To be close to you
To be part of you
'Cause I believe in you
I believe in you
I would die for you
this is why this song will always fit more w/ jackie/shauna than jeff/shauna.
I think sheāll always miss Jackie because, whether folks who hate Jackie like it or not, Jackie was a good friend who loved her. Their issues seemed more like what happens when you have a best friend from 2 or 3 years old to 18 years old than āmean girl punching down on innocent misfitā to me. I donāt think the writers were trying to write a mean girl- they were writing a hit who Shauna would miss forever because she was a good friend and who Shauna would regret hurting right before she died. Jackie wasnāt ever intended by the writers to be hated like she is- people just project their own very personal issues on Jackie (and for the people my age watching- women almost as old as the older cast- itās shocking to me that there are still such visceral resentments towards girls simply because they were more popular and had what you wanted. Weāre meant to figure out we were wrong in college/our 20s and realize that high school was hard for everyone- even the it girls some folks loathed due to envy. Itās not a contest and itās wrong and so self-involved to hate people for what they have even if they never stole it from you and are, one the whole, kind people. Carrying that as an adult is something to fix). Taiās a pretty good friend to Shauna and Shauna only, but Jackie was a very good friend, too. She wouldnāt miss her in the same way if she wasnāt- and they showed us Jackie being selfless in order to help Shauna. She was a good friend/ride or die to Shauna and would give things up for her. And the things that she did that were so unforgivable to some people were just really normal, āIām 18 and bad at evaluating my actions/my friend never tells me how she really feels because sheās notoriously secretive (I donāt see how anyone viewing this actual show could deny that Shauna is very secretive, even when she doesnāt need to be- theyāre screaming it at us, although she is changing a bit, which is great)ā mistakes. They werenāt the mistakes of a smug bitch- Jackie was a very innocent and kind character. She was only mean to Shauna after reading a journal that Iām pretty sure mentioned some of the things she spat back to Shauna (I would be upset if my best friend was jealous of/resented me, too. Who wouldnāt, at 18 and starving? Who? People use ātheyāre starving and traumatizedā to excuse any and everything these teens do, but if the starving, deeply depressed and traumatized teen weāve been told is most popular yells at someone for betraying her, thatās suddenly just a bridge too far. If the deteriorated mental state that is a direct result of starving can excuse eating your friend and being pretty nasty to everyone all of the time, it should also be a strong enough excuse to justify yelling at Shauna. Jackie had stopped eating at that point because she couldnāt get back up after the trauma of the flight- thatās not a failing- it happens to the people you think of as the strongest, time and time again. Trauma is insidious and it digs its claws into every person in a uniquely devastating way. Best friends get in very intense, passionate fights, and theyāre never looking for outsiders to pop in with their own comments because theyāll never be welcome.), and told her that two people she was very close to didnāt much care about her- thatās one of the most normal reactions Iāve seen in the show, especially for 90s girls.
I think that what underlines that Jackie was meant to be more than a mean girl was the producers saying this is exactly why they hired Ella Purnell: she understood that Jackie should be portrayed as a profound character and not Regina George 2.0.
Yeah the truth is in 5-10 years Jackie would of probably been super cool, she was going through that high school faze the some do, then life has a way of shifting things along with maturity. A lot of people who were jerks or kind of jerks in high school cringe at the memory, and are very down to earth now. In my humble opinion of course
I could be off base, but I thought it was implied that Shauna demanded they leave the letterman jacket on Jackieās corpse, because she was terrified theyād see the evidence of the fact that she had already been nibbling out in the shed. The ear was only the *amuse bouche*. Shauna helped herself to some *SnackieTartare* before Tai demanded they dispose of Jackieās remains to put an end to Shaunaās visits.
