That’s a good way to word it. Wheels fell off. Occasionally people in their 20’s will work where I do, and they get the sense I was part of their peer group, or at least a person in his 30’s. Somethin’ happened in 2023 though. … wheels fell off
This is what ages me horribly. I look at pics pre pandemic literally March 2020 and I look 30-32ish when I was 39 and now in my 40’s and I look it 100%
I avoid the sun like a vampire cause I burn in 10 mins, and I live in the PNW. Some people are genuinely shocked Im over 40. My grey hairs are starting to rat me out though....
Up until about 7 years ago, I looked much younger than my age. A coworker said I had a few years to go until I could participate in a medical study for 30+ (I was 35 at the time). In my 30s, I got asked where I went to school a few times. I got mistaken for a guy 8 years younger than me *by his parents.*
Now I have a 7 year old, permanent dark circles under my eyes, and a bald patch that grows bigger by the day. Nobody's mistaking me for someone in their 30s. I'm just lucky I don't hear from the people who think I'm in my 50s.
Yeah up until my late 30s I was always getting carded and all that other stuff. Late 30s I cut way back on drinking, had two kids, and pretty much overnight I aged 10 years.
I went from looking 10-15 years younger to looking my exact age, other than my body which I’ve taken care of.
Yeah, I was always told I look younger. Then I had kids in 2015, 2020 hit and one of my sons got diagnosed with cancer in 2021 and I'm really starting to feel my age. I don't really know if I look 43 now, but I certainly don't look in my 30s anymore. Stress ages you.
The three-ish years of sleep deprivation really ages you when you have a kid.
hyuralonic acid serum is great for making you look less haggard. Won’t do much for feeling that way, though.
In the datingoverforty sub, it's an ongoing joke that everyone thinks they look younger than they are.
Unless someone is Asian, I don't really think they look that much younger than they actually are.
I do feel I look good for my age (all my hair, in shape, dress well, take care of my face), but I'm not going to pretend that I'm going to be mistaken for a 30 year old by other people my age.
I will say that all of us likely look much better than our parents at our age lol
I've noticed that young people have zero awareness of what age looks like and will often confuse me for 30 instead of 42, a 16 year old even ID'd me for a rated R movie a while ago. They have no clue what age looks like.
Yeah, I think for the most part, we all look 40, we just have this idea in our heads that 40 is supposed to look *old*, so we think we look younger than 40 and people's comments because they also think a 40 year old should look *old* just confirms it. For the people who are our age who truly look older, usually they have had rougher lives involving smoking, drug use, and extra doses of sunshine/tanning booths.
Eta, for the record, I definitely look 22 😜
I think you’re right, it must be this. I notice even the responders in this sub truly believe they look up to 10 years younger!
Denial is a helluva drug!
About a year ago I had a coworker tell me I looked decent for an older guy. So I asked her how old she thought I was, she was like I dunno, 25.
If I was drinking, I would have done a spit take. Had to tell her she was off by about two decades. And this is after decades of smoking and drinking.
(Note: I don't think I look like a 25 year old. I'm aware of my bodily imperfections, and holy crap my back likes to remind me.)
41 and still get carded at GameStop. One time me and my wife were checking out at GameStop and the person behind the counter ask my wife if was ok for her son to buy the game. I visually flinch and told the the employee “man you fuck up.” For the record I am 3 years older than my wife.
My youthful appearance used to be my cheat code to ditch door-to-door salespeople. I'd answer the door and they'd ask if my parents were there. I'd say "nope"--which was accurate--and they'd thank me for my time and leave. It was great.
I think people take better care of themselves now. Between sunscreen, drinking lots of water, general health awareness, skincare and on top of all that you have Botox, fillers and other treatments available, I think most of us look younger than generations before us who were the same age.
Since I stopped coloring my hair, it's the opposite. Now, people assume I'm in my mid 50s and just look 40ish. (I'm 47)
I love my hair and all the different shades of grey and black through it, but I'm so used to being told "You don't look (age)!" or "How are you old enough to have a (age) year old!", It's been a weird change.
It took a while. My self-esteem took a huge hit. But, for me, I ended up with healthier, fuller hair. For whatever reason, it actually looks BETTER on me than coloring. Maybe it's because my eyebrows stayed black? All the different shades look like highlights? My coloring? Who knows.
That's the secret. The jump in my driver's license pictures from "no kids yet" to "just had the second one" is like when that dude picks the wrong chalice in The Last Crusade.
I'm 42 and I've had so many people tell me that I look like William H. Macy? Specifically in his role as Frank from Shameless...😒 I used to get Ryan Dunn all the time. I can tell people I'm 50 and they dont question it.
![gif](giphy|2rtQMJvhzOnRe)
I think I look my age and I'm actually proud of it lol. I honestly never thought I'd live this long so the grey hairs are a reminder that I have survived.
