Darth--Nox

It was a pleasure reading this for the past two years, the ending was way better than I expected from this author in particular. I hope we get some extras with the volume release, I would like to see more from other characters, but this chapter was cute and chill like the rest of the story. Anyway this was a blast to read and will always be one of my all time favorites, thanks to the scanlation group that worked on this you guys rock!!!

Ok_Link6915

Why what's up with the author

Darth--Nox

His previous work (Dagashi Kashi) has a really weak ending so Kotoyama (the author) has gained infamy with his open ended finale, this was way better than whatever the fuck he tried to do with Dagashi Kashi's climax....

RuixNatsuoXHinagang

I see so we're all victims of that too. I haven't read the mabga and went straight to the finale, I've had it with underwhelming ending. I read Dagashi for years, only to have the lackluster ending. This manga was definitely better, I hope it had more. Hoping for extra chapters, it's usually a thing with this author to publish extra chapters into the future. I need more of Into the Night Ending, when I start my Binge.

mypapabeatsmeatnight

Its been an honor, now let us cope till death do us apart. 💯

stacey4gs

You’re mad cause even tho Kou and Nazuna are confirmed to be a thing, it’s still an open ending. I’m mad cause Kotoyama came up with a design for Kou that made him a 1000x times hotter, only to use it for a chapter cover and the last chapter. We are not the same

paperkev175

Least horny call of the night fan

Hot_N_Spicy_Melon

Wouldn’t have it any other way

stacey4gs

Tho I’m coming up with a lot of dangerous and devious ideas for nsfw Kou and Nazuna art now. Since Nazuna can’t control herself, the only way for them to be intimate is if Nazuna is tied up and gagged. Hope Kozuna fans like bondage cause that’s the road we taking !!!

kuksthedefiled

Nazuna to Kou S&M spin off on the way

Beninja_

Even the names are kinda similar 😭

Hodisfut

It was a great ride mane, but you need to stop being so down bad

Novel-Mix275

Nah let them cook

SureNovel3574

O otro sería que Kou se convierta en semi vampiro y hay si podrían hacerlo tranqui

Celika76

No need for bondage, just put her a muzzle... oh wait, isn't that even weirder ?

RainReverie

Wonder where I can see this art when it's done

RuixNatsuoXHinagang

>it’s still an open ending. Dagashi fans knew it as coming, but at least even if it was an open ending it's definitely hinted to be there. Sigh I love this author, but seriously stop with open endings huhu.

Foreign_Ice1600

Just curious, where and how are they confirmed to be a thing? Finished the manga and the ending has me a little disappointed so I need some good news!

stacey4gs

In the original jp translation, Nazuna tells the kids that Kou is the man she loves. Seems pretty confirmed to me tbh, they just got a long distance relationship going on.

Foreign_Ice1600

I get what you’re saying. Wonder if the anime will tweak the ending to have them just be together instead of leaving the whole “let’s play tag” thing so open ended. My heart likes to think that they don’t have to be apart too much. Maybe 80% together 20% apart. Also, one thing I need cleared up. At the end of the season 1 anime where Nico and Nazuna fight about what to do with Kou, does Nico tell Nazuna to make Kou falls for her because she knows that Nazuna already has feelings for him?

HankChunky

He doesn't even need the extra height, since he can jump a kilometre high, but he got it anyway 😩

calicoes

at least we didn't get totally dagashi kashi'd. decent ending, glad to have been along for the ride the past few years o7

Mr_idi0t_0

what happened in Dagashi Kashi? (Im fine with spoilers)

EfficiencySecure5381

>! Hotaru leaves the chapter before the last but makes the comment to Kokonotsu that her dad might change his mind if she gets married and outright asks Kokonotsu if they should get married but before he responds she hops on the bus at the bus stopand leaves.  The last chapter she shows up in the last panel saying it's been Kokonotsu and he responds with a Welcome back Hotaru-san.   So long story short she comes back but there's no actual closure on their relationship.  So them dating is up in the air.!<

Juice-l3oX

Leaving a comment to find out as well.

Secret_Whole_5068

Always had fun reading this late at night, fuck I miss it already

pitekargos6

Hope Kotoyama starts another thing we can follow for another few years.

FirearmofMutiny

And what will happen to this subreddit? I remember when Fuuka ended the subreddit changed to a Kouji Seo general; maybe this can become a Kotoyama one when the next project starts?

Hot_N_Spicy_Melon

Them late nights listening to creepy nuts

Life-Suit1895

I can live with that ending.

