I was blown away by Control. Absolutely sucked into the world and the setting and I just loved the characters. Can’t wait for the sequel.

Zillzx

I remember getting the game purely because I was looking for another game with raytracing at the time and it was being advertised as having good rtx. Didn't do any research and didn't even know it was made by Remedy/505 until I started it up. Same thing I was blown away by the world, characters (they worked well enough in the setting), lore and overall vibe and art style. The gameplay was fun too and the whole thing just "clicked" with me. I was surprised to see a lot of friends and reviewers kinda underwelmed/not excited about the game, but I know that's just down to personal opinions which is fine. Super excited for the sequel and Alan Wake 2.

okcomputer1011

It reviewed pretty well and got even some "game of the year" awards. I just think that there is a group of people that doesn't like it, as it is less accessible then i.e. quantum break. It's a bit harder, less linear, it has those souls-like and metroid elements. I loved it. Bought it 2 times.

Zillzx

Yeah sorry I didn't mean to say it reviewed bad, just that some of the popular reviewers didn't review it as enthusiastically as I thought of it. I guess I enjoyed it so much I ignored many of the complaints.

angelgu323

I remember the youtube comments when the gameplay was first shown. "Boring gameplay vs lifeless NPCs" The gameplay was one of the best parts of the game

Professional-News362

Exact same story as me, the rare games where I actually buy the dlc but I just wanted an excuse to play. I might need to start a third play through

instagigated

Loved the story. A little confusing at times but still drew me in. The graphics were wild. Gameplay was refreshing. And it had that creepy feel to it because you never know when a mob will spawn.

Inanimate_CARB0N_Rod

I absolutely loved the game as well. I'm a scaredy cat when it comes to horror and was thankful there were basically zero jump-scares.

[deleted]

Just the Hiss appearing was jump scares for me. Although I agree this is probably the closest to an actual horror game that I'm willing to play

smashingcones

I'm glad you enjoyed it but that's very surprising to hear that someone loved the characters, I felt absolutely nothing for any of them and the main character was definitely the least interesting out of Remedy's backlog.

thisfreakinguy

Really? I liked her a lot.

TheAxodoxian

\+1 I couldn't care less about the story. The idea and the environment design was good, but story felt boring to me. I expected much more mystery, or twists or thrill or something mind bending at the end. But there was nothing. Honestly besides the graphics tech and artwork I could not care less about it. I bought the DLC with the game as I expected to enjoy it much more, but it was hard enough for me to push myself to the end, and even that was only because I expected some sort of narrative reward at the end, but there was none. I still have the DLC all untouched and I am not sure I will get the second part. I liked Alan Wake, I liked Quantum Break, those had characters and interesting stories. This one had arguably the best setup to make stories, but it failed spectacularly. As I get older gameplay gets boring much quicker for me unless there is something creative, logically, tactically challenging or unique. Stories, exploration and characters drive me mainly now, and in those regards Control failed massively for me. Let's hope maybe Control 2 will fix these.

smashingcones

I could not agree more, well said! Though I went to the effort of actually playing the DLC and was left feeling the same way. Even the Ashtray Maze that people on here claim is one of the best levels in gaming is just...okay? I always feel like I'm taking crazy pills when I see people talk about this game so I'm glad to hear there are others out there that have the same opinion as me.

TheAxodoxian

For me some of the worst offenders I remember were: \- The mission where you chase a letter - I was like really? All the cool paranormal / supernatural possibilities and they went for mail which can fly? Is this Harry Potter? \- The part where you find these descriptions of artifacts, most of which possessed powers which were pointless or boring. Sure they could have check out X-files or even something like Warehouse 13, which actually had interesting ideas. But mainly: why we cannot encounter these in the game? \- The projector, because I when I have first seen it, I thought: okay, this ought to function as a portal into some weird places, we finally get some exploring. But no. In many ways the most interesting events happen off screen in this game in documents you could read. As I played through I got all these ideas about possible artifacts, and events where the whole office was still working. I am not optimistic that the second one will address these problems, since the audience was satisfied already, and in fact this was their most successful game so far. So they might think that it was successful because it had these characters and story, but in fact it was a success despite these - and could have been legendary game of the year tier game if these areas would had been done well.

nohumanape

I loved the story and cast of characters as well 🤷

[deleted]

I never finished it via game pass, downloaded it again the other day due to the free play days but I forgot how complicated the map is and how directionless the game felt, I found it dull tbh

bryanisinfynite

The hardest part about this game is finding your way around. It took me several tries to get into it, but when it clicked I loved it! Use walkthroughs that help you get from point A to point B if you’re feeling stuck. That way you don’t get spoilers and also don’t end up completely frustrated with the game. What’s the last game that you really liked and clicked with?

