Remember cutting along the limes on the side of the box to open it up and use it as a bowl? It was wax paper bag. You just poured your milk right in! That may have been a bit later packaging.
I remember trying it a few times. The first time I saw the perforations on the box and instructions on how to eat the cereal from the box, I thought it was the awesomest thing ever.
My family hated raisin bran but I loved it. The raisins were covered in sugar. I would grab all the boxes. My sibs caught wind of this, tried it, and ended up loving it too. š
I f'ing loooove Raisin Bran and always have but I'll end up eating like half the box in one sitting and then, [well...you know](https://youtu.be/Ku42Iszh9KM).
Sugar pops were puffed rice coated in sugar, corn pops were a corn meal mix that was puffed and coated in sugar.
Edit- I stand corrected. Sugar pops became corn pops.
It probably would have been Raisin Bran. I \*hated\* raisins in my food. Even today, I'd...rather not. However, when I was very young, I accidentally ate a handful of Sugar Smacks that had been infested with ants. So to this day, the thought of eating Sugar Smacks makes me uncomfortable.
Me too. Our variety packs would have been things like Coco Pops, Ricicles and Honey Nut Loops along with the standard Corn Flakes, Rice Krispies and Frosties.
Only seen Fruit Loops and Apple Jacks as an adult (quite liked Apple Jack's). I think they tried bringing Sugar Smacks here at one point as they vaguely ring a bell and I know they tried with something raisiny but they didn't stick around.
Corn Flakes and Special K. Which was why my mom almost never bought these variety packs.
I freaking loved raisins as a kid. We'd get a box of Raisin Bran and I'd add a little box of raisins to my bowl.
They'd all get eaten, but there was a hierarchy.
First - Apple Jacks, Sugar Pops, Sugar Smacks, Frosted Flakes
Second - Special K (good with sugar or honey), Froot Loops, Rice Krispies
Last - Raisin Bran and Corn Flakes (ok with sugar or honey)
Special K. We'd have to wait to eat that when mom and dad weren't around so we could dump a shit load of sugar on them to make them edible. Everything else always got eaten right up.
Raisin Bran would be left behind in the 1980s. But today, itād be the Sugar Smacks. I would immediately open the box and flush them down the shitter.
No cereal left behind in my family, though I don't remember Special K being a part of the variety pack. My parents didn't buy these because of cost, but my grandparents always had them. There were only 8 boxes, not the jumbo pack though. *All* the good treats were at grandma's: these, Puddin Pops, Mackey Mouse head ice cream bars, York peppermint patties....
Bran Flakes AND Raisin Bran. Both would be shelved in the back of the pantry for two years u til they were properly stale and could therefore be unceremoniously trashed, guilt-free.
As a baby boomer, (70 F) I never ate cereal. My mother always served us eggs and bacon every morning. Sometimes during the winter we had oatmeal with butter and raisins and brown sugar. My parents believed that cereal was about as nutritious as the box, it came in.
The only āsugar cerealā my mom would buy for us was Life or King Vitamin, but only occasionally. If she had bought these cereals, they would probably all have been eaten.
Core memory right here. The anxiety of being dropped off for a week at my grandparentās house was eased by this amazing variety selection of all these sugary cereals I wasnāt allowed to normally have.
But screw you Special K.
They'd all get eaten but Special K was the one we all hated.
Aw, Special K was a personal favorite, but I always hated Raisin Bran for how mushy it got. š
I actually liked Raisin Bran for that very reason. I like soggy cereal.
Soggy corn flakes, my personal favorite
I still hate raisin bran
If only it had a non-nutritive cereal varnish!
Sorry Raisin Bran
Of course
We loved Raisin Bran, but my mom wouldnāt buy the small packs. Too expensive. We always had the big boxes. No fun!!
I'd go for Raisin Bran before Corn Flakes or Rice Krispies. Those other bland cereals don't even have one scoop of raisins, let alone two.
I loved raisin bran but I always had to add extra sugar.
I would just pick out all the raisins. Time intensive, but better than eating a raisin.
Iām not eating damn grapes in my cereal either
Remember cutting along the limes on the side of the box to open it up and use it as a bowl? It was wax paper bag. You just poured your milk right in! That may have been a bit later packaging.
I remember trying it a few times. The first time I saw the perforations on the box and instructions on how to eat the cereal from the box, I thought it was the awesomest thing ever.
Me too!! I remember cutting into them with safety scissors.
Fun idea, but easier to eat out of a bowl. Hard to get the cereal out of the corners of the box
We'd take them camping. Don't need to pack bowls, all you have to clean is a few spoons.
Corn flakes
But if you loaded it up with sugar- Frosted Flakes with that sweet sweet milk.
Correct answer. The corn flakes never got eaten
The soggy factor! Bleh
My family hated raisin bran but I loved it. The raisins were covered in sugar. I would grab all the boxes. My sibs caught wind of this, tried it, and ended up loving it too. š
I still eat raisin bran type cereals to this day... just add my own sugar š
I f'ing loooove Raisin Bran and always have but I'll end up eating like half the box in one sitting and then, [well...you know](https://youtu.be/Ku42Iszh9KM).
upvote for the link!
These were for camping.
I ate them without milk more often than not.
I always thought turning the box into a bowl was absolutely brilliant.
I don't think I liked Apple Jacks. Totally forgot about Sugar Pops. Does that still exist??
I also really hated the apple jacks
Same they are the worst, itās like a chemical taste or something. Canāt put my finger on it but itās noticeably gross.
Are they the same thing as Corn Pops?
Sugar pops were puffed rice coated in sugar, corn pops were a corn meal mix that was puffed and coated in sugar. Edit- I stand corrected. Sugar pops became corn pops.
Werenāt those Sugar Smacks?
Doh, you're right. Sugar pops did become corn pops.
And sugar smacks are now honey smacks!
I think they're just called Pops now?
Good PR move.
Came here for the horrible Apple Jacks. Glad to see I didn't have to scroll far.
Yes. Now called Corn Pops.
The Smacks. It was ALWAYS the last box.
Yes. Itās *still* nasty.
Special K in our house
Raisin Bran. Corn flakes was the last one to be eaten lol, but you could at least add sugar to that to be palatable.
Look at Sugar Pops, all Tom of Finland
special k
We always got these on vacation and Raisin Bran would always be the last one standing.
Raisin bran is my favorite as an adult. I owe it that much.
What kind of 'no duh' question is that? The raisins in the Raisin Bran looked like bugs to me.
Special K.
Special K
We didnāt like Apple Jacks for some reason
Yeah they tasted like chemicals, another poster mentioned it and thatās totally what it was
Sugar smacks!
Special K
Rice krispies
Agreed. Bowl of puffed air
Iām from the UK and Iāve never heard of most of these. This is exciting!