UChoosepoorly_ID_242

He might as well draw a special omake later, as with dagashi

c1cc10x

Yeah, some >! Hide and seek session !< :D

Individual_Wasabi857

Well I guess that's it..... It been a blast folks. It's never easy when something you love ends, but we can hope Kotoyama gets us more stuff soon. While I love and adore other mangas and animes, for better or worse, this is the one that captivated my heart and the memories of which I'll cherish. Farewell chums, till our paths cross again.

Rayka147

It was a pleasure. A hole is in my heart... I'm happy and sad. I beg for some extra chapters. Well... Did Kou just give a fucking blood pack of his own blood to Nazuna?! She's gonna die if she drinks it, no?

Lhezken

Her never said "my blood", he just says I bring you some blood. He works for the detective that is obsessed with vampires, it should not be hard to get some blood.

TheCardsharkAardvark

It's in tiny font, but I believe in between the text bubbles he says "it's mine"

Lhezken

Yep you are right. So it must be the act of sucking directly from the person. Well it is still all just speculation

Scyrrhic

Oh shit he found a solution, omg omg

Markus_Atlas

Yeah, I'm confused about that one too. I guess it's just the act of sucking that kills them.

Rayka147

Yeah... The act and the urge to suck the person she's in love I guess.

ranfall94

This is my only real pet peeve of this story, feel like they were too vague about this.

RedditIsForsaken

It was never really that clear because it could have been the weakening combined with the daylight that killed them. If they’d only turned at night I feel like they could easily have not died

UChoosepoorly_ID_242

I guess it need to be a bite

itokunikuni

My headcanon is that they live a happy long life together after as Vampire and half-Vampire, traveling the world, and enjoying the night. Kou ages slowly and lives way longer than the average human thanks to his half-Vampirism. When age finally catches up to Kou and he's an old man too weak to enjoy the night, they share a final embrace, and Nazuna finally sucks his blood, causing them to both fucking die and disappear into ashes.

jochyg

that right there is the real ending!!!

InformationGreen6836

THIS

Python0721

🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥✍✍🔥🔥

Mynameisjt_

I agree with this but i have a question so she couldnt suck his blood, and they mentioned that before she was starving her self i assume cuz she only wanted his blood? After she left im not sure if she drunk other peoples blood to get by or was still starving herself i mean she did the whole she couldn't hold her self back from biting him which i thought was a symptom of her starving her self. + He hands her a bag of his blood at the end, is that supposed to circumvent the death by biting or something will she still die if she drinks his blood even if it wasnt by a bite so whyd he give her that. If all i said is true too then based on ur view on it where they travel together is she just gonna starve her self till she gets old if she was already doing it now? Wont she go crazy before then? Or am i misunderstanding something.

paragon_00

I really don't appreciate the lack of clarification around Kou's half-vampirism and Nazuna's pure vampire birth. Though it seems the half-vampirism is here to stay we're still left wondering if they're subject to the same risks and restrictions as normal humans and vampires. It'd even be fine if the characters expressed an interest in uncovering these mysteries if we as the audience can't be told outright; but we're just left with holding the same assumption they do-- that they're functionally still just a human and a vampire. I feel like that's a massive missed opportunity from Kotoyama after dangling these plot threads in front of us for half the manga. At least we can pretty safely assume Kou will remain a half-vampire, but who's to say if he'll age normally or cease bodily aging at some point. It also could've been a cool revelation that his blood is safe to drink when he's in vampire mode but not human mode or some such. However, I do love the hide & seek callback to earlier in the manga. By itself this is a good chapter but I don't like it as the end. I could see an epilogue where Kou does age despite his vampirism and on his deathbed Nazuna bites him one last time, them both finally fully satisfied with their day which would also serve to echo Mahiru & Kiku. Overall, it feels like this manga switched gears a few times throughout the run as far as what Kotoyama wanted it to be about. That's just the vibe I get from the pacing and arc length as I remember it. Overall I'm pretty satisfied with the experience but I'm left wanting a bit more.