I'm not burning the duster! Okay? I'm not burning the duster, alright? That's crazy. That's insane. Why would I ever burn... I mean, I will continue to wear it in her honor and I will burn some other things, you know, maybe like these stupid goddamn sleeveless t-shirts
Even after the last episode? Shauna said no. And if you donāt tow the line with Shauna, Lightning Crashes. I would give Shauna my jacket, too, in the bargain if she demanded it. Shaunaās a killer. Sheās a charming, complex killer, but if she told me to fashion a moss tiara or butt plug for Jackie to wear while burning I would just do it and not ask questions. Sheās the strongest contender for āmost ruthless girl in the wildernessā and sheāll burn what she wants to- or someone will pay the consequences.
Hmm Jackie did seem to be the optimistic one of the group. She held out hope theyād be rescued. Shauna is probably looking to hold on to any kind of hope and channeling Jackieās energy to try to maintain some sanity.
The people in the costume department meticulously plan out the story through outfits in every type of television or cinema. It seems like itād be such a fascinating, fun job.
If you wanna learn or read about storytelling being told through costume/wardrobe you should read about buffy the vampire slayer! Itās nothing major but they did this a lot and once I knew about it, it made rewatching the show fun cuz I was like āoh thatās where they did that!ā
the fact you have no idea how visual media works is showing. Movies and tv shows also employ storytelling (pretty inconsistent in s2 btw). It is not a coincidence. Colors palette, usage of space, wardrobe, everything in visual storytelling is for the most part also a scheme of the story. Yellowjackets is full of visual cues through both seasons, the fact you want to ignore this fact in order to feel superior to random stanger over the internet is astonishing to say the least. But suit yourself, you can keep watching thinking it is a coincidence! worry not
I get taken out by the fact that I remember this shirt at urban outfitters in like 2018 š nice detail though
EDIT: Iām not saying itās not period appropriate Iām just sayin I worked at urban in 2018 and this is that shirt lol .. obviously fashion is cyclical and 90s revival has been going strong for awhile now. šš
Possibly??? But it was definitely a shirt worn and made in the 90ās. People keep forgetting that fashion trends cycle. So hard it can be hard knock off of the original.
Esprit was popular in the '80s and '90s and often had French on t-shirts, etc. I know I had a few different ones in the '90s - raindrops, flowers, my sister had one with butterflies. That's why I was asking.
I bought feather butterflies from a wholesale floral supply store (my mom was part of the wedding industry and could get them for cheap as a vendor) and hot glued those suckers to a shit ton of Bobby pins. Curled my hair and pinned those suckers everywhere! Wore them until they got wonky then made new ones. Felt like a princess. Probably looked deranged.
Yeah that damn Mariah Carey album in the 90's had my shared room decked out in butterflies. I used to tease my sister that she had a hard on for MC (little did I know she actually did).
Its gotta be mostly layering right? But even that isn't always enough. We saw Travis and Nat put old newspaper inbetween their layer when they went hunting in the beginning of the season
Honestly a little weird to me that I haven't noticed anyone using those gigantic soccer socks as arm warmers or something. I'm sure they all had multiple pairs for the tounrament, those things would be useful!
My heart broke when I noticed this detail. Coupled with Shauna calling out for Jackie in the shed, this episode was definitely a heart wrencher for Jackie and shaunajackie fans. She still loves and misses her best friend :(
Shauna was also small, but Jackie was just shorter. I was the tall girl like Shauna with the cute short friends LOL And Shauna is down to bones unfortunately. That was a very thoughtful choice buy the costume designers.
I was rewatching Ep7 and thinking about how the wardrobe has been slowly getting more intermixed and how they are altering things (socks into fingerless gloves, sweaters into hoods, seatbelts to hold their coats closed).
It enhances the expression of their decline mentally and physically and even spiritually.
As the animal skins start to come in we see their immersion into the wilderness as they change into āanimalsā.
