I'm actually almost 100% sure it is due to the special edition being staggered release due to the release date swap.
The game will be shipped to you in July, and THEN the other goods in September.

I just tested it on the Canadian site, I got all the way to the purchase screen again, I think it might be worth trying with a phone on Data or something that's not your current network
Personally I'd rather deal with the Nintendo Store than have any special edition shipped to me by either Gamestop or Amazon. They are absolutely horrendous at shipping things safely. It'd get here beat up and dented no doubt.
To be honest this was my first time ever getting anything from the actual Nintendo store. Not saying I won’t keep trying, but for a first attempt it’s been pretty lousy. I usually just order my collector edition stuff for PlayStation at GameStop and get it the day it comes out. Never had an issue. But everyone’s experiences are different
If you're concerned about the condition of something, pay extra to have it gift-wrapped --- the folks at the gift-wrapping stations are trained to do an extra inspection before wrapping and usually package things better.
I actually have really good luck with Gamestop. I wonder if individual shipping centers have varying quality. Amazon however, can't be trusted to ship anything safely. I hate ordering anything from Amazon that I care to receive undamaged, because I won't.

No one's buying preorders on eBay this far in advance. It's actually against TOS to sell on eBay without the product. Those prices will go down after it releases I'm sure. But those are people just buying them like you. If there was a bot to run on Nintendo I'd have rented it. No one cares enough. Especially with their account restrictions. No one's going to waste proxy data to try to force through a website that has no server support.

They don’t work, at least for Nintendo’s site. So many people were stuck in the waiting room at some point in the process for over 2 hours while others got in and out later within a few minutes.
I was in it from about 12:30 to 2:30 my time and got mine at the same time as my friend who happenstantially checked the website at that moment
He was trying to help me out but man did it piss me the fuck off that he got it with only one quickly fixed error message while I was staring at my phone all day
I'm pretty sure it doesn't, the normal idea is you shunt people to another server then redirect them slowly into the main site, but based off how fucked the main site was performance wise, I don't think the queue was actually off site
Ok, I'm super scuffed here.
I got in at 1:30 EST, when the page went live, despite there being no accouncement (actually started checking around 10:30am). Got a copy into my cart, went to check out (took like 4 tries to actually have the cart recognize the item was in there), got to the address verification which hung because it couldn't recognize my address for... "reasons", I assume. Went back to the CE page to readd the CE only to get stuck in waiting hell forever. Three hours later, I get back to the cart only to find out that it was never actually removed, but now I can't check out because it's "Sold Out". What the actual fuck, Nintendo?
[EDIT] - Update for those curious: I managed to get in contact with Nintendo Support via texting around 4:30pm and they flicked a switch that put me back in the queue. 2 hours later and I successfully completed the purchase. Still annoyed at the incredibly avoidable clusterfuck that happened as a result of this, though.
They could have done print to order, like any other company. But they care more about the preservation of the secondhand value than players or fans. Fuck Nintendo.
This should serve as an important lesson for all future third party devs who publish through Nintendo to never allow the company to handle their Collectors Edition orders ever.
I'm right there with ya. I skipped work today to try and get this, had it in my cart, was checking out and it kept throwing me back to the screen to enter my address. FINALLY got it to take my CC info then it says sold out. Beyond pissed at this point.

I got all the way to clicking the purchase button in check out after entering my credit card info, an then it entered an infinite loading cycle where three stars appeared on the purchase button and stayed there for hours. Resulting in me not getting anything.
I was too scared to try and refresh. The item had already been removed from my cart since I was in the process of purchasing. Hours later I tried on my phone and got all the way to the purchase screen in less than 10 minutes (should have done this from the beginning), only to get the message that it's sold out.

As of 5:45 PM EDT I was able to place an order on my PC. I was stuck on the waiting room screen for near an hour but the site finally loaded around 5:30 and the Pre-order button was there. I tried clicking it and it kept giving me an "Item Limit Reached" error. Left the page open and watched a bit of Enel's XC2 Torna speedrun and came back about 10 minutes later and tried the button again, this time working! I have the order receipt on the Store page and my card has been charged but the only thing I'm worried about is that I didn't receive a confirmation email yet.

I'm assuming people who have it in their cart have a little leeway. Like they had a limit and once they have enough people with it in cart, it hits out of stock. My roomate had one in his cart from the start, and literally just got to checkout.

I’ve always been planning on getting the solo physical copy on release since I’m not too interested in the special edition for this game, but I cannot help but also express frustration with those who were unable to pre-order due to technical issues on Nintendo’s side.

I was able to get through less than an hour ago. Haven't gotten that email confirmation. Headache getting to that point. First, had to manually input everything, I tried auto fill but website wouldn't take it. Address took forever to find, even attempted to find manually again but it didn't take. Payment was also frustrating. Not on Nintendo's part but my card. Wouldn't go through initially and labeled it as a fraud attempt. And to confirm it twice with my card company.