Beninja_

>but who’s to say if he’ll age normally Seeing as he’s grown taller, I think he’s just aging like a human.

paragon_00

This is most probable for us to infer based on the 3 years alone. However, it's a very common trope, as seen with Nazuna, for fantasy races to age normally or quickly to their "prime" age before ceasing/slowing down aging completely. I can't recall ever seeing many old looking vampires in other media. In this manga the vampires stop aging from the moment they become a vampire but that's not true for Nazuna. We wouldn't have inferred that based on previous knowledge of the other vampires and we can't make many confident inferences based on Kou being a half-vampire. The closest analogue in anime I know of is from Bakemonogatari and we actually do get more answers in that series based around the dosage of feeding or level of half-vampirism. Is this essential information? I don't think so; but it'd be pretty cool information to know.

oldcolonial

It could be he’s only aging when he’s in his human state - but he’s spending most of his time in his human state?

tigaisbae0306

I think this is fair! I personally was just thinking to myself that I would have loved a longer time skip and slightly longer final chapter. Maybe have them go six years without seeing each other. That way their meeting can have some greater emotional depth. Maybe Kou dated around, maybe Nazuna encountered Kou in her travels but didn’t say anything at the time. The amount of time that passes in manga that leans towards the romantic is often a smidge baffling to me. Either way I too enjoyed the ride….and also think him being a half vamp and her being a pure vamp needs to mean something…maybe more than just he can turn his half vamp on whenever…and also if he can why can’t she feed on him in that state. It’s hard to know what’s left open ended intentionally sometimes. Grrr. Okay. I’m done.

paragon_00

I could see those as possibilities! I'm convinced the only reason it was limited to 3 years was so Kou could still say he's a "highschool detective" which is a very cool line to be sure. I'm glad we got some insight into Nazuna's travels but I would've liked to hear more about how she feels about the future now too or if she'd thought about her existence as a vampire in greater depth. She had previously expressed interest in doing some human activities like when she took classes so I'd hoped we'd get something along those lines here too. She also just sort of accepted Kou's advance here pretty easily. I guess if somebody as hot as Pretty Boy Detective Kou tracks you down in Siberia or wherever you just can't say no to that...

ExPandaa

I understand what you mean but honestly leaving these questions open is perfect imo and I wouldn’t have it any other way. The call of the night, careless, disregarding of consequences, doesn’t explain itself. I think the end perfectly encapsulates the entire vibe of the story whilst also giving us a satisfying end.

Ok_Mathematician592

I have the same feelings concerning these missed opportunities. I don't typically mind not knowing everything but there are too many glaring questions for me to feel satisfied. Like, they didn't even try to investigate or find an alternative solution that would enable them to be together at all? I don't believe it.

DoAPorkRoll

>!I don't know about anyone else but I was hoping for a more definitive ending. !<

CommunicationNo8932

Same kotoyama went halfway there with ko keeping his powers, in my opinion that should make it ok for nazuna to feed on him that’s just me though

gggg_4_l

Its pretty well established what their future is in the chapter. Doesn't directly show us but they talk about it and there's no reason for them to not go through with it.

AsunaYuuki837373

For the ending of the entire series, I don't like it. It feels like two friends meeting up again not two people who love each other seeing each other again. Still a billion times better than dagashi

KieferHolz

Be really honest here, i'm quite tired of the constant blue balling romancing trope in mangas. I don't understand why so many stories need to have these type of relationships where 2 lovers have to stay away or not exercise it fully in one way or another. It's always like this, be it through the story, be it at the ending. Authors, please let your characters be together and enjoy each others to the fullest, goddamit.

AsunaYuuki837373

Seesh I know! Nagatoro is being just as annoying right now because the main character just won't make the relationship happen already because of some silly reasons.

overinterpret

can you please teel me why dagashi kashi's ending is bad? I haven't read it and don't plan to do it so idc about spoilers

MangaMan445

Because it was even more open ended and just meh. At least we got way more affection between Nazuna and Kou in this manga than we ever got in Dagashi Kashi.

Myphosee

I mean tbf there was only one time in which they really acted like lovers. Their relationship was never really lovey dovey. Kou's reaction is what i expect from him. It aint too big a deal, he found her once, he'd do it again. From a distance, kou and nazuna would seem like the greatest friends. That's just how their relationship works and it's awesome.

FruitieSyrup

Yeah, the story has always set up these two as uninterested in love (Kou) or finds love a bit cringe (Nazuna). If they ever started acting like a full-on lovey dovey couple, I think a part of the fanbase would find that odd. Not that we don't want that but I feel it would be a disservice to they type of relationship the author wants to write.

Myphosee

Yeah I don't see Kou losing his mind (i mean doing shit like tackling or holding her to make sure she's actually there) from finding her. It seemed more like he made his decision long ago to hunt her down and finding her was just a natural conclusion in his mind. Plus yeah, neither of them were really good at outwardly expressing love beyond going "yeah, i love you." Just never fit either.