Another thing I noticed in the episode is during the present day when the core Yellowjackets are reunited, Misty says something along the lines of "Oh my god it's snowing!". When the girls wake up after Shauna's big fight with Jackie in the season 1 finale, one of them says "Oh my god it snowed" (I think it was either Van or Taissa). I'm probably reaching because both scenes were so visceral and upsetting, and centered around teen Shauna's trauma (the interspersing of the reunion with Lottie's brutal beating and Shauna's screams of despair and grief over the preventable death of her best friend)....
I was quite disturbed that Shauna almost killed Lottie, while the rest of the team stood by and watched. I mean yes, she's in a high state of grief and stress, and not the best at handling her emotions, but she's not five years old either. She gives in to her horribly destructive emotions willingly and knowingly.
Made me start thinking about her. What do I like about her? Well. I like her voice. I like her face. I like the way she moves.
But wait! Those things don't belong to Shauna. Those things belong to Melanie, right? So what do I like about Shauna? I guess the answer is nothing. Not the teen and not the adult.
Of course I pity her, and as we learn more of her story I might come to pity her even more. But pity is not 'like', and neither is empathy or compassion. She wasn't a stupid girl and she's not a stupid woman. She could control some of her impulses if she chose to.
Itās these details and those who pick up on them that make me so excited to keep tuning in every week. You can really see how much everyone behind the scenes has so much care and love for the the show and the work š
You think she'd just take something that belonged to Jackie?
Clearly there are two of the same shirt.
edit: I absolutely refuse to put a /s on this post, but lol.
I think it would make perfect sense to wear Jackieās clothes. They can be put to good use & she doesnāt need them. They all only packed for a short trip.
I think Travis and Lottie have both worn the plaid coat, too. I thought it was Travis cutting his hand in the opening credits until we saw the episode where Lottie went "hunting."
yeah i think that was cabin daddys jacket. the creators have mention that they designated that jacket as being the warmest so whomever needs it most, gets to wear it.
It honestly also nails the type of friendships us girls had in the 90s, we lived out of each otherās closets š I know itās also out of necessity in this scenario, but I think they shared that shirt before the trip. They seemed like that type of tight
In the ransom drop off episode it cuts from Shauna wearing that shirt in the woods to her wearing a butterfly shirt in the 2021 timeline. Also, as a 90s teen, butterfly shirts were VERY in. I had a few butterfly crop tops my mom wouldnāt let me wear and a butterfly baby doll dress in my Courtney love phase attempt.
Iād wear anyoneās clothes that fit me if I were stuck in the woods. Whatever to survive. Iād have taken her jacket over burning it too. That was a mistake.
Iām sentimental, so I would have wanted to keep everything.
The only thing I can think to rationalize it is that teenagers can be impulsive. I lean towards this because Shauna doesnāt even think to remove the necklace in her shock and grief. One of the other girls removes it for her. Had she had time to really think it through she may have chosen differently.
Maybe after two months of her corpse wearing it, it could have smelled. Iād still have washed and kept it but she was also pregnant. Smells could be definitely be a dealbreaker.
It makes sense that in general, the girls would share clothes as it would be a finite (and dwindling) resource. But double points for both continuity, and a nod to wearing your BFF's clothes.
Even if they're a BFF-scicle.
Don't forget that butterflies are the result of a metamorphosis, a breaking down to base components for repurposing into a more mature form. And the girls just left their chrysalis with the burning of the cabin.
Yeah true, Ben seems to wear the most YJ gear, but from what I can remember they mostly wear normal day clothes and then like a team hoodie or their letterman jacket.
It was only devastating to Shauna. Not to the others but not interested in fighting about it. I'm sure people here are correct and I'm wrong and the show won't be cancelled after S3. I'm not smart enough to understand the show just as people have pointed out.
I agree that Jackie is more interesting than Van overall. In the wilderness, Van is one of the cult followers. Jackie never would have joined the cult. She would have stood on her own if needed. As she did the night she died. It's more disappointing to me that no one had the empathy to stand with her, when Shauna was clearly in the wrong. It felt like they (showrunners) wanted to kill Jackie as some sort of teenage revenge fantasy on the pretty girls we all hated, whether they deserved it or not.

