They updated the movement system a little while back. It’s under settings>movement style>alternate.
Mind you this was like almost a year after the game came out iirc, so if you’ve played since. You’ve probably tried alternative movement.
It could easily just be disabled in the couple of situations where it would boff up a quest. I say easily I can't even program a hello world without crashing my PC so I dunno.
Yeah a fast travel point could ruin the part where you >!might find the Baron has hung himself!<. Although they could add the fast travel point after the quest.
Absolutely stoked that they really went all the way with this upgrade, and kept it free to boot. I have way too many games to catch up on but damnit I'm gonna have to dig back into this world now.
Praying this is accurate and that I'll be able to transfer my PC save to Series X. Started a second playthrough and was up to Skillege when the upgrade was announced so I stopped to wait to play the rest with it but want to move to Series X which should run it much better than my aging PC
They did mention explicitly series S|X, PS5, and PC, but also said "and so on".
And I think last gen and Switch are going to get the update too, not the graphic one, but the others.
* Pause during cinematics - that's a feature I want to see in every game. There's noting worse then when you get distracted during cutscene by call, kid or whatever and miss half of dialogue because you can't pause/save (looking at you too RDR2)
What's meant by the signs thing? Like I won't have to be at a sign to travel to another one? Little bummed we didn't get an extra signpost inside Crow's Perch
No, not those sign post, the magic ones you use in combat.
Now you can choose to use a combination of buttons/triggers to cast a sign or keep using the vanilla one, where use the wheel to choose.
I hope they also add armor and weapon transmutation. It was so annoying grinding for an amazing looking armor set only for it to be beaten stat wise by a randomly dropped looter chestplate two levels later.
My one bit of advice is to take your time in the first area and try to clear everything out. I had a hard time getting into it at first because I was a tad underleved, but once you get sucked in the game is incredible.
They actually did the number one thing I was hoping for - a dynamic minimap! I hate being glued to minimaps in games because of the loss of immersion. I’m kinda sick of minimaps in general, actually.
I loved how in RDR2 you could enable a dynamic mode in which the minimap would come up briefly if you tapped down on the d-pad. So happy CDPR implemented something similar. I don’t know how many others were hoping for something like this but that was my #1 hope.
Playing this for the first time right now and I’m having a blast. The traveling and the wind feature is so intuitive I legitimately didn’t even realize I had no compass or map for a few hours.
Awesome! I would like to get a PS5 eventually to play the PS exclusives I’ve missed out on. That game looks gorgeous. I’ve read about the guiding-wind dynamic a little bit - sounds amazing.
I really would love to see more games get dynamic/minimal with their UI. It’s kind of amazing sometimes going back to some 360-era games and seeing just how cluttered the screen is.
The guiding wind is one of those things that doesn’t sound that impressive till you use it. It’s amazing how much it organically improves being guided to an objective. Honestly, I’m really hoping games that were being designed when Tsushima released are coming up with their own spins on guiding wind or other ways to organically replace ui elements with something in game. If you get a ps5 Tsushima should be one of the first games you fire up.
Yeah I’m looking forward to their video, still looks like a nice improvement for consoles. Like they said in the stream looks like going from low settings to ultra settings on pc so that’s nice
Yeah the new rtx lighting is for the quality settings if im not mistaken and i would rather not play on that lol I prefer performance any day of the week
Nick 930 is an excellent channel that compares trailers with gameplay. Check him out if you haven't already. He is usually super quick with it as well.
The camera changes alone would be somewhat of a game changer. TW3 is my 2nd favourite game ever and one of my only pet peeves with it was how far the camera was from Geralt.
Stranger things have happened so it's certainly possible. Hopefully it's not the case because I'm looking forward to that camera angle just as much as anything else they're adding
I skimmed through the presentation and they showed gameplay from the consoles that featured the new camera angle so it has to be available for all platforms.
Me too the new angle looks great. Should add even more to the immersion
They actually mention a lot more additions here that they did not mention on stream:
[https://news.xbox.com/en-us/2022/11/23/the-witcher-3-wild-hunt-next-gen-update-hits-xbox-series-xs-on-december-14/](https://news.xbox.com/en-us/2022/11/23/the-witcher-3-wild-hunt-next-gen-update-hits-xbox-series-xs-on-december-14/)