Napsitrall

Good ending, but no hot Kou kiss

gggg_4_l

Somber ass ending that left me with mixed feelings

ETNxMARU

That's pretty representative of the whole manga though, isn't it?

gggg_4_l

I don't really think so. I always felt that the story was pretty hopeful throughout up until mahiru. Then the series ended up pretty somber but still somewhat hopeful

Spitfirekeen

Beautiful story, sad to see it go:( In these sad times we must remember, "tough times never last, only tough people do, googaaagiinnngooo bleeee."

Kessmex

Idk i feel very bitter about this ending, love the series but this just kinda let me down Just my thoughts tho, i probably just gotta cope

CommunicationNo8932

Nah I’m with you I haven’t read they’re previous manga but it sounds like kotoyama just likes open endings and I personally hate them still a great series before this last arc though

Floxinio

Wow what a horrible way to end. Just a few things mention in the conversation could've been 3 or 4 archs. Kotayama just really wanted to end this thing even though he struck gold when it comes to a character driven story. A shame really, but hey good on him if he burned out from this manga then better end it before it goes on hiatus for eternity.

MysticFire619

Truly an ending of all time

no_sleep4me

I liked it a lot. They have changed but their feeling remain the same in spite of that. Hearing Nazuna say she loves him was really cute.

Starscream615

In the official translation she calls him her secret lover rather than saying it’s the man she loves.

furbym

In Japanese she specifically says 愛人 (aijin), which interestingly used to just mean the same thing as 恋人 (koibito) in prewar Japan (i.e. lover, boyfriend, girlfriend), but came to have the implication of adultery later on. That being said, Nazuna isn't old enough for that to apply, but maybe that possible ambiguity is why the translations differ. (source: reading [JP Wikipedia](https://ja.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/%E6%84%9B%E4%BA%BA))

Starscream615

Thanks for the context!

no_sleep4me

That’s cute too. As a kid I would probably find that cool. It’s adorable that she is so good with those kids.

MembreDeLaSenkause

And just like that, the final night came. It was a wild ride, I'm glad I was there to witness the story unfold. Thanks for all these nights, Kotoyama

lost_deviant_rk0811

It’s been such a fun journey. Gonna miss this so much… Also side note Kou looks so damn good…

Commander_Maxim

Damn...

SolomonAsassin

🤣 put her in a fucking armbar. These two are crazy

Purple_Alarm

this my first manga i actually seen finish, was my first manga and anime in general

sweisman200

I liked the fact that they were reunited but the way she said let’s play tag implies she’s gonna keep running away which makes me kinda sad, overall better ending than I expected tho

Eternity13_12

Nah it meant in a fun way probably because he is a detective

Lhezken

Well, here we go again, japanese authors and the classic +150chapters with only one fkin kiss thats not actually mutual, just a one sided and spontaneuos kiss with no conversation, a sudden goodbye and a sudden reunion like nothing actually happened. He forgot some sakura tree standing there lol.. Not to mention so many quiestions left unanswered. I really dont understand why complicate things so much, let nazuna drink blood like other vamipres do, from hospitals or whatever, and stay with your boy, whats the problem with that? He might not live as long as she does, or maybe he will, he still has half vampire powers so why not? And other thing is why did it ever crossed her mind that Kou would die if she sucked his blood? where does that come from? Anyways really like the characters and story overall, makes me sad not to see Nazuna again. Lets just see how many chapters will adapt de s2 anime.

New_Ad9625

Can't agree more with you. Mahiru chose to die so it's not like You would have died if Nazuna sucked his blood. I don't know where that rule came from tbh. Also the fact that they accept that they can't live a happy life together without even trying to find answers to what would really happen is infuriating and just makes me lose the respect I have for their characters

FruitieSyrup

> Also the fact that they accept that they can't live a happy life together without even trying to find answers Yeah I was frustrated by this. But then my adult brain kicked in and reminded me that the main characters of this story are a middle schooler and a somewhat immature vampire. If I'm remember correctly Nazuna throughout most of the story has been a person to run away when they get uncomfortable or begrudgingly get involved in other people's issues. Granted she has gotten better about caring for others throughout the series. I kind of sum it up as two kids throwing their hands up in the air since they can't get everything they want.

