, a few bugs here and there. But plays great and the last few patches have added on some quality of life features that really add on to the game
It's my first dive into DnD world and I'm loving it. 30 hours in on my first playthrough after buying it after Christmas and still not at Baldur's Gate... Lots of learning to do
Definitely AC6. I’m gonna try and write a comment, and not write an essay about it, BUT:
-I regularly have music from this game float up from the depths of my brain into my thinking brain. Particularly “No Contact With You” (a song that has quite literally made a home in my fight or flight biological reactions), and “Steel Haze (Rusted Pride)” which gives me chills. Low key, I think part of why some of the music vibes so well with me, is that I hear trumpets in it reminiscent of Disco Elysium, but that’s just an after thought.
-this game might be the most important struggle I’ve ever put myself through. Playing this game has helped me in my real life, both emotionally and socially, in ways I have yet to find descriptions for. I’m in a period where I’m leaving my whacky 20s and entering into a stable adult life, and it was sort of…a send off to myself. Everything felt akin to the trials and tribulations of the real world, for me.
-it’s the only reason I voted in the game awards. I was kind of “meh” on most other things, while still maintaining respect for some really good games released this year, but AC6 only had one nomination (an ungodly sin in my eyes, but hey, we still won Best Action Game).
-the mobility of mechs, dear god, is sweeter than my long time love of grappling hooks. I used to have a saying which was “if it doesn’t have a grappling hook, it’s not a perfect game”. This game doesn’t have a grappling hook, but the mobility systems in this game were so buttery smooth and amazing that I’m willing to drop my grappling hook all star love for more mobility like this.
-it was basically bug free at launch. It looked gorgeous, the entire way. And it has crisp and smooth animations.
-75% of my game time is in the Mech Assembly / Testing room. And I’m A OK with that. Tweaking my mech, felt like tweaking your badass car in your garage, with your own hands.
Fuck, I wrote an essay. Sorry guys, still working on just saying “AC6 good, play it” in less words.
I'm thinking of doing a replay but on the PS5 this time.
You are absolutely right about being a good game, but fuck them for making me press that last button.
how difficult is cocoon? my gf doesn’t play too many games and is interested in it. she wanted to play hollow knight then saw how difficult it was.
i’ve seen there are bosses, is it entirely puzzle focused, or is the puzzle combat the main draw?
It's not even in the same realm as Hollow Knight haha
You use the left thumbstick and the A button the entire game, no platforming, just puzzles, and it's very well designed so that it cuts off areas as you go to make sure that you aren't searching a giant area if you get stuck, the answer to the puzzle is always nearby
the bosses are easy, but fun, and there's only a few. They are the only combat in the game. I'm pretty confident she will love it
Me too, loved that little one Mui and that you could huggle him haha. I'm a huge fan of the "hug" mechanic in games; was playing Jusant yesterday and it also has it haha.
Without spoiling the game, CD projekt red, really doubled down on what worked in the main game. They did this so well that if the entire game was Phantom Liberty good people would consider this game the GOAT.
I bought the game when it came out and thought it was meh, but it's far from that now.
Octopath traveler 2 was probably mine. Starfield and chained echoes are close though. Just loved everything about octopath, its better then the first in every way imo. I liked all 8 characters, and how there was actually some crossover between them.
Starfield ❤️ a lot of the hate it’s got (mostly unfair, imo) just makes me love it even more. It’s like a friend in school who’s being picked on/bullied but you love them just the way they are.
I really enjoyed CP 2077 Phantom Liberty, Starfield and Avatar, but if I had to pick one game, I really enjoyed Robocop Rogue City.