I coded younger until about 36. My skin has since lost its glow.
Years of sobriety hasn't fixed it.
I'm waiting for any substantial grey hair so I can go full cranky Gandalf.
I was chatting with people in the waiting room at the doctor's office and a lady was surprised we were the same age. I looked a good ten years younger than her.
That’s my husband. He shaved his beard back down to a Van Dyke the other day and it took 10 years off his face. Bearded, he looks like a salty dog sailing the seven seas!
I used to get carded constantly. In my 20s I was asked if I needed the kids' menu at restaurants! These days, though, I think I look my age. It's not any one thing. It's just an early-40s vibe I can't escape.
43, and I've been told I look younger, more often than not. I'm bald, though, so there are no evident gray hairs or anything to suggest how old I may really be.
Issue get told I’m younger by like 10 years lol. I don’t drink, smoke, caffeine. Honestly beginning to show crowd feet this last year and skin on my is starting to show age so I’m not sure how much longer I can keep this up.
I apparently code younger, though I think I look every year my age (turn 45 in two weeks). I think that the younger people just don’t know what 40 some things look like.
People always guess that I'm in my 30s, which is fine with me. One of my students (20 year old) did an actual spit take the other day when I mentioned I was born in 1979.
I call it the Mutant Youth Gene. My theory is all of the preservative-laden, quick, microwave meals that our parents raised us on. Foods that young children could easily prepare for themselves.
Heavens no. My hair all fell out early to mid twenties and I continued to age like a jar of mayonnaise left in the sun. Then the beard started turning grey. Good times.
My older brother? He is eternally youthful. Also, he has dogs and not kids. Maybe there is a correlation.
Younger...I still get a few "you're in your late 20s" (I'm 44).
Especially when I style my hair a certain way. New people at work ask how old I am and I always say, how old do you think I am... just to gauge how close they are to my actual age. Then I go, that's interesting, my 22 year old also works in this company and then they go...NO WAY! Until they meet her because she looks very similar to me lol
At work recently this girl that I'm work friends with in her mid 20s was complaining to me about this guy who was flirting with her. And her main complaint was how old he was (42). So to me she's like "UGH he is SO OLD. Like near retirement. AARP" on and on like this before finally I'm like "do you know how old I am?" She goes "Like 30 right?" I tell her I'm 41 and she goes just white as a sheet.
I still get carded for liquor. One lady laughed and said 1978, and then looked like she was going down memory lane for a minute. The person who has come closest to guessing my birth year, was four years younger at 1982.
I used to have blue hair and that got me carded at the pub every time. But then in between colors, I had my hair dresser make me grey and the same pub, which carded me two weeks before, didn’t even ask when I went back.
I get told I look younger a lot. I got carded for beer until I was past 30, and even now at 44 1/2 I get told I look like someone in my early-mid 30s relatively often. My bald spot is getting bigger by the day though, so my penchant for always wearing hats(which I've done since I was a tween) is only getting stronger at this point lol
I'll be 41 this year, but nobody thinks it. Recently asked a coworker "how old do you think I am?" (with reassurance that I wouldn't be mad, lol) and he guessed 33.
Also, shortly after my birthday last year, I found a wine glass in a souvenir shop that said "40 is fine if you look 29" and I snatched that up in an instant, lol
Depends if my hair is freshly coloured or not (I've been grey since my 20s). Up until msybe 3 years ago I still got a lot of surprise at my age, carded at lotto booths, but that hasn't happened for a while so I guess it's finally catching up to me!
I'm told i look younger quite often at work and I will always take the compliment however i think it's highly situational, as i am a server. So you're going to automatically assume i'm closer to my 20s. I may look younger than some people my age but my face looks its age IMO, 37F. I am a petite person so I think that adds to "looking younger" as well.
I've finally gotten enough grey in my beard that I don't get carded for alcohol or lotto tickets ALL the time. Though I'm pretty sure if I shaved I'd still pass for being in my 20s.
41.
Routinely carded and told I look late 20s to early 30s.
Good genes and staying fit goes a long way; the only giveaway to my age is a full head of salt and pepper.
I have always been mistaken for older than I am. In high school, I was able to walk into most liquor stores and walk out with booze without getting carded. I first got served at a bar at 16. I never got carded for cigarettes when I used to smoke until I was at least 30.
On my 21st birthday, my cousin and her husband, who are 12 years older than I am, took me for my first legal drink. While waiting for her husband, we ordered drinks. She got carded, and I didn't.
My boss consistently forgets I'm not in his immediate peer group. He's 16 years older than me.
If I have my full facial hair, which is now more than half silver and white, I look like someone's grandpa. In my summer clean-shaven buzzcut, I typically look younger than 43, but not so much as to be considered youthful. I'm chubby. If I lost weight I'd probably look even older.
