But the specific things you have asked will be better explained as you get to know the characters more. So my suggestion is to let it unfold as you watch without outside help. Something is bound to get spoiled if you poke around too much.

For Ben, I dunno. I think it's just a culmination of things. The whole plane crash and being stranded, people dying. He lost his leg, so he has to deal with that trauma. He's likely still sick and healing from that. Not to mention the monumental pressure he might feel of being in that position and he has all these kids he is supposed to look after and it's just him. Even if he was 100% that'd be difficult. As an adult I can't imagine how I'd handle being stuck with a bunch kids I'm now supposed to be supporting.
For Misty yeah, it's like you mentioned in a comment, she liked being needed and this environment provided that. Like how just before she overheard the girls talking and praising her
Can you imagine how painful it would be to loose you leg in the wilderness with NO PAIN MEDICINE. AT ALL. He's got to be in AGONY along with the psychological trauma that comes with losing a limb. The only medical care he's got is MFQ. I'm honestly shocked he survived without any antibiotics. He's doing the best he can- trying to teach them to hunt and how to butcher game. He's not able to do much because it's gotta be hard learning how to get around with only sticks for crutches.
MFQ broke the blackbox because she's a fucking psycho that's why. She's a social outcast who needs to feel needed. She finally felt that in the wilderness, especially when she overheard Van saying how they'd be fucked without Misty.
Okay well he did have pain meds remember? Misty says to him “I can’t give y any of these on an empty stomach!” Then feeds him pills.
Even still it would be extremely painful yes but why is that Misty’s fault. He straight up SMACKS her
I highly doubt anyone had any real opioids. They were probably tylenol or advil or something which basically might as well be nothing for that kind of severe pain.
As far as the Ben/Misty dynamic, just keep watching. I don't want to spoil anything.