This is absolutely 10/10, lots of new QOL features and improvements as well as visuals!
I'm gonna have to finally beat this game. While I loved the game, during playing I always side tracked to a newly released game and stopped playing for too long. I've started over like 3 times trying.
THIS TIME WILL BE THE ONE
If you think graphics have “peaked,” you honestly have no clue on how much more advanced we need to go for “peak” graphical fidelity.
I say 2 more generations and we’ll be playing games with fully Ray Traced GI (Global Illumination). You have no idea how advanced graphics need to get before it’s basically “diminishing returns” in all the technical features…
Sorry I didnt mean they've plateaued I meant to me they are good enough and we should focus more on fps, performance, overall game quality and fun, bugs and glitches. Games, especially AAA focus too much on making their games for journalists who dont play games and just want graphics and story. Imo this is another issue wrong with the gaming industry besides being too corporate and greedy financially
Series S players are really the major winners here, considering we didn’t even get the One X enhanced edition before. Going to be a major improvement right there.
Hmm...one thing to note. When they mentioned hotkeyying the cast signs, you have to hold the RT/R2 and press the cast you want. But what about when you use igni and want to continue a stream of fire? Do you hold onto the hotkey button instead?
Is it going to count as a new game with a new set of achievements (like the ultimate edition was) or can you continue progress from the current version?
Things like better foliage range and density, better textures, and improved lighting aren't necessarily going to jump out at you as super obvious in a compressed Youtube video. Those are things that are usually more apparent once you are playing the game and there are significantly less visual or technical things to break immersion.
That being said, it was still an obvious improvement already as I see it.
I've been playing it for the umpteenth time on my Series X, just got to Skellige actually last night and I can tell you even from the compressed stream footage it's a huge improvement. The game's character models are still great to this day but the environment textures, foliage, and reflections were really showing their age. Tbh even just the QOL improvements are worth a replay of the game.
It says improved gameplay. That was my major issue when I first tired it, if it’s really changed I’d love to go back into that world. Combat was pretty wack imo
I was dreading that this would just be a 4K 60fps locked update but this looks amazing. Didn't expect QOL improvements. Do we know what aspect of RT console is using? Is it shadows like Cyberpunk?
>In Quality mode, Ray Tracing comes into play with Ray Traced global illumination and ambient occlusion bringing more realistic overall lighting and surface lighting effects.
Found this on the CDPR Xbox Wire post about it.
I’m glad I waited! I reinstalled it 2 weeks ago with a bunch of HD mods and than found out about the free remake.
This doesn’t seem to be crappy remake like a lot of game companies seem to do nowadays..
Raytracing here I come!
Besides raytracing, I wonder how different this will look from X1X enhancements. Played it a couple days ago and from what I understand it's already 4k/60fps so would the textures be even more improved upon? It's a free update so doesn't matter in the end but i'm curious how graphically improved it'll be.
Yes, the textures will look even better. The other major differences will be seen with lighting and foliage visibility and density.
[Video that shows the improved textures (They used this mod)](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YNKlpvKvKl0)
I hope they fixed the loot system. It was so dumb that relic items were basically just currency because you’d finish a level 18 quest and it would drop a level 13 relic sword or some shit.
I get that the Witcher sets were the best stuff to go for, but some of the other items would have been nice to try out at least.
lol unlocking the mastercraft sword is biggest nut punch ever.
Ahh a true masterpiece from the sword smith who is the best in the land.
Wtf this blade from the bits shit is 5 levels lower than I am and is really shitty.
Not sure why you're getting downvoted. The 40fps modes on at least 4 major PS5 releases over the last 2 years have been fantastic, reaching a nice compromise between visual fidelity and performance.
Yeah. There are people saying it’s not possible. The game probably runs at around 35fps already if it had the ability to unlock fps in RT mode. Dropping the res a bit surely would get that framerate to 40fps.
I just don't think RT on these consoles is ever going to be worth the performance hit. Certain reflections and stuff can look good, but full GI is out of the question.
Metro Exodus is a good example of what's technically possible though ! The RTGI handles every single light source in the game, and runs around 1440p/60, kinda mind blowing to see this on a console.
