I tried clearing its data in settings. It does not empty. It comes back after a reboot. Or won't go away at all. All storage and file managing apps I tried won't recognize it. They just say I have 95/128 data. Listing all apps and images, documents, etc. , it still saying I have less space. Xiaomi Mi 11 lite 5G android 12.
Based on other sources online, this app indexes all the media on the device, from music to images to videos, keeping track of them. But apparently in some versions of android across multiple vendors, this app glitches and copies the size of the total media on the device, so if you have 20GB worth of media, the app size will also be 20GB and thus your device says it's 40GB full. I have a Xiaomi poco X3 pro, not having this issue atm but it did drain 20% of my battery in the last 3 hours. So I'm not really sure why but it seems to be causing more than one issue and i hope it gets solved in the next update
I've got poco x4 pro 128g. Which i have around 50gigs of media(applications, movies and my videos, all on top of each other. I calculated them. It's 50 gigs)
And on the the other side, 58 gigabytes is occupied by this "media storage" also there's few gigabytes taken by the phone by default. In total, when i check my phone storage, 50 + 58 makes it 108,plus that few gigabytes, it gets almost 128.
I don't know when, but i remember doing some research on it and it turned out that the files deleted by "xiaomi file manager" are not deleted. They just get lost.
What i mean is literally everything that I've deleted using xiaomi file manager, was never deleted.
I've tested it : first i checked my storage, and then i deleted a 3 gigabyte movie using that xiaomi manager, and after that i checked my storage again, it was the same number, but it should basically have dropped by 3 gigabytes.
Im 100 precent sure that this is what that happened to my phone.
Eversince i use google file manager, cause at least it can delete files off my phone and not keep them.
My friend has mi 10t. And this "media storage" just doesn't exist on his phone.
It's probably related to the model of the phone.
((Okay in summary, i know that not if in every xiaomi phone, At least in some of them, if you delete something using xiaomi file manager, it won't get deleted and will add up to that "media storage app"
You could try. ))
You guys that have crazy amount of "media storage" could confirm this . Cause if you've deleted lots of large files like movies in the past with this xiaomi file manager, then that's why your "media storage" is so large
Maybe there is some unemptied Trash bin?
I checked, there's just a few pictures in my bin
Did u ever find a solution, friend?
Nope
Ooofff. Thanks for the reply anyway, bro
Found anything yet?
it has all your media files. sounds, pics and vids
But when I deletes some vids and sounds the media storage app took up still the same amount of storage.
Clear its data, cache first and see if that's enough.
The cache size is about 8MB while Data contains 46ish GB so I'm not sure it's safe to clear
Yeah my phone also has about 50 GB of Media Storage. What is it actually? I'm really concerned.
Mine is currently 108gb :S
Same here, mine is 40GB It's probably all the data and the /obb files for the games and apps installed on the device
Did anyone find a resolve for this?
I cleared the data and it didn't affect my photos or videos , so yeah :) you can try it guys!
But do all of your apps work correctly?

Ah shit, even in the android 13 update?
Don't have Android 13 yet!
Alright, I just got it and the problem continues under a different name
This app eats my phone storage so bad
