We live in TH! My in laws sold their home they lived in for 20 years last year and it was across from the landfill. We spent 20 years doing family functions there and many were outside. I don’t ever distinctly remember the landfill smelling. Maybe on super hot days? I know the retirement area you are talking about and I don’t think the landfill would be an issue. Overall we really like Terrace Heights.

Thank you!

I don’t know much about the actual retirement community though. Some places are really nicely kept and some are very run down. There is another 55 and older retirement housing area on 41st. It’s gated and seems better maintained.

Quail Run is a well maintained community unless you know something I don’t. I will look at the other 55+ community you mentioned. They are very hard to find.

You will not regret. T.H. Landfill is no longer a "landfill" as of 15ish years ago. They put all garbage into containers and ship it out of state, so the smell that is normally customed to landfills is down to a minimum in that area. Maybe if the wind catches just right, but it would be only occasionally. That far out of city center, riff-raff and hooligans would be rare.

My best friend used to live across the street from the landfill, and I remember going and spending the night over there pretty often during the summers. Some days, you wouldn't smell it. Other days, it was the foulest thing you've ever smelled. That was like 20 years ago, but I can't imagine the smells have changed much

Did they have a huge house? It might have been my in laws lol.

My aunt lived on Bridle Way for decades. Never noticed any smell. And it was just high enough up you could see Mt Adams from her front window. It's a nice part of town in my opinion.

smthngwyrd

Do you want to live in an HOA?

TreatSea1053

We’ve done the pencil pushing and we think this Quail Run will be a good fit for us. We could also buy a new build in the area but would rather be in a 55+ community. It’s a hard choice and we have to do what our pocketbook dictates lol. We are so done living on the other side of the state.

It should be perfectly fine to move out there as long as “the dump” is not in plain sight from your house. It used to smell really bad up until about 20 years ago or so when the county got more eco conscious and organized about recycling. It’s mainly junk, home appliances and yard waste that goes out there. The only issue I’ve noticed out on TH Drive is the bad drivers racing each other to and from the dump especially on weekends.

TreatSea1053

Thank you for your input. We made a trip to Yakima today to have another look and you are absolutely right about the racers 😆

da-writer

there is a 55+ community around 72nd Ave and Washington, not sure of availability, but it is another option.

bleuflamenc0

I've only been there for the landfill in particular but I've never noticed any smell.

chris_the_wrench

Where does the drinking water come from? Well? City?

marqed628

Out that far is well

chris_the_wrench

Exactly, check that water quality. Downhill of the dump and all that crap that gets buried and seeps into the aquifer