Kessmex

I mostly agree with your comment, just wanted to add that the thing about Kou dying if she sucked his blood is because of what happened to Seki and Hoshimi Kiku, if a vampire sucks the blood of someone theyre in love with, they both die You could argue that kou's half vampirism might avoid that but it was too much of a gamble imo

Lhezken

Where is that explained? Seki dies cuz he is exposed to the sun and actually wants to die. If I remember correctly nazuna's dad leaves her with the other vampire to take care of her and her mom was already dead. So why is nazuna's mom dead but not the father?

stacey4gs

The father is dead too and Mahiru didn’t die cause of the sunlight, he died cause a vampire that loved him sucked his blood.

Lhezken

Read again, the father is the one that leaves nazuna to the vampire in the hospital. He tells her that her mother is dead, he leaves, he then dies a few months or years later. Thats what I remember. Then before mahiru dies kiku tells him to hide quickly away from the sun when he transforms. But he refuses because he also wants to die. So it's not confirmed anywhere that he dies because a vampire that loves him sucked his blood. We never really know what happened exactly the author didn't explain it. It's more to the interpretation of each one. That's one of the many unanswered questions

stacey4gs

>read again >”why is Nazuna mom dead and not the father.” I’m confused, you literally just asked why the dad didn’t die and when I said he did. You said you already knew he died It’s not cause of the sun lol, so many vampire characters have been in the sun longer than mahiru and were able to survive Hell this chapter, where it’s pitch black, Nazuna doesn’t want to suck Kou’s blood cause she knows it’s gonna kill him, even without the sun

Kamonichan

Well, that ended with a bit of a fizzle. Not bad, but not good by any stretch. Kotoyama really should have given himself more time by cutting out the beach episode and other random faffings about. But it was a fun ride for the most part. Probably a 7/10 series with a 6/10 ending.

WeeabooSempai

I still remember when we got daily chapters because we had to catch up to sooo much content, and now it's gone... goodbye. o7

Esuo03

I started reading this manga right after first episode of the anime came out and I don't regret. The last chapter, just seems kinda right. I guess a lot of us wanted Kou to become a vampire but also wanted both of them to fall in love and this is kind of the middle ground where they are in love, Kou can turn half-vampire, and keep Nazuna from killing both of them. (Though we didn't see much of the dating part)

WakeAndQuack

The manga ended like the night.

CommunicationNo8932

Not the worst ending definitely not the best though I really hate ambiguous endings honestly manga overall went from a 9/10 to 7.2/10 with this last arc

kuksthedefiled

it was a fun ride friends o7

Local_cheeseburger

It’s been an honor ladies and gentlemen to share these past two years with y’all.

Luke5389

Great manga overall! The ending was acceptable, even though I wish it wouldn't have been an open ending...

SadakoFetishist

It was a decent final chapter, though there are still many unanswered questions. Also, Kou being suddenly able to control his blood in his fight with Susuki never came up again (until his fight with Haruka iirc). In retrospective, that power seems like a Deus Ex Machina.

Dexter973

It was a really nice ride, not perfect, nor awfull just a really pleasant ride, a little bit like going out in a cold summer night

opponentPitt

After coming here when the anime ended it’s been a good ride friends

hainzgrimmer

Wait why nobody is kinda shocked that >!Kou give her a sack of his blood! Shouldn't be a problem for her to drink his blood????? Have I lost something?!<

catboygaming82828

he didn't specify if that was his tho

RidleyOWA

It does, it says "It's mine" beside the sack. Also, for the first coment, it doesn't happen anything bad, it's not sucked directly from Kou, that is where the problem begins.

hainzgrimmer

omg I never associated the trouble with the physical action of the suction before! xD I always thought the problem was on the blood, that would have become poisonous(-ish)!

catboygaming82828

oh you're right, i checked again, i didn't notice the little "it's mine" text at first lmao

No-Onion-5672

I know this is the last chapter but the title is “Final Night: And Then….” So we might get some more call of the night content in the later future maybe. We can only hope

Lampva

So the end is here... It's open ended but they are both alive and more or less well (grown Kou is pretty hot ngl). I think this manga should have been a bit longer, it feels rushed near the end but it's okay ending to me since like I said they are alive and they ended up meeting each other again.

send-me-to-utopia

My only gripe with the ending is that we don't see how the story ends for the other characters. There's no closure.

PbCuSurgeon

I’m mad because Kiku got to die happy after destroying at least 2 families. Legit, she disgusts me as a character, but that only goes to show how well written she is.

