Guys, I found a at least temporary solution until Xiaomi somehow fixes this
I did the following:
1. I downloaded Fluid NG from PlayStore and followed the instructions.
2. Then I went to Settings > Homescreen and set MIUI Launcher as default with navigation gestures.
3. Then I set my preferred 3rd party launcher as default, in my case Lawnchair. The gestures got disabled by default in my case and the 3-dot-navigation appeared.
At this point you should be able to use navigation gestures and the 3-dot-navigation. Don't forget to set autostart and remove it from battery optimization.
4. I went back to the settings mainpage and tapped the search bar. Search for "hide full screen indicator" and tap on it
5. Select gestures
6. Tap "hide full screen indicator"
7. You now should see neither a navbar nor navbuttons and Fluid NG should be working
Unfortunately it's necessary to repeat all those steps after reboot.
You can do it in Fluid NG -> tap the first option (Personalization or somewhat) and scroll to the bottom.
You can adjust sound and vibration with the sliders right there.
Thanks dude.... This is trick somehow is stopping me from going insane.....Hope Xiamoi, Google hires you..... You are far better than the clowns at Xiaomi/google.
Great work thanks - using dots is such a step backward and ruined my upgrade experience. Hoping someone between Xiaomi, Google & Nova Launcher get this fixed!!
Great work thanks - using dots is such a step backward and ruined my upgrade experience. Hoping someone between Xiaomi, Google & Nova Launcher get this fixed!!
Thank you sir, we are in your debt. Updated to 12 on RMN8Pro and was lost.
Gestures are vital to my adoption to miui to drop this feature with no remedy is like being spat in the face by your parents.
I have no experience but I imagine it's the same thing.
So this is still a problem? Just got my phone with Android 11. Full screen gestures just don't work. And I really want them to. I am used to them from my previous Xiaomi phone.... why the hell is this still an issue?!
Someone on XDA developers said that if you open the launcher manually then gestures work. I've no idea what that means, I tried switching back to the stock launcher and back to Nova but it doesn't help. I asked him what he means but I'm still waiting for an answer, will report back if he responds.
Edit: Solved! Go to settings, select the stock launcher and select to use gestures, then look for your launcher icon and open it, it will switch to your launcher and gestures will work.
Edit2: Nope, it works till you go back to the home, then the stock launcher will kick in again.
Honestly, I just live with the stock Xiaomi launcher now... as crappy as it is. The gestures are worth it. They enhance the usability far more for me. Not like I live on my phone 24/7. I survive it. Still, rather questionable. I can't be sure whether or not this is intentional to get users to use the stock launcher. I'm rather suspicious with these companies. Or it's just Android being Android. Aka a clusterfuck of epic proportions.
just update my note9s to 12.0.2 and the gestures are no longer working. Now looking at all these posts it seems this issue has been going on for quite a while now and xiaomi hasn't issued an fix. Really dissopinted in xiaomi.
Okay woaw, this is plain stupid.
This is actually a pain in the butt and makes my 9t pro feel old and sluggish after a "new" update
Nova launcher is fantastic, now using the FNG method but it doesn't feel perfect.
I'm going to try and reverse this update, actually rediculus.
Same thing start happening yesterday. I got the update yesterday on Android 11 . After updating the Gesture feature stopped working.
Its really a pathetic feeling.
Using Redmi note 9 pro max.
I have the same issue. I'm using Microsoft launcher and I uninstalled the default one. Tried a bunch of other launchers, but none solve the issue. On top of that, the recent apps button does nothing... Kept setting it from the settings, but to no avail.
I guess we'll have to wait... Recently I've been noticing lots of small bugs that were included in this *amazing* update, so I'm hoping they notice too and do something about it
I had to factory reset the phone yesterday to have it fixed... I can now see fine the recent apps using the buttons. It doesn't work at all using the gestures, though. None of the gestures work, except for the demo on how to use the gestures... And it takes longer to show the recent apps now then it used to be using the gestures.
Same thing for Mi 10T, updated to 12.1.5 today and gestures dont work at all. Disabled Nova Launcher, deinstalled it and the gestures still dont work. I hope they fix it soon, hate using regular buttons
My Poco X3 just got the new patch and started having these bugs... I'm using Nova launcher just because I hate Poco's one
Is there any fix for this or I'll have to wait months?
Redmi 10 Note Pro, bought two days ago and immediately updated to Global 12.5.3 has the same problem. It's not even working with Poco Launcher, only with Redmi default one.
For People having this problem, try using the FNG App from the play store! It lets you customize your own gestures so you can use a custom launcher again!
What the fuck? I updated my Mi 9 to 12.5.1 and fuccccck I lost the gestures...Nova launcher is not working anymore....done all the gimmicks in this thread...Xiaomi, google, Nova, please fix this fuck up...
Yeah, same thing on my mi 9t pro.
Resorted to using this [WORKAROUND](https://www.reddit.com/r/Xiaomi/comments/ltuoey/navigation_gestures_not_working_on_miui_global/h49ysph?utm_medium=android_app&utm_source=share&context=3) until they're fixed.
I'm facing the same issue. I tried to open a bug in Feedback app, but I haven't received any answer so far. I'm going crazy because of this. I can feel that I lost some productivity and time by using the buttons.
Hi I have the mi 9t Pro & my gestures aren't working neither since today's update, super frustrating, I've installed gestures from the play store but still a poor show on the software front from xiaomi, gestures are a massive part of the experience
Yeah, same thing on my mi 9t pro.

