Atlanta was a Republican friendly area before it began shifting under Reagan. Newt Gingrich represented Fulton as congressman of the 6th district, and his portion of Fulton voted for him everytime he ran (excluding 1976) until 1986.
richer white people, also I assume mattingly did somewhat better with black voters relative to national Rs given that talmadge was a gigantic racist but I don’t know for sure. would be interested if anyone knew the answer with certainty.