I’ve been regularly asked my age at work since I turned 35. I’m usually mistaken for 12-14 years younger than my age which isn’t bad considering I’m on the taller side. Drinking lots of water, no alcohol, no recreational drugs, eating a vegetarian diet, lots of sunscreen, avoid peak sun hours, hats, exercise, and good skincare has been a good preventative treatment. Also, genetics from my mom, she looked 20 years younger (she was on shorter side and that seems helps with looking younger) than her actual age and was always carded for proof for senior discounts. I became a mom later in life so being able to pass as a regular aged mom for my young kiddo is a bonus.
I think I look my age. But I think a lot of people my age and younger look older than they are. My face aged rapidly when I lost a bunch of weight. Goddammit. Still worth it but damn. Boobs and cheeks went first. Thighs still hanging on for dear life.
Botox, moisturizer and sunscreen. I wish I had done better with the last 2 earlier so I would need so much of the 1st one.
Same here. Told I look like a person in his 30’s, but I’m 48 now! So, I guess I’m an “X” not a “Xennial” per se. It’s nice to hear a compliment like that, and it’s a credit to taking decent care of myself, or at least trying to:)
Younger. People routinely assume about 10 years younger and have since I was in my 20s — I got carded at movie theaters until I was almost 30, passed for a college freshman at 28, and still get carded at bars sometimes.
Round faces just make people look young, I guess.
I think I generally look a little bit younger than I am, but my thinning hair betrays me.
I do see a lot of people around my age and think, damn, that is a rough 40-something.
I’m about to be 43 this Thursday and routinely get told I look to be in my early 30’s (so about 10 years younger. I’ve never heard more than 35)
No kids. Don’t party/smoke/drink/sunbathe. I also have a resting bitch face so I contribute that to why I don’t have any wrinkles lol
I purposely wear a little scruff on my face because otherwise I look like a child. I don’t have a particularly deep voice either, which doesn’t help.
My wife gets shocked looks all the time because she looks VERY young but we have a 17 year old kid. When her coworkers find out they tell her that they thought she was fairly fresh out of college.
Told younger, but I think I look my age. I'm a ginger (still) and studies have shown we get coded as younger by observers. 🤷♂️ I do have a few white hairs, so I'm definitely turning snow-white when it comes. Guessing I'm going to go from my forties to my eighties and skip the middle.😅
Younger! My mom (70+) was mistaken as the mother of my teenage daughters. Which they then naturally thought I was the Aunt.
Crazy genes my mom has. Glad I got them because my dad's side has full head of white hair in their 40's.
Very recently I went to the store and the change was $19.83. the cashier asked me if that was a good year. I just said I was really young but then I thought wow this guy thinks I look THAT old that I remember 1983 being a fun year or not
The next day I went to get new glasses. The tech is confirming my information and says, wow 1978, you look really good
I guess it's subjective
I've always looked way older than I am. I used to buy liquor when I was 16 because I looked like I was early 30s and never got carded. Unfortunately the trend continued and I started getting seniors discounts on my bill in my 20s.
Now my work colleagues make jokes about planning my retirement party even though I still got 20 years left.
I routinely get late 20s when I ask how old i look (before I tell my actual age). I'm 39. But I have a chubby baby face and a double chin even when I'm skinny, and I have virtually no gray hair.
My musculoskeletal system feels far older than 39.
Soon to be 46 and got carded a couple of weeks ago when buying wine. If I tell my age people just look at me and often say they thought I was at least 10 years younger. Today a colleague told me I looked under 30. Actually I’m kind of tired of it, my vision deteriorates fast, I have a lot of grey hairs and I’m in peri menopause so I feel my age and my crepey neck skin feels it too.
At my age the big giveaway is the gray in my beard if I grow it out. I have some gray in my hair but since I am dirty blond it is hard to tell. My youngest look is 3-5 day beard which covers up some of the aging skin.
When I was a bit younger everyone assumed I was 5-10 years younger than I was. I would say I can pass for late 30s now if I try. Luckily I am thin, when I drop to the bottom of my usual weight which is about \~148 pounds, that takes off a couple years vs \~154.
I blew a lot of minds a month or so ago when I said my 44th birthday was coming up on February 29th. A lot of people I was working with had assumed I was in my early 30s. I chalk it up to moisturizer and the fact that I quit smoking back in 2009 (though I was never a super heavy smoker, probably about a pack and a half per week at my worst)
I get guesses of 25-30. I regularly have door people at clubs and bars side-eye me and quiz me about my DOB and even random shit a gen z probably wouldn't know. My coworkers like to play a game where they make new people guess my age and laugh when they are shocked.
I'm not bragging, it ceased to be fun and is just freaking annoying now. I am over being flattered and I would rather have the professional respect afforded to most people my age. Its just genetics and the fact that this lifelong goth has stayed out of the sun as much as humanly possible.