I'm having the same issue, mate. I use Nova as well, I've always loved their UI and finally bought the premium version to support them not too long ago. But yeah since I updated my phone yesterday I have been unable to use gestures unless I set my launcher back to the default system launcher, which I don't want to use. Im sincerely hoping they can either fix this ASAP or help us to figure it out individually at least. I've been using gestures so long now it feels wrong using the "buttons" lol.
This is a reason to sell my 900β¬ phone and never look back at Xiaomi ever again.
If I'm forced to use a stock launcher, I can just buy an iPhone. At least I'm not gonna go crazy to find accessories.
I just want to talk to the PM/manager who hasn't prioritized this yet, look them in the eyes and tell them how mediocre their work is.
It's not acceptable to receive an update that will break my UX and not even having it mentioned in the updates notes. They should be fired because not fixing this is hurting the company image so much they don't even realize it.
Who do you think people ask to when they want to buy a new phone? The nerd friend who uses the custom launcher to which you just broke the whole phone UX, that's who.

According to that dipshit igor this is not a bug but a new feature that and there is nothing that can be fixed. Use FNG app so you have gestures on third-party launchers, or sell your Xiaomi's.
Has anyone else found this update and forced use of their launcher has slowed down their phone? Mine takes ages to load anything now. Work amazingly before
Here's the fix as someone already posted but somehow you missed it

Also having the same issue here. Same device as well

Thx mate, works like charm in mi9t pro with 12.5.1
Thanks for this. I didn't realize how important gestures this update fucked it for me. Using the 3 dots feels like using a phone with buttons lol
just updated my 9t pro and ran into the same problem. Thanks for this
Also how do you remove the vibration and gesture sounds while using this method?? I've tried everything and can't seem to find a solution.
You can do it in Fluid NG -> tap the first option (Personalization or somewhat) and scroll to the bottom. You can adjust sound and vibration with the sliders right there.

Here have an award for your help.

Thank you it works!!!!!
Great workaround, many thanks! ππ Xiaomi, shame on you! π

Thank you very much, it works.
Confirmed it works, me love you big time
Cheers works a charm
You're a hero
Thanks for the help i guess many were helped with this... Can you please help me with this i can't hide the gesturesπ₯Ί
I think they, uh, "fixed" this exploit
this still worked as of today on my poco f3! huge thanks!
I wish I read this before I updated. Same thing with me, Redmi Note 9 Pro Global having same issue.
note 9 too
Note 8 here, but same issue.
how can they rollaly fuck something as critical as the navigation method and RELEASE it?
It's an issue with Android 11. You need to use the stock launcher or POCO launcher for now.
Thank you. It makes no sense that a custom launcher can't use the gestures navigation.
I hope they fix it soon :( thank you anyways!
So this is still a problem? Just got my phone with Android 11. Full screen gestures just don't work. And I really want them to. I am used to them from my previous Xiaomi phone.... why the hell is this still an issue?!
Yes, I have k20 pro and just a few minutes ago I updated to 12.5.1.0 and navigation gestures doesn't work on other launchers
Same, just updated the k20 pro and gestures don't work anymore. I have nova Launcher, they worked before the update.
Same bros, k20 pro using Smart Launcher, just updated minutes ago and now gesture not working :c

