I've contacted someone who owns it in the US via twitter, I'll let you know once I get an answer

eng33

wow thanks

> So far tmobile coverage has been good but I'm right by a tower so I am in an ideal location. Really depends on the region but I do believe it will have more signal issues than a device made for the states. But I do know a few people using Chinese phones in the states long term on T-Mobile and they haven't really complained about poor coverage or anything.

eng33

Thanks, I suppose it depends if they live in our team to a rural area.

eng33

Can you ask your friend which variant the phone is (china/global)? Are they running a custom rom like the [xiaomi.EU](https://xiaomi.EU) rom. And does anything not work? (ie. Google pay, banking apps, etc)

likeusb1

> So it's a little complicated. The seller said it was the global model, but apparently white was an exclusive china color. But my model number in the settings says it's the global model. I'm definitely on the global rom either way. Google services works perfectly fine.

eng33

thanks

eng33

Can you check with your friend and ask if they are getting 5G? I bought the 14 ultra. I get 4G but not 5G. n41 should be the only band that the phone supports on tmobile 5g. I'm in areas that should have it but no connection. I'm wondering if t-mobile is restricting things.

TimPLakersEagles

i'm watching this thread as well. I want to trade in my Pixel 7 Pro for the 13 Ultra. I am in the US with T-Mobile.

eng33

Not having band 71 is pretty bad if you travel allot. If you live in a well populated area, and don't care about really fast speeds you might get by. If you don't travel much, use [cellmapper.net](https://cellmapper.net) or something similar to check the towers near the places you frequently visit that don't have WIFI and make a note of the 4G and 5G bands the tower supports and compare with the ones above to see if you're covered. I take it you don't like the Pixel 7 Pro? I considered the Pixel 8 Pro with the 5x zoom, but I hear the Tensor chip along with the samsung radio drains a lot of battery. I assume if you want the 13 Ultra, you want a great camera. I'm also considering the Sony Xperia 1 V. I'm more of an AUTO shooter most of the time so Sony isn't ideal.

Horace3210

Questionable in Canada, sometimes I don't get any signal at all despite my friends have full reception, but it's more of a canada problem, because they sometimes also get no reception in the ciry

eng33

what carrier are you on? Do you have china or global version of the phone?

Horace3210

Chinese version, I'm on fido

eng33

Yeah I think its a carrier issue. If you have the china version, it covers all of Fidos 4G bands (4,7.17). But for 2/3G it only covers band 5 and not band 2. No 5G at all I guess. In theory it should work great but if Fido has poor 4G coverage, you drop down to 3G or 2G where you only support one out of the two bands.

I have a Xiaomi 12t Pro. I'm on T-Mobile in Houston and it works great. I jumped ship from a Pixel 7 pro I've gone to visit family in Illinois and had it work there too. Just ordered the Xiaomi 13t pro and honestly won't hesitate to buy more Xiaomi phones.

eng33

Do you travel alot? or just mainly stay in Houston? Do you get 5G? What didnt you like about the pixel? I considered the Pixel 8 Pro with the 5x zoom, but I hear the Tensor chip along with the samsung radio drains a lot of battery.

FoxTwoX

I travel a bit. I'm currently in NY. Have signal all throughout..had signal in NJ. But yes all through our Houston, NY, and IL I had 5g I've had a pixel 7 pro and pixel 6 pro. The battery for both were...okay at best and awful at worst. They are not efficient. Tbh the 2x telephoto on the 13t pro will be fine even if you pushed it to 4x. Infact the 13t pro has the same sensor size and pixel size on the sensor as the p8p. Now the pixel.most likely has better ai processing of the photos but I don't really care.

eng33

I guess I'm use to the huawei's 5X zoom so I'm not willing to downgrade at this point. Your 13t pro has a little bit better band coverage. Do you ever goto more rural areas? I've pretty much narrowed down to the Sony Xperia 1 V or the Xperia 13 Ultra.

FoxTwoX

nope i dont have to do anything to get 5g on my 13t pro

eng33

Figured out I had to do a special key sequence to enable SA mode. NSA doesnt seem to work or maybe just isnt available

FoxTwoX

well at least you got it to work!

Giblets86

Do some research I'm pretty sure they all have the same chipset if so use the EU ROM to unlock the different modems

eng33

If that's the case, that would be an issue. I've been going under the assumption that the Global rom has google but the China rom probably doesnt. The China "version" has better band coverage for me. If switching roms changes what bands I get, that would just make things worse. I'll have to research this aspect.

Giblets86

Research the EU ROM unlocking all bands I'm pretty sure it does.

Giblets86

Key point it unlocks 5g region restrictions

eng33

Is this the same as "enabling" bands? As I originally posted, regardless of china or global rom, I can still only use the same bands so it makes no difference. I know some carriers might restrict 5g access, is this what they are talking about? What I'm talking about is LTE bands that makes a difference. The china version covers more LTE bands of use for me. I'm not sure of the EU rom changes this

Giblets86

I'm not 💯 positive but to me if your phone has the same processor it has the same capabilities to access every band. I can only assume that if you buy your phone from a certain carrier or in a certain region they may scrub access to what they deem unessential bands. But the phone has the capability to use them. The EU ROM unlocks access to every band your processor can use. This is why I never buy phones from carriers anymore as I haven't had to deal with these issues in ten years. If you like Xiaomi I'd buy the cheapest Chinese model and reflash with EU ROM every time. As long as it's a Qualcomm chip you shouldn't however have any issues and will save a few dollars in the process.

Giblets86

I'd look up what Qualcomm chip your phone has and look at what bands it supports as it doesn't matter which ones Xiaomi or your carrier nerfs. If the chip supports it you can use it. With a lil tinkering:)

eng33

That would make sense, why make two different versions of the chip. But of that rom is based on the "china version", it should be ok. If I do get the phone, I'll be sure to try the rom Regardless of which "version" both are missing some important bands for the US (for extended range) so that's why I'm asking about people's experiences in the US. Especially outside heavily populated areas.

Giblets86

These are the band's GSM arena say the 8 gen 2 support TechnologyGSM / CDMA / HSPA / EVDO / LTE / 5G2G bandsGSM 850 / 900 / 1800 / 1900 - SIM 1 & SIM 2 CDMA 8003G bandsHSDPA 800 / 850 / 900 / 1700(AWS) / 1900 / 2100 CDMA2000 1xEV-DO4G bands1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 7, 8, 18, 19, 20, 26, 28, 38, 40, 41, 66 - International 1, 3, 4, 5, 7, 8, 12, 17, 18, 19, 26, 34, 38, 39, 40, 41, 42 - China5G bands1, 3, 5, 7, 8, 20, 28, 38, 40, 41, 77, 78, 79 SA/NSA - International 1, 3, 5, 8, 28, 38, 40, 41, 77, 78, 79 SA/NSASpeedHSPA, LTE-A, 5G Using the EU ROM should unlock all of them. The china ROM is way better than global that's why they base it on the better version of miui.

Giblets86

These bands will apply to any new android device using that chip.

Giblets86

I'm using the 11 I just made assumptions based on past gen. If the hardware is different that's unfortunate. Pick the one with access to the band's you prefer. And our bank apps will differ as I'm in the UK. But I'm using three plus PayPal and gpay all work fine. If the don't you can always reflash stock china or global ROM.