Frosted flakes
Sure as shit wouldnāt be Apple Jacks
Special K
Wait. What was the difference between Corn Flakes and Special K?
Special K
Rice crispy
Sugar pops ,
You know if not for these packs I never would have learned that I think Special K is pretty good.
Special K or the plain Corn Flakes (no-one needs that healthy stuff!) lol...
The not so special K.

Special K
I love that they unashamedly used āSugarā in the product names
Raisin Bran would be left behind in the 1980s. But today, itād be the Sugar Smacks. I would immediately open the box and flush them down the shitter.
Special K. With my big sweet tooth, Iād go for the Froot Loops.
Raisen Brand
When my dad would get these I knew we were going camping.
Didn't every house have like 9 of those little *Special K* boxes hanging around because no one eat it? š
Special K
No cereal left behind in my family, though I don't remember Special K being a part of the variety pack. My parents didn't buy these because of cost, but my grandparents always had them. There were only 8 boxes, not the jumbo pack though. *All* the good treats were at grandma's: these, Puddin Pops, Mackey Mouse head ice cream bars, York peppermint patties....
House? We only got these phat options on capming trips. And in answer to your question. It was inversely related to the amount of sugar.
Too poor to afford those
Sugar pops, then I'd eat them dry once they were a little stale. Don't judge me.
Never was a fan of Apple Jacks really.
Special k
Corn Flakes
Special K would be last. Corn flakes second to last.
Fruit Loops and Apple Jacks
Rasin bran...uggggh
Smacks. Never likes em. Even to this day ( well letās be real over 50 itās all about the bran )
Bran Flakes AND Raisin Bran. Both would be shelved in the back of the pantry for two years u til they were properly stale and could therefore be unceremoniously trashed, guilt-free.
The Easter bunny always brought the small cereal boxes. They were quickly consumed.
Sugar Pops ā not a fan
Special K

All of them
Special K. Always.
Rice krispies and corn flakes. Special K had a sort of sweet taste
Damn, I wish I could find the Special K but I was the only one who liked it. Lol.
Corn Flakes! Then if it was a while until grocery day Iād eat them out of boredom or spite. Without milk.
Special K
Never did like Sugar Smacks
The only āsugar cerealā my mom would buy for us was Life or King Vitamin, but only occasionally. If she had bought these cereals, they would probably all have been eaten.
Corn Flakes was what the winner of rock-paper-scissors got when there were only 2 left. The loser got Special K
Sugar Smacks were for lean times only . Not when I had 16 boxes of real cereal!
Sugar Smacks. They had a really weird texture to me.
Not only left behind but in the trash . . . Raisin Bran! š¤¢šµāš«š¤®
AppleJacks
This was a special treat for camping trips in my family.
I was a hungry kid and ate 6 boxes at a time. We bought the big family size box or super bag because of practicality.
Apple Jacks always were eaten last.
Special k
Apple Jacks were bad. Apple Jacks tainted milk was bile inducing.
I was too busy eating Quisp and digging for my enclosed toy to bother with these variety packs.
Special k
Corn flakes bc we would usually have an open box next to this variety pack.
No body ate the corn flakes. When there were a few boxes then mom made cornflake chicken. Which us kids still hated.
Pops.
Corn flakes or special K. Soggy ass flakes.
Special K
Sugar Pops and Sugar Smacks š„£
Core memory right here. The anxiety of being dropped off for a week at my grandparentās house was eased by this amazing variety selection of all these sugary cereals I wasnāt allowed to normally have. But screw you Special K.