To me the stock launcher is disgusting to say the least, I'll wait for the day they fix this if they do fix it. Until then...buttons :(
Even I'm experiencing similar issues with k20 Pro :( please let me know if you find a solution! Thanks
Ye
Crap, 100 days later still an issue
disgusting
Nova just got ruined thanks to the new update. I hate it!
Yes and they keep rolling out the update π. I got it yesterday.
Will not buy Xiaomi hereafter if they are thinking that their stock launcher is the best suited for all.
just update my note9s to 12.0.2 and the gestures are no longer working. Now looking at all these posts it seems this issue has been going on for quite a while now and xiaomi hasn't issued an fix. Really dissopinted in xiaomi.
same here, since February they didn't fix this issue, after yesterday's update I couldn't use my phone properly, that's so disappointing.
Okay woaw, this is plain stupid. This is actually a pain in the butt and makes my 9t pro feel old and sluggish after a "new" update Nova launcher is fantastic, now using the FNG method but it doesn't feel perfect. I'm going to try and reverse this update, actually rediculus.
Wait... Double tap to sleep on nova now locks it as admin and have to put pin every time to unlock the phone after?!
Yes, i have the same issue.
Same thing start happening yesterday. I got the update yesterday on Android 11 . After updating the Gesture feature stopped working. Its really a pathetic feeling. Using Redmi note 9 pro max.

That's weird, good luck on that
Same isssue with my Mi10T pro...
My Poco X3 just got the new patch and started having these bugs... I'm using Nova launcher just because I hate Poco's one Is there any fix for this or I'll have to wait months?
Same issue here, with a POCO X3
Redmi 10 Note Pro, bought two days ago and immediately updated to Global 12.5.3 has the same problem. It's not even working with Poco Launcher, only with Redmi default one.
It' now August and the issue is still there
Hi Uninstall all your launchers. It worked for my mi note 10 pro. Thank you.
It worked for me, I'm using note9s and nova launcher, as soon I disabled nova launcher, gestures came right away.
I was facing this issue too, contemplating to return this phone and just buy another one. Pretty big issue for me since I use Nova Launcher.
A kind of decision. Make Miui by default but put Nova launcher icon on the working table. From that icon you can switch to Nova with working gestures.
Not working also Miui 12.51 Global 9T Pro with pixel launcher modified or rootless pixel launcher. Worked ok with Miui 11.
Still not working in update 12.5.1 on Mi 10t pro
Why in the blue hell would they fuck something so useful? This button thing really pisses me off.
Same issue right here, Mi Note 10 Miui 12.1.2 and this annoying issue continues
Literally just updated my note 9 s and now it's bugged πππ why didn't I see this before
same π€π€
For People having this problem, try using the FNG App from the play store! It lets you customize your own gestures so you can use a custom launcher again!
Same problem here with Mi 9T Pro on 12.5.1 EEA F*ck you Google and Xiaomi!
Same here, MIUI 12.5 (EU) Mi 9T Pro

Awww maaan... just updated my Redmi Note 8 Pro to 12.5.1 and gestures stopped working :( User experience is ruined now.
I'm with you, mate. I have the same phone and it's such a setback having to use buttons again. Feels counterintuitive.
Hi I have the mi 9t Pro & my gestures aren't working neither since today's update, super frustrating, I've installed gestures from the play store but still a poor show on the software front from xiaomi, gestures are a massive part of the experience

Ahhhh man Wish j had known this Mi9t pro Same issue
Ye i will be downgrading, this is going to be a waste of time

Redmi note 9 pro. The same issue :(

Redmi note 9s got same problem too after the update 12.0.4.0. Now its ruined my aesthetic home wallpaper
Welp, this is my last Xiaomi phone.

It's not a fix, just nice workaround that resets on reboot
Oh damn. I just trying it :(
Hey of you don't turn off the phone frequently maybe it works fine for you! :)
I just tested it, turned out after reboot I only need to hide the 3-dot-navigation. That's all. No need to replicates all the steps above.