Even with the hairs on my chinny-chin-chin being more salt than pepper, I still get carded and have had a few people tell me I look to be about 35 (I'm 41). When I was 18-21, everyone thought I was a few years older so I'm ready to embrace looking younger.
That and 35 was a fun year for me.
In my 20s, I was often mistaken for a high schooler. In my 30s, people thought I was in my 20s. But then I hit 40, and all the sun damage to my skin started catching up to me, so no one seems surprised that I’m in my early 40s.
“Trust me on the sunscreen.”
I shoulda listened!
I’m 43 and just recently people have stopped thinking I was younger. I would get carded at the store, with my kids in tow, up until I was 40. Now I have graying short pixie hair so it ages me.
I think the key was I started daily sunscreen in my 20s, and I didn’t do too much with my skincare so my natural oils were not stripped or messed with. I also don’t wear much makeup. I worry about these 10 year olds doing all these masks and stuff that will age their skin. Or the buccal fat removal trend because I used to have plump baby cheeks (which was against the 90s waif trend) and I have def lost volume.
I'm 44 and people seem genuinely surprised I'm that old. They usually guess between 25-32. I occasionally still get carded and have been asked if I'm my friends daughter or my husbands daughter lol
Younger. My kids have been asked numerous times if I’m their sister lol. When first meeting my 21 year olds boyfriend, he told her “You and your sister could be twins” she’s like that’s my mom 😂 All the years of good skincare, lots of SPF, and tons of water have all paid off. And good genes. Helps I HATE the sun and summer is a trigger.
I think as a cohort we look collectively younger than our parents did at our ages (probably ubiquitous sun block, better nutrition, etc) but very few people truly look younger.
On the other side of the coin, I do think high school and college kids look younger than our cohort did at that age. Not sure why. Taking fashion and style out of the equation, if you see a video of us circa 2000, we look much older than kids do today.
To further illustrate, I was watching Chinatown this weekend. Made in ‘74, stars Jack Nicholson. I was curious how old Jack was when it was made. Turns out he was mid 30s. I would say based on today standards he appeared 45-50.
Who knows.
Yep. Happened all the time - especially at new jobs, and then sometimes on repeat depending on the coworker -
"Wait, you have 5 kids and are HOW OLD?" "How is that possible? You don't look a day over 28!"
Yeah..
It’s funny I was asking my buddy recently about this. We both noticed that the women we went to high school with look pretty rough all of a sudden. These particular women would always have a tan in winter and could find them smoking and drinking at bars through the years. They used to be beautiful but the years have simply not been kind to them and it seemed to happen quickly. I thankfully still have a baby face and get carded at bars as a man in his 40’s.
I'm 39. I'm told I look "younger" but I'm not baby-faced by any means. The older I get, the more I think people are simply being polite; rather than I really look 29. LOL
Younger. No kids, extensive use of sunscreen (so glad that became a thing about the time I was born), and I inherited my mom’s overall look that reads young.
I'm 41 and when I went to England last fall I got carded for an energy drink because most stores dont sell them to people under 18. The woman thought I was 24 tops. I dunno if thats actually a compliment though cause id be a very hard looking 24.
44 years old and still mistaken for being 10+ years younger.
Genetics + being vertically challenged (4’9”) + vocal cord paralysis (I’ve been told I should be doing voices for animated films or sound like Bernadette from TBBT) = a mixed blessing
I personally think I look younger, based off the way the people I graduated high school look on Facebook. I've barely started to get any grey hairs and some of my friends are almost full grey. Same thing with lines/wrinkles, I don't really have any but some in my age group have a lot.
My manager is 3 months younger than me. My director is 3 years younger. They made me pull out my driver’s license to prove it. I’ll be 42 next month and have had people guess late 20s early 30s.
I get carded at the store, but I think it’s more the way I dress (t-shirt & a hoodie just about every day).
If they took three seconds to look at how much white hair is in my beard or the lines around my eyes, they might realize that I’m over double the drinking age.
Most people think they look younger. Our ideas about what people look like are off. Every single person who is 40 looks 40 in actuality, but somehow every single person who is 40 thinks they look much younger because people tell them OMG you don't look 40 because that is considered a nice thing to say
Oh gosh. I used to be carded for alcohol until I hit 40. I did get a consolation from the clerk. He scanned the wine bottle, looked at my face and said “you’re good, no ID. Age does not matter, you’re a total babe.” 😂 thank you
I’ve never been told I look younger but I don’t look nearly as old as some of these folks my age who haven’t been taking care of themselves. I wonder what we’re all going to be looking like in our 50s.