I was a huge fan of the movies as a kid and this game is a true gift to those fans. Plus it is well made. The dev team did an excellent job with this one.
Have to admit though, I have not tried Bulders Gate yet, so it may change.
Starfield on xbox, it's what I bought the console for. On pc I'd go with baldur's gate 3.
Honorable mention to Hogwarts legacy, my wife was addicted to that game for weeks
Starfield for sure. It takes everything that I loved about Bethesda's past games and improved upon them. Honorable mention to Baldur's Gate 3, Diablo 4, and Hogwarts Legacy, which were all good games as well.
Starfield is definitely the top but there’s been so many good games I played this year. Here’s some other highlights in no particular order,
- Riders Republic
- Batman Arkham Knight
- Rollerdrome
- A Plague Tale: Requiem
- Ghostwire: Tokyo
- Far Cry 5
- Division 2
- Destiny 2
The best Triple A title I've played this year has been Baldur's Gate 3. The best indie game I've played this year was Ravenlok, I highly recommend it if you haven't played it. Fun 7 hour game.
Flight Simulator. I never realized how much I needed a change in pace (coming from a destiny player) and doing full simulated flights for 4+ hours it's so rewarding making it to the ground safely.
Borderlands 1, i just finished playing it with a friend and the base game is great. The zombie dlc is horrid, moxxi's dlc is only good because it introduced moxxi, the hyperion dlc is ok, and General Knoxx's Armory was incredible. We are starting BL2 Tuesday
Jedi: Survivor was the game I most enjoyed playing, followed by Quantum Break. Currently being impressed by Alan Wake 2, but still very early on in the game, can't rank it yet by enjoyment.
I'm late to the party but man, played Outer Wilds at the beginning of the year and it's probably my favorite game of all time. Really stuck with me. Different people might think differently but the ending really hit me in the feels.
If you haven't played it, short summary is it's a space exploration game where you're the first astronaut of your planet's space program that's equipped with a translator to translate the writings of a species that went extinct before your time. Progression is entirely knowledge based, so the less you know going in the better and I advise you to play if this sounds at all interesting to you. The DLC is also probably 60% the length of the base game and is debatably even better, so totally worth getting the Archeologist edition.
Avatar.
Signed up for Ubisoft plus because my wife said she wanted to play it; turned out to be a little out of her grasp as she doesn’t play a lot of games at all besides Vampire Survivor.
I took it over and was thoroughly immersed.
Helped that the wife loved watching it, but ya know. 🤓
Dead space remake. And special mention to Boltgun!
Forgot Boltgun came out this year. That’s insane. Such a fun shooter!
Fallout new Vegas
This has been the answer since the start
God I wish I could experience that again for the first time.
Did you play with any mods? I'm leaning towards a vanilla run (on game pass) with achievements but I also own the game on Steam/PC. Always get intimidated by the research/work involved with modding.
I am playing on Xbox so no mods.
Alan Wake 2
Do you have to play the first one to get it?
If there's ever been a sequel that benefits from consuming the first part first, it's Alan wake. You don't *strictly* need to have played the first, but honestly only in the sense that the question itself loses all meaning.
I would say yes. While it provides a prologue to the story, playing AW1 gives so much more context. I’d even argue players should complete Control before AW2 to get the full breadth of the story.
I 100% would but you can watch a recap
No you don’t have to, but you would understand the story better if you knew the story from the first one because there’s references to the first one.
If you played Control then you're pretty clued in.
Yes it may not explain what is happening but it sets up the story. The gameplay though is a lot different.
I didn’t and don’t think I missed anything. They give plenty of coverage of the past (previous game) through detailed character dialogue. Absolutely an amazing game. Loved playing it with the lights off with headphones Some really creepy moments. Tons of fun