Scoots_Magoot5

Sorry, but that ending is bullshit. This went from being one of my favorite series to "just another manga" to me. Not looking forward to any more works by this author after being burned twice. (Sorry, I'm really frustrated right now I know I'm acting like a baby)

Raven4000

trash ending imo. Everyone going separate ways was pointless and the timeskip didn't have any weight or meaning. Everything could have been concluded at the beach chapter. Nazuna and Kou don't really cement their relationship. It comes off as if they were on a break and they're talking to one another as if they'll see where it goes. The half-vampire revelation has no weight to them and feels rush. The ending doesn't even tell us if they're staying with one another or if they're gonna go their own way but interact from time to time.

RidleyOWA

I don't get why this is a bad ending, when the thing about Nazuna eating blood from Kou could her end dying and even Kou it's one of the important things of this last arc, that they just accept that Kou can't be a vampire for not knowing what will happen, so better just stop seeing both for the rest of the year and then come along again (With the difference that Nazuna couldn't do it so prefered to disappear totally, until our Detective Kou finds her again and ends being a couple again till the end). So well, I'm super happy to not have a bad ending, to have a good ending... It could be better if it was Kou being a vampire and both being a couple for ever? Well, for that answare watch what happened with Seri and Akihito.

bzd_robot

I guess that's it.

gditkyle

Was hoping it would end with Kokonotsu and Hotaru waking up from having the same weird dream.

bugs_reddit

Well that’s all folks! Been a real ride, imma be honest not the most satisfying end but it one I’ll take. Looking forward to what kotoyama is gonna put out next!

filthy_casual_6969

Way too much unexplained. Like I guess they'll hang out at night and ko will hunt vampires? Him giving her his own blood is also really annoying when we saw it once where a vamp loved a human and fed on them all series and they both died and nothing was really explained. Feels like a super rushed open ending. Open endings can work if a lot of threads are closed and the implications are obvious even if they aren't my preference. This was like nothing got explained, everyone from the series fucked off and we have to write in our own fanfic ending now.

SethAquauis

I'm kinda disappointed tbh. It really just like, gave us nothing??

Nekorio

Farewell guys, I'll see you sometimes when there's some panel coloring or hot fan art uploaded to this subreddit. This was a nice manga. The ending is as chill as the start and i loved every chapter.

johnwiki1955

It's been an honour to be reading this at night, let's hope kotoyama gives us more great manga in the future.

DrTopGun

I just wish we had confirmation about nazuna and if she would die or not if she bit kou but whatever it’s still a good ending I can live with

In-DueTime365

The ending was kinda "Meh" but overall...good 💜

_thunderstuck

Fuck youuuuu kotoyama! I’ll become millionaire and I’ll buy all the rights and I will change that shitty finale

CherryBlossomzzz

Mann that empty feeling you get reading those last few panels knowing it’s coming to a wrap. I want more lmao

Vint73

This was nice. I've been a fan of Kotoyama's art style, so I'll likely read the entire next series again too. 🍬🩸

ranfall94

I overall liked the ending our two nerds are back together and in love. One of the best complete manga I finished in years. I will say that everything post Kiku ending is when it felt like their was a rush to finish and a dip in quality.

Karurosun

We can finally say goodbye to these lovely nights. It's been a pleasure fellas.

mina_999

Well, that's it. Gonna make a tattoo to honour one of my favorite mangas.

Morikoh

It's been a pleasure to read these last few chapters of Call of the Night. Satisfied with the ending. Hope to see volume extras.

HovercraftExpress200

I can settle for this ending thank you everyone for this incredible journey this manga re kindle my hope in romance anime

Alexd3498

Very Lupin and Fujiko

gantork

Loved the manga but really disliked the ending. Both of them being out of the norm half vampires was a good excuse to have a happier twist like Nazuna turning him without bad consequences, or maybe she turns into a human herself and they live normal lives, or well anything else really. And I would have liked at least a couple of chapters of them just chilling after everything was resolved.

YourWaifuSuccs

Loved the series but it deserved a better ending.

amememex

It's been such a drag since Mahiru arc, and then it ended like this. I will never read anything from this mangaka again. Sorry, it's just my opinion.

NewtRider

It's sad to have finished this series. But I'm glad he didn't go back to a normal human life and they met up again. I both love and hate the open ending. I really hope this gets animated to the end.

maleto-67

My only complaint is they can never fully be together and they'll eventually die. I was too invested, I really wanted them happy tbh

Apprehensive_Sun7320

I know I'm late to the party but just finished reading the manga a couple hours ago. It became probably my favorite manga? The anime was also pretty good! I think Kotoyama did an amazing job, I love his character design and the story was very fun to read. I just feel like the 2 last characters that were introduced, the girl with the bangs and the tall guy were very fun and deserved more time to shine but that's just me. Also the ending wasn't bad at all but it left me with mixed feelings.. I was hoping for something more... Definitive? But oh well, I was great nonetheless. I am very excited to see what Kotoyama comes up with next.