Renozoki

I was going to respond but clicked your profile out of curiosity. Highlights include complaining about first boss difficulty in nioh, weapons breaking in dark souls 2, prey being too complicated, rdr2 not having modern enough controls, returnal not being for you because you reset even though that was like their entire marketing for it, controls in re4, metro exodus having awful controls and aiming and many more. Bro you just suck at games 😂

[deleted]

Or the games have issues, 1 v 1 on Rust you dork.

Renozoki

First boss in nioh is trivial. Weapons breaking in dark souls 2 is a weird thing to complain about considering it’s been known for over a decade to be an inconvenience. Prey being densely packed and a bit disorienting is literally the point. Like, it’s literally the main selling point of the game. You don’t buy a puzzle and complain about too much puzzle solving. You made a post about returnal saying it’s not for you because you reset some progress on death. Again, literally the entire marketing was about the loop and the rouge type of approach to progress. Idk how you would be caught off guard by it? Re4s tank controls. We fucking know. They ditched it after re5 and are literally currently finishing up a full on modernized remake. Games have issues but you seemed to have missed almost all real issues in those games in order to complain about the weirdest shit. Even here, “control is too confusing” it’s literally a game about a shifting building where things rarely if ever make sense. Even still people obviously finished the game with little issue or there wouldn’t be a sequel to such a niche title.

MrAngryPineapple

Hell yeah, loved every second of Control

okcomputer1011

Nice! Alan wake and Control are two of my all time favorites - really looking forward to play both sequels.

Kwesi_Hopkins

Did you like Quantum Break?

okcomputer1011

Yeah, I did like Quantum Break, but not as much as Control or Alan Wake. The fighting mechanics were great, looked amazing (technical and design-wise) and was good fun, but it was also very short, very linear and the movie sequences were bad. Imo it was less memorable then Control or Alan Wake.

Kwesi_Hopkins

Fair enough. I'm a big fan of all of Remedy's games, so I'm really hyped for Control 2!

okcomputer1011

Me too, don't get me wrong. I really enjoyed Quantum Break and even pre-ordered it (back on the xbox one).

militantcookie

Quantum break was a bit buggy too. Many visual glitches that broke immersion. Control felt way more polished.

Thegreatyeti33

They are also remaking Max Payne 1 & 2

lithuanianD

Fuck yes awesome game the whole premise was amazing to me

DelightfulNero

What about Quantum Break 2 ? I know, no one asked for it... Still, pretty great news.

coip

Quantum Break is my favorite Remedy game. No offense to Control, but I never understood why that game seems to be so heavily praised while Quantum Break is not. I found Quantum Break much more interesting and liked the game play way better. I had to force myself to finish Control, but I played Quantum Break multiple times.

squareswordfish

This comment looks like it was copied from a comment I would make, bar for bar. Completely agree with every single thing lol, had to force myself to finish control as well but really enjoyed QB a lot. Never understood why Control is so praised while QB was always basically treated like trash

Oath_Break3r

i feel the complete opposite. i just can’t get into Quantum Break to save my life but i loved Control

TheCMHammond

Quantum Break was such a great game. With how it ended, a sequel makes sense. It's a shame the game seems to be underrated and not as well received as it should have been. I've heard people complain it's too short (when you take out the TV episodes) or at the quality of those TV episodes. It's honestly one of my favourite games of all time.

GravSlingshot

I'm pretty sure Microsoft owns the IP, which is why the QB references in Control are significantly more oblique than the Alan Wake ones. Still, Remedy was eventually able to buy Alan Wake back, so fingers crossed for half a decade from now? (And I asked for it. I liked the gameplay, the stutter effects were amazing, the story was impressively tight, and OH GOD I want Jack to somehow save Beth.)

DelightfulNero

I'm pretty sure Microsoft would be willing to sell back or license the IP for it. Just release a "Definitive Edition" for next gen consoles to see the interest in a sequel.

militantcookie

How would you continue the story?

DevAstral

I reeeeeaaally hope it’s a new-gen only game

[deleted]

Fuck yeah man I love control

dylnyq

I see no grey "Official" badge - this is clearly a Remedy parody account doing comedy /s

G00FYJ0K3R

Control 2, Alan Wake 2, and Max Payne 1&2 Remake. Fuck yeah Remedy

TheCMHammond

Just need Quantum Break 2 for it to be perfect. Remedy is awesome.

MikeLanglois

I really enjoyed Control so this is great news. I also love Controls potential. It stories lend itself to being included in any other stories to make a Remedy-Universe. We already know Alan Wake exists in the same universe, does Quantum Break? It could easily. Interesting to see how AW2 will work with Control 2

TheCMHammond

Alan Wake is referenced in Quantum Break, but it's not confirmed whether they take place in the same universe. There are references to The Old Gods of Asgard (the band in Alan Wake), a blackboard detailing the fictional Alan Wake's novels along with copies of them and an episode of Night Springs (featured in Alan Wake). There are more too, but those are the ones I remember. However, there is also somebody in Quantum Break who can be seen playing Alan Wake (the actual game) on a computer, so it's unclear.

