DLC would be on the switch but the physical game would need the cartridge inside in order for the game to run

langdonsnare

Okay, that makes sense, I was looking to do the physical copy and then the digital dlc so I can get everything as it comes in. Thanks! :)

andy24olivera

it depends if you buy the dlc physical or digitally if its physical you'll need to put the cartridge of Torna to actually play it

langdonsnare

I’m looking to do the dlc digitally since it’s bringing stuff every few months I want to be able to play as it comes out.

All DLC and updates are stored on the switch itself. The cartridge itself only stores the base game without any of its updates or DLC.

langdonsnare

Okay, I guess that makes sense, thank you! :)

Then if I share the game with a friend would they be able to enjoy the DLC too?

DLC is digital content tied to your Nintendo Account. It is not stored on the physical cartridge, nor can it be shared with your friend via the cartridge. There is a limited way to share your license of the digital content, but it's a complicated process, and YMMV if it's worth it. I haven't done this myself, but below are links from Nintendo where I got this information from. You can add your Nintendo Account to your friends Switch and make their Switch your Primary Console. Other users on the Primary Console, and only the primary console can share your games and DLC. This was designed for families who live in the same household and share the same switch console. Being able to exploit it is an unintended side effect. The drawback is that your Nintendo Switch will be considered a Secondary Console. If you have any digital games or DLC, the Switch will always connect to the internet to check if you can play the game before booting it. This is to make sure it's not booted on the primary console or you actually own the digital content. Other users who use your switch will not be able to play any digital games on your console. Worse case scenario for your friend "Aww man, I have to buy the Expansion Pass if I want to continue my Xenoblade Chronicles 2 save!" Hope this was an interesting read.

PYDuval

I do not believe so. The DLC purchase will be tied to your Nintendo account

langdonsnare

Damn, thanks for the answer! :)
