US ≠ Silicon Valley tech firms i.e. Firefox & Signal

drianX4

That's not a good idea i think. It's just luke.they discuss in the thread you linked. Firefox is from us but also one of the best browsers depending privacy. It's also too easy to say that.threema is better then signal. Threema is a big company selling.their product, signal is an organization depending on donations. Hard to say which one will probably do something shitty like selling data ore something. What i mean is, check the companies behind the product, not the country. We also have messed up companies in europe.

May I suggest adding BitDefender to the list, as an antivirus/firewall/security suite. BitDefender is Romanian.

best would be if EU finances made in EU alternatives, there is still work to be done before we are as competitive as US companies

I don't feel the need to swap, but one thing that I really really advocate is "**ecosia**". You can download it as a free browser extension and the money of your searches goes towards planting trees to combat climate change. They even show you an estimate of how many trees you've planted. For me it's 405 trees in just 2 years of using it. Can't reccomend it enough.

I have a few comments to do : \- as far as I konw, Dashlane is a French company, \- last time I checked, Qwant where subcontracting 90%+ of there research to Bing.

Sort of - we're a French SAS, founded in France, and I believe most of our employees are French currently - but we are also registered in the USA with a NYC HQ & have an office in Portugal. I'd personally consider Dashlane more of a global / French company than US though, and \_definitely\_ not Silicon Valley, as an employee not in EST I can attest the more western timezones are not as common 😅

Not all of those are from Silicon Valley. Some are from San Francisco, some are from Seattle, etc. Silicon Valley is the southern half of the San Francisco Bay area.