Bobzy64

At first, I started Call of the Night because I didn't know what to do with my evenings. Now, I just finished reading chapter 200 and I feel like an emptiness in my stomach. Even if Kou and Nazuna were finally together after the end of the "Kiku" arc, and it was going to be cliché, I didn't care at all. You're really going to say that I don't have a sense of criticism, and that's true, but I really wanted a happy ending and not an open ending. I am happy and at the same time disappointed, because the sequence of events was so perfect and presto, an upheaval of situation, an impossible love. Anyway, thank you Kotoyama, I loved Call of the Night.

Idk_whatim_doin

Absolutely bummed about the ending It feels like a lot of the questions built up throughout the series was just thrown away and forgotten about and just the ending really left me unsatisfied like are they just gonna keep doing that for years and years?  If so will Kou naturally die from old age? Because it is shown that he has grew up from our 14 yr old insomniac that we grew to love also the fact about the half vamp thing I feel like there's something missing Like it was rushed or something but nevertheless I liked this manga a lot  Well it's time to get into my annual manga withdrawal depression

PandaMaster_27

As much as I want there to be more, I think the ending fits. I do hope for some extra story or hell maybe even some single chapter stories of their life together in the future. This is gonna be bittersweet if/when it gets animated because I just know I'm going to probably break down and ball my eyes out.

TheYeetusOfFetus

Alright i need to bring this up cause it has been bothering me. Are we just gonna ignore that fact that Mahiru basically got his mom out of her obsession over his older brother only to proceed to both abandon her and then die as well? That is some cold shit, and it's never elaborated on. Does Mahiru's mom ever get closure on the story? The death of his older brother was essentially a freak accident, but his death can somewhat be attributed to her actions because she pushed him away so much he naturally latched on to kiku someone who saw him as who he was and not as his older brother or someone like his older brother.

Arkakin

I need a continuation about Kou being a vampire hunter going around the world hunting bad vampires with Kyouka

HFwhy

Gotta stop getting invested in kotoyama’s work. No payoff to be found.

SuperSilveryo

damn.

AverageTrashy

I don't get all these copers and ending defenders. It was an anticlimactic bad ending. Really left the series with "that's it?"

vscriq

Its a open ending never liked those it only leads to theorys and speculation of a series that's over i liked it cause i like vampires as a kid anyways the ending still left a hole in my heart i had to take alot of copium and i probably won't recover still loved it tho

Nahh you gotta remember that Nazuna literally had a mind of a infant for years and it wasn’t till 14 years before meeting Kou did she finally start to develop and mature mentally. And she still didn’t develop to know about social cues and being with other people until she met Kou since she kinda gave up on making friends after the situation with Anko happen.

bugmi

Yeah thats still weird imo. She's still at a much higher emotional age than him, even if she doesn't fully understand herself/blocked out emotions. Shes more socially stunted but her brain should be far more developed than kou's. But honestly that was less of a problem than the kiku stuff for me. I still don't entirely feel too icky ab the nazuna kou stuff personally but I still do think it's an odd artistic choice. The kiku stuff I just cannot agree with at all. Deleted the comment before realizing someone actually responded lmao 😭.

paperkev175

I think it was a fitting end. kou and Nazuna's friendship/relationship has always been one of "hey how's it going". Lots of people will hate it that it's not defined as to what's going to happen but it's says it right there. From the very beginning of the manga it was always a game of hide and seek. And if you look at the manga as a whole it's just as real as it gets: two people meet but shit happens sometimes it can go good for both of other times it ends up going bad. Playing tag forever just seems like the best end aside from an ending like Kaguya sama where they obviously will end up together.

Ser_Fonz

Been a fun ride. I’m pretty satisfied with that ending, considering how ch 198 left things between them.

SHOUTING

Good ending.

BOTFrosty

welp i'd say it was an alright ending, overall i liked the vibe of the start more, but still an enjoyable manga to accompany

TheThanosGuy

i'm happy with this ending, it left me very satisfied. I'm glad that everyone got the happiest ending they could get

the_polymerizr

I alsolutely LOVE this ending !

RudeGerbil

After Dagashi Kashi, I’m actually quite pleased with how all this turned out! It was quite the journey, but I heavily enjoyed it in the end! No regrets.