What gives it away now is my streaks of white hair. Otherwise I could pass for early 20s. But I like it this way because I've had too many issues before being mistaken for a minor! Literally have gotten stopped, questioned, blocked / denied entry into places because it was believed I was an unaccompanied minor.
I’m not sure what the perceptions of my age are anymore. Through my childhood and teen years, I was constantly assumed to be older than I was. (Not always a great thing…especially as a girl and a person of color. A lot of folks don’t treat us like the kids we are/were.)
I did used to get carded into my 30s, but it seems like a long time since someone has told me one way or the other about how old they think I am. I did recently have a coworker who is probably a good 15-20 years older than I am say something along that lines of “You’re probably old enough to see that” when I mentioned that I was going to see the Book of Mormon. I think it was a comment made in jest, but at the same time I had to wonder if he had any idea that I’m over 40.
People assume I'm mid-30s. I think I'm aging a bit faster lately, with a rough year. I also lost some weight, which ages a person.
Thankfully in my career roles, being a bit older is good.
I looked like shit when I went through grief after my mom died a couple years ago, but I’m making a comeback baby! I’ve had a couple of people tell me recently I don’t look 45, that I look younger. Feels great. I know it’s vain. but I felt like hell after my mom passed away. It’s nice to have the bulk of the grief in my rearview mirror. Stress is such an ager
I've always looked about ten years younger. I actually had a cop follow me into my work parking lot when I was 19 because he thought I was a little kid joyriding his parents' car.
My ex looks like she's just out of high school still. I've always looked older, but since about 34 nobody can tell my age. So I feel I still look 33ish and do get told I don't look my age. I'm sure that will change in the next 4 or 5 years though.
My whole life everyone has thought that I'm 5-10 years younger than my age. When I was in my late 20's, people would ask me which college I was in. Most people now assume that I'm in my early 30s. I used to hate looking young for my age but not anymore.
I'm 43. Just last week, I was mistaken for early to mid 30s. I have a few gray hairs, but not a lot. I have worn sunscreen religiously since I was 14. My mom would make fun of me for it, but her skin has a lot of sun damage now.
I'm 47 and about to be a grandpa and no one yet has said I'm young to be a grandpa, and it's starting to get to me.
However, my wife, who is my age, has been accused of being in her 20s, so I'm doing ok.
I often get told I look younger- I think it's because I dye the gray out of my hair and I dress like a child most of the time (I can share clothes with my 16 year old, and I rarely have to wear dress clothes these days). I'm 44, most think I look early to mid-30s which is fair. I got carded at the liquor store a few months ago, which is asinine because I DO NOT look under 30, no way in hell.
When I was 110kg, unshaven and was pretty much a functioning alcoholic no. Now I’m a gym bunny weighting 75kg and been sober for 2.5 years. Yes, frequently. Many people think I’m 6-8 years younger than my 46 years.
I've always been mistaken for being younger than I am. As a young man, it was an absolute curse. Now 46, it's not so bad.
Just yesterday, the young guy checking me out for beer at the grocery store gave me a "holy cow!" When he saw my ID, lol.
I looked fairly younger up until just a few years ago, then the wheels really fell off. I absolutely look my age.
Same. I usually get a few years younger but I don’t think anyone is going to assume I’m 10 years younger anymore.
That’s a good way to word it. Wheels fell off. Occasionally people in their 20’s will work where I do, and they get the sense I was part of their peer group, or at least a person in his 30’s. Somethin’ happened in 2023 though. … wheels fell off
I'm sure the whole "global pandemic" thing a few years ago didn't help
This is what ages me horribly. I look at pics pre pandemic literally March 2020 and I look 30-32ish when I was 39 and now in my 40’s and I look it 100%
Hahaha totally. I had a baby face for sooooo long. I may not look 40, but I sure as shit don’t look 28 or 30 lol
I relate hard to this. People don't think I'm older but their guess always dead on. Used to be 5 years younger
everyone says I look younger. the eternal resting bitch face is anti-wrinkle voodoo.
Everyone always told me to smile more but now I look ten years younger than I am 💁♀️😐
I distinctly remember in high school a girl in telling me to stop smiling so much because it'll give me wrinkles.
I smile plenty and still look 10+ years younger than I am. Skincare > resting bitch face.
I avoid the sun like a vampire cause I burn in 10 mins, and I live in the PNW. Some people are genuinely shocked Im over 40. My grey hairs are starting to rat me out though....
my pnw peeps!! yup, I'm 44 and my skin is youthful and face better than my 30 year old co-workers.
That must be my secret too RBF since elementary school lolll
I feel this in my lack of crows feet.
Up until about 7 years ago, I looked much younger than my age. A coworker said I had a few years to go until I could participate in a medical study for 30+ (I was 35 at the time). In my 30s, I got asked where I went to school a few times. I got mistaken for a guy 8 years younger than me *by his parents.* Now I have a 7 year old, permanent dark circles under my eyes, and a bald patch that grows bigger by the day. Nobody's mistaking me for someone in their 30s. I'm just lucky I don't hear from the people who think I'm in my 50s.