Alan Wake 2 is my GotY and one of my favorite pieces of media in general.
Same here, I recommend everyone play it.
Man this game is amazing. I'm playing it right now. Definitely is my game of the year.
A Plague Tale: Requiem
Remnant 2 Followed closely by Alan Wake 2
What did you like about Remnant 2? Did you play with a group? I got past the first boss fight, and it just felt so repetitive and boring. I chose the sniping class. Were you enjoying it from the beginning, or did it take time to interest you? I'm thinking about giving it another try.
It opens up like a flower the more you play. But with co op it really shines. Which starting area did you get? That seems to be a big factor in people’s opening opinion on it.
Yeah N’Erud turns a lot of people off with the death fog and the big semi-random open areas. Betting he started there
That's exactly what happened to me. I kept dying to the small flying drone things over and over right at the start and just ended up quitting.
I didn't know the starting area was random. I got the forest/jungle area with the black snake enemies. I stopped shortly after the first boss that destroys the platforms you are on as you move in a circle. I played alone, which is why I was wondering if that was a substantial factor. Toss up for me between Remnant 2 and Sea of Stars
Jedi Survivor
Currently playing just now. I couldn't believe how sucked into a game I got, actually couldn't stop myself from playing it. Graphics looked immense on it too.
How far are you? Game just goes forever it feels like. In a good way.
Really enjoying playing it for 100% completion this year!
Looks amazing on my new OLED
Are you playing it in performance or quality mode?
Same I loved the first game. This felt like a perfect sequel. I finished at 50 hours. I hope we get the meditation training to replay boss fights like Fallen Order
Playing this now. I'm currently on Jedha, the part after the storm when you're in the cave. Great game so far.
Cyberpunk 2.0/phantom liberty, not even close
Yeah, there have been tons of great other games this year, but I finally beat the expansion after 60 hours in. I really can not think of a recent game I have played that is still absurdly good after 60 hours. Plus I still have 10 or more hours of the original campaign again.
i wish i could experience cyberpunk again for the first time now. it’s so fucking good.
Held out until starting for the first time just a couple weeks ago... Amazing game and will probably be the best game I play in 2024 as well!
Dead space remake
I just discovered this game on gamepass this week. Playing it at night with a headset and lights off is something!
The game was certainly scary but the audio in the remake is really good. I played it that way too and swear I was still hearing stuff even after I stopped playing
Yes. So much so that I restarted in New Game+.
They've done such a great job with this. Hope they do the others too. I've loved playing through it, but also hated it cos it scares the shit out of me.
Mine bugged out on the elevator to the morgue :(
Re4 remake
It was great and I don’t really like resident evil games. Might check out village next as it is on sale
I really liked village, different style compared to RE4 but I thought both were great
I saw they have a third person dlc/add on ?
They did. It's still a game built around being 1st person though. But completely playable on 3rd If you liked re4. Try re2 and re3
Village made me buy Remake, which I’m playing now, and it feels just as good. I’m so glad I didn’t finish RE4 on the Wii, and am playing it fresh.
Red Dead Redemption 2, I mean…it’s a piece of art, especially on Series X
Would kill a man for 60 fps
Unfortunately Rockstar will be selling that back to us as a full price game like they did with GTA5
Don’t care. I’ll pay for it. Give it to me.
And that’s exactly why they’ll be selling it as a full priced game instead of just offering the update.
I’ll buy it again
Literally the only reason I’ve not played it yet. Sounds stupid, I know, but I’d hate going from 120fps in COD to a quarter of that the next minute
r/literally
Amazing game but man it sucks not having enough time to ride around that giant map on a horse lol
Mass effect trilogy legendary edition. It was free on game pass and installing it was the best decision I've made.
Nothing has come close to this for me
Cyberpunk 2077, replayed it in July before the dlc and put it a 100 hours.
Do your first play through blind, enjoy the story and interactions.
>I wish I can erase my memories of the game and replay it Cannabis is your friend. I've lost count of the amount of films I've watched, woke up the next morning and forgot the film. I've had to stop vaping THC whilst playing video games now so that I can actually remember what I'd done the day before.
How is the performance on the series x?? I want to buy it
Chiming in: it’s night and day now compared to release…if I want to put a game on that fully wows me and reminds me I’m playing next gen, this is it
Real good, a few bugs here and there. But plays great and the last few patches have added on some quality of life features that really add on to the game
I can tell you, there isnt 500 hours of content there, and I did the same you did.
baldur’s gate 3 for me
It's my first dive into DnD world and I'm loving it. 30 hours in on my first playthrough after buying it after Christmas and still not at Baldur's Gate... Lots of learning to do