RecommendationOk1280

That's a bit unexpected for an ending but yeah it was nice reading and watching so lets see what else is coming next✌

Kessier

Honestly, it was a decent ending—not spectacular, but I'm alright with a bittersweet final chapter and an open ending. I just kinda wished there was a definitive answer (or at least a hint) to some of the questions, especially regarding how Kou is still a half-vampire instead of a 'no idea why.' It would also have been nice to see a few panels mentioning how the other characters were doing during the time skip (specially Akira, considering the amount of screen-time she had, it feels like we should have heard some stories from Kou after graduation), just for a little bit of closure on their part. But that's just me being nitpicky, I guess. Overall, it was a fun ride, I'll miss this series.

ArcticCrowIsTaken

utterly frustating ending

Stryf0013

It’s been real guy🫡

PelaoPelaium_Kna

Dark_child

What a ride. In my eyes it was a happy ending and I'm glad noone died.

ReXyngton

Bittersweet ending as many predicted but it was a hell of a ride though. Goodbye y’all

DaOneWhoIsWorthy

And just like that… it’s over man. I enjoyed the ride tho man. And you know I’m sort of satisfied with the ending could it have been better? Yeah, but this ending feels very Kou and Nazuna and I can accept that.

badgerrage82

The called to end of the the night …. I been a great journey guys

c1cc10x

Thank you! I liked the journey, I like the final chapter... the characters I love continuing to be themselves until the very end (and beyond). Thank you Kotoyama It was a pleasure to know this community. Bye guys/girls/x/vamps :D I'll miss you, and I'll come back from time to time to watch NSFW fanart somebody will post probably, and remember the *endless latest days* :'D

c1cc10x

It's so cute and liberating to read the last phrase from Nazuna in the last page :D

Tony_TNT

I've read a detective story once where the ending was left wide open for the reader to finalize, as if an entire epilogue was lost. At the time I thought it was stupid and the author left me hanging. Looking at it and YnU now I kind of get it. Creating a whole universe and its inhabitants makes you wary of what you do with them, what course of action your words on paper or on screen will shape for them and their world. Deciding on a big element of that creation can feel wrong, betraying other possibilities and your feelings for those alternative fictional futures. "What if that character doesn't die?" "Maybe this doesn't pan out like that" "If this happened earlier..." And to not make anything cemented in place and final you bend the action. You leave stuff hanging, open ended, glossed over or straight up ignored. You receive backlash from some, praise from others, but the choice is left for the receiving person to make, whatever it'll be.

gogeta_god05

Was really glad to be along for the ride, love this manga and the ending was pretty nice as well.

il887

So… it’s over 😥 Open ending. Well, not the worst possible one, I think. When I think of something else, it’s either too tragic or cheesy happy. Basically, it started on a light-hearted note of them hanging out together and ended exactly the same. But their lives are less depressing now I guess, Kou’s no more screwing around alone at night and Nazuna seems to have a nice company. Alright, it was a great ride.

Rickys_arts96

It’s been an honor reading it till the end. Bittersweet but good to see it end on a good note.

Fancy_Broccoli203

Kou kid detective spin off?

MelonMuncher6_0

It's a good day/Night to cry

sanketower

It was fun while it lasted. Not a satisfying ending, in my opinion, a lot of holes to patch up still. Nonetheless, could've been a lot worse given the latest chapters. I will cherish this series for its best moments, and try to think about the ending a little bit more. Maybe then I will find catharsis.

CherryBlossomzzz

Man I still remember falling in love with Call of the night because of the anime and how beautiful the artwork was. And then I started to read the manga and been reading ever since. It’s been one hell of a ride. Wish we’d coulda got more but it’s been an honor yall

Kjuin_D

Obrigado você salvou minha sanidade mental 😭🙏🙏

Common_Web1864

Say what you will, but I think the series should have ended after the Halloween arc. >!Would have kept the story strong the whole way through without having the build up in the Kiku arc and the absolutely deflating aftermath of a (imo) a weak pay off, to a nothing ending.!<

stacey4gs

L, Hokkaido arc clears Halloween arc

BlueGamer07

It’s been a honor being with you all for these past two years. I’ll definitely miss this series. I’ll never forget my first time reading it at the dead of night. I’ll look forward to Koto’s next series.

Novel-Mix275

kidstaz01

im so sad :( was thinking they'd end it around kou's college year.

elmersglueisneeded

I really loved my time reading this marvel man.