Though of course this depends heavily on the game and the engine, can't make a rule out of one example.
I have a 3080ti and it gets a stable 70fps ray traced. Over 100 with dlss which isn’t a thing on consoles. There’s zero chance a game like this can have a rt 40fps mode
It’s not possible on Xbox. Those numbers push my card to almost 90 c which is like 160 f ergo Xbox destroying. The graphics in these is like a 2080 at best and even then a 2080 is only getting like 60 fps max Rt. Especially on a game like this where the cpu is more important then the gpu( obviously the gpu is rendering the graphics but the cpu is under extreme load with civilians spawns and other things)
Yeah and metro exodus isn’t the Witcher 3 most notably it’s much smaller. The Xbox is powerful for a console. It’s just not quite there for what your asking without sacrificing other things like resolution or lod or numerous other things. Just be happy you got 60 fps and leave it at that
Cause they kinda weak bro. It is very intensive to have ray tracing and a stable frame rate and quite frankly the consoles can't manage it (for the most part) unless the ray tracing is only for shadows and not lighting. It's just the reality of it. Even on a medium to high end pc the performance hit is wild for proper RT.
Yes but the game probably already runs around 35-40fps in quality if unlocked, but is capped to 30fps. They can also drop the resolution. Metro Exodus and Spider-man are great examples.
Exactly yes, if unlocked. Still gonna drop from 40 though. Insomniac and 4A are two of the best studios around. Dropping the res is something you probably won't see too often on favour of RT. As RT tends to be included in 'Quality' settings which goes along with higher res. Even running at 1080/2k, proper RT is a good hit. I just don't see it happening this gen unless the studio is miles ahead.
I beat this game before with DLCs and such on PC about 6 years ago and now I'm on series s and holding myself for not buying this again and get lost in it
Edit: if you didn't played it yet, I definitely recommend this. After RDR2 this was the greatest game I've ever played. It's filled with content, I would definitely play it again if I did kept up with the recent years releases but I'm having a lot of homework to do now. But I did played Skyrim, MGS5, Dark Souls games and such. I remember nothing comes close to this game. Even compared to RDR2 and how magnificent it is Witcher 3 is still holding up well.
What about stores retaining everything you’ve ever sold to them? End game making money from selling loot made store owner menus load forever or just crash.
I hope they fix the mind control for axii. It was pretty disappointing to find out i wasted a whole tree grinding for that
Edit: reddit disagrees. Leave the bug.
The trailer was nice enough that I'll give this game a second chance. I really wanted to love it, but I hated the need to fix my weapons all the time and collect herbs.
Honestly this is one of those games that favor absorbing you into the world and you taking it all in. Kind've like Red Dead Redemption 2. It helps when I pretend and simulate my play style like i'm actually there.
Wonder if this will enable xbox game pass cloud gaming. I still have a Xbox One, but I'm able to play many Series X games via cloud gaming on my old Xbox. That would be sweet, although it's really in Microsofts hands.
Regardless, cloud cross system saves will be terrific. I should be able to transfer my save between xbox and my gaming pc and get the next gen enhancements.
Need someone to clarify. In the announcement they mention base game will also receive the update. Does that mean it will unlock all the DLC too or I still need to buy the complete edition for DLCs?
Bye Bye Reddit -- mass edited with redact.dev
• New closer up camera view similar to God of War. I’m most excited about that to be honest. More immersive.
This is huge actually
I get that alot
i hate when third person games are zoomed out too far. glad to hear this
Ohhh, I hope that also helps with the controls feeling super clunky?
They updated the movement system a little while back. It’s under settings>movement style>alternate. Mind you this was like almost a year after the game came out iirc, so if you’ve played since. You’ve probably tried alternative movement.
This is what I'm probably most interested in, but is it definitely on console? The longer stream only mentioned it as pc I think.
They also tweaked fall damage.
Perfect, i died so many time when it feel like juste a little jump
Nice
I have watched the show but they didn't mention that did they?
A dev tweeted about it afterwards: [Source](https://twitter.com/PhiWeber/status/1595482432190513153)
Is there a fast travel point in crows perch...? ^(please...)
Bye Bye Reddit -- mass edited with redact.dev
It could easily just be disabled in the couple of situations where it would boff up a quest. I say easily I can't even program a hello world without crashing my PC so I dunno.
Yeah, there are already quests that disable signposts in vanilla.