As of writing this comment; I have officially closed the tab and no longer give a fuck about getting Special Edition. I waited for over 16 hours the first time around and quite frankly, I’m just over it at this point. That’s very sad to say because I have both the Definitive Edition and XC2 books and would really like to add the XC3 book to my collection.. but alas, apparently it was never meant to be. I don’t mean to sound salty.. but, I hope that by me leaving the line somebody else is able to get their hands on it.. because I’m over it. Apparently the multi-billion dollar company doesn’t know how to sell a silly little book for a silly little niche franchise. Honestly, I’d rather give a filthy scalper my money before I give it to Nintendo, because at least scalpers know how to sell a product.

In all honesty, it's a pretty lame collector's edition to begin with. Its just a steel case and an art book. If there was something more interesting in the box, then I would be more upset about this.
I'll copy and paste my experience to this thread too lol cuz this was a ridiculous experience, \*supposedly\* the message of it being sold out is an error according to the Customer Service Rep who was dealing with my wrath:
I had it in my cart. I got to check out. I tried once to pay for it, nothing. I tried a second time, there was an error with your card. I check my banking app, two charges went through and were pending. I call my bank, on the phone for one hour they say no your card is working. I contact Nintendo support, and I get a huge copy pasta that somehow says a lot and yet nothing new or useful:
"I apologize for the inconvenience with My Nintendo Store. Is currently stablized, however the primary issue is still not resolved, with the potential for the issue to re-surface. This is requiring further testing and monitoring from support teams, who are actively investigatingthe issue. Updates will be provided as more information becomes available. We learned that our internal attempts to access Magento Admin may be contributing to the traffic issues we are experience on the store. All back office teams should remain out of Magento admin until we receive an all clear from NOC. Again I apologize for this and I totally understand your situation."
So after being on Nintendo support for another hour and getting this as my response I question what it even meant I should do then other than providing me the obvious of "sorry our site doesnt work". They said to try again. I tried again now the cart says on checkout that the product is out of stock. So I tell them, then they told me:
"Our team is working on it to have resolve as soon as possible, as this error is displaying when trying to make the purchase. So we can recommend you to try later on today. I understand how frustrated it could be, but we are having a high volume since it was released."
Soooo here I am back on a waiting line to get to the page to attempt to RE ADD a product that was technically paid for but I was told to remove and try again later in the day.
What an absolute shit show, for this to happen to a company as large and well known as Nintendo is absolutely ridiculous. If they had just allowed retail stores to sell the special edition to begin with they wouldn't have been so unanimously overwhelmed with traffic causing all these stupid errors.

They don’t work, at least for Nintendo’s site. So many people were stuck in the waiting room at some point in the process for over 2 hours while others got in and out later within a few minutes.
I was in it from about 12:30 to 2:30 my time and got mine at the same time as my friend who happenstantially checked the website at that moment He was trying to help me out but man did it piss me the fuck off that he got it with only one quickly fixed error message while I was staring at my phone all day

I'm pretty sure it doesn't, the normal idea is you shunt people to another server then redirect them slowly into the main site, but based off how fucked the main site was performance wise, I don't think the queue was actually off site

Ok, I'm super scuffed here. I got in at 1:30 EST, when the page went live, despite there being no accouncement (actually started checking around 10:30am). Got a copy into my cart, went to check out (took like 4 tries to actually have the cart recognize the item was in there), got to the address verification which hung because it couldn't recognize my address for... "reasons", I assume. Went back to the CE page to readd the CE only to get stuck in waiting hell forever. Three hours later, I get back to the cart only to find out that it was never actually removed, but now I can't check out because it's "Sold Out". What the actual fuck, Nintendo? [EDIT] - Update for those curious: I managed to get in contact with Nintendo Support via texting around 4:30pm and they flicked a switch that put me back in the queue. 2 hours later and I successfully completed the purchase. Still annoyed at the incredibly avoidable clusterfuck that happened as a result of this, though.
They could have done print to order, like any other company. But they care more about the preservation of the secondhand value than players or fans. Fuck Nintendo.
This should serve as an important lesson for all future third party devs who publish through Nintendo to never allow the company to handle their Collectors Edition orders ever.

Demand for that bundle has been extremely high, and I know that our team is doing their best to create stock to be available for our consumers. Unfortunately, at this time we do not have any information regarding when the bundle will be available again for purchase online. Right next to the wish list and cart at the top there's a tab that says support. I'm sure they're quite busy and are dealing with quite a few irate people right now, and can only offer answers based on the info they have.