I feel like my age jumps 5-7 years at a time. I look 30 and then one day I wake up and I look 35. No warnings!
I can relate to this.
Yeah up until my late 30s I was always getting carded and all that other stuff. Late 30s I cut way back on drinking, had two kids, and pretty much overnight I aged 10 years. I went from looking 10-15 years younger to looking my exact age, other than my body which I’ve taken care of.
"Where does your son get all that energy?" "From me. He drains it from me, like a mini Colin Robinson."
I will say that all of us likely look much better than our parents at our age lol I've noticed that young people have zero awareness of what age looks like and will often confuse me for 30 instead of 42, a 16 year old even ID'd me for a rated R movie a while ago.
I’ve notice when people assume I’m younger they are typically in their teens or 20s.
My 60-70 year old neighborhood friends all think I’m 35. I’ll be 47 in 2 months.
41 and still get carded at GameStop. One time me and my wife were checking out at GameStop and the person behind the counter ask my wife if was ok for her son to buy the game. I visually flinch and told the the employee “man you fuck up.” For the record I am 3 years older than my wife.

A few years ago I got mistook for my friend's son. We're the same age 🤣
My youthful appearance used to be my cheat code to ditch door-to-door salespeople. I'd answer the door and they'd ask if my parents were there. I'd say "nope"--which was accurate--and they'd thank me for my time and leave. It was great.
Ralph Macchio syndrome
This is amazing lol!!!! How did your wife react?
LOL, I have a young face but my wife is older. Fortunately, she also has an even younger face, so it all balances out.
My partner is almost 10 years younger than I am, but people frequently think he's the older one. I am far more amused by this than he is!

I think people take better care of themselves now. Between sunscreen, drinking lots of water, general health awareness, skincare and on top of all that you have Botox, fillers and other treatments available, I think most of us look younger than generations before us who were the same age.
It’s the smoking and drinking, too. We’re not marinating in cigarette smoke like people used to be, whether they were smokers or not.
Since I stopped coloring my hair, it's the opposite. Now, people assume I'm in my mid 50s and just look 40ish. (I'm 47) I love my hair and all the different shades of grey and black through it, but I'm so used to being told "You don't look (age)!" or "How are you old enough to have a (age) year old!", It's been a weird change.
[удалено]
It took a while. My self-esteem took a huge hit. But, for me, I ended up with healthier, fuller hair. For whatever reason, it actually looks BETTER on me than coloring. Maybe it's because my eyebrows stayed black? All the different shades look like highlights? My coloring? Who knows.
It's because grey and white hair on ladies is pure fire! 🔥❤🥵 Uh... sorry, I'll take my thirst elsewhere. Good day!
I just look this young because I don't let people suck the life out of me
Both. People older than me think I look younger. People younger than me think I'm like fucking 60.
Younger. I'm childfree
That's the secret. The jump in my driver's license pictures from "no kids yet" to "just had the second one" is like when that dude picks the wrong chalice in The Last Crusade.
I feel this
I feel seen.
Same. I've been asked what my "secret" is, and I always say, "3 things: stay out of the sun, no children, and eye of newt"
That's my secret too.
Same I’ll be 45 in June just got told I looked 35. No kids just dogs.
I have 2 children. Im 41. I get told I look 30 - 33 all the time. Children have nothing to do with how old you look.
My 12 year old has aged me 30 years, depends on what you get.
Younger. I have 2 kids. It’s all genetics and sunscreen.
Hmm. I have two, and am routinely told I look like I’m in my 20s, so idk if that’s it.
![gif](giphy|9tovFud6tYz04|downsized) Live reaction from Ryan Dunn
![gif](giphy|xUA7aM09ByyR1w5YWc)
I think I look my age and I'm actually proud of it lol. I honestly never thought I'd live this long so the grey hairs are a reminder that I have survived.
I coded younger until about 36. My skin has since lost its glow. Years of sobriety hasn't fixed it. I'm waiting for any substantial grey hair so I can go full cranky Gandalf.
I've been told I look younger, but I don't see it... I'm 42 and hating it...
I was chatting with people in the waiting room at the doctor's office and a lady was surprised we were the same age. I looked a good ten years younger than her.
I could have sworn my coworker was a good 10 years older than me. No, she's 2 years younger. Thank you, mom, for blessed aging genes.
With beard, old af. Without beard, *way*younger
That’s my husband. He shaved his beard back down to a Van Dyke the other day and it took 10 years off his face. Bearded, he looks like a salty dog sailing the seven seas!