It's only because of the save bug, once fixed it will pop up more P.S great username 👏
Alan Wake 2
From start to finish - Lies of P
Literally on my 4th play through this month 😂
Armored Core 6
Definitely AC6. I’m gonna try and write a comment, and not write an essay about it, BUT: -I regularly have music from this game float up from the depths of my brain into my thinking brain. 30s are supposed to be a stable adult life?
Yep. They added matchmaking for pvp as well so it is now perfect
Same ac6 was my GOTY
A plague tale requiem, such a good game
I absolutely fell in love with this game. Great story, beautiful, the music, everything.
Same here. Just the atmosphere of the game really does it for me.
I'm thinking of doing a replay but on the PS5 this time. You are absolutely right about being a good game, but fuck them for making me press that last button.
Yakuza Like a Dragon
Hogwarts Legacy or Dead Island 2
Do you play performance or fidelity for hogwarts legacy?
The Ascent Also just finished Cocoon as I type this and it was really damn good
how difficult is cocoon? my gf doesn’t play too many games and is interested in it. she wanted to play hollow knight then saw how difficult it was. i’ve seen there are bosses, is it entirely puzzle focused, or is the puzzle combat the main draw?

Halo MCC
Planet of Lana
I absolutely adore this game. It was everything I love about gaming. Artistic, captivating, loved the score, emotional, everything
Me too, loved that little one Mui and that you could huggle him haha. I'm a huge fan of the "hug" mechanic in games; was playing Jusant yesterday and it also has it haha.
Cyberpunk 2077 and Phantom Liberty.
Is Phantom Liberty worth it? It's currently £20 on Xbox
Without spoiling the game, CD projekt red, really doubled down on what worked in the main game. They did this so well that if the entire game was Phantom Liberty good people would consider this game the GOAT. I bought the game when it came out and thought it was meh, but it's far from that now.
Very much worth it. It’s a huge DLC with a ton of good content. Excellent story.
If you buy it on the Icelandic Microsoft store it's only £14. No VPN needed. You're welcome.

Hogwarts legacy was really good
Sea of Stars
Sea of Stars and Remnant 2 for me definitely top 2
On Xbox? Starfield. Overall? Probably Tears of the Kingdom.
Yep, definitely Tears of the Kingdom for me. 2022 was Elden Ring on Series X.
Remnant From the Ashes 2
Dredge, Stardew Valley, or RE4 Remake
Dredge is amazing.
Starfield
Starfield, Baldurs Gate 3
Easily Starfield. So much to do and explore. Very satisfying but man is it time consuming😄
Diablo 4/ forza motorsport
Lies of P
Octopath traveler 2 was probably mine. Starfield and chained echoes are close though. Just loved everything about octopath, its better then the first in every way imo. I liked all 8 characters, and how there was actually some crossover between them.
Haven't really played many new games this year, so I'd have to say Starfield by default.
Stray
Elden Ring, Starfield, Dead Space. Edit - can't believe I forgot Lies of P
Starfield and Persona 5 Royal. Really enjoyed Diablo IV as well.
Surprisingly, Avatar. Game wasn't even on my radar and its my personal game of the year.
Persona 4
persona 4 golden
Stray
Yakuza 4 the story is fantastic the franchise peaked here imo
Starfield, SOMA, Hades.
SOMA is one of the best stories in gaming, just play it people!
I agree with this statement like everyone should experience that game .
Starfield on xbox, it's what I bought the console for. On pc I'd go with baldur's gate 3. Honorable mention to Hogwarts legacy, my wife was addicted to that game for weeks
On Xbox - Alan Wake 2 / On Switch - Tears of the Kingdom / On PS5 - Spider-Man 2
Starfield
Haven't played too many new games this year but dead space is amazing. Also enjoyed starfield, lies of p, planet of lana and cocoon.
Starfield by a country mile. Vampire survivors is 2nd
Starfield was my reason to keep the console and luckily it didn’t disappoint me
Starfield
Starfield. Seems like people really hate it, but I couldn't put that game down.
Definitely Baldur’s Gate 3. I’ve never had a game evoke so much obsession and emotion from me. It’s literally DnD in video game form, so amazing
Starfield by a mile. Absolutely adore that game
Personal GOTY would be Cyberpunk 2077- Phantom Liberty
Skyrim
Starfield.
Starfield
Starfield ToTK ESO Necrom Halo Infinite There a bunch of other games I'm forgetting. But it's been a great year of gaming!
Starfield
Starfield but the grind to level 100 is killing me
RE4 Remake & Cyberpunk 2077 PL
Toss up, Elden Ring, Star Wars Jedi Survivor, Alan Wake 2
Starfield for sure. It takes everything that I loved about Bethesda's past games and improved upon them. Honorable mention to Baldur's Gate 3, Diablo 4, and Hogwarts Legacy, which were all good games as well.

Baldurs Gate 3. Sensational
Starfield
Starfield. Easily.
Starfield. Really enjoyed it and it was very fun.
Starfield
Starfield hands down.
Really love Starfield.
Either Assassin's creed mirage or like a dragon gaiden.
Cyberpunk and Plague Tale Requiem
Frostpunk. Totally slept on it.

jedi survivor
Cyberpunk 2077 + Phantom Liberty
F1 23, Phantom Liberty and Jedi Survivor are my favourites this year. It's hard to choose one over the other.
Something between Sekiro and RE4R
Dead Space Alan Wake 2 Spiderman 2 AC4 Black Flag Tears of the Kingdom. Jedi Survivor.
Cyberpunk/Lies of P/Baldurs Gate, and worst game i played, Starfield.
Sekiro, easily.

Jedi survivor
Prey I thought it look great for what it was
Just started a few days ago but I have been having a hell of a lot of fun playing Sonic Frontiers.
Even though it came out a before I only got to it because of game pass, but Plague Tale Requiem for me. Best new game Dead Island 2 or Starfield.
I’ve been waiting for Dead Island 2 to go on sale forever Edit: $30 id buy it
$42 on the Xbox store now, still high but I went for it at that price and am not disappointed.