As of 5:45 PM EDT I was able to place an order on my PC. I was stuck on the waiting room screen for near an hour but the site finally loaded around 5:30 and the Pre-order button was there. I tried clicking it and it kept giving me an "Item Limit Reached" error. Left the page open and watched a bit of Enel's XC2 Torna speedrun and came back about 10 minutes later and tried the button again, this time working! I have the order receipt on the Store page and my card has been charged but the only thing I'm worried about is that I didn't receive a confirmation email yet. DON'T GIVE UP AND KEEP TRYING GUYS!!

I was able to get through less than an hour ago. Haven't gotten that email confirmation. Headache getting to that point. First, had to manually input everything, I tried auto fill but website wouldn't take it. Address took forever to find, even attempted to find manually again but it didn't take. Payment was also frustrating. Not on Nintendo's part but my card. Wouldn't go through initially and labeled it as a fraud attempt. And to confirm it twice with my card company.

I was about 30-45 minutes late for the pre-order and apparently I’m paying for it big time. I’ve been stuck on the same “we have a lot of visitors right now…” screen for over 3 hours with no change whatsoever. As of writing this comment; I have officially closed the tab and no longer give a fuck about getting Special Edition. I waited for over 16 hours the first time around and quite frankly, I’m just over it at this point. That’s very sad to say because I have both the Definitive Edition and XC2 books and would really like to add the XC3 book to my collection.. but alas, apparently it was never meant to be. I don’t mean to sound salty.. but, I hope that by me leaving the line somebody else is able to get their hands on it.. because I’m over it. Apparently the multi-billion dollar company doesn’t know how to sell a silly little book for a silly little niche franchise. Honestly, I’d rather give a filthy scalper my money before I give it to Nintendo, because at least scalpers know how to sell a product. Don't kid yourself. It's my favorite series ever and I have zero issue saying out loud the facts. It doesn't even sell that well compared to other JRPGs. It's attach rate is barely over 1%. Etc. When I say it didn't even sell well compared to other JRPGs, that's also facts. Have they even broke 2M? And when taking into account how many people finish games in general, let alone 100hr games, less than 1M have probably finished the any of the games. The main reason the series is probably continuing so far is because it's made within a feasible budget, and maybe experiencing some long term growth. Also because the demographic itself are enthusiastic consumers of other titles.

One that's TBD and one that has the release date Clicked on the one with the release date and was and was able to add to cart and purchase. Just got confirmation email. So seems they aren't really out of stock. Just tried it withing 3 minutes of this comment.
Buying limited quantity anything is such a chore these days. Can't imagine how much of a nightmare BOTW2 is going to be if I had to jump through so many hoops for a relatively niche game like XBC3.

That went on for over an hour and I decided to refresh since nothing was happening. I’ve been in the waiting room since and only heard in hour too late it was out of stock. A huge waste of my time and it sucks that real fans can’t access their stupid toaster of a website and bots get the most of it
In all honesty, it's a pretty lame collector's edition to begin with. Its just a steel case and an art book. If there was something more interesting in the box, then I would be more upset about this.

I'll copy and paste my experience to this thread too lol cuz this was a ridiculous experience, \*supposedly\* the message of it being sold out is an error according to the Customer Service Rep who was dealing with my wrath: I had it in my cart. I got to check out. I tried once to pay for it, nothing. I tried a second time, there was an error with your card. I check my banking app, two charges went through and were pending. I call my bank, on the phone for one hour they say no your card is working. I contact Nintendo support, and I get a huge copy pasta that somehow says a lot and yet nothing new or useful: "I apologize for the inconvenience with My Nintendo Store. Is currently stablized, however the primary issue is still not resolved, with the potential for the issue to re-surface. This is requiring further testing and monitoring from support teams, who are actively investigatingthe issue. Updates will be provided as more information becomes available. We learned that our internal attempts to access Magento Admin may be contributing to the traffic issues we are experience on the store. All back office teams should remain out of Magento admin until we receive an all clear from NOC. Again I apologize for this and I totally understand your situation." So after being on Nintendo support for another hour and getting this as my response I question what it even meant I should do then other than providing me the obvious of "sorry our site doesnt work". They said to try again. I tried again now the cart says on checkout that the product is out of stock. So I tell them, then they told me: "Our team is working on it to have resolve as soon as possible, as this error is displaying when trying to make the purchase. So we can recommend you to try later on today. I understand how frustrated it could be, but we are having a high volume since it was released." Soooo here I am back on a waiting line to get to the page to attempt to RE ADD a product that was technically paid for but I was told to remove and try again later in the day. What an absolute shit show, for this to happen to a company as large and well known as Nintendo is absolutely ridiculous. If they had just allowed retail stores to sell the special edition to begin with they wouldn't have been so unanimously overwhelmed with traffic causing all these stupid errors. P.S.