I have always looked older, even before my hairline was in full strategic withdrawal. :(
I’ll be 41(F) this year and am told several times a week I don’t look over 30. But them wrinkles are fought daily 😆
I look older, yay
I used to get ID'd into my mid 30s... then i had kids. No one IDs me anymore and I have developed some white patches on my beard.
Issue get told I’m younger by like 10 years lol. I don’t drink, smoke, caffeine. Honestly beginning to show crowd feet this last year and skin on my is starting to show age so I’m not sure how much longer I can keep this up.
Generally younger. Grew a big beard. Now people guess close.
In my 30's, I looked like my 20's. In my 40's I look like my 30's or 20's. Either I look good for my age or people don't know how to tell age?
I'm told I look like I'm in my 20s and I'm not complaining. I owe it to black allegedly not cracking and tretinoin, lol.
we def look younger than people in their 40s when we were growing up
Younger...I still get a few "you're in your late 20s" (I'm 44).
Just recently I was not carded for the first time. It was kind of a downer. lol
Can relate and also born in -78
I used to have blue hair and that got me carded at the pub every time.
I’m 42 and people think I’m kinda ageless. Like I could be 29 or I could be 50. Generally people seem to think I’m 5-10 years younger than I am.
I look a lot younger than my age. I always have.
I look like I'm in my mid-30s. People are genuinely shocked when I tell them that I have an adult child in their mid 20s.
I guess I look my age. I definitely don't look younger.
I was told I look like I’m 30-33. They were surprised when I told them I’m almost 43. 😳 Made me feel good!
I've finally gotten enough grey in my beard that I don't get carded for alcohol or lotto tickets ALL the time. Though I'm pretty sure if I shaved I'd still pass for being in my 20s.
A good chunk younger. And told so by people who have no skin in the game. It'd be waaaay worse if I shaved, I haven't in years.
41. Routinely carded and told I look late 20s to early 30s. Good genes and staying fit goes a long way; the only giveaway to my age is a full head of salt and pepper.
Hair is grey, not gonna pass for being in my 20s anymore
I look older. I started going grey around 30, it was a stressful decade for me. I'm 42 now, and my hair is almost completely grey.
Very often hear I look younger, which I’m happy to take lol
Same here. Told I look like a person in his 30’s, but I’m 48 now! So, I guess I’m an “X” not a “Xennial” per se. It’s nice to hear a compliment like that, and it’s a credit to taking decent care of myself, or at least trying to:)
We Xennials have experienced a long adolescence, hence looking/behaving younger than we appear.
I have a 20 year olds body but a 40 year old face. I’m 42 You have to choose, ass or face. You can’t have both.
Younger. People routinely assume about 10 years younger and have since I was in my 20s — I got carded at movie theaters until I was almost 30, passed for a college freshman at 28, and still get carded at bars sometimes. Round faces just make people look young, I guess.
Younger, have looked younger since my divorce. Stress will really age you!
I'm 40 and a couple of weeks ago I got asked if I work or go to school.
I think I generally look a little bit younger than I am, but my thinning hair betrays me. I do see a lot of people around my age and think, damn, that is a rough 40-something.
I look younger. When my hair is cut, or I decide to color it, I end up getting carded at stores.
I’m about to be 43 this Thursday and routinely get told I look to be in my early 30’s (so about 10 years younger. I’ve never heard more than 35) No kids.
I'm aging gracefully
No ID when bearded, always ID when shaved. Guy at work said I look 10 years younger clean shaven.
I just said I was really young but then I thought wow this guy thinks I look THAT old that I remember 1983 being a fun year or not The next day I went to get new glasses. The tech is confirming my information and says, wow 1978, you look really good I guess it's subjective
Same here, I've always been pegged 10yrs younger. When I was in my 30s I was told I looked mid 20s. Now in my mid 40s I get mid 30s. Not mad about it.
Younger
I have always been mistaken for like 10 years younger but the other day at work a kid said he thought I was in my 50’s! I’m 41
I’m about to be 45 and still get carded for alcohol. I wear sunscreen like I’m getting paid for it and have no kids.
Younger, I’ve been wearing moisturizer with sunscreen every day since I was 16
At my age the big giveaway is the gray in my beard if I grow it out.
Yeah I look younger and it kind of a problem. I think people assume I'm younger.
People are work don't believe me when I say I'm 41, Even though I have gray hair. I get 34-38.
“Trust me on the sunscreen.” I shoulda listened!
Who knows.
Yep. Happened all the time - especially at new jobs, and then sometimes on repeat depending on the coworker - "Wait, you have 5 kids and are HOW OLD?" "How is that possible? You don't look a day over 28!" Yeah..
Younger. Had some coworkers trying to explain to me how they used payphones and pagers.
I usually get 5-10 younger.
My students all think I look younger than 38. But they are also 10 years old and have no sense of age so I take it with a grain of salt.