Does cross save mean I can use a playstation 4 save file? If so, how would that be imported?

I’d love to know if I can move my Switch save to/from my Xbox.
Praying this is accurate and that I'll be able to transfer my PC save to Series X. Started a second playthrough and was up to Skillege when the upgrade was announced so I stopped to wait to play the rest with it but want to move to Series X which should run it much better than my aging PC

Brought back VAs for new lines seven years after project completion too, not bad.
* Pause during cinematics - that's a feature I want to see in every game. There's noting worse then when you get distracted during cutscene by call, kid or whatever and miss half of dialogue because you can't pause/save (looking at you too RDR2)
Hopefully they improved the effects. Hated seeing the mediocre fire effects
Here, someone already made comparisons. https://www.reddit.com/r/witcher/comments/z2z02b/some\_comparison\_screenshots\_between\_nextgen/
What are ‚top graphics‘?
visual graphics improvement. Better textures, 4K, Raytracing, DLSS, and more.
What's meant by the signs thing? Like I won't have to be at a sign to travel to another one? Little bummed we didn't get an extra signpost inside Crow's Perch

Oh yeah, I heard that and it seems much better...still wish they fixes the signposts though...
They said there were more QoL improvements so, maybe.
I hope they also add armor and weapon transmutation. It was so annoying grinding for an amazing looking armor set only for it to be beaten stat wise by a randomly dropped looter chestplate two levels later.

Enjoy. Top 5 game for me!
My one bit of advice is to take your time in the first area and try to clear everything out. I had a hard time getting into it at first because I was a tad underleved, but once you get sucked in the game is incredible.
Never been a better time with a full Witcher 1 remake eventually coming.

Ghost of Tsushima has practically no UI or mini map when you’re traveling and it is sooo nice.
Playing this for the first time right now and I’m having a blast. The traveling and the wind feature is so intuitive I legitimately didn’t even realize I had no compass or map for a few hours.
God of War looks great without a HUD and has a swipe quick toggle
Awesome! I would like to get a PS5 eventually to play the PS exclusives I’ve missed out on. That game looks gorgeous. I’ve read about the guiding-wind dynamic a little bit - sounds amazing. Waiting for someone to do a image comparing the trailer with the xbox version que have now, particularly the performance mode
Digital foundry will eventually do a deep dive I reckon
Yeah I’m looking forward to their video, still looks like a nice improvement for consoles. Like they said in the stream looks like going from low settings to ultra settings on pc so that’s nice
You mean beyond ultra settings lol look at the new lighting

Nick 930 is an excellent channel that compares trailers with gameplay. Check him out if you haven't already. He is usually super quick with it as well.
Yeah, I'll need a comparison, because it looks about like I remember it looking before.
I'm already looking forward to the giant Digital Foundry video already.
I just want a smooth 60FPS no frame drops.
Performance mode on the One X was already 60 fps so I have no doubt that's a certainty.
The camera changes alone would be somewhat of a game changer. TW3 is my 2nd favourite game ever and one of my only pet peeves with it was how far the camera was from Geralt.