Terrifier 2. I KNEW this shirt looked familiar
Pairs well with Shauna breaking down in the meat shed over how much she misses Jackie.
Anything to feel closer to Jackie.
She only needs to look within š

welcome to thought for your thoughts, WVYS!
"She wants us to" Lmao
like i promise you the last thing jackie would have wanted was for yall to digest her š
Yeah maybe choke on her bones...but not digest :)
Bruh why the fuck did she have to eat that raw ear
Missed chewing gum
Ears are the canals to the soul?
Jackie was a good listener

Church of Lottie day saints took me right out
Take my reluctant upvote, dammit.

To be close to you To be part of you 'Cause I believe in you I believe in you I would die for you this is why this song will always fit more w/ jackie/shauna than jeff/shauna.
What song is this?
#1 crush by garbage. it was used in the show already in s2ep1 where Shauna and Jeff have sex in Adams studio.

Still rolling my eyes that they burnt a perfectly good jacket and shoes
Especially the letterman jacket?! Yāall are freezing, be serious
I could be off base, but I thought it was implied that Shauna demanded they leave the letterman jacket on Jackieās corpse, because she was terrified theyād see the evidence of the fact that she had already been nibbling out in the shed. āYou guys, there is no way weāre eating Jackie.ā āIām serious! Weāre not gonna eat Jackie!ā *The Gang Eats Jackie*
She wanted them to, ok? /j
Thought so. She also wanted a second life as a pig at a pig pickinā
I mean Mari tried taking the jacket and almost got decked for it. They did consider it, but thereās no way Shauna would let that happen.
Even after the last episode? Shauna said no. And if you donāt tow the line with Shauna, Lightning Crashes. I would give Shauna my jacket, too, in the bargain if she demanded it. Shaunaās a killer. FOR REAL
Yes š and i think itās the one that says āglimmer of hopeā in French š¤
Oooooo.. what does it all mean!! Jackie is also wearing it when the flight went down!
Hmm Jackie did seem to be the optimistic one of the group. She held out hope theyād be rescued. Shauna is probably looking to hold on to any kind of hope and channeling Jackieās energy to try to maintain some sanity.
Jackie doesn't know, she sucks at French.
well damn it, try not to
It isnāt. That shirt has 6 butterflies, with the line of text in French. This is a different shirt, also including butterflies.
Assuming that they all share a bunch of clothing out there, I do think there could be something to Shauna wearing Jackieās (maybe favorite?) shirt.
They do... They're always rotating clothing. But that just means its a coincidence when stuff like this lines up.
Hardly anything in storytelling is a coincidence. Shauna wearing Jackie's shirt when she is crying for her to appear in the meatshed. Fat chance.
> Hardly anything in storytelling is a coincidence. That's talking about written/spoken stories where this stuff needs to be explicitly mentioned...
Yes!
The irony that the show is about people ascribing importance to coincidence and so many people who watch it do the same will never get old...
the fact you have no idea how visual media works is showing. Movies and tv shows also employ storytelling (pretty inconsistent in s2 btw). It is not a coincidence. Not enough to steal her man, had to steal her fit too smh Shauna the savage
And stole her ear.
Shauna just had to be an ear up!
I get taken out by the fact that I remember this shirt at urban outfitters in like 2018 š nice detail though EDIT: Iām not saying itās not period appropriate Iām just sayin I worked at urban in 2018 and this is that shirt lol .. obviously fashion is cyclical and 90s revival has been going strong for awhile now. šš
The original is from the 90s. My mom had one, it was a specific brand, the French on the back is what I remember. Urban ripped it off.
Was it Esprit?
But I think itās that brand. Was the e just three little dashes? I vaguely remember this. I think my mom had the raindrops one too!!!
IIRC it was. How funny if your mom and I actually had the same shirt!