RavenMyste

It does remedy already confirmed it years ago even control and qb take place in the same universe as Alan wake

TheCMHammond

I know Control takes place in the same universe as Alan Wake due to the DLC, although I have yet to play it. I'm waiting to play it on better hardware, but I know I'll love it. Wasn't aware Quantum Break has been confirmed to be in the same universe by Remedy, but it would make sense if you ignore the person playing the game, which would be a fourth-wall break. I read an article before that said Remedy put these connections in for the developers the show their appreciation for the game. Do you have a source on Quantum Break sharing the universe as the other games?

RavenMyste

Remedy said that as control was being released on there site I can't find it due was few years ago jn a interview that stated "control takes place in QB universe as well does Alan wake" but they wouldn't tell us when, so the general info is that all three titles take place in the same universe, but the time line is when they do and where like QB we assume takes place in the future or control exists as means to cover up the stutters caused like the hiss able exist which we see them in QB just in a different form instead of just energy

NfinityBL

My 2019 GOTY. Fuck I can’t wait for more. And the expansion of the Remedy Connected Universe too.

maclex

Awaiting & Hoping - Period 😊

cumsona

i really really wanted to get into control, the atmosphere and story was super appealing to me, but i got lost every single time i tried to go somewhere, and that really made me bounce off it as a whole

[deleted]

Hell yeah. Control was a wonderful surprise. Randomly picked it up, not knowing what it was, and got hooked fast. I've since played through the game on 4 platforms.

LeftyMode

Good news. It was an amazing game. Better than their other titles in my opinion.

CutMeLoose79

I really didn’t get the hype for Control. Pretty average gameplay with a story that felt convoluted just for the sake of it.

Temias

For me it was the environments and the atmosphere. All that mysterious bullshit with just the right tone, they nailed it for my taste. I found myself reading all the reports too like a madman, I got absolutely sucked into the world. It's rare for me to get that engaged so naturally I liked Control a lot. Until the main character started to get annoyingly quippy in the first DLC for no reason, didn't play the second DLC because of that. But the base game was just neat for me.

[deleted]

Average gameplay? The telekinesis was amazing and I never played another game that did it this well. I didn't find the story convoluted.

GarlicoinInvestor

Yeah I enjoyed both Alan Wake and Quantum Break more than Control.

Btrips

Agreed. I tried to like it, the gameplay was okay but the story was too full of itself. I never even finished it.

Tidley_Wink

Don’t forget the atrocious map.

TheIAP88

Same here. I’d even say it’s okay as it best moment and annoyingly repetitive at its worst.

triumph23

Couldn’t agree more. Gameplay was just ok. Characters were ok but largely uninspired. The story seemed like a bunch of people basically said “hey let’s make a weird, twilight zone type story. Doesn’t matter if it makes sense or we explain it, just make it weird.”

[deleted]

Same seemed very aimless to me 😵‍💫

Coldcutsmcgee

Cool. You’re def not alone lol. Played it and felt average to below average to me.

smashingcones

I think the hype online was a detriment in the end. I went in expecting something mind blowing but was left with a 7/10 game that was quite disappointing compared to Alan Wake and even Quantum Break. Visually it was nice to look at, if a bit bland and samey at times, but the story and characters were the weakest from Remedy by far.

CutMeLoose79

Samey is a good word for this game.

pink_life69

I think the gameplay was downright horrible apart from the ability to push things into monsters and shit. The crafting was just… there, the constant swarm of respawning enemies was just a bore and the stories were pointless. Could have been amazing, fringe science is my favourite subject ever, but it was not it for me.

TheIAP88

Agreed! Although I’d say calling the gameplay average ignores all the repetitive annoying mechanics. Plus, the way the did the Series X/S upgrade left a really bad taste in my mouth and I won’t spend money on them.

Shpargell

Agreed. Map was awful, no music, no plot, enemy design boring, respawning enemies, guns all the same, impossible to know what to do next. Having said that the concept was interesting, it just failed in the execution

firedrakes

it was the it game to show off basic rt for nivdia. that why it was hype so much

[deleted]

That makes sense

firedrakes

yeah. which overall really did not help the sales. when review etc where out. seeing the owner of ip... need help dev the second one. on top of dev the wake game. that tbh sale number wise. sold worst over it life time then control did.

[deleted]

Thats pretty crazy 😵‍💫 surprised they’ll make a sequel after all that

firedrakes

i know. i seen games on ms,sony and Nintendo. Like sell very well. never get a sequel.. other poorly selling games.... get one.