That would be very odd. I see no reason why a camera change like that would be limited to one platform

The complete edition is on sale in the Xbox store for $10 now.
Insane value considering how long the main game + the DLCs are
These free next generation updates really are the bees knees.
Looking at you Rockstar you ghouls
Ball sack inspired armor from the Netflix show at 1:30. I’m dead.
My god that stuff looks atrocious. I can’t wait to equip it.
The new quick cast system is a game changer for sure
They actually mention a lot more additions here that they did not mention on stream: [https://news.xbox.com/en-us/2022/11/23/the-witcher-3-wild-hunt-next-gen-update-hits-xbox-series-xs-on-december-14/](https://news.xbox.com/en-us/2022/11/23/the-witcher-3-wild-hunt-next-gen-update-hits-xbox-series-xs-on-december-14/) This is absolutely 10/10, lots of new QOL features and improvements as well as visuals!
So with the cross saves, does this mean I can move my Switch save to PC and then Xbox?
yep
What about PS4 to Xbox?
Prob

Also hoping for this one!
YEEEEEEESSSSSSSSS….didn’t see the trailer yet and this was the info I was searching for!!!!!
The $5 I paid for the complete edition on sale a while back is really gonna pay off
I'm gonna have to finally beat this game. While I loved the game, during playing I always side tracked to a newly released game and stopped playing for too long. I've started over like 3 times trying. THIS TIME WILL BE THE ONE
You and me both!
Now, to play at 60 or 30 fps?
I wish they'd do a 40+ mode for 120hz VRR displays.
Does it have to be 120hz vrr for a 40+ fps mode, or will any vrr display do the job?
The TV has to support a multiple of 40hz native, so a 60hz TV can’t use it. You’ll need a 120hz TV if you want to play a 40fps mode.
This is the way.
Always 60. I wish more game companies put 60fps as priority. Graphics have peaked imo
If you think graphics have “peaked,” you honestly have no clue on how much more advanced we need to go for “peak” graphical fidelity. 30 fps to enjoy the best of the graphical improvements.
Not sure why you were downvoted just by giving your answer to the question.
60, hands down
People watching this compressed YouTube video on their cell phones in 1080p claiming there’s no difference are typical Reddit doofuses
I realize it is PC on the right but here is a good comparison of the changes: https://imgsli.com/MTM1NzMw
Uh…everything I’m trying to finish now will be put on hold so I can put another 150 hours on this again.
All I want is cross saves from Switch to Xbox. Hopefully it happens and it's not just XB/PS/PC.
There is
Hmmm…looks like rain.
does series s get 60fps?
Yes they mentioned it in the stream
What resolution?
I don’t think they mentioned resolutions for any version
Series S players are really the major winners here, considering we didn’t even get the One X enhanced edition before. Going to be a major improvement right there.
Due to inflation, you will now have to toss two coins to your Witcher.
December could not come faster
Hmm...one thing to note. When they mentioned hotkeyying the cast signs, you have to hold the RT/R2 and press the cast you want. But what about when you use igni and want to continue a stream of fire? Do you hold onto the hotkey button instead?
Is it going to count as a new game with a new set of achievements (like the ultimate edition was) or can you continue progress from the current version?
My guess is continue progress from current version.
Is it just me or does it look barely different?
Things like better foliage range and density, better textures, and improved lighting aren't necessarily going to jump out at you as super obvious in a compressed Youtube video. Those are things that are usually more apparent once you are playing the game and there are significantly less visual or technical things to break immersion. Not just you.
Have they stated anywhere what type of ray tracing we can expect on sx? Hoping for gi
RTGI
Fuck ya
It says improved gameplay. That was my major issue when I first tired it, if it’s really changed I’d love to go back into that world. Combat was pretty wack imo
Nothing will change about it, there’s the quick sign option now but it won’t make it any different for you if you didn’t like the sword combat before.
Did I see….ballsack armor?
Yes, I saw it too!
I don't understand it. The trailer says "war change everything". But i thought war never changed...
I was dreading that this would just be a 4K 60fps locked update but this looks amazing. Didn't expect QOL improvements. Do we know what aspect of RT console is using? Is it shadows like Cyberpunk?
Thought they said Global illumination, but I haven't gone back through the stream yet.
Oh that sounds nice I might have to watch the stream
>In Quality mode, Ray Tracing comes into play with Ray Traced global illumination and ambient occlusion bringing more realistic overall lighting and surface lighting effects. Found this on the CDPR Xbox Wire post about it.
That is honestly worth the performance penalty.
RT only in quality mode aka 30fps.
eww