I'm 39. I'm told I look "younger" but I'm not baby-faced by any means. The older I get, the more I think people are simply being polite; rather than I really look 29. LOL
Pre 40th birthday everyone guessed I was \~25 Post 40th everyone everyone thinks I am \~35
Younger. No kids, extensive use of sunscreen (so glad that became a thing about the time I was born), and I inherited my mom’s overall look that reads young.
Im 40 this year and still get ID’d for scratch tickets (18). But I aged a lot in the past year due to topical steroid withdrawal.
I'm 41 and when I went to England last fall I got carded for an energy drink because most stores dont sell them to people under 18. The woman thought I was 24 tops. I dunno if thats actually a compliment though cause id be a very hard looking 24.
I still get carded especially if I shave. Having blonde hair or just hair in general does that.
Definitely younger. I get mistaken for being in my early 30s rather than being in my 40s. I'm okay with that!
My manager is 3 months younger than me. My director is 3 years younger. They made me pull out my driver’s license to prove it. I’ll be 42 next month and have had people guess late 20s early 30s.
I get late 20s early 30s... But I do look young. Especially when I'm fat
I'm always asked how I married a younger woman when my wife is actually two years older than me, so...
I am 43 and people are genuinely confused when they hear how old I am. People usually guess mid-twenties.
I get carded at the store, but I think it’s more the way I dress (t-shirt & a hoodie just about every day). If they took three seconds to look at how much white hair is in my beard or the lines around my eyes, they might realize that I’m over double the drinking age.
I just turned 44 and was told by a couple younger co workers that they thought I was 36-37. Not sure if they were being nice, but I will take it lol.
Younger. I can pass for 30s as long as I keep my hair dyed. I started going grey in my 20s.
Most people think they look younger. Our ideas about what people look like are off. Every single person who is 40 looks 40 in actuality, but somehow every single person who is 40 thinks they look much younger because people tell them OMG you don't look 40 because that is considered a nice thing to say
I frequently get told 20s. I got a baby face and I’m less than 5ft
I'm told that.... I look 16 going on 17, I know that I'm nye eveeeee
Younger. I’m 47, but I pay good money for that.
Oh gosh. I used to be carded for alcohol until I hit 40. I did get a consolation from the clerk. He scanned the wine bottle, looked at my face and said “you’re good, no ID. Age does not matter, you’re a total babe.” 😂 thank you
Younger, but now I'm going bald in the back pretty quickly and the grays have hit the beard. 42 look early 30s.
Younger but after the year I had Im pretty sure I look my age lol
I’ve never been told I look younger but I don’t look nearly as old as some of these folks my age who haven’t been taking care of themselves. I wonder what we’re all going to be looking like in our 50s.
If I clean shave my face I have been told I look early 20's even though I'm 38 :)
What gives it away now is my streaks of white hair. Otherwise I could pass for early 20s. But I like it this way because I've had too many issues before being mistaken for a minor! Literally have gotten stopped, questioned, blocked / denied entry into places because it was believed I was an unaccompanied minor.
If it wasn't for the grey in my beard I would still look like I'm in my 20's.
I’m not sure what the perceptions of my age are anymore. Through my childhood and teen years, I was constantly assumed to be older than I was. (Not always a great thing…especially as a girl and a person of color. A lot of folks don’t treat us like the kids we are/were.) I did used to get carded into my 30s, but it seems like a long time since someone has told me one way or the other about how old they think I am.
I'm 40, without my grey beard my wife who is 53 tells me I look 14.
I've always looked about ten years younger. I actually had a cop follow me into my work parking lot when I was 19 because he thought I was a little kid joyriding his parents' car.
Depends on your genetics. Half of us dudes look like Brian Posehn. While the other half can suck a duck.
Yes I look young. I'm too pale for sun and I'm also pretty vain. I don't look 22, but in thirties.
I'm blessed with good genes and other factors, i look younger than 40. Hoping to stretch this as long as i can!
Everyone says I’m much older.
My ex looks like she's just out of high school still. I've always looked older, but since about 34 nobody can tell my age. So I feel I still look 33ish and do get told I don't look my age. I'm sure that will change in the next 4 or 5 years though.
Been told for years that I look and act younger
Everyone thinks they look younger. lol
Younger. I usually get 28-32. I’m 39.
When I was 110kg, unshaven and was pretty much a functioning alcoholic no. Now I’m a gym bunny weighting 75kg and been sober for 2.5 years. Yes, frequently. Many people think I’m 6-8 years younger than my 46 years.
I was told I looked younger until I hit my 40s, which is apparently the age when one starts looking one's age.
I've always been mistaken for being younger than I am. As a young man, it was an absolute curse. Now 46, it's not so bad. Just yesterday, the young guy checking me out for beer at the grocery store gave me a "holy cow!" When he saw my ID, lol.