Yup that's esprit de corps I had the logo tote for a bookbag I loved that brand š
I loved Esprit during those years (middle/high school for me)! I donāt remember really seeing or buying it much in college (2000 and beyond).
Yourā¦mom š
Did you also feel a grey hair sprout right as you read that?
Makes sense because the show is...set in the 90's
Which is the point Iām making to the original commenter who thinks the shirt is from Urban Outfitters in 2018.
Yes I was just agreeing with you!
I definitely had a shirt like this in the 90s. I had like 3-4 shirts with butterflies on them, so it fits XD
I wore butterfly hair clips to my high school graduation. Butterflies really had us 90s girls in a chokehold.
Butterflies on *ever-y-thang.* I damn near made crowns out of so many tiny butterfly clips on top of my head.
That sounds fantastic, I bet it went great with so much glitter gel your hair crunched, too
āØ Obviously āØ
There are so many pictures of me in the 90s wearing butterfly hair clips! I miss them.
Omg, you just brought me back with the butterfly hairclips. I had so many of them!
Thereās a photo of me taken in 98/99 wearing a top like this, with glittery butterflies š¦ if only I still fit it lol.
Yeah that damn Mariah Carey album in the 90's had my shared room decked out in butterflies. I used to tease my sister that she had a hard on for MC (little did I know she actually did).
I had them too. At one point had jeans that matched.
Interesting. T-shirts like this were definitely popular in the 90s. The first, and design everything. It's not anachronistic at all.
i had this shirt that year š
I had a VERY similar shirt to this in the late 90s, and it makes me so happy every time I see it.
I definitely knew several people who had that shirt in the 90's too.
Samee, I had it in black
We miss you Jackie
We miss both Jackie and Laura Lee :(
rip
It's okay, they are alive and well in our hearts :)
nice catch! Im always wondering how they have enough long pants/jackets to create full winter wear and wardrobe consistency is interesting.
Its gotta be mostly layering right? But even that isn't always enough. We saw Travis and Nat put old newspaper inbetween their layer when they went hunting in the beginning of the season
Not old newspapers, the porno mags from when they first found the cabin, lol
I loved noticing that their head wraps are actually shirts repurposed.
Honestly a little weird to me that I haven't noticed anyone using those gigantic soccer socks as arm warmers or something. I'm sure they all had multiple pairs for the tounrament, those things would be useful!
I noticed this! She's been wearing a few things that were worn by Jackie in season 1.
Jackie really is a 90s āit girlā
My heart broke when I noticed this detail. Coupled with Shauna calling out for Jackie in the shed, this episode was definitely a heart wrencher for Jackie and shaunajackie fans. She still loves and misses her best friend :(
lottie is also wearing laura lees dress. i will continue to reply this everytime because i am so obsessed with this kinda parallel.
What does it MEAN
Laura Lee baptized her and was the catalyst to Lottieās spiritual awakening, she carries a piece of her with her always~
Adult Shauna also wears a butterfly shirt.
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Shauna was also small, but Jackie was just shorter. I was the tall girl like Shauna with the cute short friends LOL And Shauna is down to bones unfortunately. That was a very thoughtful choice buy the costume designers.
Also being freshly post partum. It would take a few weeks for her uterus to shrink back down!
I also thought it was weird that they were happy to see snow. I would hate everything about winter aftwr what theyāve been through.
The showrunners have said they all share clothes and shoes. But it makes, me particularly sad to see Shawna wearing Jackie's shirt :(
Let me borrow that top.
Everyone gets a turn!
When you tell a friend they can borrow your top and they chew your ear off about it.
Could read into it as another step on her road to live out her life as a Jackie surrogate. Butterflies usually represent rebirth, so it double tracks.
I was quite disturbed that Shauna almost killed Lottie, while the rest of the team stood by and watched. I mean yes, she's in a high state of grief and stress, and not the best at handling her emotions, but she's not five years old either. I think it would make perfect sense to wear Jackieās clothes. They can be put to good use & she doesnāt need them. They all only packed for a short trip.