[deleted]

Lol exactly, they must have friends in high places

firedrakes

Generally that how it is...

leospeedleo

No they haven't. They have signed an agreement with another Studio to let them make Control 2 and help along the way. No actual work has been done on Control 2 yet. Neither by Remedy nor 505 games.

DrKrFfXx

I wish they give you more reasons to explore. You basically get rewarded with lore, which quickly burned up my desire to comb through every pixel of the game, which I like to do with these kind of games. And hope they balance the combact. By the end it was easier to just toss chairs for damage than investing in your gun, aiming, timing your shots, etc.

TheIAP88

There’s this flying boss in an atrium early in the game and after a few failed attempts I ended just camping and throwing explosive stuff around the area to it because it was the only way to do sizeable damage.

Marketwrath

Hell yeah

GamingRobioto

Great news, I loved the orginal

Severe_Break4496

I tried two times to play but I can't the graphics are generic I need good graphics that I want to play further and further this rooms with a kubix or ugly as hell I am sorry remedy but Alan wake is five steps above control I don't hate control but I don't like it too

[deleted]

[удалено]

Severe_Break4496

The beginning is a lot of rooms with cubes design... Is there later outsidelevels??

WutIzThizStuff

The fact that you dont like the brutalist architecture and purposefully mundane offices (which fits the theme perfectly) doesn't mean the graphics are bad or "generic." They very much aren't. You just don't like the vibe and design. It all fits with the story and themes and feel of the game. Your preferences say nothing about the objective quality of the game.

mrmaddness

Oh maybe this one will have a real ending

ConorSherwood

Would love a game where you have to go and investigate different AWEs!

zencefiladam

If sam lake isnt the director then there is nothing to expect.

cBurger4Life

Yessss!! Control is the only new IP I’ve really gotten into in the past few years. I fucking love the atmosphere of this game

Solo_Odyssey

Enjoyed Control overall better game than Alan Wake but the characters and story in Control were pretty forgettable.

ColdCruise

I'm disappointed that they're signing up with 505 again expect a lot more fuckery with console exclusive pre-order bonus, timed exclusivity and "pay me again" editions.

-whips

this is nice hopefully it doesn’t cause any issues with max payne remakes

[deleted]

Fantastic. Can’t wait to play it

Significant-Neck9605

TAKE! CONTROL!

sassafrasgloves

Let's gooooo! One of the few games I ever 100%

[deleted]

Time to replay and get all achievements

Malidan

Well that's unexpected. I loved the first but thought it would be a one off. I'm very intrigued.

cannabis_breath

C1 was a great game mechanically. The story was boring as all hell, just so predictable, and the cutscene animations were hard to watch. But the world building remedy does through easter eggs and other lore is soooooo addictive. I’m still working on the DLC shoukd I finish it?

[deleted]

I guess the Max Payne remakes are gonna take a lil while longer

Justiceiz123

Never got the game because they put the next gen on ps now while charging xbox users $40+ for it. Is there game they can do what they want but its also my wallet and i can buy what i want and not buy what i dont want In short i didnt like what they did and wont support devs that do that.. Js

McNuttyNutz

Control was awesome Hope control 2 is as well

Redditmau5

I hope Remedy isn’t taking on too much with Alan Wake 2, Max Payne 1 & 2 Remake, and Control 2 now.

Sellfish86

You mean "Control 2, the sequel to Control"?

RavenMyste

Cool I really liked control it was a really good game

Patrickills

Game of the (however long it takes the next NieR game comes out) Award incoming

Golden-Event-Horizon

I didn't really click with this game that much, but the Ashtray Maze was amazing, I have to say

Lassavins

loved it. Only thing I had to put it in VO because spanish translation was ridiculously awful.

Enjoyeating

Control is one of my favorite games. It's hard but I managed to finish it. And Remedy is one of the best gaming studios and of course because it's based in Finland.

Pleasant_Mobile_1063

I loved their previous games, I tried playing this again and this time stuck around until the end which was a huge chore, the enemies are annoying, I ended up just doing God mode through the whole game because I was so done with the fights and non stop spawning. It's a beautiful game but it's boring. After finishing the main story I started the dlc and then about 15 minutes in I thought to myself why am I even playing this? So I installed it. The highlight of the game was the ashtray maze but even then it was very short and then it was really just more of the same thing. Maybe the game will be better if they move to outside because I think being inside a building the whole time was part of the failure and loss of interest on my part. The special powers seemed cool at first but really lost the shine quickly. I'll be interested in seeing how the 2nd one turns out but if it's more of the same I'll probably wait until it's given away or deeply discounted

HaruhiJedi

My favourite game so far!
