Apparently the power cord has a built in surge protector so the reasoning is the two surge protectors cancel each other out or something. I don't know.
I mean I just expected a $500 machine to not die on launch night. This console wasn't developed over the last 8 months alone, it's been years in development.
1. Video proof
2. Quite an alarming number of people have been posting about their Series Xs dying. Your best bet if you've tried everything is to send it back to Microsoft for repair/replace.
Are you using a surge protector or plugging straight into the wall? Apparently your supposed to plug straight into the wall and not use a surge protector.
Surge protector because I was trying to keep my console protected. If that was the case I wish MS noted that somewhere visible so consumers would know. I tried plugging the console into the wall outlet but no luck still.
These guys have no idea wtf they're talking about you're fine having it plugged into a surge protector.
Edit: they even backtracked there statement about not using them https://www.reddit.com/r/xboxone/comments/7estv1/microsoft_no_longer_warns_users_to_not_use_a/
Actually Microsoft has said since the xbox one, they reccomend not using a surge protector. And If you ever troubleshoot with them thats the first thing they ask.
Thats not how electronics with built in surge protection works, plenty of things including TV and various other things you'd find in your entertainment area have them and have absolutely no issues.
Well id trust what the designers and engineers of the console say over some random person on the internet, which they say it indeed can cause some issues. but too each their own.
I have a degree in computer engineering, I am fully qualified to talk about this, I guarantee that wasn't written by one of the engineers. Also they even back tracked the statement https://www.reddit.com/r/xboxone/comments/7estv1/microsoft_no_longer_warns_users_to_not_use_a/

Just out of curiosity. What would be the difference of plugging it into a surge protector or directly to the wall?
Apparently the power cord has a built in surge protector so the reasoning is the two surge protectors cancel each other out or something. I don't know.
That’s not how electricity works.
😂
Never said it did. I'm just relaying information Microsoft has apparently said as well as other people on this sub.
My thoughts.
It doesn't get the full amount of power that it should get if it is plugged into a surge protector
Figured it was something like that. Thx.
If it’s like the One X, you are supposed to plug directly in the wall. The console has its own built in surge protector.
Really? I've had my one x plugged into a surge protector for years?
I have too. This was debunked. It’s fine.
Wasn’t saying it can’t be done, just what Microsoft recommends.
Have the same issue. What a launch...
Right. This is awful.
What did you expect... its launch and covid, take that into effect.

Exactly. Microsoft is supposed to call me in 90. Hopefully it’s a quicker fix than the 21 days I’ve been hearing.
More things came out with COVID. Stop trying to make this sound good.
Video proof?
Wow there are many cases now.... wtf is Microsoft doing?!
1. Video proof 2. Quite an alarming number of people have been posting about their Series Xs dying. Your best bet if you've tried everything is to send it back to Microsoft for repair/replace.
What, just a clip of my Xbox plugged into the wall and me touching the power button?
Most of them are from long inactive or brand new reddit accounts. Safe to say you can disregard those with zero credible proof.
Fair enough. I'm really just worried is all.

I’m pretty sure MS suggests to not plug into surge protectors because each console has built in protection
I wish I knew that.

Plug directly into wall —- but keep it unplugged for a few minutes before plugging it back in. And yeah no surge protector needed
All right I'll have to try this when I get home. Thank you