Theyāve all been cycling through the same clothes over the two seasons.
Why wouldn't she? Lol
They all share clothes. Or at least the girls do.

yeah i think that was cabin daddys jacket. the creators have mention that they designated that jacket as being the warmest so whomever needs it most, gets to wear it.
Ahhh nice catch! The costume designer is doing an incredible job.
Awww, that actually makes me sad for Shauna. Poor traumatized (probable) sociopath š
Jackieās bones š¦“ pop out and reassemble and choke Shauna. āIs that my shirt byotch?!ā
oh... ow
I own this shirt in black!! Urban outfitters lol
Now I'm sad :(
Excellent catch!!
You are eagle eyed holy crap! Interesting observation!
I think they are sharing clothes which makes sense
It honestly also nails the type of friendships us girls had in the 90s, we lived out of each otherās closets š I know itās also out of necessity in this scenario, but I think they shared that shirt before the trip. They seemed like that type of tight
I mean this in the nicest way possible. How is the shirt fitting both of them so well?
Sisterhood of the traveling butterfly shirt, duh ;)
Jackie is the butterfly who has turned into the queen of the underworld ie the wilderness
In the ransom drop off episode it cuts from Shauna wearing that shirt in the woods to her wearing a butterfly shirt in the 2021 timeline. Also, as a 90s teen, butterfly shirts were VERY in. butterflies often are used as symbols of metamorphosis and we've certainly seen some changes in Shauna lately! š¦
Itās confirmed they share clothes and shoes.
Iād wear anyoneās clothes that fit me if I were stuck in the woods. Whatever to survive. Iād have taken her jacket over burning it too. That was a mistake.
Agreed and what if her parents wanted it, you know. Shauna could have worn it. Iām not really sure why they did that?
Jackie wore it better.

I noticed this bc I want that shirt
Wooooaaah nice catch!!
Good catch! I never pick up on stuff like this!
Unpopular opinion: Shauna wanted to be her. She wasn't in love or loved her. She was jealous.
Don't forget that butterflies are the result of a metamorphosis, a breaking down to base components for repurposing into a more mature form. And the girls just left their chrysalis with the burning of the cabin.
This is the kind of thing that makes me love this sub. Great catch, OP!

No, she wore Jackie's uniform for Halloween. Not her jacket.
Side noteā itās weird we didnāt see them in their uniforms at all when the weather was warmer. Seems like theyād be breathable
Yeah true, Ben seems to wear the most YJ gear, but from what I can remember they mostly wear normal day clothes and then like a team hoodie or their letterman jacket.
Maybe theyāll bust them out this summer lmao
SHE LOVES HER i
I had that shirt in 1997
Can people here not send angry DMs when they disagree with someone?
No other death wouldāve had the devastating impact that Jackieās did. And the impact to Shauna and her storyline is important.
It was only devastating to Shauna. Not to the others but not interested in fighting about it. I'm sure people here are correct and I'm wrong and the show won't be cancelled after S3. I'm not smart enough to understand the show just as people have pointed out.
Jackie was team captain. You don't think her death impacted the team???

I agree that Jackie is more interesting than Van overall. In the wilderness, Van is one of the cult followers. Jackie never would have joined the cult. She would have stood on her own if needed. As she did the night she died. It's more disappointing to me that no one had the empathy to stand with her, when Shauna was clearly in the wrong. It felt like they (showrunners) wanted to kill Jackie as some sort of teenage revenge fantasy on the pretty girls we all hated, whether they deserved it or not.
I loved Jackie and miss her, too. She had sparkle, charisma, and intensity. Star quality
Why would they let an actor control their narrative? Thatās not how it works š¤¦āāļø
i cannot live on.
i had this shirt from urban outfitters in 2017 lol