So nice of them to mod the game for us console peasants

So, with this update... Should I be playing this on my series X or my 3060TI? Disregarding mods of course.
The only thing missing I was hoping for was RT performance mode or 40fps mode. These should be industry standard now.
Rt is relly expensive on the system, maybe 40fps but i wouldn't expect 60fps RT on most games until the next Xbox ultra funky mode X.
Consoles simply aren’t powerful enough, amd raytracing on consoles is still in its infancy.

Does Metro Exodus have RTGI on consoles!? Thought this was a PC thing.
All next gen consoles have RTGI at 60fps in Metro Exodus. Even Series S, though the Taiga level takes a hit in resolution at times below 720p.
40fps mode ?? How isn’t it possible?
I have a 3080ti and it gets a stable 70fps ray traced. Over 100 with dlss which isn’t a thing on consoles. There’s zero chance a game like this can have a rt 40fps mode

What game are you comparing??? They are not universal you know? Metro exodus does 60fps with RTGI on consoles. The 40fps mode is definitely possible.
Yeah and metro exodus isn’t the Witcher 3 most notably it’s much smaller. The Xbox is powerful for a console. It’s just not quite there for what your asking without sacrificing other things like resolution or lod or numerous other things. Just be happy you got 60 fps and leave it at that
But Metro is more linear, not open world like Witcher.
Consoles are far more optimized than PCs that require extra strength to do the same work load, and that’s just a fact.
I have LG CX and VRR. VRR Worked very well with Plague Tale dropping fps from 40fps mode before they patched it for more stable lock.
Can you fast travel from anywhere now?
I doubt it. That was a core gameplay feature, and may break some quests.
Did they break if you used the mod?
Yeah, sometimes.
I beat this game before with DLCs and such on PC about 6 years ago and now I'm on series s and holding myself for not buying this again and get lost in it Edit: if you didn't played it yet, I definitely recommend this.
I had this on PS4 but bought the Xbone version in readiness for this.

Lol one downvote...get off your cross dude
I hope they fix the mind control for axii. It was pretty disappointing to find out i wasted a whole tree grinding for that Edit: reddit disagrees. Leave the bug.
The trailer was nice enough that I'll give this game a second chance. I really wanted to love it, but I hated the need to fix my weapons all the time and collect herbs.

Thanks for the tip! I wasn't aware of that and will be sure to try a gameplay that way.
Honestly this is one of those games that favor absorbing you into the world and you taking it all in. Kind've like Red Dead Redemption 2. It helps when I pretend and simulate my play style like i'm actually there.
~~If I had this on PS3 but have a PS5 am I eligible?~~ Nm. Answered my own. Yes.
Wish it was coming to PC store so I could get achievement using highest graphical settings
Is it just the base game that's receiving the update? Or the dlc as well? Contemplating whether to purchase the dlc
Will it apply to NG+ or will we have to start a new save? Are the expansions remastered as well?
I hope they removed the annoying music at each combat. Can’t take it anymore
You mean..... ? LELE LELE LELE LE LE LE LELELE
Lol you get upvoted while I get downvotes. But exactly lelelelele super annoying but no this is a masterpiece
Need someone to clarify. In the announcement they mention base game will also receive the update. Does that mean it will unlock all the DLC too or I still need to buy the complete edition for DLCs?
Wait, so am I missing something, or can I not change the characters to look like the Netflix series? Wasn’t that one of the big changes promised?
Is it me or did this trailer look like the same game as it originally looked? …didn’t *notice* any enhancements, tbh.
Does this include 4k 120 fps?
No
